Hello,
I need help - have tried my best but still can't fix my uni.
The LCD-speaker is not working when case is closed with LCD faceing out.
It does work when LCD is faceing keyboard and uni is not closed (then it switches to Logo-side speaker). I have tested it by rotating screen and the speaker stops to work in very exact moment more-less in the middle of rotation.
As I have looked in manual (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349573). The LCD-coaxial cable dosnt have any axis-based connectors there, so basicaly it is just a tighten bunch of wires. So I pressume there is nothing broken as some connector or etc. So as I can think it is not wire-based trouble as the speaker is working when LCD is not rotated (is facing keyboard).
Did anyone met this problem? Maybe some software fix? Any ideas?
Regards,
woocky
I use to have exactly the opposite problem, that is, my external phone (ear) speaker didn't worked after my uni fell, the cure was easy, open the uni, clean the speaker's and the pcb's contacts, gently pull the speakers golden contacts, close the uni, and that's it!

I changed the entire housing on my Hermes as it was looking a little battered. All seemed ok but now when I slide the keyboard open the orientation stays in portrait mode. Also the keyboard light stays off. I've tested another keyboard pcb from an old broken hermes and the same problem persists.
Does ANYONE have any clue as to how I could fix this, or if it's even fixable. Not as bothered about the backlight....
Also my internal mic volume has gotten really low. I have to switch to loudspeaker unless i'm in a really quiet room!
there is a magnet in the housing that triggers a switch to swap the screen, did you swap it over?
It'll either be what beermonster65 said above, or possibly the ribbon connector which connects the screen to the mainboard isn't plugged in properly - I had that when I opened mine up to repair the sliders.

As far as I knew I switched over everything from the old housing. What does this magnet look like and where is it? If i've lost it is there a possible fix?
Thank you both for your responses so far.
Any news on the mic issue also?
hey i was just wondering if someone could help me out here, ive searched around with no luck. I replaced my wing's housing because my old one was all scratched everything works fine but i have one problem when i slide out the keyboard the screen doesnt go to landscape mode and i have no idea whats broke checked all the cables and stuff and its all pluged in, the keyboard works just wont rotate the screen thanks
You can try a hard reset, which should cure any software problems.... but if you were messing with the phone and taking it apart in order to replace the housing ... it sounds like a hardware issue.
its defenitely hardware related just not sure what it could be not sure where the thing that operates the screen and turns it when the slide is open would even be
I had the same problem. Their is a little round magnet in the front housing that you forgot to swap from the old case. Its hard to notice but its in one of the corners in the screen side housing. its under the OK button, under the circuit board. on the actual sliding plastic housing. you'll see a small round recces thats where the magnet goes.
the wing has a Prossesser Of 200Mhz, so what that means is its pretty slow.. just uninstall unused programs and End programs that your not using. Its also possible that your firmware might not Support Sliding.
Hey guys,
I know this problem has been addressed before but none really leading to any resolve so I wanted to bring it to the surface to find anyone who actually has a solution.
I recently purchased a second-hand unit and found that it was working fine for a week until suddenly I couldnt hear voice in my calls. So I opened the unit and found that the contacts were off and fixed that but when the unit was reassembled, the screen turned white. Now I tried moving the ribbon connector of the LCD screen around and got different results: a black screen, a half black/white screen, a scrambled color screen. I hear that some say you can just dab some contact cleaner onto the contacts and it may work fine. Has this worked for anyone? If so where can I pick up a bottle? Are there other alternatives?
Please let me know.
Thank you.
just hit and trial may work for you as it did in my case.(i got a scrambled color screen)
just disconnect the ribbon wire and connect it again being exactly parallel to the slot.
ensure that it is pushed inside properly.
do it till your screen is tired of being messed up with colors.
tried that for an hour and I can't seem to get it right.
Does anyone know of a solution that can increase the connectors sensitivity?
Personally, I use rubbing alcohol on the very tip of a tooth-pick, then dry it off with a soft cotton swab.
Hi, i have been experiencing a screen display problem.
When i power on the Hermes the screen does not power on.
If i then place the Hermes on a hard surface and press down hard on the long sides at the edge of the screen i can make the backlight and display appears.
However, if i release this pressure the backlight remains on but the display will become scrambled. The scrambled display is variously showing white noise, scan lines, mispositioned graphics, and ultimately fading to white.
Also, if the phone rings the audio is distorted and crackling.
I have dismantled the Hermes as far as removing the housing for the LCD from the rest of the phone. I then opened up this housing and disconnected / reconnected the LCD flex cable that is by the very edge of the housing. Then reassembled phone. No improvement was made, in fact the display issue was made more tempermental!
However the phone stil works as i am using it at the moment as a 3g modem for my laptop.
But it is extremely frustrating / near impossible to use it for any other purpose in this condition!
I am wondering as to what the problem could be and how i might solve it?
I am thinking that the problem must be due to a poor connection / oxidation / dry solder somewhere.
I would appreciate advice as to what i could do to solve this issue myself.
Next steps???
>>> Would there be any use in spraying a little WD40 into cable contacts?
>>> Someone has suggested passing a heat gun over the PCB to bond any solder that may have cracked.... Although i am sure that this is a trick that can work with old PCBs that he plays around with i am not so sure that this would be such a good idea on the flimsy multi layer boards in the Hermes.
Let me know what you think of these ideas...
white screen
Hi..not sure which version of the hermes you have, but this has been a common problem for years. My Cingular 8525 did the same thing. I finally figured out while placing the phone into a desktop charger that it was putting pressure on one lower corner of my phone and it would go white. It got to the point any pressure on it would cause the screen to fade to white. I contacted AT&T tech support about it and even though fone was out of the warranty period(over a year) they sent me a refurb ATT branded 8525 at no charge. I've had that one now close to two years with no problems.
Hi Oleschuldad, thanks for your reply. I have the Hermes100 branded as the "ORaNGE SPV M3100". Yes i have read that the white screen issue is a major blight for the hermes phone. From what i have read It seems that there are numerous causes and the problem can be difficult to trace to a specific component. The problem that my phone has is the opposite to the what you had with your phone. In that i must EXERT PRESSURE on the phone to be able to read the display. The indication is such that i am certain that it must be the result of either loose connection / bad solder / corrosion somewhere.
Think that i will get a can of electrical contact cleaner spray and clean the contacts on the flex cables.
Looks like corrosion is definitely an issue in my phone as there is some green oxide on the round watch type battery that sits on the main board next to the contacts for the main battery.
I will have to strip the phone down again at the weekend.
Hello,
Where can I find a good replacement for HD2 digitizer?
I have Windows Phone 7.8 on it (I had the same problem on Android) and sometimes when I am using it, the digitizer registers my touches wrong.
Seems to be the left side is most affected by this - Like when I press e, it presses q also, or w then q too. Also happens with s (a) and symbols. Cannot even pinch to zoom.
This has rendered my HD2 a unpractical phone. It started randomly last summer.
Should I change the digitizer in this case or is there something I can try?
Also, my input jack is messed up - when I have a headphone connected to it and the plug shakes in the slightest - The phone things I want to pause the song or play it. Also activates the voice search which is a freaking PAIN.
Can anyone please help me and tell me what I should do about these issues?
Digitizer & other parts such as assembly tape can be found on eBay.
Dosome homework on digitizers & stripdown guide to save yourself from common problems/mistakes.
Audio plug maybe harder issue to rectify, it can be replaced but requires a good solderer to do good job. You may improve things by cleaning socket & cable plug & trying to improve contact spring arms tension position in socket with a pin or similar.

But does this issue seem related to digitizer being faulty or just a cable a bit damaged? Sometimes the issue appears and sometimes it doesn't.
Ribbon on digitizer is all one piece & any permanent repair usually is only really achieved by replacement of digitizer.
I have had similar issues of screen presses activating other area on screen & dead zones on digitizer error & also the more common no touch issue, all required digitizer to fix .
Anyone know where to find a replacement jack in the USA??
