PPC PIM Backup need help! - Wing, P4350 General

Hey guys, I just flashed over to Open Touch for my Wing because the stock ROM was awful and Messaging was sluggish as hell. So fast forward five hours and I've got it running with a few tweaks and cool apps when I decide I should probably restore my data.
Well..
I did two back ups before I flashed. One with everything but Messages, and everything still ran awesome when I restored it,
and one with all 12k of my texts. That's when things went downhill. So basically I'm asking if someone can upload a PIM backup file of an empty text inbox/outbox as I can't delete them! Anyone? I'm also down for easy ways to dump my whole mess of messages in hopes I get this working again
Thanks guys

Hard reset: check for safety

Hi there,
I've found a lot of information on the wiki and this forum, and maybe it's because I don't have any experience with this, but I'm still nervous about doing a hard reset... Yeah laugh if you like
I want to perform a hard reset because I've messed around with my HD a lot and want to start with a clean installation.
Because I already once lost all my contacts I just want check if I'll be allright if I do the following:
- All applications (cab), music, photo's, documents placed on storage card
- PIMBackup to make a backup of my contacts
I don't have any troubles reconfiguring my e-mail accounts.
But really, this is it? Or do I miss something? I can't come up with anything more I'd need to backup. Any tips?
Thanks in advance!

First off welcome to XDA.
There is various backup software available which you can use. Best free one would be Sashimi which can be used to backup everything including contacts, emails, apps installed, registry changes, settings. However this takes a bit of settings up first time unfortunately. Another free backup tool is PIMBackup which can be used to backup contacts & emails.
There is also 3rd party backup apps like SPB Backup, Resco Backup & Sprite. A word of caution using these though. You can only really use these for contacts, emails etc as changing between roms means settings, registries etc would not be the same on each rom, so if you where to perform a full backup including settings, apps installed etc and then perform a full restore this could cause complications when changing between roms
Thanks a lot Enough confirmation to run it this evening.
I'm not feeling like changing to another ROM. I can't decide what ROM is a decent one, there's too much choice and too much testing involved. I've worked a lot with Linux and used a lot of beta-software, which ended in endless errorsolving. I kinda want a lite ROM which simply works. I already spend 3 hours reading the forum today (I love my job ;-) and can't find the right reasons to choose a lite and stable ROM
So I'll guess I'm going back to the original state of the phone as it was when I bought it a year ago. Or is there any ROM you'd specifically recommend?
All I do is sync with outlook. Then hard reset. It's then just a case of installing what apps you want and re-syncing. simples. By doing it that way you will only get back on your device what you actually want.

Yes this is very true, but if you use Sashimi, whole process can be done in 5-10 mins, i.e. everything from flashing to having apps installed, settings changed etc. Only difficulty with Sashimi is the initial setup of it.

SPB Backup

Im running 6/20 Mightyrom and COOKIES HOME and LOCK SCREEN MOD. I have been using SPB backup and set it to automatically backup every day at 2AM to my storage card. it has been working... HOWEVER.. in the past few days it will no longer do an automated backup UNLESS I have the phone ON and UNLOCKED.... if the phone is off, it will wake up, start the backup and time out. I tested it last night without COOKIES LOCK SCREEN usng the regular WM lock screen and same issue...this WAS working before...
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks...
I had a similar issue with SPB BU.
I solved the problem by unchecking the folders where bu's were stored and by unchecking backing up the back ups.
Mine is set to save 3 backups and truncate all others. But when the program was trying to back up a back up, it locked up.
Thanks.. I already have mine set that way and it still times out...
any other ideas?
UPDATE: after I wrote the message, I decided to create a NEW FOLDER on the storage card and send all backups to it.. it worked.. Must be something in the old folder... We'll see if it keeps working......
and you have it set NOT to back up the folder where the BU's are being stored, right?
I am nearly certain that was the problem. SPB BU was caught in its own web of backing up its earlier back ups.

[Q] Change Build without losing Settings and Programs

Hi there!
I was using shubCraft Build for 2 month now. Sadly shubCraft isnt maintained anymore... so i would like to change to another, new build (maybe with Sense), but i dont want to lose all programs and settings of my current build.
Can i change the Build without losing Settings and Programs? Are maybe these things stored in data.img?
Thx and greetz,
infernalshade
it's pretty hard to keep setting when switching build, because some settings seem to break stuff in other builds. if you want to keep your programs, just use titanium backup and save em. after changing build simply replicate em back. some savegames need to be saved separately from the game files it self. a very prominent example is angry birds. i have changed my build yesterday and rebuild my data.img and my save was gone. today i found what to save you can ask here if you have specific questions about saving specific program settings.
Hm by settings I mean things like messages, contacts, dates and notes... on wm I've used spb backup for this, is there any program for android too?

What did you do to save your progress in angry birds? That game is addicting and how I kill downtime at work! Ready to try a new build but pretty far on the game.

You only had to scroll down about 10 threads from this one for the answer (or search): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813279
Or I could ask here since that it the last statement of the post by Screemi. I didn't realize that it was the same user posting in that thread and was looking to see if there were different solutions that could be used.
Noone knows any good program to backup messages, contacts, dates and notes? I mean such a program like SPB Backup!
myphoneexplorer works like a treat for me. i backup my contacts, massages, etc. withit. don't know if it can backup notes.
Ok Notes are not the Problem, the important thing are contacts, messages, dates and programs
Ok, MyphoneExplorer and Titanium Backup worked fine, thx!
I havent saved my Angry Birds Saves, the newest Version of Titanium Backup is saving it too
Hi again, i have another question left:
Is it possible to update the Version of the SAME build without losing any data?
I'm using MDJ FroYo Sense Clean Build now (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780525). Today a new Version was released, with some fixes i need!
So, is it possible?

Just don't overwrite your data.img file and you should be fine. I'd back up your SD card to be sure you have what you need, but what I do is just update what you need to update: Usually everything in Android folder except the data.img file. If you have saved ringtones or other notifications that are custom, I'd keep the SD\Android\Media folder the same too.
data files almost always work across the same build. Read the change log and the first post because most Chefs let you know if you can't keep your data.img file.

AppExtractor - restore data from nandroid backups

I haven't really seen any mention of this app around the Atrix forums so I thought I'd make sure everybody was aware of it. It's called AppExtractor and the original thread on XDA is here.
It allows you to restore individual apps, data, SMS / MMS messages, Contacts / Call Logs, and Wifi Settings from your nandroid backups. I've effectively done away with Titanium Backup as this app completely replaces it for me. I don't do any freezing or anything like that so as far as that's concerned, I don't need it.
Since everybody should be making nandroid backups regularly and when flashing anyway, it eliminates the need for the additional backup with Titanium. It's made it extremely easy to move between ROMs and to try out new ones. Anyway, thought I'd mention it.
One more "thanks" from me for pointing that out. It looks great, has good rating in market (or "play"), I'll definitely test it.
i use it alot, its a great app..

Backup

Hi guys! just received my s7 edge yesterday, and i already miss root..
so i'm gonna root it, but i need to get a backup first.
And here is my question; is there a backup program that backs up everything? and i mean everything, from my audio recordings to text and call logs, also my apps and homescreen layout with folders etc.
just like when you use smart switch to basicly clone your old phone to your new one.
Ok, i just realised that i could use smart switch to do this when i installed an SD card. im gonna let this stay here at the wall of shame, incase another n00b like me comes along. lol
