I'm interested in writing an add-on for IE Mobile that is like an offline cache mode (that allows back and forward caching of pages).
I'm unsure where to start, as for the integration into IE Mobile. It is even possible, to say, add a menu entry, let alone integrate an entire extension?
Thanks,
Matt
You can do a complete app and embed a WebBrowser control into it. That way, it'll be IE, but you can control what happens when user clicks links, etc.
Yea.......

With all the talk of AJAX at the moment, I've had a play with it in mobile IE. I wanted a local homepage that could load when I start IE and give me access to most of the services I use.
So from that homepage, I can get to:
Searching multiple search engines (Google, Wapedia, dictionary.com, etc)
My del.icio.us tags
My del.icio.us bookmarks tagged as 'mobilefavorites'
My favorite RSS feeds
And some standard "bookmarks"
I've also set it up so I can go to the full webpages or view them via Google's gwt.
I've attached a copy if anyone is interested (either to use it or just to see how it works).
To customise for your own RSS feeds, favorites and searches just edit "config.xml" - When you edit this, make sure it is valid XML (try loading it into IE to see if it displays OK - I usually forget to replace '&' with '&')

I'm working on a website that is very similar. It's not ajax yet, because i'm focusing on the lowest common denominator such as mobile phones running browsers like netfront or ones that are to slow to really run javascript code at a reasonable rate.
the site is at http://wampad.com. I'm also working on a uk centric version but i haven't released that yet.
The only thing it haven't added yet is rss feeds, but i'm working on it. The tag I use for del.icio.us bookmarks is mtag.
I'd really like to here what you think.
There's a nice right up at, http://wapreview.com/blog/?p=100
I am pretty sure that PIE doesnt support the xmlhttp control.... This could be why you have commented out methods like getXML and added comments like "This doesnt work in PIE"
Thanks gurok, I'd forgotten I'd left those comments it.
PIE doe support the xmlhttp control (It is actually used in the code to retrieve the RSS feeds) - what it doesn't seem to support is basic authentication with the xmlhttp control.
Thanks

This might not be completely Wizard related, but thats what I have so I'll shoot. I was wondering if anyone had any idea on where to start looking for an ap to view Video Feeds from Security Cameras that are normally accessed via a Java Applet in IE. Like is there possibly a Java app that can display a feed that would be seerate of PIE? Maybe a program that can be changed or slightly modified?
The provider/manufacturer of the equipment doesn't offer anything. Their newer equipment uses ActiveX Controls rather than Java so maybe an upgrade could help? Any ideas/help would be appreciated.
The Company has a Demo of the Java Applet that is used to view the feeds. Same as we use for the bar but we only have 9 feeds. Viewing one feed at a time would be perfectly fine and probaly desired on the smaller screen.
See the demo here...

Any Ideas??
Cliffs: Can anyone think of a way to view the feeds in the demo above on a PPC? Java VM related...
ANy good places to go for Java related resources for the WM5? I would like to at least play around with it. Maybe try to tweak and work up a different solution. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd just hold out for a real browser than can display your java-based feed. Never fear, one's coming...
See: Skyfire.
Take a look: http://webcam-holmes.en.softonic.com/pocket
If your desired feed is actually a "Webcam" then this might be the ticket for you...
SkyFire looks promising. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy. Maybe a Beta a little early?

Good luck. I think they've passed them all out already, and the licenses are utterly non-transferable, so any beta copies that have been shared out have been unusable by anyone but the authorized recipient.
There's a thread on this board (somewhere, you search...I don't want to) that includes a copy. Your mileage may vary, but I don't think anyone's been able to use it yet.
One last note of caution: Skyfire's license agreement clearly states that they can, if they wish, capture all data transferred to and from (this includes keystrokes, BTW) websites. Privacy on their browser is not reality. This means, for example, if your camera feed was providing illicit or illegal images (like a voyeur cam in a public restroom, for example), they can, and presumably will, point the finger at you. This may change in the future, but hey, they've gotta protect themselves, if they're acting as a go-between for the web and dirty, untrustworthy end-users.

Most Java VM's for Windows Mobile are not robust enough to handle Java webcams. At least that's been my experience. I have a Toshiba IK-WB11A webcam in my house. It also uses Java and I've tried PIE, Opera, Minimo, and other WM browsers - none will work.
The only work around I'm aware of is to deconstruct the Java Script to see where / how the webcam is streaming the "video". I was able to do that by loading up and opening all the HTML pages that my webcam served to my PC browser (Firefox > View > Page Source). Typically the video stream is in fact just a JPG that's refreshed every fraction of a second. Once you identify the JPG path / name you can open it directly. Or if you're ambitious you could create your own simple HTML page, add the JPG image, and add some code to auto-refresh in PIE. Something like this code should do the trick...
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="10;url=http://path/to/my/image/page.html"/>
Ok I am looking for the same thing mate and doing a little search for web goodies to work on the phone . If anybody has any ideas or software let us know.

Nice link I will test it out .
Pocket Wikipedia, hand-checked selection from Wikipedia which is about the size of a fifteen volume encyclopaedia (24,000 images and 14 million words).
It includes the best of Wikipedia as well as many thousands of pages of extra material specifically selected to be of interest to children who follow the UK National Curriculum and similar curricula elsewhere in the world. The articles have been cleaned up and checked for suitability for children.
Works on PocketPC, Windows and Linux
Download from http://www.free-soft.ro
Fails on HTC Touch HD with Opera
On my HD, any menu item in Pocket Wikipedia launches the link in Opera, which is unable to process any further clicked links.
It seems PW launches the default browser, where it should really stick to embedding an IE control. Any PW links should trigger a decompression of the topic from the huge file, which doesn't happen with Opera.
Does anyone know of a workaround?
Same problem here. It starts Opera Mobile instead of IE.
I tried making Opera Mobile the NON-default browser (by unchecking the "set default browser" box in the setting menu). PW was able to launch IE but IE just got stuck with the screen helplessly blinking. No Wiki text! No messages whatsoever! Had to shut down IE manually.
Wonder if Anyone could get PW working.
There is big problems with special chars like é, à, î, etc...
I shifted to WikiPock, far better despite a little cost.. Works like a charm
Yesterday I started using SOTI Pocket Controller 6.01 Pro in my office...
I'm also using TeamViewer there.. (Teamviewer is a remote control for Desktops.. which doesn't belong here. it's the best program i've used for remote assistance. if anyone's interested in information about it you can PM me).

Now.. i'm aware i might repeat some of the things written above.. but i found it to be amazingly useful so i dont' care
due to the fact that you can use wifi... and considering that 99% of the PPC's nowadays have a WiFi connection.. you can connect to any of the PPC's in your office and solve problems. we have 18 computers and 12 PPC's in our office and i realized that by using an instant messenger or outlook we can receive requests for fixing PPC problems and use the office's access points to connect, just as teamviewer does with the desktops, to the PPC's. We're avoiding ANY wired connection of the PPC's with the desktops as all PPC's are synced by bluetooth... so everything is pretty much as simple as it can get.
there is another program called MyMobile which a freeware.. while SOTI's software costs 35.95$.. but i found SOTI's Pocket Controller to be much more professional. We are also recording every movement while fixing a problem and are making an archive so that if we run into problems which we can't recall we can just check the archive to see if there's a solution for it.

Hi!
I am searching for a solution to get the current position of a mobile device with the help of javascript. I dont want to install any extra software for this, it should be possible by just using Javascript. It would be nice to have access to the GPS position, but Cell ID or WLAN ID would also be nice.
I know there exists google gears and the geolocation API by W3, but these have to be downloaded and installed - or have to be implemented in the webbrowser, which is not the case for Internet explorer or opera.
So is there any possibility to achieve this with just javascript? Any ideas?
Thanks for input!
push......
no ideas? every hint can help!
as far as i'm aware, javascript only lives within the browser, so can only manipulate the DOM and has no access to the operating system.
JavaScript isn't capable of accessing anything outside the browser, unless if you have a plugin (Gears or GeoLocation API) that hosts the service to your script. For example if you use JavaScript you can manipulate the HTML (Dom Object) but you can't use AJaX, unless the browser hosts the Assync Library!
Both Google Gears and GeoLocation API (plus a hand full of other solutions) host a set of functions in the browser which can be accessed by JavaScript (new XMLHTTPObject() [for examle]).
Shortly: Without (a) the host you can't access any function outside the browser itself!
