I recently bought the SEIDIO 1600mAh battery off store.xda-developers.
The battery works, no problems there.
The thing is,
I have seen many programs that provide information as ACR mAh and FULL mAh.
The FULL mAh is basically the capacity of the battery.
It indicates with this new extended battery only 1380 which is the approximate range of the OEM battery!!
I thought, this is a piece of data in the firmware and it just reads that but the actual 1600 is being used, SURPRISINGLY NO.
Today, I was flashing an OEM SPL to my Kaiser (SPL 3.28.0000) for performance related issues.
As you all probably know, to be able to flash anything you should have at least 50% of your battery charge.
I hade a 54% which is a good to go.
Attempted to flash.
What happened was, it did not flash which was very ODD considering I have HardSPL and I can basically flash my way through anything.
So, I soft reset the phone then the surprise was it was only reading 32%!!!!
The battery could not have drained that much in maximum 1.5 minutes
So, I'm guessing although we might have purchased extended batteries; we are not experiencing their full potential.
Is there any workaround for to regedit the full battery capacity from 1380 to 1650mAh?
Help is much appreciated on this.
i'm not sure on the regedit, i seriously doubt it is possible, but i haev one to top that, my phone read that i had 86% power left and it started running slow without anything running, and then froze. i soft reset and when it came back about 60 seconds later it had 13% power left
I think batteries are fine. it's just some firmware limitation that can be bypassed.
Afterall, it is just a piece of firmware; i am sure someone out there got over it already.

I apologize if this has already been asked. I *DID* search around this site, several others and even Google but no one seems to have posted a comparison of extended battery compatibility along with pros/cons of the expanded battery cover backing...
So, like everyone else, my Tilt doesn't last overnight w/o a recharge. In looking at my options for extended batteries, it looks like the largest are the Mugen 3000, the Seidio 3200 and the Mobi 3000.
I'm curious as to peoples opinions on these major points:
1-Duration coupled with whether the battery causes lock-ups/freezes or other errors for the phone...
2-How the revised back cover of the phone compares to the OEM cover with respect to the camera lens, speaker and GPS.
3-Cases and cradle chargers that will work w/ extended battery covers...
4-Tweaks or other hacks needed for the Tilt to recognize the extended battery time.

Instead of other I think you should have put the option of " I dont know". I think people clicked for the sake of clicking to see the results quicker. My 2 cents.
extended battery
I have a Boxwave 2700 mah and a Seidio 1600 mah battery. The boxwave is from Taiwan with a humped back cover, so I can use my Seido holster, but will not fit in my cradle. Does fit into my Brodit car holder though, and the full backed extended battery cover will as well.
I cannot for the life of me get the correct battery reserve power reading correct. I have tried every tweak and twitch I have read and perused the registry for settings not mentioned elseware, as well as various 3rd party battery utilities, to no avail. Quite frustrating, as I can alarm on low battery, pull it out, put it back in and have 45-60% battery left on the meter. Don't know what else to do, as it does it with my 1600 and 2700 and did it with a "borrowed' Mugen 3000 for a test. Tried all the reccomendations of running it fully down and doing recharge, all that stuff, still wrong indicaitons of remaining power.
This is my greatest frustration right now with the Tilt I have and the other 8 I have bought for employees.

I ordered the Seidio 3200 battery and tried charging it in my AT&T 8925 Tilt. I left it on charge until the light turn Green.
Starting using it and within 8 hours I was at LOW battery and system died. I removed the battery and put it back in and the battery indicated goes up to 73%.
What is the deal here. Is it my phone that does not understand that it has a larger battery or is it the battery. Since that time I have sent the battery and got a new one and the same thing.
Is there some software utility to tell the Pocket PC that it has a larger battery.

As I sit here perusing options for replacement Wizard and Kaiser batteries (my sister's phone and my own...) I suddenly fear the pointlessness of choosing an extended battery! Has any headway been made on these extended battery glitches in general?
Nope. The Tilt's hardware always expects the standard battery's capacity, and will turn off when that is reached even if the battery is actually twice the capacity and is still half full.
So what you're saying is buying an extended battery is useless because it will shut off at the regular Tilt battery level? Well, glad I read this thread, I won't waste my money.
Yep. However you can remove/reinsert the battery and have more running time again. But then in that case as you have to turn the device off and open the case anyway you're better off getting a 2nd standard battery and swapping it when it's empty. Saves you from having a Kaiser that's twice as thick for nothing.
What About....
Well, I think one objective would be to try charging it as often as possible. It may be that if you plug it back into a charger, it will grant an extension of time. But in the event you are unable to charge it, you could simply remove and reinsert the battery to continue on. Has anyone tried this? I'm curious to know.

Could someone please clarify this as I find it confusing as well, I'm just using the times and percent for reference to understand.
Lets say with the stock battery it takes 8 hours to get to 40%.
Will an extended battery like those listed give me longer, like maybe 10-12 hours before it gets to 40%?
I too have searched and read everything from people swearing to get no extra time at all no matter what they do, to people getting double the talk/data time and everything in between, including but not limited to that the usable time gets longer with each recharge. If I'm going to have to take the battery out 3 times a day, I might as well just get 4 or 5 extra stock sized batteries for the same price.
Looking for someone to clear the fog...

If I could get 3 more hours before shut-down, that might be worth it. It would mean 90% of the time, I'd get 12 hours of use as long as I didn't need the GPS. It would have meant last week I would have not spent an extra 30 minutes on ice because the GPS quit with less than a mile to go, but I didn't know which way, and I had not way to charge it, so I spent an extra 45 minutes trying to find the highway home when it was time to leave. Just 3 extra hours would have been perfect.
I can't tell you how many times an extra 30 minutes even would have made all the difference in the world, and I really can't think of a time when I needed more than a couple hours.
I realize I'm playing to its weakness. I rarely use the phone itself, but I'm always in email, rss feeds, web browsing, listening to music and using the GPS.
If an extended battery will get me through a normal workday without having to rush home to charge it... That would make me a happy camper.
I have the Mugen 3000
I have the seidio 3200 and after i fully charged it for the first time use, I use it for like 12 hours of txt, calls, internet and normally at the end of the 12 hours i have about 20% of battery left. Just mainly depends on what ROM your using, what radio your using and what programs you have running. Just because 5 people have the same battery doesnt mean all 5 people use their phones for the same thing. Best thing i found is find the one with the highest battery life and go with it.

I would really like some advice - my battery is draining like water. I'm quite convinced it is the regulation of the unit; I bought a 2400mAh battery replacement and it lasted ages on first go, but then my G1 started draining stupidly fast after I'd recharged it. This also happens on the stock battery too (buy even quicker!). I'm convinced it is the regulation because a) I've never had battery problems previously and b) the battery meter starts at about 26% when I plug it it in (after the phone shuts off from it being dead and I then plug in the charger).
I actually have a bricked G1 that still charges batteries, so I thought I'd do an overnight charge on the battery that way, to 'remind' the other G1 what a 100% battery is like, but that didn't seem to work either.
Can someone help? Is this a known problem? I would really appreciate any advice.

GPS doesn't really drain battery unless it's actively being used...at least not on my phone.
You can also try disabling 3G if you're not in a 3G area. It will keep trying to find a 3G signal, which really drains battery.
For the record, I have a stock battery that I get ~13-16 hours on from a single charge... my backlight is at 40%, GPS is always on, and I use wifi whenever I want to surf the web and am near an open network.
OP...if your battery is lasting you only a couple of hours, then I'd try to reflash your ROM. Might help...
Wow 13 to 16, I am lucky if I get 6 with 30% backlight, and wi-fi and gps off, I have always gotten that on ever rom even stock with no widgets, you are one of the very few with good battery life cause I have seen many complaints about short battery ranges

Yeah, that's on a normal, moderate usage day. If I use it heavily, with a lot of wifi and web browsing, then I'll get around 10.
Maybe your battery needs to be replaced... could just be old and not holding a charge properly.
It's 2 months old, has done it from day one, I also have another battery that does it too that I kept from a previously brick g1, so one 3 phones, all the same battery life but then I use it quite heavily, always browsing on the web since my computer burned out

Thanks for the suggestions, but it's not a wifi/3g/brightness etc problem - I've had a G1 for six months, I know exactly how much power should be consumed. It's also not the battery; I have two stock batteries and a brand new 2400mAh battery, which for the first few charges lasted about 2 - 2.5 days and was brilliant (as it should be), but now doesn't last all that long.
I may have made the situation slightly better however - I did a Nandroid backup, wiped to factory (well, Cyanogen 4.0.4 anyway) and booted into that. I then restored the backup and when I plugged back in to the charger, the meter was at 85%, and seemed to take a normal amount of time to charge (and not jump to 100%). It remains to be seen if the problem is solved, I've yet to have the battery drain (this is a good sign though) an plug in the charger to see if it will jump from 0 to 25 or not.
I'll re-post when I know.

do this 3-5 times and see if you get any improvement.
also remember some of the cheap 2400 batts from ebay and such claim 2400 but that is from 3.5V to 3.0V. The G1 considers 3.2V to be dead so you only get from 3.5V to 3.2V which sucks.
I'm with gridlock on this one. My batteries suck. It always needs a mid day charge. And to the poster that said to reflash a rom, that is bad advice. There is known issues with getting poor performance out of these batteries. I have 2 and both do the same. Got the second one from complaining to t-mo about how bad it sucks.
Reflashing seems to have worked...the 2400mAh battery seems a lot better now, it lasted nearly two days (it runs at 3.7v, according to my battery diagnostic), I've only just recharged it last night. When I plug it in, it charges normally and linearly now, instead of jumping straight to 25%.
So my advice, if anyone is having similar problems to me, would be to try a reflash.

Well, Ive had mine since november 09 and never changed it. Still holds a decent charge, probably not quite as much as when it was brand new but cetainly not a noticeable difference.

Typically a li-ion battery will lose 20% of its capability after one year (even if you don't use it) A few things can influence the exact amount (keeping it always at 100% will speed up the loss, as will high temperatures)
If you really want to know exactly what the loss is.....
Fully charge a battery and remove it. Leave it a few hours or overnight and then use a voltmeter to see what the voltage is. This will tell you how much capacity it has lost.
4.18v -4.2v=100% (ie perfect battery)
4.10v = 87%
4.0v =75%

I have a an old magician I bought new 8 years ago & still works with original battery.
My touch pro is almost 3 years old & still works fine lasting 2 days on energy ROM with original battery & the same can be said for wifes old Diamond 2 Topaz.
Doing output test & using HTC battery test exe may help determine battery condition if battery is suspected faulty.
My conclusion is a genuine good battery should see over 2 to 3 years use without noticeable performance loss & have a serviceable life beyond 5yrs.
Modern devices such as HD2 which has a small battery & drains a lot of power so may lower the battery lifespan as you will be charging that tiny battery almost twice as often, also current battery material quality may have declined.
I've had this phone for a while, and i just haven't been using it the past, ohh year? I tried a while back to fix it, and I know it's something to do with my phone/it's battery, It can stay in standby for about 26 hours, (no wifi, no sim card), but any phone call or wifi use lasting over ~5 minutes and the phone dies, but the phone reports that it still has about 30% battery left as it's shutting off!
Is it possible my phone isnt allowing my battery to charge fully?
I remember reading somewhere about the phone storing battery stats? I wanted to give fixing my battery one last try before I break down and order a new one :/
it's running CyanogenMod-4.2.15.1 (firmware 1.6)
so it has whatever ancient recovery comes with that, I would upgrade my phone but I don't trust it not to die during a flash and brick it.
To sum up the wall of text, my battery is dying from 80% in <5 minutes when not plugged in, and it dies when it says it has approx 20% battery left.
The battery is also sort of bulgey, perhaps, it's like 5/4 the size it should be? 9/8? , it makes a tiny bit of a bulge appear on the keyboard too.

Certifiably battery here, i tried with my dad's battery and it seems okay, but i'm not entirely sure because i didnt have my sim card in it to test its usage lifespan
My G1 has terrible battery life, even when I'm not using it, I think the best solution is to buy a new battery

So i recently flashed CleanDFT ROM, first couple of days the meter read out 1 day and 18 hours which im very surprised then it went down to 1 day and 4 hours, now this morning i unplugged and it tells me i got 19 hours left from full charge, should i go by this? or is there something wrong?

Redirecting you to the right place.
If you have just flashed a new rom, in general, you need to go through a couple of battery cycles before the battery read can be accurate. I remember when flashing my ATT FUze I had to wait 2-3 complete charging cycles ie. discharging battery to 10% and charging back to full before I could get accurate reading. If you are experiencing worse battery time than before flashing after 2-3 cycles you might need to reflash the rom; you should see better battery time with custom roms, so I have heard.
I also wouldn't go by the battery saver timing, I would go by wpbench or real time use to get an accurate reading on battery time. I have a 1800 mah battery in my focus and it reads 24 hours on battery life
As far as i know, doesnt all the ROMs have basically the same battery life?
Ill be going out of town sometime this week and ill be out most of the day, i need a rom thatll at least last a whole 12 to 14 hours at the most or whole day at best of just occasional twittering and occasional checks on facebook and probably capture some pictures and a video and maybe an hour at most on music? im sure this phone can handle it but idk what you guys suggest
I have the same issue with ATT samsung focus with Roger latest updates, the battery meter is just not accurate, sometimes full and just reboot upon eject from the micro usb. The battery was fine until recently. Found a few other with the same issue online, no solution available yet.

The solution is exactly the same as it is on a laptop.
Lithium ion batteries, and, actually, come to think of it, pretty all rechargeable batteries lose capacity over time. The phone, to begin with, doesn't have a good idea of how much capacity is left, and it has to estimate based on previous performance. This is partially a result of battery manufacturers going as cheap as possible with the circuitry in lithium ion batteries.
The phone needs to figure out how old your battery is. This data is definitely lost with a new rom. Leave it to charge overnight, then unplug it and let the battery run all the way to dead. Charge it again, and your battery percentages should be correct. It may take more than one cycle, but the meter should settle into a correct estimate eventually.
Incorrect battery stats are a possible reason for fluctuations in battery life and reseting them as described in the previous post can help.
Another thing which you can do is use an app like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328730 to check the reported mV rating of your battery at full charge. That can serve as an indicator of the battery life you can expect with your current battery stats.
