White Screen? Is it FLEX or LCD? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

My less than 4 month old unit experienced the white screen syndrome (blank white screen with some occasional orange lines)
the unit has been opened by a technician and he is pointing the problem to FLEX cable but they dont have much experience repairing HTCs, only NOKIAs.
Biggest problem is the flex cable cost like US$100-150 on ebay now.. after reading thru XDA-Devs, i noticed some indication of LCD problems..
can anyone give me insight if this is more of a LCD problem or FLEX problem.. some symtoms includes:
GREEN ON light on top is active, but CALL D Pad and HANG UP buttons are not lighting up and fuctioning.. the unit still starts Windows Mobile and still beeps and buzzs without any problems..
Heres the photo of the unit.. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.. thanks!

There are existing threads on this, here for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=303872
Very briefly on this complex issue:
1
Not likely to be the LCD
2
Could be the flex cable between screen and D-Pad
3
Can be the actual connector not seated well at the D-Pad. It has two screws (tiny) and MUST be seated absolutely flat and must be neither loose nor over tightened.
4
It can also be components on the D/Pad board that are faulty
5
Recent reports also suggest that in some cases it may be faulty capacitors on M/Board.
So NOT an easy one to track down.
Closing this thread as threads exist - but don't expect a definitive answer - some suggestions here and there MIGHT work for you.

Are there any specifc tools I will need. Please help with this, as it is getting to be veryloose and annoying.
Thanks in advance
Is it loose when twisting (IE rotating the screen 180 degrees) or is it loose when flipping the device open...
For twisting, the base (the area you have in blue, on the keyboard) is magnetic.
It is possible that maybe this has lost some of its magnetism ?????
Test it out with a fridge magnet to see if has a good magnetic field...
If you are talking baout the flip, there are these metal pins located inside the 2 hinges on the keyboard... (to the left and right of the blue area).
It is possible that the plastic has worn out, and these metal pins have a lot of play, allowing them to move very easily...
If this is the case, then you could always try and create more friction, within the hinges....
The best way to get to the part is to disassemble the main unit(not the LCD screen part)...
To do that, you are going to need a very tiny screwdriver, and a pair of tweezers....
Have a hunt around for the Universal Service Manual... That describes disassembly and re-assembler much more elequently than I ever could...
(If you cant find it. PM me with an email address.. And I will sort something out for you...)

Ribbon/Flex cable for LCD to mainboard broken - help needed!

Hi all,
Last night the ribbon connecting the LCD to the mainboard snapped. I was wondering if anyone knows a cheap parts supplier who is either in or would ship to the UK, or better still someone who has a Hermes for spares who would send a flex cable my way.
From what I gather repairing my current one is out of the question.
I've seen this on ebay: http://tinyurl.com/ebayhermes
I assume this would do the job for me? I have a HERM100 (Orange SPV M3100)
After fixing the white screen issue upteen times I feel confident enough stripping the Hermes down to do the repair, if it's viable to do so.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Edit: Ok, so from a little looking around it seems I have to choose from one of 2 connectors, black or gold. I see very little difference between the two.

My LCD connector looks more like the 'black' one, though they are very similar. My flex cable is broze/golden coloured. Is there something really significant I can use to confirm 100% which mine is? Mine is 'Toppoly' tagged at the top, if that matters.
Just to add - I remembered I have a Wizard (I-mate K-JAM) knocking about at the bottom of a drawer somewhere. I found an ebay auction for flex cables for the Hermes that also lists it as Wizard compatible. So would the flex from my Wizard possibly be compatible with my Hermes?
Does the same 'black or gold' rule apply?
If so I'll have to trash the room later to find the old Wizard!
If you look at the large chip board on there you will notice yours will match one of the layouts the componats on them are layed out difrentley that should let you know which is yours.

[BUILD Quality] Slight spacing between Glass and the metal boarder..Anyone else?

Hello Guys,
My two weeks old TF got some build issues as most of the TFs which not really bothers me.
One thing bothers me little more, There Slight spacing between Glass and the metal boarder..Anyone else? On the HDMI port side. The spacing is not too big but I can see for example the silver metal part of the HDMI port if I look carefully.
Anyone else got such problem? Should I send it to warranty fix? Or I should just ignore it? If it got no technical bad aspects on my device's life I dont care keep it as is... And if one day I have some major issue which prevents from me to use it I can ask them fix this gap by the same chance...
Whats your thoughts?
Thanks!

I don't have any gaps, but i do have lines of white glue in the join at the bottom.
i have the gap by the bottom port as well. Same as the guy who took the pic
Sure, I've got a similar gap to that on the right side of the screen... it's not like it's a huge issue though :\ it still runs perfectly.
Mine too
Mine had a gap around most of the LCD. On the volume button side I could see the inner workings of the power button and volume button through the gap. When I sent it in due to a power button issue they replaced the LCD due to a bad pixel. No gap when it came back.
I emailed asus in israel this picture asked them if its ok and can danger the device due to exra needless holes \ gaps.
Besides its looks bit weird i dont mind it works cool!

[Q] Desire Z / G2 Digitizer issue / replacemen

Ok, I had a search and I can't see anything quite the same as what I have going on, if there is I apologise and please point me at it?
Anyway I have an HTC Desire Z, I dropped it and smashed the digitizer. Everything still worked perfectly but I eventually got sick of reading through smashed glass (luckily screen protector meant I didn't cut the tips of my fingers off lol)
So, I order a replacement digitizer, slowly and carefully fit it (following a couple of guides on youtube etc. Everything is safely back together however now when the phone turns on all I get is a rainbow coloured stripe going up the left hand side of the screen. I pulled it all apart again assuming it was a lose/bad connection put it all back together even more diligently.. same thing.
Figured it was faulty so the seller (generously) sent out a replacement unit... problem is I am still having the same issue... any idea what I have done wrong/is the LCD now buggered too? I am so confused as all worked perfect until I "fixed" it
Looks like this now (ignore the bubbles that is just the cover that comes on the new digitizer unit:

any and all help is appreciated.
I am having the same issue...and I believe it to be a poorly connected and or broken ribbon cable. I am however not 100% on that.

That black circle on the screen indicates that the lcd is damaged. I has a similar problem. I replaced the lcd and everything was running again.

Note Hardware Damage - No Signal

I bought a Note on eBay with some water damage with the hope of fixing it. Works perfect except no signal. Found this:

}
I've replaced this with a new board. Luckily it only cost $9 on eBay.
Still no signal, so look further under microscope at work. Find a capacitor blown/missing from the board (C240):
(Click for full size)
It's not listed in the component parts list from the service manual. On the board layout it's highlighted green but I can't find what this indicates.
Does anyone know how else I might be able to find out this value?
I'll be lucky if it's only the cap that's damaged and not any chips hanging of that circuit but it's worth a try.
On second thoughts, green may indicate an optional component. Some other components marked green are missing from my board.
Back to the drawing board
It recognises my SIM card but I just get no service.
Service Manual troubleshooting points to U300, the main baseband chip, which would make sense. Unfortunately it looks to be a BGA so not easily removable.
A long shot, but if anyone has any thoughts they would be much appreciated.
Did you ever fix the phone? I have similar issues with water damaged gt-n7000. No signal but recognises the sim card and baseband processor (u300). Also the rf path looks good all the way to the antenna etc...
Nah, sorry. I ended up selling it as it appeared to have more serious damage, likely an IC on the mainboard.
