O2 XDA Orbit 2 (HTC Cruise) - Touch Cruise ROM Development

Hi at All,
at first, sorry for my bad english...
I have a question about connecting some devices of flight assistence to my XDA...
Is it possible to connect to the extUSB an external SAT-Signal (seriell from GPS mouse on FLARM). Otherwise can I split the signal to the external GPS-connector? FLARM sends out also signal from other users to lokate theme at sky... This signal came also over the TX RX lines. Has the XDA an internal converter that allow's receiving seriel com-signal's???
I hope my question is clear to understand, else ask me and I try to make it more clear...
regards
Sven

why don't u send HTC tech support an email and ask for the tech info u need? unless u're voiding your warranty in the process, I'm sure they'll be able to clarify your query..

ok, then I will ask HTC Support for helping me first...
Thanks

This is wired solution which comes with cable that connects directly to the back to your xda's syc/charge port (com1), therefore it has nothing to do with bluetooth.
hope this help, cheers
how much is it?
For as little as £59.99

yes, you're right, bluetooth offer you tidier surroundings with less cable going around you. However if you do need to charge them in the car, you got problem. Because you can only charge one device at a time since you have only one cigarette power port in your car (unless you use cigarette hub which then gives you two or more cigarette socket)
What if you travelling a lot i.e. 2 or more hours of navigational need. Neither of your unit can keep you on for more the 2 hours, in fact far more less.
Now, with this Personal GPS Kit, you charge your PDA units as well as getting the data from the com1 port as it works same as that you put it on it’s cradle (syc/charge) at the same time.

hi, first thread: what kind of couple-capacitive needed?

hi,
this is my first thread here, sorry for my bad english - but i'll try my best.
i want to connect my xda2 with the 22 pin-connector for mp3 in my car.
in your conectors-page is a note:
Audio needs to be capacitively coupled in, any DC bias seems to inhibit audio
i want to ask, what c is needed here? (how many farrad, what kind of C)?
please can you give me some tipps?
is there anyone who has built such a connection? is this a good way to connect the xda2 through the car-radio, or is it better to connect via audio-jack?
my opinion: i found it very uncomfortable to connect first the audio-connector (specially in the dark), and i would be very happy if it works through the 22-pin connector.
please please...gimme a tipp.
or did anyone connect the xda2 and car-stereo without couple-c?
c'mon please, a little answer and i'll be happy.
anyone must have finished a 22pol-connector by himself, or am i wrong?
ty
frustrated...(bad first experience)...
you may be asking too much of a technical question for the cuurent people who watch this board.. i get the impression that the xda-developers site started out with a lot of smart people reverse engineering and dismantling the devices, but its now become more of a software tech support site than a hardcore HTC guru site..
Hi there sorry to hear you have had a bad experience.
as stated xda-dev no longer is as good as it used to be.
i had a quick look at the diagram and from what i can see you should not need capacitors at all.
from what i can see if you connect up pins 3 and 4 to the necessary inputs on your stereo the sound is fine.
a problem i can see however is that to get output on these pins you need to attach pin 19 to ground with a 10k resistor...but this will also redirect the microphone so you wont be able to use it as a phone whilst you have it plugged in unless you also build in a microphone (mind you this should be pretty easy if you wish to do it).
hope that helps
Tim

O2 Exec/Universal: I want to take it apart, any Guidlines ??

Has any one taken a universal apart, or could help me with some guidelines.
Read the Wiki or do some searching..

Please post the link of the service manual!!!
Please scan it in if you don't have it in electronic form.
When I say "we", I'm referring to the users of this forum...
It's available for download from the FTP server..
And you would know this if you bothered using 20sek on SEARCHING!
A search for UNIVERSAL SERVICE MANUAL gives all the info you need!
quiblet:
You are new to this site; please use the search function before asking. :!:
I find it highly unlikely that your problems are unique and never asked before.
Leek:
I'm at work, so I don't have FTP access.
It should be in the upload folder if I remember corectly..
Are you saying I'm not a "user"?
I spent hours searching. I browsed the FTP server.
The Wizard manual is there (Prodigy dah dah dah).
In fact, I helped people find it, by linking to it (see my posts). We're not all clueless, but the site needs improvement as far as linking information. Just a week ago, the Wiki was entirely broken.
I don't see a Universal manual. I browsed around 6 days ago. I haven't seen any recent anouncements of a new one.
The Wiki has no link on the Universal page to any service manual. Lots of technical information and pictures, but no PDF service manual -- nothing like the Wizard's.
I'm a computer scientist and have been programming assembly code since 1985, so it's not like I can't navigate.
leek:
It was there when I downloaded a few weeks ago..
If it has been removed, I shall extend my sincere appologies to you.
I shall allso see if I have a copy on my harddrive when I get home..
Well, it looks like I don't have to appologize at all!
It took me less than a minute when I found a computer with FTP acces..
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Un...C_CONFIDENTIAL_-_UNIVERSAL_SERVICE_MANUAL.pdf
Now, I haven't been programming since 1985, cuz I was born in 1985.
But root\Universal\Manuals etc doesn't seem to be the worst place to look for a manual, is it?
Anyway; I'm glad you took the time to write a constructive reply to my post..
Most people don't bother..
Strange... I did not see that last week when I searched. If it was there, I don't know how I missed it.
I will fix the Wiki (assuming it works again) to point to it.
You have redeemed yourself. And so shall I.

Thanks - I have taken the Universal completely apart.

I have a headset fault that I have tried to fix by inserting the headset several times. And looks like I need a Motherboard. Does anyone know where I can get one????
Try this. You will have to send it to them I think.

eh? surely all you need is a 3.5mm 4 point headphone jack? the usual fault is the detection microswitch 'sticks' in place and closes the circuit so the phone always thinks there is a headset attached. What makes you thnk you need a board? And why isn't your unit under warranty being less than a year old? :?: ( exec brand universals have 2 years)
Richard
p.s if you *really* need a board drop me a pm.
Thanks for the info !
I have the 4 point jack that came with the unit, as for the microswitch is there any way to reset it ?? manually.
I bought my unit from Ebay shortly after the unit developed this fault and the O2 warranty states that the original purchaser only can use the warranty, HTC Europe on reading the website will repair it but for a charge.
So I'm painfully living with the fault currently.

Does the microswitch work? Have you put a metre accross the contacts and checked it? Usually they just stick rather than fail, but they are available as a spare if you look hard enough. ( Farnell's / CPC etc )
HTCeurope will not ( from experience ) repair XDA branded units. As for the warranty not being transferrable according to their terms, threaten to sue as it's against your 'hooman writes' or summat- works for me  ( but never tried with o2 )
Richard
Where is the microswitch ????
Where can I measure on the actual headset jack??
Thanks

It's *inside* the socket, when you insert the headphone jack plug, it depresses to detect insertion. You measure across the contacts.

Richard
I see 4 contacts on the top of the Jack plug, I have measured for open & closed circuit but have come to no conclusion - to fix this If I unsolder the heaset Jack and then turn the unit on again will this cancel the microswitch just to prove the fault?? Then I will buy another jack??
Your thoughts
Thanks

To buy or not buy TyTN II?

Hi this is my first post, so hope it has not been asked to many times before I'm heavely considering buying this mobile, but it's VERY expensive so have a couple of questions I'm hoping I can use it for:
1. Is it possible to stream music from a NAS server and afterwards connect TYTN II to my receiver digitally or by two phono?
2. Have read it has internally FM, but not activated. Is that correct, and if it gets activated, will there be possibility for TMC?
3. Is the internal GPS antenna strong enough, so I can use it in a car.
4. Is there any good tools I can use on it from this forum if I buy if?
Thanks.
welcome: I would say yes to 1,2,3...for 4 and more detail you should visit the Kaiser threads.
here's a prior thread with some info (there are many others - do a search on tytn II):

Hi thanks for the answer. If I search on NAS it won't accept it. Is it possible for you to provide more links, because if I can stream music from my NAS to the PPC and output the sound on my receiver, I will definitely buy it
I'd say don't buy the HTC TyTN just on the baisis that a new product is already out.. Buy the new one instead from HTC...

The sites built in search does not accept words of less than 4 letters. Use the "Search XDA-Dev Using Google" sticky post - near the top of the posts listings - but here's a shortcut to it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298893
By the way, I'm not so convinced about enabling FM radio on TyTn II. The fact that a chip is capable of something does not mean it can be practically enabled. Even if you can enable it there is still a potential issue of tuning and connecting an aerial or even using an earphone lead as an antenna. The A-GPS enabled chip on the Tytn I is an example of sometimes near impossible to solve practical difficulties.
