I'm having some problems with s2p, It keeps on freezing up (especially when I try to do coverflow), and then closing. Am I just doing something wrong? or is this happening to other people. Sometimes it works fine, and i can do coverflow, open an album and change songs, but then sometimes, it will just freeze when i try to open a song. Other times i will just be sliding through the flow (either with a song playing or not) and it will hit an album and freeze, and it is not always the same album. Is there a way to fix this, or am i just running out of free ram or something? I have tried soft resetting and having more free RAM, but nothing seems to be working. Only programs I have open are ifonz and s2p.
BTW: I am using s2p v 0.40
iFonz and s2p are RAM intensive programs. on average iFonz requires 2.5 mb RAM and s2p needs about 5.5 mb RAM, from my expierence. together, thats 2/5'ths of the available RAM on startup. try closing iFonz an just running s2p. or find a player that doesnt use as much memory.
I have tried closing iFonz, and I have also tried soft resetting and just starting s2p to see if it works, but i sill have the same problem. I am beginning to see some albums that cause it to freeze (so it may be just specific files), but i don't want to have to delete some of my songs for it to work.
EDIT: Nevermind, it is probably not specific files (not positive though), as after doing a soft reset and having only s2p running, some of the albums it used to freeze on no longer freeze, but it still froze on a different album.
I am having another problem, and I think they are related, my programs keep closing when another one opens (i can't have more than 1 program running in my memory at a time, but it doesn't seem to apply to background programs like s2u2 or SPB Mobile shell), and I think that this thing that is causing all my programs to close, is closing s2p because of its RAM usage, but I have no clue what it is, and it has just started happening. Any ideas?
ive actually had this problem many times. i pm'd A_C and he told me that it may have something to do with...something (forgot what he said) embeded into certain album art and what-nots. ive since gave up on that program and started using a program called "audio Manager". its basically the same thing but it gives u the option of trimming songs and using them as ringtones, slide tones...etc. but u dont get that cool slide transition thingy...

One of the main features of PocketPlus that I use is the close button modification - so it closes programs as opposed to minimising them. However, it seems that it has stopped doing that.
I can't pinpoint anything that I've done to make this happen, I haven't installed any new software or changed any settings...
Can anyone think how I can fix this? It says it is set to 'close' rather than minimise in the options. All the ROMs and whatever on my Exec are default.
I'm using 3.04.

Should solve the problem (easiest way)
Okay, I've tried reinstalling BUT...
Before I uninstall, there is about 4MB of storage left. This doesn't increase when I uninstall, and when I reinstall it gives me the message about storage being critically low...
Also, when I look in memory in settings, it shows the storage memory as 7.4MB. However, when I go to install pocketplus it shows the memory available as 3.9MB.
Softreset before you uninstall then
It does that automatically, it says that I have to soft reset to complete the uninstallation. I have also done it manually.
I've removed something else now and in the memory settings pane and the remove programs pane it shows 8MB free, but when I go to install it it says 4.5MB free... Why could this be?
Reinstalling doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. It still isn't closing the programs.
Does anyone know of an alternate way to make the close button actually close things instead of minimising?
Got your same problem. Went even through a hard reset on my qtek 9000 and had it re-installed. Works for a couple of times than this function stops to work....Who knows why
I thus decided to go that way
-magic button (excellent freeware) it gives you many possibilities to manage apps closing or minimizing
-spb diary
-resco launcher (very essential launcher but n°1 memory saver
If resco launcher doesn't suit you keep magic button and go to illauncher
After you have played with complex and very aesthetical apps..you come back to efficiency.....
have fun

Magic button seems to be doing the trick now, thanks for the recommendation
I've installed this program on my Vario, but when uninstalling it it doesn't come off. Furthermore, my Vario isn't starting back up after it soft-resets itself to complete the uninstall. I tried just about everything, nothing will work!
Any suggestions??
Right now i'm running my Wing on a 4mb pagepool (about 24~25mb at startup), now my problem is audio manager use to run flawlessly on the wing until about two weeks ago. Before i could play it from "All Songs" and it never had any issues. Nowadays the only way i can use it is if i narrow down the song selection to one song at a time. Anytime i try to play more than a few, it'll hang and say RAM is low to close a program down, then crash shortly thereafter, requiring a soft reset. WMP works perfectly other than a few instances where RAM goes down to about 6mb (not frequently).
I've already removed and installed it (didn't work)
Installed other versions (didn't work)
Restored my pagepool back to 12mb and ran it (didn't work)
Hard reset, soft reset trick with Audio Manager only prog installed (still didn't work)
I really like this program and would like to see it work on my Wing again. Thanks

.........Can you share your HTC Audio Manager installer?
Are you running any programs in the background?
Here's the cab of the version i'm currently using. As for programs running in the background currently i have wisbar advance 2.x, s2u2 as far as i know. But remember, i did the hard reset, soft reset trick as well as used celetask to stop myfaves so i can clean out all startup apps, and it still wouldn't work properly. Another thing to mention, i believe it messed up after i installed Audio Booster from one of the threads. Audio Booster wasn't working properly and i ended up having to hard reset my Wing.
Pimp Down!
Lately i have been getting this Out of Memory exception Error ALOT. I am running IFONZ with not many customizations and no animations, and i run S2U and S2P from time to time, but anytime i have S2P open in the background and try to open any other app i get the out of memory error or the music starts to skip, DRIVING ME CRAZY. So i am asking of all of the different ROMs available which would be suggested that would have the largest amount of program memory available at startup, and would manage memory the best. Also if there is an App that will regulate memory on a consistent basis (when a program closes, reallocate that mem back to free prog. memory) then i think that would also be a possible solution to my problem. Anyone who can offer some help to a Pimp in Distress will be greatly appreciated.
I had this exact problem a few days ago and it drove me nuts.....My problem was i forgot to hit keylock while it was in my pocket and it started a voice record and recorded from my pocket and created an 80MB voice file which was all I had left in my free memory on the phone. I just went through file explorer and started to delete large files to make room and found that file by accident. Once removed it solved my problems. I also found about a dozen pictures of the inside of pocket that the camera had taken. ha ha ha.

You should also look into getting a tool to recover memory such as the oxios or even using the hybernate function in quickmenu. Also move as much as you can to your SD card to include games photos etc...Nex and DCD offer great stripped down ROMs without the OEM bloat.
I am using aserg windows mobile 6.1 rom and I have noticed a creeping problem. As time goes on, I can only seem to run 1 substantial program at a time.
For instance, if I try to run any of these programs in tandem:
HTC audio manager or Windows Media Player
Mundu mobile messenger
Opera
Internet explorer
Dictionary software
Outlook mail (sms/email)
Skype
the program in the background always closes. This is especially annoying when for instance I am listening to music and I get an email or sms, I go to check it and my music player just closes. Same if I try to browse the web and listen to music or check an sms, It is very annoying.
What causes this function in windows mobile and how do I turn it off?
As for memory, when I start I have 13-14 megs free memory. Any of these programs take an absolute MAXIMUM of 4-5 megs at peak usage. I should be able to run at least 2 together without a problem, and if another one does nto have enough memory, it shoudl just say so and not start, but not close out other programs...
I also have about 4-5 megs of free storage space on the phone.
any ideas on this one?
It seems as time goes on, I can't seem to run any more than 1 program simultaneously...
Reduce the amount of file space your browser have allotted for cache files and history.
My browser cache for both Opera and PIE are both pointed at the storage card which has about 500megs free. This problem occurs even if I am running any programs though, not just browsers...
It's either the memory shortage (which some of those programs can actually take much more than 4 or 5 mb to run.) Or you have it set to close on tap, within the task manager/x-button, instead of close on hold.
I use batterystatus, and it is set to tap and hold X to close, but I never use the X, I simply go to the start menu and open another program, then when I try to switch back to the other program, it is closed already.
How do I check if it is a memory problem?
For instance, if I run HTC audio manager, then get a message, I click reply, then after about 3 seconds into my reply HTC audio manager closes.
is there any way I can "force" the programs to stay open? Even if I were to launch a new program and it does not have enough memory, it woudl just not open rather than closing an existing open program...
To me, it sounds like you are running out of RAM, and programs that were running in the background are automatically closed. I'm not affiliated with Windows Mobile and hence not an expert, but I believe this (closing previously open programs rather than the new one) is the expected behavior in WM. Imagine getting a phone call and the phone app not opening since there's not enough memory because the OS didn't automatically close background programs...
I don't know of a way of changing the memory management behavior, but maybe someone else here does? I'd argue that you wouldn't want to anyway.
I'd suggest that you DO use the X button to close programs, otherwise I guarantee you will run out of memory and things will close automatically anyway. The difference is you won't have any say in what gets closed at that point. I added programs that I don't want to close with the X button (like Live Messenger) to the exclusive programs list in the Task Manager.
Second, I'd suggest you take any steps you can to increase your original pool of memory.
Darren, I understand your point, but it seems as if I have plenty of memory, and I can only run 1 program at a time. I don't mind so much the behaviour, it is just at the point of being ridiculous when I can only run 1 program at a time.
So you think that starting with 13-14 megs of free memory is not enough? How would I go about increasing this original pool of memory?
Also, even it I use the X button to close programs, that does not solve my problem anyways, whichever program is not in the foreground seems to close by itself anyway...
phony, I understand your frustration. I have had low memory problems myself, and I know that programs running in the background will close when that happens. That's why when I read your post it sounded like a memory issue to me.
I ended up tweaking a few things to try to get more free memory, like not running certain processes or services automatically at startup. I'm not sure if it is relevant to the ROM you are running, but see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=312312.
This is definitely a memory problem. When the free program memory is lower than about 1MB (don't remember the exact number), the WIndows Mobile will send a WM_HIBERNATE to all the running program to release all the possible resources. If the memory goes lower, it will broadcast another message called WM_CLOSE to close all the background apps to release more memory. The only reason for apps that close on themselve is either low on mem or there are some apps in the background (maybe a virus) sending WM_CLOSE every now and then. To be honest, to have less than 15 megs of ram to start with is NEVER enough. Try to change the pool size if you don't like any of the great roms here. Hope this help.
hey first thing i want to say is this phone is amazing and it blows away everything and anything i have had in the past (ok not my 360 though).
but in the last 2 weeks ive noticed whenever i perform a soft reset, mainly because of some program freezing, it takes an enormous time for the phone to recover functionality. i mean, that when i turn the phone on, i see the pink circle appear and then the t-mobile logo, after that the Launching HTC Sense shows and then it takes about 2 mins to completely show the home screen, i.e. clock tabs calender, notification bar and all.
thats all fine, but then when i try to scroll through the home screen tabs at the bottom it jitters and is extremely unresponsive moving after like 30 secs to 3 tabs. its the same with the start button, when i try to scroll down the apps its really slow and does the same jitters and when i select something it just does that 4 colour dots loading thing.
it happens every single time after a soft reset, however if i turn the phone on and leave it aside for around 15 mins then when i try to scroll through tabs or apps it works a treat, like nothing was wrong with it.
please can someone help me, i dont know if its some start up programs causing it or some registry tweak that needs to be applied to correct it. but any help is greatly appreciated and thank you
p.s. i have quite a few apps installed :s i installed resco explorer and through 1 of the apps 'system info', im going to post some of the numbers maybe it might shed some light.
program memory 336.9 MB - used 193.86 Mb (58%)
storage memory 214.7 MB - used 204.99 MB (95%)
storage card 1.8 GB - used 1.78 GB (97%)
here is a list of the things under \Windows\StartUp
BTTrayCE
DelWMPTempFolder
HTCStartUp
PKG
poutlook
RunGNAgent
XMmobiresetter
I suspect its down to having a shiny new toy and access to this "sweetshop" of a forum that's at the heart of the issue here. I too had similar problems earlier today when my storage memory dipped even lower than your's that resulted in pop up messages from windows warning me about critically low ammounts of storage and telling me to remove some installed or redundant files to improve performance..cue bye bye to co-pilot as I dont use it and things have improved considerably.Amongst the stuff I've installed are Tomtom navigator 7, Garmin mobile XT,Igo8.3.4,ACR hd,Totall commander,Resco file explorer, myplayer,Zoomer, skyfire,BsB Tweaks and a slack handfull of games...(all of them installed to the SD card which is now almost at capacity...roll on getting my 16gb card )
These two programs (RunGNAgent, XMmobiresetter) are not in my startup folder, so try to delete them (before deleting backup them), and see if that helps.
first of all thanks to terrytpot and Mikulec.
ill try to uninstall some apps and try an reduce the memory as much as i can and see if i notice an improvement. hopefully that'll work and ill also do the backup of the 2 files and delete them from the startup.
thanks again
P.S. if anyone has anymore ideas that would greatly appreciated. thank you
rungna.exe what is it, explained
well I did some experiments with this rungnagent.exe. witch apeared to be in my startup folder.
I installed sbp-safemode (just in case i would crash the phone (ps im having a samsung i-780).
then i moved the rungna.exe to my storragecard (away from any bootup options)
I shutted my phone down holding the on/off button and restarted it.
instead of waiting 2 minutes for the phone to startup I could scroll trough start, my homescreen and apps (really fast) within 20 seconds, wich was the startup-time when i got the phone .
I made sure that all my apps were still working and guess what they did not have any complications to any backgrounded or foregrounded apps.
I was starting to get very curious about what this app would be.
I loaded the program to my windows 7 desktop-pc and scanned it using filealyzer from savernetworking (the makers of spybot search and destroy).
the file seems to be a .net executable microsoft visual c# v.7.0 . net program with the following funtions in the hex-strings (the commands given to a program on how to funtion) and the behaviour is (in my case):
check the installed files from the program google navigator.
there's also in te hextext that it has to open google navigator trough a link in the windows folder named Google "Navigator.ink"
so when you deïnstall google navigator (in my case I did that because the software was crap). it can't load and run it's intergration with the system at startup and may hook your mobile phone down at that very same startup. the makers of the software just made a mistake in their deïnstall executable because it doesn't remove this specific file. (google navigator is not google maps google navigator is a 3d navigation program using google maps you can find their software on pdafun.net)
so when you deïnstalled the program just put the file somewhere on the phone (just in case) or at least remove it from your startup folder.
So this would mean: Problem solved thread closed XD
ps
my phone stoped freezing when i deleted this startup entry so for some reason it also hooked up the system when you opend more than 5 regular apps. having you to reset the phone all the time. those problems are gone now .
I would suggest that you install spb pocket plus buy it (or bittorent it XD). the software has many handy features with one in specific being very handy. the boot in safemode option.
when your phone crashes 2 times (so you stik your stilus in the resethole 2 times) it comes up with a special bootscreen giving you 2 options boot regular or boot in safe mode.
boot in safe mode means you startup your phone without loading any registry entries or boot commands. you just get a blank screen (no deskapps, tochflow, home shells, etc). with the regular startbutton and all programs and settings. meaning you can fix the phone when it crashed.
fixing means not having to do rom-resets (while worrying about contact backups, messages and all those apps you installed and have to reïnstall from scratch when hardresetting).
good luck with ya pocket personal computer XD.

ps: thread still closed XD
