Looking for Tilt cradle that only charges by AC - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Accessories

I'm looking for a cradle that charges only by AC. I don't want it to sync/charge by USB with my computer. I keep my phone by my bed at night and there is no computer close by. A 2nd battery charger slot that charges by AC would be nice but not necessary. I checked Ebay and Amazon but couldn't find one. Anyone know if they make them and what site?

Seidio makes cradle that you can use with their AC adapter so you can charge without your computer on.

MDA II Will Not Charge Unless Laptop Is On

Hi folks,
Love my MDA II, but I can only get it to accept a charge when my laptop is turned on. If the unit is not plugged into USB or the laptop is not on, it won't charge.
What am I doing wrong?
Finally, I have noticed the last few days that the wall AC adaptor has not been plugged in, yet the MDA has been charging through the USB when the laptop is on.
My question is what is the point of having the AC adaptor if it serves no purpose.
I rechecked and pulled the USB and plugged in AC adaptor. No charging takes place.
you are doing nothing wrong. the power thru the usb port comes only when the laptop is powered up (whether the AC power is on or not ).
In other words u can
1. charge it from your laptop's battery but the laptop has to be turned on and it does not matter if the AC power of the laptop is plugged or not
2. you can charge the XDA directly thru its own AC adapter, independent of the laptop
The AC adapter does have a use, you can either use it in conjunction with the little square dc converter that you get free in the box to charge up the xda without the cradle, so you could have the cradle at home and tyhe AC adapter at home if you wished, and if you plug the AC adapter into the cradle you can charge an aditional battery, as the additional battery can not be charge via USB, Maybe xda developers may be able to frig the cradle to charge the additional battery in the future (hint hint)

Wizard Car Charger

So I visited my local Walmart and discovered a car charger, designed for Blackberry 6200 through 7500 and Motorola RAZR series phones.
The connector is the same, mini USB B.
$25,000 Question: Can I use this to charge my TMO MDA? Same connection, just worried the voltage or wiring might not be the same.
The AC chargers that came with my Razr and MDA are the same voltage-wise (5V) but not the same Amps.
MDA is 5V 1A, Razr is 5V 0.5A, they are not the same
However, it shouldn't damage the battery, just charge slower.
Just so you know, USB ports output 5V at 0.5A as well.
Edit: Sorry, I realize I completely changed my post, but didn't want incorrect info out there.
Thanks...I figured that, but was just making sure.
I got it in case of emergency...I almost always charge via USB; just leave it plugged in all day.
But you never know.....
Thanks!

Don't expect it to charge if you battery is below 30-20% charge. I'm not sure why this is an issue but it has bitten me in the rear once already.
Does anybody know why it's a problem for "less-than-1amp" chargers to charge back from the low threshold?
boxwave.com sells a 1 amp car charger. It has a USB port, so you just use it with any cable that normally plugs into a USB port. Since my Globalsat GBH-820 BT adapter came with a cable with large USB at one end, and _two_ mini USB at the other end, I can charge the GBH-820 and my 8125 at the same time.

That's not true,... if you use the VersaCharger like I do. This is where I learned of the "charging only" cable that Boxwave sells (how conveinent) and then they sell a Sync/charger for USB only. I have a Boxwave VersaCharger that I can't use without buying their "cable" to make it charge the 8125. I found this out because I have a Belkin retractable sync/charge cable that doesn't work with the VersaCharger as I had hoped. The cable that you have may work with 1amp charger but it probably won't work with theVersaCharger.
What is the output on the "min-usb" connector end of the cable? This sounds like the cable that I need for the 2 devices that I use.
...I wonder if they are putting some electronics in the cable connector...?
I bought the bundle that had a car charger (I have the regular; not the high output; not the Versa) and two mini-Sync (retractable) cables. I got caught by the fact that one of them is "charging only" when I was trying to use the "charging only" cable between my laptop and my TI-84plus calculator. I switched to the mini-USB cable that came with my calculator, and it worked fine, as did my phone with AS. That's when I looked closer at the two mini-sync cables and noticed that one was for "charging only". So, that mini-sync cable (the charging only) stays in the car, and works fine for charging my phone or my GBH-820. The really odd thing is that the "charging only" cable looks "thicker" than the one that works for syncing. Maybe lower gauge wire to help the higher current flow easier.
I have also used my other USB-miniUSB cables with my car adapter. E.g. the cable that came with the phone, the cable that came with my TI-84plus calculator.
My Bluetake headphones came with their own USB cable that has, for lack of any better term, an ultraminiUSB (or some kind of proprietary connector, cause it's not marked with a USB symbol like the other cables) plug at the end. I just plug the regular USB end of that cable into the car charger, and it charges the Bluetake's just fine.
Excellent car charger for Wizard
I have purchased and used the "Ecovell 4x USB" adapter on both a Wizard and a Universal. It provides a 2 Amp output which is equivalent to the AC adapter and works with any mini-USB cable. It will charge a Universal from absolutely dead which I have not been able to do with any other adapter. Here is the link to the item on Yes Depot:

I've ordered from them and the service was OK. I haven't seen the item available anywhere else.

Dave

GPS power eater

I bought a usb to car adapter recently for my ameo, and still, power is being drained from my pocket pc when i run tomtom.
Is it the charger?
its been brought up before somewhere, the athena's wall charger is 1amp, car chargers and usb are lower, usb only being 500ma, so it takes longer to charge but using the car charger the battery should last a lot longer.
you need one of the pocket pc techs mini 5 adapters
without one, using an amp meter, my athena pulled 350-400 ma off of any charger i hooked it to (using usb cable).. wall charger, car charger, computer usb didnt matter.
using the ppc techs adapter... upped the draw to 750-775 ma, it charges 2x as fast, and more importantly, doesnt run down the internal battery in the car, while running tomtom.
I got that trouble with my old charger coming from Mitac Mio A701 since gives me 500 mA. I got the HTC car charger at Expansys (original HTC charger for car) and gives me 1 A... and now I got no trouble. I can use Tomtom all the way home full screen bright and HDSPA with Blackberry Connect working and the X7500 still charges.
So got a 1 Amp car charger. I got the HTC one because someone told me the pinout is different and use the 5th pin to run quick charge. I cannot confirm that... sorry, but I got the HTC and works.

USB recharging weirdness

I can't locate a usb bob to test ultra-tiny pins on mini? usb so it's hard to triage this issue.
I bought sync/charge and charge cables from BoxWave...they work perfectly and allow me to charge my 8525, S9, 820 and Holux GPS from a battery pack, wall xformer, car charger usb, etc.
I then bought charge cables from JAVOedge.com and they don't work...they do charge my friend's 8525 though.
The JAVOedge cable won't charge my 8525 but will charge my Holux GPS.
Both charging cables are 2-wire and charge/sync cable appears to be 3-wire.
Although JAVOedge doesn't charge my 8525 when it is powered up...noticing another forum thread I powered 8525 down and now it DOES seem to be charging...at least orange light is on.
I recently bought Targus ultra-slim hub, VEC414S and Tumi Universal Slim PS....yet can't get a lockdown on exact usb charge-only cable reqts.
Why can I connect ANY device via USB directly to computer and it always charges with vanilla usb....yet same usb connected to powered standalone usb hub or charger/battery no workee. Is this due to 1A from computer usb and only 500ma from hub?
Any ideas? I'm confused without approp. BOB to check pins with multimeter.

problem charging using car charger

ok so i bought a universal car charger (link: car charger) and when i plug the charger to the 12V port of my car, my phone shuts off and it wont turn on. when i unplug it it turns back on automatically.
plugging into wall charger or computer usb works fine, so i dont think its the battery.
anyone having the same problems with car chargers? is there any setting for this? or is it just the charger i bought?
- Rooted phone, using CaNNoN202 Eclair ROM.
thanks.
Probably it's a generic POS charger. I would either buy a Magic-specific charger, or buy a lighter socket > USB converter. That's what I use and it works perfectly.
