Release Notes
Opera 9.5 - Build 781 - Release Notes
-------------------------------------
This build has been taken from a HTC Diamond ROM.
As with the build 405 release, we have made some adjustments:
- Able to uninstall
- WM5 version
- QVGA version
Note on this build: works great; scrolling seems smoother; always installs to \Windows\Opera9.
Note on the WM5 version: we performed the same trick as for the 405 build, but this build has NOT been tested on an actual WM5 device.
Note on the QVGA version: the skin used in the 405 PROPER build (thanks to whoever made that skin) could not be used, as there are a bunch of new icons in this build. We had to create a new QVGA skin, and though it mostly works fine, it could still be improved upon. We also adjusted the scrolling/zoom settings as was done in the 405 PROPER, as that works a lot better than the default settings from the VGA version.
- Have fun!
I thought I'd copy and paste the release notes here, instead of people searching. Hope this helps. It'll be good to post the opera's latest version here as well.
Is it possible to install it on memory card??

Yes, I am installing it as I speak to my card. I just tried 9.5 out for the first time last night, an older build, but I was quite impressed.

Well, you can choose to install to card, but for me it didn't work, all necessary files go to \windows\opera9 as mentioned in the release notes. Can anybody "fix" this? Would be really great!

Possibly. It depends on Opera internals... does it always look for files in \Windows ? May be possible, but impossible to say unless somebody tries to modify it and it works (or not).
I need device space because on my Touch I haven't so much....
Can this Opera build play .flv videos like youtube's ones?
Somebody please mirror here...

You r right...I've gone back to my older version (Build 405) because it is not a cab but just Files in a zip-file so I can put almost everything to my SD-Card...but I think some things where modified to make it work like this. When I have time I will look into the cab and try to make a copy-only version by using the older release...
1. Can someone mirror it here? Don't have a ppcgeeks account so can't download.
2. What is the difference between QVGA and QVGA_wm5 version? It's hard to figure that out from their release notes.
Again, thanks for the heads up!

Nice theory, I'm going to check that
so this is the long waited opera 9.5, but can someone test it and tell me if or what is better than opera mini ?

For some odd reason, I can't use it. It installs, but it won't load and stays stuck. I have to reboot it. But I can attest to the fact that it uninstalls. I have opera mini, but can't test it to know whether or not it's better than opera mini, (Netfront and Opera Mini are my favorite browsers.)
I just installed it and there is a big difference between this and the old build: Even on the logo during the startup it forced all the background applications to close. This means, is takes much more RAM then the old build.
I hope, this stays still usable on my device.
edit: Maybe it was the default homepage or the first startup, but now it seems to be more memoryfriendly.
Bookmarks (opera6.adr) from application data\opera9 copied over to windows\opera9 works well.
And it seems, that the size of the bookmarks is still VGA. Looks much bigger, than in the last build

As I seen through lots of research most people are having problems with the hardware keyboard functioning in Opera. Can someone with development experience create a fix for this? I can elaborate on the issue as I've researched it but I think most people are familiar with this issue.
This would be amazing if it could be done. It's the issue that's keeping me from using 9.5.
I go through the same thing. But instead of the touch keyboard, i use the regular keyboard.
wich is the last version of opera 9.5 wicht is comnpatible to the htc wizard hardware keyboard?
The stock installation on my Xperia might work, its optimized for hardware keyboards and works w...err, lets say better than the other builds floating around It's for VGA devices, you'd have to find a skin for QVGA, there's some floating around the forums here or you just back up your old one (\Windows\Opera9\skin\standard_skin.zip) and copy it back after the installation.
Edit: Uploaded here [Link]. Its Build 2141 direcly pulled from an XPERIA X1. This version puts its files (settings, config files, cache, skin, ...) in \Application Data\Opera9 instead of \Windows\Opera9 as HTC builds do.
Please report back if it worked for you so that other know, if they can try.

Can you please just pull out the Opera9.exe and OperaL.exe ( I think thats what they are ), so that we may just do an update to keep our qvga skins, and bypass the install problem? That might just do the trick..
Thanks much!

good idea....this schuld be working
So i guess its agreed that there is no fix out there. Time to roll up our sleeves and come up with something. This problem is annoying a lot of people and keeping many from using the software at all.

Use Opera Mobile 1184! It works perfectly with the keyboard, able to uninstall (since it's on the SD card) and if the files are posted here that I've requested and if it works, viola! Fast Opera + Perfect Keyboard.
I still wonder why I have heard no news of Touch Pro's Opera working with Tilt's keyboard. Any thoughts?

Everyone else that I spoke to said that build was slower. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?
Have you guys with the keyboard problem tried the 1957 build? I have it on my Mogul and don't have any problem with either the on screen or the device keyboard.
Here is the link for 1957 with SD installation that is uninstallable...(This version also puts its files; settings, config files, cache, skin, ... in \Application Data\Opera9 instead of \Windows\Opera9 as HTC builds do).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425268
It is also faster than the 23xx versions except for the latest build 2745

Build 1957 works fine on my x7510 (no keyboard problem neither autorotation problem). Now I'm trying Opera build 2520 extracted from the latest oficial Omnia ROM. There is no problem with the keyboard and seems faster than build 1957.

Where do you get 2520? Do you have a cab or the upgrade? Also, are the files installed in \Windows\ or \Application folder?
sorry guys for not keeping up with the thread, I was quite busy lately. Unfortunately I'm on the go right now and cant upload the requested 2141 files. Ill do that once I get home, hang on a little longer...
Question which I have, is which build the Touch Pro features and if Flash will run in that version respectively in the 19xx builds mentioned abovee... While flash is not a must I'd like to have it none the less.

I extracted it directly from the Omnia ROM. So there is no cab (although I can try to create a cab with this build).
The files are instaled on \Application Data\Opera9, just like build 1957 (also from a omnia ROM). In fact, the files on the new build are almost equal to the ones on build 1957.

That would be awesome if you could make a cab of 2520 for SD install. Also, does it have the zoom like 1957 where you slide your finger on the right side of the screen? Or is it like the 23xx versions where you tap on the up arrow, then the zoom icon, then zoom slider? I really like the 1957 zoom, it is much easier and intuitive to use.
Thanks!

Zoom is like in build 1957. For those that want a quick upgrade from version 1957 extract this files to \windows folder.

still not getting my opera to lunch.I downloaded the original opera files from here.placed them in the opera9 folder located in device/window etc.it would lunch from there but not the browser tab in touch flow.its driving me nuts!!! and I hate using internet explorer!lol ;o
suggestions?
cheers.
if operaL launches but tf3d doesn't, the problem is tf3d, not opera. install manila patcher (find it searching for SSMaPa). Init it: you don't need to patch anything, but you can see if something else has been connected with the globe in internet tab. If so, you can always re-enable opera via SSMaPa.(btw: i too did install last month the new build and then went back to the original, but had no such problems)
Can anyone tell me what version of Opera is this?
Thanks,

Nice! Works very nicely on my omnia. No probs whatsoever. Great job!
Oh yeah, fast it is. I don't know why Opera doesn't add tabs or atleast an OPTION of tabs to Opera Mini. I would throw Opera Mobile out of the door it that happens. With opera mobile, if I'm online(on Palringo) and listening to music(PP), browsing is a mess, but with mini, its no-lag smoothness.
Thanks,

Yup
There´s a thread in Diamondish forum regarding how to change font size of this JBED version, so you can get it looking good on a VGA device.
"trueg"
The following registry settings control the font sizes for apps running in JBed.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Apps\Esmertec Java\Device Info\Java Font]
"Size Large"="26"
"Size Medium"="20"
"Size Small"="16"
------------> Mine are 36, 32 and 26
It rocks..

I'm using a PPC-6800 with WM6.1
Having the same issue as Rechard. Installed the pack and it works perfectly, except the small font is a smidge too tiny and the medium is way too big. I, too, was missing the registry key mentioned. I tried adding it, but it had no effect.
Same device, PPC 6800 WM6.1.

As I explained in the first post: QVGA and main memory. Working on VGA and SD versions.
I have read somewhere that Real Exit can be configure with [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Preload\RealExit] key. Default value is 0.
Uninstallable: of course, only ROM files are uninstallables.

Flash support; Yes
In opera:config, under User Prefs there is a option called: Scroll Velocity Percentage.
I think that you can configure bookmars with [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\UseOperatorBookmarkRegistry]. Default value is 0

VGA? QVGA? SD Card? Main Memory? Real exit? Uninstallable? Surely I've missed a couple dozen.
As I explained in the first post: QVGA and main memory. Working on VGA and SD versions.
I have read somewhere that Real Exit can be configure with [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Preload\RealExit] key. Default value is 0.
Uninstallable: of course, only ROM files are uninstallables.
the defaukt value is 0... but you gotta chage it to 1 for opera too really exit

the only real improvement i can see over the previous omnia build is that text input is significantly faster.. not as fast as it could/should be.. but a lot better
the bars are still popping up for me :O
overall the loading seems faster though
good work!
appreciated

Well then I'd hate to say this but the QVGA cab does not work on my HTC Touch running stock Sprint 6.1 ROM. Says "Unable to install Opera Mobile 9.5. The device does not have a valid ROM version.". I checked the cab and it's not limiting to specific platforms and I've had this error before on another Opera cab and removing the Setup DLL from the cab fixed it. I'll try that and let you know. Thanks.
same problem on my Sprint HTC Touch for the QVGA, running NFSFAN's rom and can't install.
Removing the Setup DLL from the cab fixes it.
ooppppssss hold on i will fix that
ok it is fixed and reuploaded now
installs now, thanks. seems pretty speedy!
Hi, some question:
We can use flash in this build??
Do you gonna release Sd version for the app (for qvga version)?
Thanks

Does this also include all the other Raphael devices like the unbranded Touch Pro or an Xda Pro or is this really a Fuze-only build to be used on AT&T's network?
anybody know the changes?
sorry that i'm asking, but i was looking for a changelog everywhere, no luck.

the one labeled - fuze vga - is set up for at&t since i have a fuze
the one labeled - vga - is for any vga device
the one labeled - qvga - is any qvga device.
Ok, thats what I figured, it might be preconfigured (guess proxy settings and stuff) specificly for the Fuze and not any Raphael. Thanks for the answer, will try the build. I'm on 15202 now and it works really well on a Touch Pro, massively better than the 15529 or so, it's got zoom and renders really quickly.
Is there any consensus on whether 15202 is the most reliable/effective Opera build thus far?
I will tell you which one works better for me, this one or the 15202 once I managed to get this on my mobile. I'm currently fighting with Netbook-Touch Pro-connectivity related problems and I'm too lazy to get out of bed to try the whole thing upstairs with my Notebook...
This is the best bulid of Opera 9.5 i have used and the fastest, works fine on Htc Blackstone

Cant agree, lucian777. For me 15202 is better, mainly because
Nicer loading screen
Adaptive Zoom settings are right after install, no manual tinkering
15202 got the bottom left zoom slider
cant make out any speed differences so far
So no advantages but no real drawbacks either, so I stay with 15202 on my Touch Pro.
Edit: Big drawback, this 15445 isnt uninstallable!
Edit 2: And no other Opera will install ontop of it, tells me installation failed... gotta love those hardresets... *grmpf*
