skyfire beta 2 released today - Mogul, XV6800 General

skyfire released today and it aint to bad, just thought id put it out there

oh good...maybe ill finally get a chance to use it!

samer version as before?? .6 something??

No, it was released almost two weeks ago.

I am on the Beta 2 list (confirmed on the website just now), but didn't get any notification about the download. Any suggestions on how to get it?

Any other sprint users having problems with flash on this. videos and other flash items are VERY jerky. Practically no motion. I even reset the phone with similar results. would the custom rom here work better?

Skyfire Release
Just got the invite yesterday after 6 months of waiting.

i signed up for the beta 2 test back in April...im hoping i get my invite soon.
by any chance, do u guys know what the difference is between Opera and this software? after looking at the video on youtube and playing with Opera on my 6800, im not sure y there's so much hype...aside from Skyfire is 100% server based so information is trasfered faster at the cost of security (info u type may be saved in their servers)...let me know guys.

operamini is server-based also and is faster than skyfire

I disagree with this, I think skyfire is faster.

Help with SKYFIRE

If you don't know what Skyfire is please chek this:
http://www.skyfire.com/product
I have this skyfire beta but i don't live in the US and i'm not registered in their database so i can't try this amazing wannabe browser.
So i ask you if anyone could hack this beta and make it free to use for everyone.
Thank you guys, you are the best!

Nope. Skyfire is server-side based.
Also, there are a lot of developers on here. Ask them how they'd like it if a CLOSED beta of theirs got cracked in such a manner. Just wait your turn and it'll come to you when they have a more polished product.

the point of this forum is to develop independant software to improve the platform. not wreak the chances of a company trying to do the same. the software is free to use. i'm waiting as well and looking forward to getting my chance, do it the right way mate
How about you sign up and wait for it like everybody else. Relax, just use Opera Mini, it's better.

Anybody used this yet? Looks like a worthy competitor to Opera 9.5.
I was hoping somebody could provide a quick review.
Saw this one here a xda---voices where not good about it.
Its nothing more than an addon for pie
Oh. Well that's disappointing...
I emailed them asking why they don't have a trial version and they replied that one should be available next week.

New Version Of Opera Mobile Today 2008-10-20

I just wandered over to the site to look for the heck of it and check it out!
Last updated: 20.10.2008
http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/
Awesome trying it now, Been running the 2325 build that was from the diamond I think which was pretty sweet as it got rid of that stupid out of memory error. Been running great on my titan thus far. Will try this one see if anything has been improved or changed.
Thanks for the update!
P.S. Mozilla should be coming out very shortly as well!!! Also very excited to see how well that one runs!!
update: Well after using the beta 2 update. I still get the nice out of memory error after browsing the Neverwinter Nights 2 forums with a second tab open as well as other news sites. Never encountered this error with the 2392 build. Oh well. Back to that build until they fix this stupid error.
Can anyone else give their opinion on the new Opera Mobile? I haven't tried it yet. I was curious if it was better than Opera Mini and/or Skyfire.
It still seems too bulky for this device...it's better than IE, but Opera Mini beats in by a long shot. Still no flash either.
I think Opera Mini is by far the best browser ever. Obviously has its limitations... But when it comes to speed, its unbeatable. I can happily surf 4chan and jj.am, as well as any other website.

Sure let me see what I can whip up! I'll edit this post and put in a link when I am done.
Here is the orignal link to the post. It was posted by one of our fellow ever helpful XDA users phouki. Credit goes to him for different cab builds and information!
Clicky click!
Oh okay. I have never used one of the many builds from the diamond. How stable is it?
Which build do you use for the Mogul? That might be just a little helpful to include

MUCH more stable on our devices than the official Beta builds.

Well I use it everyday to surf and read new sites / forums including this one and excluding the load times it takes for opera servers to convert and realign the formats it's quite solid. I also am a mogul user and this is the build I use incase anyone was curious if I was even a fellow mogul user.

skyfire .9B is out!

It is much more stable and can play flash 10 !
get.skyfire.com point that on on opera/IE or w/e
It seems it does not work with the T-mobile proxy plan for those who are wondering. I just tried it . It does seem to start up faster with my Herald.
Can someone tell me the SHA or MD5 hash for this file? It only seem to be getting the same file I got several days ago.
Cool thanks for the heads up, installed and ran good on my TP

Confirmed.
I just downloaded & installed. No reg required.
I still like Iris better for typical website rendering. Skyfire is a bit slow
would the installation of this version delete my currant favs?
Still no VGA rendering. Still sucks on VGA devices.

Skyfire itself uses a proxy, so its highly unlikely it will ever be compatible with another proxy.
Somekind of proxy... It's rendering sites on external server intead of device.
And the redering is slow for me. Uninstalled.
Works pretty fast and good for me. Thanks for pointing out the update.
It is finally getting close to the hype
I was excited when Skyfire was first released, but found that the simple things like text entry made it too much of a hassle to use compared to Iris. I see that now many of those shortcomings have been overcome. I'll still use Iris as my primary browser ( I love that most sites show me the "Iphone" version of their site ) but I'll be keeping Skyfire around this time at least for viewing flash sites. I was able to watch Hulu yesterday with Skyfire, and that was pretty cool. If thats all it was good for it would be a keeper.

+1. i dont need it to replace opera - just play video sites like hulu and thats good enough for me
does it still have problems with loading long pages and getting the bottom of them cut off?
Nice browser!
it is best browser i've seen - it requires some power, so do not be surprised with feeble htc units.
iris is ok, but no flash support, and its slower that it should at current state.
skyfire and opera mini - two things that good to have cooked into roms, imo.
416 mhz xscale is enough to handle skyfire.
loved skyfire the minute it came out, simply because of flash support and fast rendering of most sites.

lol good question! will it?
Well as the demonstation is running on an X1 I'd bloody well hope so!
Yes it is, if you go to the opera website then to mobile, you'll see a link which says: "Opera Mobile 9.7 beta is ready to rev up your phone", underneath this, there is a date which that link was posted, 08/06/09 - obviously that date hasn't arrived yet. it not the full version, but it has the Turbo feature in it, which isn't the final version either.

I lol'd...
So finally the beta versions is arriving? Can't wait to browse in TURBO speed. Yeah!
That 'turbo" thing looks fishy to me.....
think it's the same tech that opera mini use
where everything goes passed opera's servers which
compress pages so stuff load faster if you are on a
slow connection
but it really slow things down if you're on a fast one
which is why the feature is default turned off in opera 10 beta on pc
So whats the current news on it?

Well, if you head over to the Opera Mobile page (http://www.opera.com/mobile/), they have a news snipette there on the bottom right that it's out, the article is dated today. However, clicking through points to a "No press release at this URL" page. Sounds like it's gonna be out pretty soon later today!
