How I Fixed .CAB Not Installing - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

A year or so ago I got a BA then I upped it to wm5
ever since then I couldn't install .cab files
Well after that I put the BA on the shelf
Switched Carriers recently so I dusted of the BA to give it a try on t-mo
Upped it to Xplodes WM6.11
Still no installing cabs
I was pretty pissed at the time
but today I formated device memory and cleared registry hive
and no problems what so ever now
Thanks xplode and al of the BA dev team.

Another JAMin ROM (6 Apr 2006)

Anyone tried this ROM yet? Does it have A2DP? I'm in office now, will try it myself tonight
ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/JAMin_WWE_213923_2139123_022021_ship.zip
Thanks for heads up Linux!! It just finished downloading but I'm going to wait to see somebody else flash theirs first. I cross flashed my Dopod 818Pro with the previous AKU2 ROM update from Imate and I could'nt be happier with my device now so I don't want to muck it up until I know for sure!!
Please post tonight if you get a chance!!!!
Cheers,
voyager
I did not see the new ROM on the www.clubimate.com site. What is it supposed to offer? Having just gone though the pain of the last ROM upgrade, I would like to know what the new one offers before flashing.
It is there on clubimate.
and it says:
"Latest Release details:
The main improvements from the original Operating System, are:
Microsoft™ Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP):
Addition of the MSFP allowing Direct Push email, remote device wiping, GPRS data compression, security policy enforcement and integrated Global Address List Lookup for customers using a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 with Service Pack 2. Note that Push email is only supported over GPRS.
Communication Manager
Communications Manager has been updated to allow current data services to be stopped, Direct Push email to be started/stopped using a single button press, and flight mode to be switched on/off."
That's the old one. This thread is about the new ROM that was posted today (or yesterday depending on your timezone):
04/06/2006 12:55PM 57,078,129 JAMin_WWE_213923_2139123_022021_ship.zip
Sorry, my mistake. I thought that the info was for the latest one.
Hey folks,
According to a post over on HoFo this update seems to just fix a few things from the earlier AKU2 ROM upgrade. They did not go into a lot of detail but one the fixes is improved battery management on the SD card. This would make sense to me. I have been running the first AKU2 ROM for the JAMin on my Dopod 818Pro for a week now.....one word, AWESOME dependabilty. The ONLY thing I noticed is that my battery power seemed to slide a bit faster with that ROM update. I think I'll wait though until some can confirm all the changes in this newest ROM offering.
Cheers!!

It seem to me they just change the radio ROM
No A2DP
I've just installed the ROM, unfortunately there's no A2DP. The battery indicator is also still located on top.
I bought this machine because A2DP was promised as a ROM upgrade. I even sold my O2 Atom and got this phone instead because I've read about the better sound and camera quality, despite the slower processor.
I really think HTC owes many of us out there an explanation for the lack of A2DP :x
Hi guys could anyone upload the file to the ftp of this site please
This rom fixes the slow SIP!! It also allows folder within the inbox to sync via exchange (I can't remember if the previous rom allowed for this or not?)
Iv'e been running this ROM for the last 24 hours and (crossing fingers) no soft reset or hang-up so far. Guess they found some bugs in the not so baked version released two weeks ago...
It's also a tad faster than the previous ROM.
Is it possible to restore all the data from a back up software like spb back up or sprite back up? Because for the first rom update when I try to restore from spb back up the JAMin crashed
im runing this on dopod 818 pro
i installed spb plus, and then reset, when it goes to windows, it just hang there. then i press reset again, it becomes ok...
it's weird, sometimes windows hang after reset.

Yes I am able to do a full restore from spb backup with the backup I've made on the previous imate rom. I think this is due to the fact that the OS rom version is the same as the previous rom, only the ext and radio version is newer
Very good news, I will update soon
ext rom
any idea what this is on the ext rom?
Default_MP_CVSDcpl_20060220
Just upgraded to the new ROM. Much, much snappier. Worth upgrading!
how can i pass the vender id problem??? it´s for an s200.
thanks
Is it unlocked?
I can read and write on \extended_rom with this new rom! Is this normal?
How can i unhide and mount the space? permantley?
After reboot the files are back again

Urgent Problem, Blue Angel Freezes

I upgraded my Blueangel to windows mobile 6 a couple of days ago, yesterday i was reset it. when it powered on i have the windows mobile 6 screen and nothings happens thereafter, it is not connection to activesync and i m not able to ROM Upgrade.
Please help me ASAP
read the wiki carefully
try a hard reset after and do the no+yes+yes ritual in the hard reset.. it should worked...
regards
adri
baybe it is because third party software you installed, it happened to me with the touchflo which replaced the touch.dll with another one for another device, also with HTC Plus today plugin
I had it after installing VBAR... you have to reset it and press the record and camera button, then clear the registry HIVE and press the mail button... it will be hard resetted but in wm6 you don't lose any data, just some settings and cabs...
Yeah, I got this problem too a few days ago.. annoying...
When I tried to back up my data using Sunnysoft backup manager, BA had to restart, and then it stuck in the WM6 page... ended up clearing the whole thing again using the no yes yes option...BA was able to start up on safe mode though... weird
I only had this problem once though....
Hmmm, interesting few people have this problems with different circumstances, however leading to the same problem...
is it really WM6 issue or is it 3rd party apps issue?

good question!
it just happened to me as well.... i had an almost fresh install of WM2006 (just downgraded, merged Extrom and upgraded again).
I installed some few cabs and eventhough it worked fine for a day, it then started to freeze while booting again and again....
i never had the problem before merging the rom though...
it happened to me also, after doing a soft reset using pbar. it ends up in the green screen with the microsoft logo without going any further. i've tried several soft resets after but it always ends up in that mode.
had to perform a hard reset and install my favorite apps again.
well maybe there are some incompatiblityes with those programs you mentioned, i have not use them my BA has the default apps (the posted cabs) Sprite Backup 6, Htc Home 1.5, Adobe Flash Lite and i have no problems at all

have you installed all cabs you posted (cabs & cabs2)?
in what order?
whats Sprite Backup?
and which one is the HTC Home 1.5? (i only see HTC Home6?!?)
sorry, but i am really getting more and more confused...
regards,krz
Sprite backup is the best backup softweare IMO, yes all cabs (cabs and cabs2) Home6 is HTC Home 1.5
thank you very much for your answer, xplode!
there are three HTC HOME6 cabs out there:
1) Helmi HomePlug_Comp.cab: found in Helmi_C's WM2006 archive FLASH.zip
2) Helmi_HtcHome6_WM5_comp_sdkcert.cab: found in Helmi_C's WM2006 archive AddOn.rar
3) HOME6: an archive with two folders (WM5 + WM6) and HTCHome.cab
are there any differences?
is one better than the others?
i never found an answer to these questions...

krz

Use Home6 if you want to be able to modify the HTC Home tabs from 6 (default) to less than 6..... this is the only one working....
With Helmi_HTCHome6.. it also works, but cannot modify the tabs......
never tried the other one....
OK OK I had this problem and it solved it without losing data. First i tried to reset the device , like 30 times with no success. Even with a hard reset it didnt work. So you just Put ur device in the booloader mode and then soft reset it and voila. i dont know if it's really the correct solution but it worked for me for 3 times when i had that dumb WM6 screen. It's because of Battery status software ( 100% sure )
BA Freezing

Can anyone tell us which third parties programs that cause the freezing or which are compatible whit WM6. To used or avoid them.
Hi,
same problem here. I just installed the cabs from helmi (Thanks again!), the HTC Home (Helmi_HtcHome6_WM5_comp_sdkcert.cab), Acrobat reader and powerpoint (out of this cabs in the first message in the central BA6 Thread) and no additional software. I've re-installed it two times, but that doesn't help .
@ Xeon: Maybe a good work-around, I will give him a try,
UPDATE: @ XEON: Doesn't work for me
regards
Andreas
OK im again facing the same problem it seems my solution didnt work. As far as it seems to, i had to soft/hard reset more than 20 times to solve it. i dont get it. when i reset it the problem is still bla bla bla.. but when u leave it stuck for 10 mins and then reset it , it will work. the point is that after all , u dont need to format/clear registry. All u need is to keep trying. WEIRD [email protected]#[email protected]$#$
I keep having the problem after installing a new cab with a soft reset. The only way to get out of the WM6 screen is to go into bootloader and a soft reset. Just like Xeon said. However, I don't think it is the battery issue because if I just do a normal soft reset, it starts up fine. The problem arrives only when a soft reset is required to finish an installation from cab.

correct order of cabs?

hi everyone!
as there are many various cabs flying around here (eg. cab & cab2 from xplode, Addon cabs on Helmi_C's WM06 rom, various HTC plugins, etc.), i wonder if there is a correct or some kind of "best" order to install them!
how does everyone's install sequenz look like?
are there any known problems, which result from installing in a wrong order?
or is it totally nonrelevant...?
regards,
krz
AFAIK the only cabs to be installed in a order are:
1. ArcsoftMMS4.2.8.1.cab
2. MMS_enable.cab
from Xplode cabs2

QFE
You are right about that
thanks for your answers!!
i knew about the MMS cabs...
i just wondered, because the first time I upgraded to WM2006, everything worked totally fine. I hab no problems no matter what, wifi worked like it should, bluetooth as well, no turning on here and turning on there again (HTC Home Prob), ...
now, after i have downgraded to WM2003, merged the ExtROM and upgraded to WM2006 again, i am experiencing loads of problems!!
the "turn wifi on"-bug occured, i could not turn wlan adapter on with one simple click on the icon in CommManager...
then, after a softreset, the device froze while booting (there is some other thread about that problem). so i had to perform a hardreset again...
i configured my device again and installed the various cabs again, but in the end my device turned out to be totally screwed... turning on wlan was a pain, message-windows in which u can normally choose one of the available wifi spots were text-less (just empty window, only headlines visible...)...
so, i had to hard reset my blueangel the second time today and am now sitting in front of a fresh install of WM2006, thinking about what to do.....
what cabs should i install?
which HTC Home cab is actually the "best"?
any known problems regarding PPCContacts Manager?
do you thinkl, that those problems are somehow connected to merging ExtROM?
disappointed,
krz
ps: can anyone recommend a good backup problem, which saves me from setting up all settings all over again after eacah hard reset(timezone, regional settings, device id, reg tweaks, ...) ??

kitchen problems

hello,
i downloaded the wm6 rom kitchen yesterday (helmis i think as its the only wm6 one i could find for BA) and used some other oem packages from a3xl (mainly windows live and a couple of reg tweaks) but for some reason although the rom is within the size needed (theirs alot of free sectors) it wont work right and basicly locks up on startup and once i eventually get to the today screen the wireless today plugin is jumping between 1 and 2 lines and start menu has only today and coldinit options. i cant see what ive done wrong as i tried making a rom with no extra features and that fails also. yes i hard reset after flashing also. ive gone back to a precooked rom for the moment but i wud really rather have a self made rom with the apps i use integrated to save my storage memory
any ideas ?
cheers

WM2003, No Camera

Hello,
I flashed back to Windows Mobile 2003 SE after having windows mobile 6 installed.
The only problem is the camera does not work, There is no camera option in the menu, and when I press the camera button nothing happens.
The OS I flashed with is WM2003SE 2.06.00WWE XDA2 from the buzzdev website.
Any help?
Thanks.
sounds like you dident put in a new extended rom where the cam software autoinstall from
I searched on the forums for extended rom and found this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=221732
So I put contents in my STORAGE, as per instructions, and now I am flashing, is this the correct way?
One Question, is there any newer WM2003 SE ROM avaliable for himalaya than WM2003SE 2.06.00WWE?
Edit : Nothing happened I still do not have camera, and I also notice My XDA II splashscreen is not showing up, instead it is a blank screen, probably some firmwares I flashed with earlier messed everything up on my himalaya.
Edit 2 : I manually looked through the extended rom contents and found the camera and installed it and a few other programs, but I get error "the program you have installed may not display properly because it was designed for a previous version of Windows Mobile software" nonetheless it works
extended rom is a nbf file like a real rom it include a list of cab files and a text file which list the cabs
after a hardreset it auto install all the cabs
you dont need to flash a nbf file (it's don the same way as a normal rom buzzdev prob got some)
about 2003SE then it's a bit of a bastard rom
it was never released (as far as i know) as WWE (world wide english)
but only as chineese and was manualy translated to english by fans (heard that there are still chineese bits around in the rom which display as garbage chars)
about a later 2003SE then there was another chineese rom 2.11 or something like that
but it was pretty unstable so never translated to english
personaly i were to drop wm6 wm6.1 or wm5 and go back i would go to wm2003 not se
version 1.77 as it's more stable so unless one need the rotate without a softreset (which is pretty much the only thing i recall SE offering )
About the EXTrom, i was never able to get it to install after Hard Reset, I have to manually install the cabs myself, ussually I remember my pocket PC would say "Please wait until your device is configuired" , then it would install a few things. But since I have began flashing with all sorts of firmwares I cant get the extrom contents to auto-install after hard reset, so i have to manually install them myself. And you are right, I am seeing weird garbage characters already after instaling the MMS programs from the extended rom contents.
But I do remember the first time i went to WM 2003 SE, which was a few years ago, I got the ROM from the offical o2 xda website, and it was perfect. But thats not longer available.
As for WM2003SE, I always thought it was an upgrade to 2003, I thought that SE (Second Edition) should be more stable.
I might just flash to WM2003, not second edition, do you know where I could find the ROM + Extended Rom contents for it ?
yeah it's 2th eddition
but wm is not more stable then the drivers and 3th party stuff
the rom have in them
also heard about a wwe 2003SE but never confirmed that it was around
maybe if you google deep and long enough you can find it
about official 2003 roms for himalaya then first place i would look would be
the ftp of this site they may still be there
2th would be around at buzzdev
3th would be on the sites or ftp's of o2 / tmobile/ imate and the likes
4th would be googling around
Ah the problem is the XDA Developers ftp site is not working. I looked over at buzzdev and they have no WM2003 Roms for the Himalaya, only WM2003 SE
Ok from XDA Developers ftp I find the following :
1.60.36 T-Mobile_NL_Shipped
Himalaya_T-Mobile_NL_1.72.903_eDsuBsofT
Himalaya_T-Mobile_NL_1.72.90_Shipped
Himalaya_T-Mobile_NL_1.75.903_eDsuBsofT
Qtekk_1.75_Converted
I believe they are all WM2003 (not se)
Which one to use?
