Net access issues with telstra branded neon in UK - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

I'm got a Telstra (au) branded 20 key 4 band model. Have installed Virgin sim, which works fine for calls, but my net access is limited to Telstra sites. Have correctly installed the virgin 3G settings, have called both Virgin and HTC (uk) without any luck. Have tried the hard reset followed by soft reset option posted on another thread.
Any advice? (I don't want to flash a new rom etc since i don't have facilites for backup)

Try This, not sure if it will work
Go to Start --> Settings --> Connections Tab --> Connections --> Edit My Proxy Server and untick "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet."

it works!
but it is very slow - must be the virgin service i think. Thanks heaps - thought i had bought a very expensive vanilla phone handset.

The phone probably has all the Telstra Settings for accessing the internet, you will have to find out the Virgin UK settings and add them.

Quick newbie question (GPRS setting o2-uk)

Hi,
Sorry for this is a newbie question...
Should the GPRS settings be installed if I do a non-corperate install?
Mine arnt, and using settings from the web doesnt seem to work. I have used GPRS on my other phone with this sim card, so its data enables. If I put an Orange sim card in the Mini s I can use Oranges` GPRS settings no problem. *But i would really like to stay with o2)
If anyone has a fool-proof step by step guide I would be greatful to see it.
ANY help at all would be greatfully recived!!!
Thanks, Paul
PS I have searched this great forum, but couldnt find anything with an answer.
GPRS
are you sure you have the GPRS connection settings on the phone?
the way to check is go to
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS->ADVANCED->SELECT NETWORKS
here you will see what connection is being used and what other connection are available to be used. if the O2 settings are not there you can add them manually.
add the settings from here:
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
hope this helps.

Hi, Thanks for the sppedy reply.
If i go...
I have just re-installed to a basic setup

Tap ADVANCE>the TCP/IP tab is using server assigned IP address, TAP ON SERVERS TAB>USE SPECIFIC SERVER ADDRESS (DNS 193.113.200.200, alt DNS is 193.113.200.201). Tap OK> FINISH
If i try to connect to the net to look at google (or any other page) the large square G turns smaller with the 2 arrows and I get:
Cannot connect
Dialed mobile.o2.co.uk
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check and change settings BLAH BLAH BLAH....
All help appriciated!!!
Thanks, Paul.

Stupid question, I don't know the imate site at all - where can you find these settings, specifically Vodafone I'm looking for. I had a browse but couldn't see them.
Thanks,
John
Thanks Waiho.
I am now able to send MMS on my T-Mobile Vario phone with my o2 Sim.
Can I just highlight that should anyone need to do the MMS config part of your instructions. That they will also need to setup the GPRS WAP settings.
Thanks all. You peeps really are appreciated. This website has done what T-Mobile wanted to charge £15 and a 28 day wait, in 1/2 day (remember I am still learning).

I have them here.. If only I knew how to upload them to the FTP Server here.

To use FTP you can use IE or your fav ftp client, plenty of free ones out there on google, let us know when you have uploaded them. Oh, and name them well & add a txt file saying what they are, where they came from etc.
Many Thanks..

Thanks a lot for the settings, I'll give them a shot later.
Are there any restrictions on incoming message sizes on Vodafone?
I thought it was my P900 that was at fault, it would get to about 47% and then bomb out with an unknown error. But, it received a picture the other day fine, previously it received video messages ok but they were perhaps smaller than the ones I've been sent recently.
The Wizard doesn't have a progress bar but it seems to be doing the same thing, it seems to do nothing for a while then just comes up with an error. It seems to connect to GPRS ok, and remains connected afterwards so I assume the settings are fine.

Hi guys,
Is any wizard user in delhi (India) using airtel as service provider?

I've tried contacting airtel people and they just gave me the settings they have in their book, But after various efforts it's not working.
The GPRS and rest of the things like sms, mail etc are working fine.
Here are the settings they gave me
Server Name : Airtel MMS
Gateway : 100.1.201.172
Port : 9201
Server Address : http://100.1.201.171:10021/mmsc
Connect using : GPRS
If anyone is using some other settings or if there is something that i'm missing then please lemme know.

Same problem once upon a time.
But I have found that I was able to sucessfully send an MMS at night. I mean very late night or early morning I should say. When I asked the helpdesk, they told me that I happen to be in a network congested area. But then she was kind enough to give a reset on my profile which took me out of the network for a couple of minutes. When I was latched again, viola !!! no problems !!
Try that.!
By the way, what speeds do you get ? I get an excellent speed in Mumbai on Airtel than on Orange. Orange sucks real bad these days.
Hi araje,
Thanks for the reply. I've tried the resetting thing also but it was of no use.
Anyway I've found out the solution to this problem. Actually the GPRS settings that we use, has got the problem. Here's what i did ...
I created a new GPRS connection with the name MMS ( Cellular line (GPRS)).
gave the access point as airtelmms.com
In the advanced tab use "server assigned IP address", and enable the box "Use Ip header compression".
Now comes the real part...... in the servers tab, use "specific server address" and specify DNS as 100.1.201.172 and press OK.
Now to use the MMS part u go to connection settings, connect using this new connection and u'll be able to send and recieve MMS with out any problems.
For browsing and all use the other (ur normal) GPRS connection.
Though switching between connections is a pain in the a** but as i don't use MMS too much, it's ok for once in a while.
Well, Airtel provides EDGE connection in delhi (that's what my phone indicates me  ), but when i use it to download something on my pc it gives me a speed of 4-5 Kbps. Though it is not good to surf on pc (anyway i use broadband at home and work), but is good enough to work on my wizard.
Also i cannot complain about it coz i get it for 99 bucks a month ... so what else could u expect
Vineet
Hey Vineet,
Are you able to connect to Airtel Live ?
From the website here are the settings. I have been able to set some stuff but points 8,9,10-14 are tricky. I tried following your settings you used for mms but didnt help. Any idea how to set this ?
1 Connection Name: Airtel Live!
2 Data Bearer: GPRS
3 Access Point Name: airtelfun.com
4 Username: MSISDN e.g. 91982xx xxxxx
5 Prompt Password: No
6 Password: < blank >
7 Homepage: http://live.airtel.in
8 Connection Security: Off
9 Session Mode: Permanent
In case of the WAP 2.0 complaint phones, the following extra settings need to be done:
Under Options > Advanced Settings
10 Phone IP Address: Automatic
11 Primary name server: 0.0.0.0
12 Second. Name server: 0.0.0.0
13 Proxy server. address: 100.1.200.99
14 Proxy port number: 8080
hey what phone are you using??
i've mentioned the settings for wizard (O2 mini s), iguess others will also have similar settings.... try that and let me know...
I am using Qtek9100 with AKU rom.
The new connection I created was exactly on your lines.

I set most of the stuff based on the way you created your connection. But how did you specify the port 9201. In my case I put the server ip mentioned in point13 in the DNS entry. But there isnt anyway to enter the port number.
Are you able to use the airtel live website ? Also one thing is that my Airtel mobile office works perfect since I dont have to enter any advance settings. Just the APN, and no userid/password. However, the airtel live website doesnt load with this connection. I use it mainly for laptop.
Thanks for your help in advance

Airtel Karnataka MMS settings
Those of us who have approached Airtel for help in configuring MMS on Windows Mobile devices know that their very competent customer service reps are blissfully unaware of the existence of Windows Mobile OS leave alone its variants like WM 5, WM 6 and 6.1. Ans when they direct one to their 'special GPRS helpdesk' the special GPRS guys haven't heard of anything newer than WM 5 because they attempt to walk one through the WM 5 UI.
Well to avoid calling Airtel, activate the MMS service on your account by sending a text message MMS ACTV to 222. Once the service is active, do not ask for MMS settings to be sent over the air as Windows Mobile doesn't accept OTA settings. Instead key-in the settings yourself:

3. Tap the Connections icon

8. Tap Next
9. Type-in airtelmms.com under Acess point name
10. Tap Next
11. Leave the username, password and all other fields blank
12. Tap Finish

Okay.... further info.... having been on the phone to o2 (several departments) for a not inconsiderable amount of time today.
These settings (above) will allow you access to MMS functionality and the O2 Active service. However full GPRS access, POP access etc IS NOT available via a pay as you go sim (I argued with several departments & threatened to take my custom elsewhere but to no avail!).
However the good news is that they offer an 'online contract service' with a 1 month cancelation period that will give you full gprs access. I've opted for the 'online 30' (i.e. 30 quid) with 500 sms & 500 any network minutes per month, 'online 40' gives double that.
I have trawled the web trying to find the correct answer & settings but it seems that it basicaly comes down to the fact that O2 will not allow full internet access on a Pay as You Go simcard, for some strange reason known only to themselves. I thought that a couple of stroppy calls & some cajoling would do the trick.... but it seems not.
Bottom line then?
You need to be on a contract. However if you don't need a handset from them then a 1 month tie in is all that's required - (sim only, online deal).
I'll post back here if I have further problems with them (I do require them to keep the same number as on my existing sim..... & given the number of uninformed people I've spoken to already today, could prove to be a whole new issue in itself!).
Good luck out there!
Ian

Help with GPRS settings

Hi,
I'm in a country where the operators don't have automatic configuration for GPRS. I have got the settings from the operators but don't know where to configure the X1 to do GPRS. I tried settings/connections/connection setup but it presents me with country selection and operator. My country isn't listed. Next I tried settings/connections/connections and add a new modem connection. Here I'm stuck cos I'm unable to put in the settings given to me by the operator which consist of:
username
password
accesspoint name, proxy and port.
I've put in these but X1 is always unable to connect.
Any help will be appreciated.
Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Manage Exisiting Connections -> New...
Enter a name for the connection: Whatever you want (something like your Networks name should help later on)
Select a modem: Cellular Line (GRPS, 3G)
next
Access point name: The one you got from your network
next
Username: The one you got from your network
Password: The one you got from your network
Domain: Leave blank
Fininsh
Proxy Settings
tick This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet
Proxy server: Enter IP address given by Network:Port number
OK
Fingers crossed this should work, haven't set up a new account in a while.
Sorry folks. I figured it out. I had to set the proxy in advanced. A bit of a drag I should think.

MMS issues with unlocked HD2

Hello all, I am requesting help with an issue that I am having with my HD2.
Ive had the phone for a little over a month now, and it is a great device. I bought the phone unlocked, and it was working just fine. But recently the pass code (the 4 digit pin to use the phone) to unlock the phone stopped working, because of this i had to do a hard reset on the phone. This set everything back to factory settings.
After some work I got most of everything back to normal, my only issue that i am having is Sending MMS messages. I have the server set up correctly as well as the data connections to the internet but for some reason it still wont let me send MMS messages.
I searched all over the board but nothing i found could help me so far.
If anyone has any advice or know how on how to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ive searched the entire board thoruoughly, and unfortunatly most of them only talk about fixing the MMS server (which isnt my problem), unless i overlooked something
@Shum97 i appreciate that, but thats the set up for Virgin Mobile phones, not ATT
No other help? Anyone?
i dont know about at+t but on o2 uk i have to have two data connections set up. One is the proper mobile data "mobile web", the other is wap, "o2 active", and this is the one used for mms.
If i set the mms settings to use the regular data account it fails.
Thing is, when you go to settings all settings connection connection and press 'manage existing connections' you only see the mobile web account available to edit.
What you need to do to see the other is go to advanced tab, and 'select networks'.
In the top dropdown, mine says mobile web, but if i change that and choose o2 active instead, click OK, and now go back to the tasks tab, the top half now lets me click 'manage existing accounts' to edit the o2 active account instead of the mobile web account.
(dont forget to change it back, else progs that auto connect to the net will try to use the wap account. In my case it still works, but is slow, and i think costs.)
So, , , not sure if it is any help to you, but when i set up manually, (and i have done three or four times) i ...
1 - set up the o2 active wap account
2 - set up the mobile data account
3 - set up the mms server settings, making sure to choose o2 active and not mobile web as the connection.
THanks alot, ill be sure to give this a try, Does anyone think Flashing my device might help with my problem?

only if the 'connection setup' has details of the at+t network in it. connection setup for the euro leo can be found as a cab, im sure the tmo one can be too, but i suspect neither will have att network settings in it.
Id guess it's manual all the way, sorry.
ah i see, ill play around with it and see what i can do then
