Minors89,
You should REALLY begin to do some reading on your own, rather than simply asking questions in these forums. There is a whole area on this site known as the Wiki. It has a wealth of information about everything for your Hermes. You will find the answer to this particular question HERE, for instance. If you spend some time reading the pages, which start HERE for the Hermes, you will find that almost all of the answers to the questions you might have are already answered, and you will not have to wait for someone to have the time to give them to you.
I see you also posted another thread just for this question. That is also against THE RULES, which you should read about HERE.
When people come along to these forums and post basic questions that have already been answered, it makes it harder for everyone to find information they need, as they have to wade through what amounts to a bunch of garbage.
PLEASE read the pages I have linked in this post before posting any further questions on the forum.
Thank you very much,
-pvs

Did you ever see Sleuth's reply to this question? I could not believe he even bothered, but he simply wrote THIS.
He has the patience of an angel, and sets a wonderful example!
...and so do YOU!

I appreciate you're new here and we welcome newcomers, but please do not give new threads titles like "Please read". Always give a brief/concise indication of the problem - this helps when people are doing searches later. Also all threads have equal priority and if we think we can help by looking at the thread title then we will open it, so pleading does not encourage us to look. In fact it can turn some folks off.
This forum has two search facilities one on the brown bar near the top of the page and a different type in the Google Search sticky post.
Here endeth the lesson
Go forth read, learn and enjoy.
Mike
Thanks for the lecture Mike ....well understood.
Can I please get an answer now?... I have a feeling it can be done I just want to know for sure.
Thanks ya'll
dude, if you click the word "here" in my post it will take you to the answer. also, if you click on the secret in my signature it will take you to the same answer. we all try to be self-sufficient around here, so Im not trying to be a jerk. if we spoon feed you the easy stuff you will never develop into the 'contributing' member that we all hope to be around here.
Apparently Mike's lecture wasn't 'well understood' because if it was then a very simple search would have provided you with all the answers you need.
So in answer to your question - yes you can.
Now I know your next question is going to be 'How' - the answer to that one is mrvanx's guide.
We've all been guilty of being new and also of flaming noobs, but when you've read a few threads you'll realise everyone's frustration at seeing this type of question again and again and again..... Also, I know the XDA search function isn't always good, but just by reading Mike's sticky, third from the top on this page, you'd have found a better way of searching.
Go on, don't be shy, and try it now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298893 it's amazing what you can find...

Because this is a development thread. Where people develope programs and provide assistance on them. Its not the yellow pages. No one here works for you. We are not your secrateries. New threads like this clog up the forum and make it difficult for those of us who use search. Take some time to read the forum rules.
Here is the hint. Top of this page to the right is a "Search" button. Its just below your name. Use it to search the contents of your original subject line of this thread. If you can copy/paste the http address of your search result to prove to me you did your due dilegents, but still cant find your answer, I will help you learn how to use search properly so you don't continue to post new threads. But at this point I don't think you have used more than 2 minutes of your time searching on your own.

Wow, never before have I seen such "jerk" behavior at xda deverlopers. The reason people tell you to search is because this site, like any other activity has rules. One of them is to READ and SEARCH to find the answers yourself before you post a question that has been answered in numerous other locations. While some people may be overly aggressive in their suggestion that you use the search function, it does not make their point any less valid. There are a lot of people on this site, and all of them are volunteers. Nobody gets paid to be here. When you decide that you're gonna clutter the forum with threads and posts that have already been answered very thoroughly in easily searchable locations then it just makes it more difficult for people who actually do know how to use the site properly to find anything. So in the future, if you have an interesting idea (which you did) then do some looking to see if maybe somebody else had that same idea and post your thoughts there. That way everyone who is interested in that idea can go to one place to follow any development that happens there. Otherwise you are basically saying to all the people who put a lot of time in here, that you think your time is more valuable than their's. Which puts us in this perpetual cycle of people who don't know anything complaining because the people who do know the answers want them to learn how to find the answers rather than just giving them the answer.

Search the entire forum. In fact google the interenet for the question I posted in that thread. It is no where to be found. And it was a development idea posted in a development thread after all that searching had been done. Your not comparing apples to apples. In fact there is no comparable comparison.
Anybody got an answer to that thread let me know b/c it still hasn't been solved!!!! LMFAO!!

I was less of a dip**** and it continued to happen. At least this is getting some attention that may make a noticable difference of noob's continuing down the same old path of ask questions first, search as a last result.
It would be great if the Moderators would put a sticky at the bottom of the sticky posts for this forum titled "How to Use Search before you post a New Thread" since noob's aren't even taking the time to read the forum rules. While their at it make the title of the sticky thread alway stay BOLD even if no new posts are made in it.
Hey Mods!!!! What do you think of that idea???

PocketCM Libraries

I thought i read some time ago when PocketCM was in early development that it used a third-party library for the scrolling up and down that it does.
Does anyone know what that library was? I would like to try my hand at developing a cool new app for the xda-developers community, but have no clue where to start looking for that library.
Though i have googled and searched this site first, maybe im not using the right keywords.
Thanks all

snachez, the point of of a forum is to find out information and talk about certain things, ask help, etc. Heck maybe someone has the same question as i do. And a forum is a great repository for information, so instead of bugging tene in this case, every time another person has a question, they search the forums and they find the information. You see, one question, many people answered. So technically, its not cluttering.
And just as a general rule of thumb, being rude will not get you anywhere in these forums. Just thought i would mention that as you have just joined us somtime last month.

I wasn't trying to be rude, but being the huge long time user you are... 23 posts over 18 months (slow down, son) you must be aware of the forum rules. Dont ask questions in a new thread unless you are contributing .. that's what the top sticky is for.
Sticky: Questions & Answers, ask here! *DO NOT POST A NEW THREAD UNLESS YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING*
As well, if you haven't received an answer a week after the initial post, you could logically assume that nobody knows... no need to ask if they don't. Contacting the actual developer would have been my first move, but meh.. maybe that's just me.

Need help...don't wanna screw up

I purchased a Tilt about 2 weeks ago. I want to install Flo Cube on it. Is it compatable? If so, how do I go about installing it? I have searched the site for days and have found where to get the cab files and such, but no instructions on how to install it. This is my first pocket pc, so I know very little about them. If someone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

Don't believe I am writing this but I am just about to defend the OP a little bit.
To his credit he did say he had searched before posting. We all know how imprecise searching can be on here.
I guess he hadn't taken the time out to read the forum rules or get a feel for the environment on here before posting in the develpopment area of all places (oh dear).
To the OP, I had similar worries about wrecking my device when I started on here so I understand your concern. Best thing to do is to search for the Flo Cube thread and post in there if you can't find what you are looking for. Alternatively PM me and I will see what I can do to help.
If you do PM me please say thanks afterwards. I have helped no end of people this way and they simply use me, abuse me and pi$$ off without a word of thanks. Highly irritating.

NEW USERS!

We've got a lot of new users appear on here lately, it looks like in search of updated roms for the x1.
PLEASE IF YOU ARE NEW TO THIS THEN DO NOT FLASH A ROM
without
A) reading
B) reading some more
C) reading even more!
All the roms should come through the SE Update Service, please use that as it is a simpler method and if something goes wrong, then you can go to SE to complain..
Please use the search if you have a problem, if you don't find what you want the first time, then search again, maybe try searching around the subject.
There's a very very good chance that the question has already been answered several times!
If you can't find the answer then flick through the older pages on the thread, if it's something to do with the operation of the X1 then there's a good chance it's in the oldest pages of the forum.
Experienced members get upset by people starting new threads with the same moans or questions because it really clogs up the great search system with all manner of wasted threads. If there's an existing thread than use that please! If the questions already been asked don't ask it again!
This forum is not a SE support forum, no-one (that will admit to it anyway) is from SE so if you have issues with them why not raise it with them?
If you want to know how you X1 does various stuff try one of the operators online guides.
If you flash a custom rom or another rom obtained from here, despite being warned not too. DO NOT go running off to MS or SE complaining that it's all gone wrong, they
A) won't likely listen
B)won't like us very much
Ta.
You should keep this on the very first ROMS subforum page fards
I know It's already written everywhere... old problem... but many people falls in parachute here, landing directly inside the ROMs post from external links. XDA DEVS is da bomb
And no newbies seem to read anything but exclusively what they are looking for

Hmmm...a rather sweeping generalisation methinks...
I'm a noob here, I'll admit that. However, I'm a board Admin elsewhere in cyberspace so I know exactly where you're coming from. I've done my time reading, understanding, occasionally asking relevant questions in the relevant places, and trying to help out where I might have some answers.
Your advice is spot on, and anyone who is inexperienced should tread slowly and carefully. There is all the time in the world to learn how to get it right, but it takes very little time to totally stuff things up.
"Use the search, Luke"
Instead of telling new guys to read, you could've put the same effort into and making a nice thread for them instead.
Maybe a list on where to start reading and so on!
This thread has no meaning whatsoever. New guys will probably just read first lines skip it and ask a question.
And remember we have all been there, not knowing how to flash etc.
Also searching can be a very time consuming thing to do, and asking and getting an answer is often way faster.
this thread doesnt make sense without any links to where to read...
This forum is where you read. it is a development forum, not a help forum!
you read the first thread that the moderators try to get EVERY NEW USER to read, this was a gentle reminder to get people to do just that.
People are not here to act as customer service for people who are too lazy to use the search facility on this site.

Yea that is true. I was searching PIE6 and i ran across about 13-14 threads of the same question. i was on like page 3 or 4 of the search before i got the right hit.

How about a period of not being able to post when registering ?, a day or three would give new members with their questions a little time to cool down and search/read for the answers which will usually be found here somewhere.
Just an idea.

I actually think that's not a bad idea, was just suggesting it to a couple of other members. Only drawback I think is that it couldn't be restricted to one sub forum such as the x1 from my experiences with vbulletin..
So it would restrict some of the truly amazing first posts that have come from some of the great genii?? on this site..
Alternatively we could have another Sub-forum, in the X1, with for newbies to ask the same questions of each other (like a creche) and anyone found straying outside of that forum until they've learnt to search and read would get electrocuted.. or something..
you mean, something like asking a question about an advanced feature, if you have it right then you're allowed to the real forums?
Well to be honest, the only thing a noob should read are the stickies. I learned to flash, edit, modify, type, behave, proof read, error correction, ask nicely, say please thank you cookie i love you, by reading those stickies.
Actually I think it's a good idea to have a sub-forum for the newbies, and then bomb them with the 'READ THE F-WORD STICKIES OR DIE' *going too far here...
Search ?? No thanks

But to search efficient you have to know what to search for, the keywords are important in a search engine. And when you're a newbie those terms might not be known to you. Or you might not understand a lot of them.
And beeing sarcastic about my comment is not helping anyone that is just pure immature.

Lets face it. Most people that come here with questions like "how can I flash my ROM?" just didn't bother to look. And trust me, there's plenty.
The bothersome thing is not that people ask questions, that's normal in a developer environment. What does bother me, and most - if not all - others is that they ask questions they can answer themselves by putting just a wee bit of time into it. Instead, they had rather have other people spend time doing everything for them. I can see where this attitude comes from - it's easier, but you get my point.

If people manage to use a search engine to find this site then they can manage to use a search engine to find the answers to their questions.
Not knowing or being too lazy to be independent enough to search is the real immaturity.
