Today I have seen a seismographs application in iphone... A needle was continously writing the output coming from the acclerometer like those richter measuring seismographs.
And it was quite sensitive. Even if somebody walk in the room, you can see the changes in the seismographs. I really wanted to be able to write some code for wm but i can't... So maybe one of our you guys can be inspired by this and can write something similiar for this... I really like to play with these g-sensor programs...
I could not grab enough attention for the european users... So I try my chance one more time in the time zone where american users are mostly active...
A seismograph application... I don't think that it's that difficult... the code does even not to suppress the disturbance... Because actually it should be measuring the disturbance continuously...
I've also heard that it is a free app. for iphone... I don't know maybe the code of that program is somewhere available...
Cheers,

I could try making that app but could you post the link for the iphone version plz? out puting the sensors are kite easy for me atm but i don't imagine the relation bethen ms^2 and Mercalli scale. so yes the needle will will shake but i don't know what to put in the tag's

Ikari... You are my favorite coder... After your accelerometer, responding to this has proven it one more time...
Ok so here some youtube links to see how it looks like...

or

Basically you don't need to think about the unit conversion or any other... I mean as you see on iphone, it's something ver simple... Not scientific... No units... Just a scale on the "rolling paper"... Let's say the maximum disturbance is the limit of the paper and it's 3 times of gravity... A simliar UI would be really nice... Maybe you can also think of a logarithmic scale (which is the case for richter scale) then you can even show 6 G on the paper... it will not take so much place for the increasing gravity (i don't know what is the maximum output you can measure with the sensor inside)
It would be really nice to see such a thing...
P.S.
You can also find some explanation and screenshots of the program from the following link:
http://translate.google.com/translate?client=tmpg&hl=en&u=http://coneri.se/iphone/&langpair=sv|en
(translated to english)
If you have an apple account, you can also download the iphone version for free!!
that's a cool idea...+1 from me
me too...
+1
it's really a good and funny idea

DOn't make the mistake of making it simple, it will only be a laughing matter for the fanboys at work if you know what I mean. My point is, if you're going to copy, why not improve the idea right?
Btw, great job on the accelerometer Ikari, you're the man!

So, I am looking at getting some decent headphones for my 501.
I will be needing a Mic as I do Skype calls.
I will also need something with a long enough cable to have my tablet in my bag.
Also looking for something with some form of external control, to skip tracks.
I have been looking at the Klipsch s4a, which look great, but I haven't been able to find all that much online in the way of reviews, just been reading s4i reviews.
Was also thinking about the Ultimate Ears 600vi, but unsure if these will work.
I will be using these for both my 501 and my new phone, probably SGS2 or Nexus, depending on what they offer. (Undecided on what yet, as I am waiting on the outcome on an insurance job after my x10i stopped working... apparently water damage, but I am gonna tell them to stick that where the sun don't shine, but that is a different story.)
Can anyone point me at possibly something else?
Budget is between $75 and $150 ($AUD)... maybe a lil more if the quality is there.
Maybe also consider the etymotic Hf2s? Great for isolation, great general sound also.
I tried a stereo+Mic adapter and got nowhere. so either the Iconia won't take mic in on that port or it just won't do mic and stereo.
I use the Motorola hd9 they are blue-tooth and work great. They have newer models of this headset. When the ones i have now go bad i will Buy the newer version. OHH And they get up to 8 hours on a charge. Only downside is you cant use them while charging.. mine are now maybe 3 years old..
I use the Etymotic HF2, too. Really the best headphones I've ever had.
Hi,
I am sorry if this is the wrong forum, I don't know enough to put it else where. I have a GMC full sized van. My DIN opening is actually larger than 7", I could fit an 8" screen in there if I wanted. I also have other options and tons of room. I could cut the dash, go as big as 15, or even 19". I could have a console where a large screen lifts up with some servo or mechanical assembly. Or just simply a flip.
I bought a Hui Fie (sp?) head unit that matches the van. I like it, the colors match perfect, it's the higher res, with a quad core. However there are few things I'd like to improve. I could almost lose the buttons and relocate key ones, like the "home", "return", "navi" etc for a larger screen. Also, I find the buttons feel rather cheap compared to even the GM ones. And the GM ones are nothing high end, but they feel right.
Is it feasible to build a carputer and run android in it? SW controls possible? Are the keys I mention above possible? Canbus? Or would there be another route available by using the head unit I have and attaching to it to a larger screen? One thing I wish these units had was hdmi in and out, and an RJ45 connector for hardwiring a network.
I have a lot of projects on the go, money I should be spending elsewhere, and time that just doesn't... seem to leave me with the right energy and mindset, but I'd like to know if these things are possible. Of course with money and time, but for an average or a bit over average determined person, can they set all this up hardware wise? Is there other directions to find these means? I could literally do anything, it's just time and resources of learning to code new languages and source parts, etc. that limit me. If we were all rich and retired, many of us could do amazing things.
For me, it's a distraction, a hobby and a way to improve my work life. As long as I get the project done. That's the other downfall, you start on a path of perpetual upgrades that never end. But it's enjoyable.
Some head units (the NU3001 for example) are nothing more than an android box attached to a double din screen and buttons. If you can find a monitor that will fit you can pretty much plug in the android box anywhere.
Hi,
Well, I kind of figured that much. I guess you're the only person I've communicated with that confirmed it. However, how would you manage hooking up a larger LCD? You'll most likely have a ribbon cable to connect and you will be limited to the same resolution right? Some of my ideas envision the box much further from the LCD screen. So even if the ribbon cable and drivers work with the larger LCD, it's a physical problem.
The buttons, I don't think they'd be too difficult. You could either solder a tacky solution with wires to extend the location, or you could use SW controls to a button layout with the same resistance values. Seems simple enough. I'd like to know if a car computer is possible in any highly simple way. I can't deal too much with software and drivers right now, too involved for my head with all the other things. But it would be nice to drop in add ons, have an rj45 connector, hdmi in and out.
Maybe my plans are too excessive. Actually, I know they are as of Friday, some priorities have changed and need to reduce things for the time being. This is just an exercise for thought and a potential path in the future.
I do like that radio. I actually wished I bought it after using mine for a little while. Same specs I believe, but the layout actually suited my desires better. Knobs are good, for the size of mine, I'd rather either have one larger, or none. The home and return are necessities to me now.

With limited time available, I think the answer is no.
Maybe within 1-2 years, with more "community experience" and threads etc., it may be more feasible for people with limited time.
I think the closest you can get right now is to install an Android tablet. This won't, in and of itself, provide hardware buttons, nor other things you desire.
All you want is technically possible of course (with lots of time/work), and I'm sure several home-built Android HU projects that go beyond installing a tablet will arise over the next few years.
For anyone who disagrees, note that OP does not have time to "mess around". If you still disagree, point me to a project thread or blog etc. where somebody has already done all that OP asks about and which won't require too much time to duplicate. Lets say,... 16 hours maximum.
the single speaker has a very low volume level. can anyone suggest a solution? (i read the other thread).
phone is difficult to hear in noisy environments. forget playing music on the speaker. it's just a very whimpy monaural speaker.
i have tried 4 apps to boost volume, and only SpeakerBoost made much difference, but the app warns not to exceed a certain volume which is the point you start to gain some volume.
can i actually do physical improvements to the phone, like converting it to stereo w/2 speakers? where could the parts be bought? i'm in USA.
i am not rooted. would there be a solid solution if i rooted? or did 1 + just skimp on the speaker?
the equalizer that was included w/the 1+2 initially is long gone, but it really was not helpful for any significant volume boost.
I am disappointed in the 1+2 (and the retail price has plummeted like a rock), and their poor customer service.
unfortunately, hardware mods is a far fetched idea as there is already very less space, and fitting a whole speaker is, almost impossible. also the power and audio routing is not feasible.
your best bet, IMO is to look into software mods, specially rooted ones. look up the forums, you might find some. check user opinions and you may find one useful enough.
this is what i use. .works quite well:

Out of the blue 1+ contacted me about a reception issue...
that was not resolved months ago. i would really appreciate any feedback on the following:
I took the opportunity in my response to 1+ to mention the speaker issue. anyway, after owning the 1+2 for months, i believe that the speaker and reception problems are design flaws; that 1+ simply skimped on some portions of the phone and hyped it as a flagship killer.
can anyone offer any input on a way to get significantly more volume out of the phone speaker without damaging it?
a top end tech at att wireless explained to me that someone in my building who has a cheap flip phone likely has better reception than my 1+2. this was the highest i could go up the att tech ladder. Further, i see this as a design flaw, because other immediate neighbors using the same carrier do not have the significant reception issues i experience.
anyway, i sent the phone on about an 8000 mile RT repair trip to some 3rd party repair shop that handles 1+ repairs for 1+. absolutely nothing was done about the reception issue.
Now, a 1+ representative wants me to again send the phone back to repair. they just ignore that i say these issues are design flaws.
when i heard a neighbor using their old samsung phone (speakers) like a stereo, i realized the 1+2 speaker is much worse than i realized.
i asked 1+2 for a refund or an upgrade; they turned me down.

i guess i best root the phone once again.
+1 for arise sound system, it works well
use v4a
Has anyone used one in person yet? Does it sound any better or worse?
I have bought it, and my opinion is that it sounds very good. But I'm not an audiophile and it's my first Joying unit so can't compare. I did have to turn off SRS and a "LOUD" option in the menus or else the bass was too booming.
But for me, it has ample quality & power for my needs.

Actually, yes I did take a picture. Here you go:

I will need to take the front off to replace the digitizer when I get it from Joying (Part of the touchscreen does not respond to touches). So if you need a better closeup of something, just say so.

seeing a simple 2DIN (with standard screen) internals my intuition was correct and I think (of course I can't be 100% sure unless I will buy and motherboard and swap it myself) they lied to me because it's almost identical with the board that I am having in my unit.... so upgrading just the motherboard looks promising... but I guess time will tell.
It's the current sophia Joying with a Class-D amplifier and we can make a reasonable assumption is probably to reduce manufacturing cost. Class-D isnt new nor does it mean "audiophile". Considering all parts of the audio chain, such as preamp, DAC etc, even installing a class A amp wouldnt improve the overall quality. Dont buy into the marketing spin
Yes, but you do get more features with the new board and less heat. There are some advantages.

Compared with the first generation is better..... at least they FINALLY offer a decent EQ solution and given the fact that are the only ones out there doing this I applaud them.... The others still drag the same old amp chip from generation to generation like they drag the same crappy bluetooth inplementation.... Yes the quality might not be for everyone but you need to consider that they sell them for $300.....
If you want high audio quality you need to empty the wallet for at least 700$ up to 2000$

Less heat generated by the amp because unfortunately the SoM still does not have a proper cooling solution and even if this generation (FYT6021) is of a tiny bit better designed it's still not good enough.

Generation 2? This is the same hardware with a class D amp replacing the class AB amp. Users are paying more for a unit that costs less to produce but with software that apparently sounds better. Do you realise how your comments sounds?
Let's be clear - there is nothing wrong with the stmicro class AB amp, Joyous replace it with a class D amp and save on manufacturing cost. The software could be applied to any sofia - the codec / DAC is the same.
To say "same old amp chip" is nonsense. Thanks for your opinion - also did you also realise the codec hardware is actually 3 band parameteric.
The youtube videos are pure comedy.

First of all please take a deep breath and relax, we are sharing ideas here, opinions, don't get angry or upset for nothing Also please don't use phrases like this " Do you realise how your comments sounds?" with me.... is not like I tried to convince you that our sun is flat....
No, what I meant was that first generation unit had the 5009 SoM... the second generation was quietly introduced with a slightly improved 6021 SoM and very other small modification like removing the video out ports for instance..... and now they decided to take the 6021 and work the magic with the amp. Maybe "generation" is now well put here because the changes between the models were very small but I am sure everyone gets the idea.
To be honest I did not dive into the amp details on the old units versus the new but OVERALL my impression is that the AMP/DAC solution presented in the Chinese units in the past 3 years is about the same and the sound quality is modest.
The problem is that in my car I want to be able to tune the music to my liking and all of the Chinese units have very, very poor EQ that in no way can help me achieve my goals.... The fact that the amp is class AB means nothing to me (or for most of the people that buy these units) if the sound is not good... and EVERY single Chinese unit that I've seen lack in the bass department BIG TIME no matter the EQ settings or if they use an class AB amp. The only thing that made things better was Viper4Android.
Now if they decide to put an D amplifier, so be it, as long as it sounds better and it's more customisable than the AB amplifier was that is fine by me.
You need to remember that very few people struggle to root their units to be able to install Viper4Android for better sound so choosing between an class AB amp with poor 3 band EQ and an class D amp with software EQ with lots of bands that makes the sound a lot better ... guess what everyone will prefer?

I am entitled to have my opinions. You might like them or not, that depends but try not be be ironic or sarcastic.... it's not helping me one bit.
If you want to help me understand explain to me your opinion, your side of things, how do you see things and do it in a friendly manner, educate me and everyone on the matter at hand. I am sure that me and everyone will appreciate it.
