There is the possibility to make a radio version of Pharos that has wifi enabled?
This is an excellent device, but there isn't the wifi...
I hope that my proposal will be considered
Ya it is an excellent device abd please prof or tom consider and built up a radio for pharos including wifi.........please we r eagerly waiting for that thankyou
Dear users , in order for the phone to have wifi it needs a hardware part , that htc p3470 doesn't have .... so no software can enable a component that a device dosen't have
Good idea, but the WiFi hardware is absent on the device, just don't know how a new radio can provide the function...
Or I'm just so out?
You're so out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400361&highlight=pharos+wifi
To be honest, I dont know if the hardware is intentionally left out.
But since its a standard feature/option in most OMAP 850 versions it would seem at least very possible that its in! But disabled.
Again I dont know if its in, but I assume it is, read the tech specs for yourself!
I was planning to flas an artemis rom, that didnt work (no htccert, but fixing that is doable) but Im kinda scared of bricking my beloved Pharos.. I dont have a spare. bmd19 do you work for HTC? or were you involved in the design of the Pharos? or maybe you work for TI and have knowledge of the parts HTC ordered for the manufacture of the Pharos? How can you say what is and isnt present in a pda? did you know that HTC disabled GPS in the kaiser?
regards
I have no clue of what design there is on the TI-chip in pharos, or any other device. But the most logic thing, is that the wifi-abilities are a seperate chip on the mainboard, with an antenna and the wifi-controller.
This could however be integrated into the TI OMAP850 chip, but that seems unlikely. But there is an possibility. Is there anyone that knows that the wifi-controller is integrated in the OMAP850 chip? If not, cant we just pry the pharos open and look for the antenna/controller? There may not be an antenna as on the other devices, because the pharos was not intended to have wifi, so they could have dropped the antenna.
If the wifi-capabilities IS on the omap850 chip, I know there is a way to enable it. Its just that i dont know how... And it may take a lot to figure it out.
According to this map, there is an wifi-option that HTC may have included. However, that is unlikely. The WiLink-part that is outside the OMAP850 square is essential to wifi-capabilities on the device.

oh im drunk at this point... please dont comment this reply.
My Pharos, if you go into \windows and scroll down, it has some WiFi icons, one of which i select, it then takes me to step thru wifi setup.
I have not yet tried setting this up, and i don't have any links to wifi in start menu, and it is there, but kinda shadowed, not available, in comm manager.
I thought, maybe, if i put in the settings, then maybe switch it on, the menus may then recognise and display it.
after looking thru the windows folder like 20 times
i found the wireless lan but how do i put it on??
some help would be appreciated!!!!(A)
(A)i always think before i do something stupid(A)
i have just send an email to HTC about the wifi support,
i hope they will help us with the connection.
if i receive an email i will reply it on this website,
and if one of u found the solution please send it to me @ [email protected]
Greeting and good luck
(A)i always think before i do something stupid(A)
sorry for my English. got some info? Pharos is the ability to have wifi working. greet.
No. Pharos doesn't have hardware for WIFI, only bluetooth.
There is now way to gain access to wifi with it.

CHECK HERE FOR THE PROCESS
yeah i have seen this thread just seems theres alot of
problems getting it working, just wonderd why htc are saying tytn has gps
and can be used with tomtom but no one can get it working
I don't think HTC is saying it's built-in, just that it's available, supposedly as an add-on.
"quote from HTC site"
Support: HTC TyTN
Q: Does the integrated GPS turn off?
A: From everything seen so far, the GPS is only on when you activate the GPS software. You can conserve battery power by turning off the GSM radio when its not needed
it states "integrated GPS"
maybe I have made a mix up but this is stating its intergrated on the tytn
Could they possibly be refering to GPS the way cell phone GPS is defined? i.e. Ability to broadcast your triangulated position (via cell site, not satellite) for things like 911?
Dan.
That first link didn't load for me initially (some cookie not set I assume) so I didn't see it. The page certainly implies that the TyTN has integrated GPS, but it makes no sense for them to say "from everything seen so far" - if they made the product, shouldn't they know how it works?! This is very strange.
CmptrDan: I don't think it's an E911 related thing, because that cannot be used with regular GPS software AFAIK. If it's just the regular E911 TDOA technology, I don't think the handset even receives the location information; it is calculated by the cell towers and sent to the 911 operators. I must point out that I do not know any of this for certain.

They suggest turning the GSM radio off to conserve power when using GPS so they can't be referring to triangulation and stuff like that because without the GSM radio on, it wouldn't work.
Everything about that answer is weird.
I think they mean that if you're worried about GPS wasting power, you should turn the GSM radio off, which should (theoretically) kill the GPS too. That part actually makes sense...
Maybe they're just toying with us
Maybe someone over at HTC has noticed the efforts being made by some here at XDA-Dev.
So they just bung in some obscure reference to GPS just to mess with our heads
Somebody should call HTC Europe and ask about that. And I mean call, not email, because then they have to give SOME kind of answer.
there are now even more things about the gps, more answers perhaps

The links that you have written they report to gps external to the tytn.
i hope there are standards FAQ
It's logic that if you haven't GPS, or phone, or wifi, you don't ask nothing about.
Try to compare the ask possibilities of more devices...

Sorry for being the party pooper here but these articles seem to be generic and not specific to any particular phone model. You can see the same articles if you select Qtek S200. I don't take this as a sign from HTC that the Prophet contains a GPS receiver.

True, but the work in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1121407&postcount=387 shows that there is an NMEA compliant device trying to come out in the Hermes . The parent thread for that also has the exact same GSM and GPS chipsets listed as being in the Tytn and the Trinity.
Seems like they're really getting close to having it working, so keep your fingers crossed!
called htc europe today they said the 3600 has enabled gps the 3300 has gps but disabled until the next rom update but the tytn has no gps.
I mentioned the htc website in the faq's on the tytn, they said there maybe a mistake and will take a look and rectify any mistakes if any.
(I might have got them two model numbers the wrong way around but one definitely has gps disabled)

Well, the Tytn uses the exact same chipset as the Trinity, and this chipset has a built-in GPS (which the Trinity does use successfully as evidenced in this forum). I'm sure HTC doesn't want the general public to know that it's disabled this feature, but I've seen the chip info on Qualcomm's website and it does in fact have it. I didn't see any mention of GPS in the FCC submission for the Hermes, so they never had any intention of letting us use it (here in the states at least).
I really have to wonder why HTC would want to disable it other than to try and widen its product base a bit since the Trinity would have less public interest if the only difference between it and Hermes was the keyboard.
I really hope so would be great to get this feature working, at the moment im using a bluetooth gps reciver but not always got it with me.
if htc says there is no gps, then there shouldn't be any gps in tytn.
don't get too atracted
Hi all,
Firstly, apologies for being a bit of a newb here, but this is my first ever PDA type phone, and im getting myself confused, and for no real reason it seems !
I've done a bit of searching around, and from what I can work out I am going to make a few assumptions
1 - I should be able to, without using my WLAN connection, browse the internet on my HTC3600 through internet explorer, using my Vodafone 3g or GPRS connection.
2 - there is a way to enable some random wizardry chip inside the phone to activate GPS, and if I was to install TomTom Satnav software, this would work with no extra dongles etc.
Now. if my assumptions are correct (and one should never assume anything) I would be greatly appreciated if someone could in easy to follow newbie freindly (as in, click on start, programs,) instructions as to how I would ...
1 - do what is required to get GPS working
2 - do what is required to get the 3g web browsing working.
Im sure this would be a useful sticky if you cna help me do this, but having a search round on the forum I havn't seen these instructions spelt out. Aware that whatever you tell me I do at my own risk etc, but would really appreciate some help here
cheers all

Usually I would say search and stop being a noob but I'll be nice today.

Correct, however you'll have to setup your internet settings for Vodafone, you can usually find these settings on vodafone's support website or by calling customer service.
2 - there is a way to enable some random wizardry chip inside the phone to activate GPS, and if I was to install TomTom Satnav software, this would work with no extra dongles etc.
If you have an older ROM loaded on your P3600 then yes you'll have to upgrade it to enable the GPS. You can check your ROM by going to start->settings->system->device information if it's 1.15, you'll need to upgrade it to get GPS, however if it says 1.23, your GPS should already be enabled. You may also want to look into upgrading your P3600 to WM6.
Here are some useful links

BTW, don't get too attached to this phone, the screen will probably stop responding in about a month and you'll have to send it in to get serviced.
Good luck.

Don't do anything apart from going to Start/Settings/System/Device Information and checking what is listed for Radio ROM. If it ends in **.**.11 it is GPS enabled. If not, as vanydotk says, you will need to update the Radio ROM.
Any GPS aware application (TomTom etc, etc) will automatically initiate the GPS receiver as needed, as long as the applications settings point to the correct GPS port (COM9) You don't need any additional hardware.

Make sure you have a 3G SIM card, and 3G is enabled on your account (it isn't always).
Use This Guide to manually configure the Vodafone settings (HTC did have an automatic file to do this, but it's been pulled from their site). Note there are different settings for contract and PAYG accounts.
Be very aware that mobile browsing can be very expensive. Before you do anything, make sure you buy a data bundle, or it may cost you up to £3 per MB of data.
Also a newbie and had spent some time reading the forum looking for answers... Can any experts clarify and/or confirm my question below? I know it s a very basic question for many here, but I would really appreciate it if someone can help me to get this working.
Do I have to have Mapping software installed on my Trinity in order for the GPS to work?
I go into the Camera mode by pressing the "shutter" button. Tap on the camera icon (upper left in landscape view) to enable GPS. However, nothing happens. Looks like it just keeps trying to start GPS.
The screen message reads: "Initializing GPS..."
What do I need to do to get the GPS working?
According to a previous post. My device came with the GPS enabled based on the ROM versions on my Trinity.
Some info:
I purchased my D810 in Hong Kong but I am using it now in Taipei.
The ROM info are as follows:
-ROM version: 1.23.707.6
-ROM date: 02/08/07
-Radio version: 1.35.00.11
-Protocol version: 32.68.7020.10H
OS 5.1.461 (Build 15671.3.3.0) Windows Mobile 5.0 with Messaging and Security Feature Pack. English version.
I am currently on a pre-paid phone service (FarEast Tone) so I do not have access to 3.5G, etc.
Thanks in advance!!!
Hi,
It make some week i had problem to activate wifi on my HD. On comunication manager, it try some second to activate it, but at the end it still desactivated.
I try to flash rom (some french rom, some english rom, wm6.5, wm6.1...). I try also a lot of radio rom (1.14,1.13,1.12,1.09) and hard reset, but it still doesn't work.
I installed Wifi Monster wich tell me that no Compatible Wifi adapter is found when it try to launch wifi.
If i find no solution i can try to send it to waranty (which mean i'll need to put off all cooked stuff..), but as i go to travel next week, i'd like to find a solution for don't have to use expensive data connexion.
Is someone have one brillant idea ?
Thx

Have you tried using wm wifi router or HTC wifi router?
I've moved your thread to general discussion as its not related to rom development
Hi,
thank for your answer.
I try both solution without result. On wm wifi routeur, on first startup, it said wifi was not found and ask me to select an interface. I had choice between TNETTW12511 and WWAN1. I try both, but don't work. I start connection sharing but don't see asociated acces point. (wifi stat is at 0db).
Same problem with the other softs...
no other idea ?
I use SD card flash method with olinex SPL 1.56. Is it possible the problem come to that ?
Sounds like the wifi chip is dead - lots of people have reported the same thing happening, and the only option is to send it back to HTC for a repair. We had it happen to one of ours - never found out what caused it, but the camera died at the same time.
The people who've had repairs and looked inside say the boards have been replaced, so it's not just a flashing/firmware issue. Some suggest the design is bad and the antennas are just too close to the chipset, but of course HTC won't comment on that idea.
Too bad.
I'll send it to htc when i came back and i'll use data til that, but it will cost a lot ...
BTW, thx for yours help !
people i need a hint
does nike support wifi and is there a way to enable it
thanks
i was googling and according to specs there is no wifi
but i read that the chipset supports wifi and wondered if devs enabled it
thanks in advance
I have gone through other topics referring to wifi on the Nike.
What people have come up with is that the Nike has a wifi antenna but HTC disabled it for telecommunication providers to bundle you onto data plans, As well as that if the Nike did have Wifi actually enabled, people would prefer it over a normal Touch, thus people buying the Nike instead of the Touch. Keeping in mind it is ridiculous that the Nike having a Wifi antenna inside it if HTC disables it meaning we cannot use it either way (Developers on this forum have attempted to get it working but no luck as of yet.)
Hope this helps ya!
Hi,
I guess that not only the antenna is missing but the power amplifier and the receive amplifier for WIFI + frontend filter.
Someone has a motherboard of the phone?
I work in cellphone hardware issues. If someone scans the board with minimum of 600 dpi (1200 dpi wold be even better) from both sides, then I can have a look at this and tell whether there is some WIFI hardware on it.

Hello,
I bought a T3333 on a chinese website (i know it was a bad idea). It is pretty good except for the signal.
I have a very bad signal in general and sometimes even outside. It was windows mobile 6.5. When i returned it they said that it was a well known issue and the manufacturer knows how to fix it.
When it came back it has Android inside. I didn t know Android and it is great os but the signal is still the same.
I installed some applis about antenna and signal and i would like to modify the band frequency or the radio frequency because i suspect that it does not look for the good signal. I tried to enter the test mode (the *#46... thing) but it doesn t work.
I read a lot trying to find a solution and arrived at this forum. It seems that it is possible to change the radio rom but i did not find the one for Android:

I live in France.
You are my last hope.
Can anyone help me?

Your device not is HTC original
Clone device is different. In this forum you can find only tips and tricks, rom and more for original HTC Touch2 Mega T3333. Your device is different for CPU, radio electronical components and more. I'm sorry but you can't find solution. You can try only to modify antenna of your device. I tried clone last year but i see device is more bad quality of electronics component. GPS on my clone for example report me movement 6Km/h but I not moving. Wifi scan report no networks but with HTC Touch elfin see four networks. GSM Signal is 30% low respect of Elfin or My Mega. I decided to change device because this issue not found solution. Is bad idea buy chinese clone because quality is very low. You can try in chinese forum only.
ok. i dont know how i can modify antenna. This phone is great except for the bad reception.next month i will go abroad. I will check if i have better signal. If no, it means that i should get another phone.
I will try meanwhile chinese mobile phone forum.
Thanks anyway.
