Hi guys spent last few weeks reading the forums since I got my T-mobile branded MDA plus (touch dual?) I use a couple of GPS programs on it and messenger. So far I'm managed to change the registry settings as suggested on this site. However I seem to have a really unstable 3G system, now this might be t-mobile (I'm in Glasgow Scotland) or phone problem. My old MSN client worked great so not sure if it is Live mobile that's at fault, although downloaded lastest version from here.
Now I'm considering Flashing it, it was bought from ebay to replace a stolen Vario 3 (Tytn 2) so no real contract with it. It appears to be NIKI100 from
sticker with following roms
Rom version 1.35.110.06
Radio version 1.58.16.27
Protocol version 25.61.30.03H
Can anyone tell me what else I need to find out to decide which ROM's are applicable? And which would people suggest to replace present ones with? Any help appreciated
Cheers
Ross

Can someone tell me what the Qtek V1640 is?
I have been looking on the web and can't really find any information about it in English.
I've been looking to upgrade my O2 XDA II to an HTC Universal and have found that Vodafone are able to supply the V1640 which they believe to be the same as the Qtek 9000 which I can see from trawling through loads of info is the same as the XDA Exec (or almost).
Does this mean the V1640 is the same device?
Is it the same spec or is it a cut down version?
Does someone have a comparison sheet available for all the different versions of the HTC Universal?
Hi there,
I left Vodafone recently to get an O2 Exec. Their retentions team promised me they could get me a Qtek 1640V which they repeatedly promised was their name for a Qtek 9000, ie an HTC Universal. I spoke to loads of different people and they all promised the same thing.
So, I waited (lots of mistakes over delivery) and waited and eventually I received a Qtek 16*20* V... which is an HTC Blue Angel. Furious, I called up... everyone now insistent that the 1640 is unavailable from Vodafone.
Got my Exec now and it's beautiful, just beautiful.
My advice? Avoid vodafone if you want to ever get your hands on a Universal.
Matt S.
Hi Matt
Yeah I read your post before posting this one.
I orginally was with O2 but there service was appalling so I moved across to Vodafone I've had some serious difficulties with Vodafone in the past but persistence paid off and they are now very VERY helpful... In fact much more so than O2 every were so doubt I will ever go back to O2.
I know Vodafone are preparing the full launch of the product so they are likely to be suffering supply problems just now before they do.
Before they do and before I spend my free upgrade on the VP1640 I want to make sure it is up to spec.
Do you or does anyone else have any more information that can shed light on the VP1640 please?
Anyone can help out on this?
Received the V1640. Nice looking device.
Photo's to follow shortly.
In fact received 2 One for myself and another for my partner.
I can confirm I have a V1640, took me telling me they did them before i got one, but it is definatelty a Universal!

Hi, i have been searching for a cab file to install just the blackberry connectivity... I used to have it and i am pretty sure i got it from this site.... it was a while ago.
I now have a VPA compact and i dont think it has enough space for the fully loaded custom roms (its only a 64mb baby!)
I'd really appreciate it if someone was able to point me to the right direction... i tried searching for blackberry.cab to no avail...
PS. i have read alot of discussions on here about getting it to work properly... just to let you all know, if your PIN number for your blackberry client meant for another network.... blackberry themselves will cut of the traffic to your pin number... although this may take a week or so for it to cut off. The network you are with will not know this has happened hense you will get no help from them. This is a LICENSING issue... tech support advisors will not have this within thier network's published information.
Thanks in advance for your help!
found the o2 one....
For those who read the title.... heres the o2 version link (from within the site) http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=81361
You'll find the CAB you're looking for here ...

thanks, but thats the T-mobile version... I think the german VPA has the bb software that generates a PIN number that will work on vodafone for over a week! i had the o2 one working for about 8 days on my qtek2020i. then it got cut off... I am hoping to get the "proper vodafone blackberry -webclient-" which i know exists as i had a customer in my store show me one up and running. (vodafone branded and all)
Hello!
I have a Dopod 838 Pro and live in the US.
I bet you can tell what my next question is...
How can I update the Network Wizard to include carriers here in the states? (specificaly Tmobile).
I'm having problems with a multitude of different things and would love to try using some prefab settings to see if they might help knock out a few of my issues.
Would love some help!
Thanks in advance.
aw cmon
I know it can be done, as the super rom that you can download has all sortsa different ones that were injected by whomever made it.
A little help? It's Thanksgiving?
Another request for this - I hava an Australian 838Pro and have just arrived in the US for 5 months, and the network wizard isn't so keen on my T Mobile SIM
Bump..
You know you want to help.
I was in HKG few weeks ago and bought 3 mobile phones (HTC Cruise, Sony Erickson S500i and Samsung E528) in a local electronic store, so they should be unlock and unbranded.. All three works perfectly in HKG with local prepaid and contract SIM of different company.
Now lets concentrate on the HTC Cruise after all this is the Polaris forum.
I then went to Malaysia and Thailand, cruise worked with a local SIM without any problem. Now I am back in Germany and cruise works fine with my 10 years old Vodafone prepaid card, but doesn’t work with my one month old Vodafone prepaid card, it display a message saying something like “sim card is missing ….” (sure the sim is in). I called Vodafone but they have no idea and keep sending me a new replacement sim card, I now have 2 replacements but both doesn’t work (works with my old phone though, so SIM has no problem).
I then brought the phone to office and tested with my colleague sim cards, one was contract Vodafone and the other was contract T-COM, again, both doesn’t work.
Are there anything call region lock or something like that? Why it works in Asia but not in Germany? Why the 10 years old Vodafone SIM card is okay but all new SIM not? Actually except the Samsung, SE S500i has exactly the same problem.
I really don’t know what to do now, can someone in here please help me out?
Thanks!

Hello Roman,
Thanks for taking time to read through my problem and ur advise.
The ROM on my cruise are still the original, this is my very first pda phone and therefore am a bit nervous to perform the upgrade, but do u think flashing the rom or radio version would help? I bought this phone because of the gps but sadly, this phone comes with MapKings and it only have Asian’s map, no German map , so if it doesn’t work with the new sim card then it is really a piece of expansive junk for me.
Thanks once again for ur help.

This my 2c worth:
1) I see that all the SIM cards you have tried in Germany are "contract" or pre-paid. Were the "local" SIM's you used in Asia also contract or pre-paid, or open ? My thought is that it is the telco carriers that are applying a lock, not the PDA. Perhaps try an "open" SIM ... if this is too expensive in Germany, then I suppose you need to approach the telcos with some persistence. This problem of telcos deciding which device and software you may use is becoming a world-wide big nuisance. It's like buying a car and then having the oil companies tell you what vehicle brand and accessories you may have !
2) MapKing is an Asian program and of course only maps Asian areas. Perhaps you need to decide on a European sat-nav program
Thanks ianl8888,
What is “open SIM”? The “contract sim” that I used in Asia and tried in Germany are from my friends who have a contract with a mobile phone operator; the prepaid card that I used in Asia was those I bought at local 7-11 stores, they all works fine.
What is telco? Telephone company? I call my prepaid card company (Vodafone) several times, all operators that I spoken to said that they have never heard this before, they said if sim lock then I would have another error message, every time I called they ended up sending me a replacement which is still not working.
Yeah, I know that Mapking is an Asian company but didn’t realize that they don’t have European map. By the way, I have a tomtom on my PDA, do u think that version works on Cruise as well?
Thanks once again!
Hello again,
Here in Europe I tried a lot of Navigation SW,
In my point of view I prefere the IGo 2006/ 8 when it is comming out
(Very easy to use and quiet good new maps)
The second I have is the new Navigon 6
(it uses a lot of instant memory, but with the cruise your are save on this behavor)
I think you should go for an upgrade. The rom you have is not the newest one and has a few old drivers.
1st upgrade Oli's Hard SPL (Very important and you must check after thu upgrade at the Colored splash screen to have it on the right version)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351964
2nd then Upgrade OS to (for example bepe it is very stable)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369310
3rd upgrade Radio Rom to the latest version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1967089
Okay, I think I will give it a try this weekend, but once again, do u think that the os is the source of my problem? My phone is actually very slow and for a person like me, who only used normal mobile phone in the past, the speed of making a normal phone call on this device is difficult to get use to, and the device is somehow very unstable, I have to perform a soft reset almost every second day, after a while the device doesn’t response, e.g. few hours ago, after making a phone call, I pressed the on/off button briefly to put it to sleep, but then it never wake up again . I want to do hard reset but not before I got all data backup.
Thanks once again to all your help and good night!
Hello,
You are right ... original roms are not very stable ...
I run bepe's rom and its very stable ... I reset my device only for upgrades for the moment.... Bepe's rom is stable like a rock and with the taskmanager you can easy manage it.
For databackup take the pimbackup.... it's a very good tool and free!

Have a good evening

Your ROM seems to have a different version from those "Shipped ROMS" posted here so make sure to back it up first before doing any "Flashing".
thanks! I do realize that I have a different version ROM (lower version, I think) than most people in here have and I wonder is it because of Asian version?
Backup the original ROM? That would be great, but how?
I called the sales woman in HKG and she mentioned that some sim card might have different voltage and that might caused the problem that I have. Then I searched this forum and did find some posts mentioning this, but I still haven’t found a solution yet. Any idea?
I opened a support ticket with Vodafone UK about the annoying email sending and HSDPA problems that my HTC TyTN II has demonstrated since I 'upgraded' it to WM 6.1. Here's the response:
---<starts>---
Thanks for your e-mail about your TyTn 11/V1615 and problems since updating your firmware from 6.0 to 6.1.
I've been speaking with our technical experts today for some more info for you. I'm told that they are aware of various issues with the 6.1 windows software for this phone and unfortunately until a newer software version is available you will have these issues with the 6.1 version. It's unlikely they'd spend more money redeveloping the 6.1 software problems as they may already be looking towards developing the next version.
The only option they can give is to delete the newer version and find the old version to download again instead. We understand this isn't ideal but at the moment its' the only solution to these issues.
If there's anything else I can do for you, let me know, I'll be glad to do all that I can to help.
---<ends>---
That's a lot of help - not. They might at least have provided a page with a link to go back to 6.0...
Well you ...
You should trying to get support from Vodafone in The Netherlands , where I am an ex-pat. Got this damn thing last Tuesday (7 working days ago) and because I got my deal through the web shop, the one in my area won't help.
My problem is, when I took to the main shop in Rotterdam to get it changed to English version...great took the techie 5 mins to flash it . Yeah!!!
When I get back home, 1 hours drive but 2 at peak traffic time (which is all the F#####G time here, I fire it up go to GPRS authentification...nothing on screen, silch, nada, nothing
So sorry to piggy back your thread M8, but any help for this on this forum?
