PocketDivXEncoder allows you to encode video files with some parameters that fit the capabilities of handled devices (PDA, Smartphone, Portable VideoPlayers). On a PocketPC, Palm, or Smartphone, the recommended software player is TCPMP on the above post
Try TCPMP and you will need no encoders. Recommending to se "Pocket hack master" to overclock you PDA so movies run smooth.

Hello
When trying to watch captured videos from my MDA II / XDA II (.mp4) I don't get an image and no sound. So which codec I must install to watch these videos?
THX

this is what google had to say about that
On the PC, Microsoft Media player doesn't suport MP4. You need to download a MP4 compatable player, such as quicktime.
I've tried various MP4 codec plugins for Media Player, but haven't managed to get any to work with native MP4 files yet.
re
I have not managed to get anything to play the vid files produced by xda 2 with anything but the latest version of Quicktime.
There must be some other vid players out there ?
Cheers, shire
I did try it is success but still I cannot view the Video in a full size screen.
I am looking for a better one.
I found some other application calling "am player" and "explainer" by searching through inter net but as per described it is not supporting the MP4 or it need some updating .If any body found a better way pls inform me

MP4 Coded
I use a product called EnvivioTV. It is a standalone app as well as plugin for WMP. So Mp4 video can be viewed in EnvivioTV app as well as in Windows Media. I downloaded version 1.5 from download.com. The file is EnvivioTV.exe
Thanx for your replies, but I did not manage to get Sound with Quicktime Player - Video works, but no sound! This other Plugin EnvivioTV even doesn't work - Media Player rejects to play the files although it defenitely accepts the files...
Any solution?
Thanks for the tip chioque, EnvivioTV works well.
Is it possible to download codecs from the internet for your pocket pc just like your home pc, as some video files i have copied onto my xda ii will not play, if so what is the best site to get these from?
Thankyou, as always!
Whats file types are you using.
Pocket TV plays MPEG's very nicely.
Also try MVP for other types including XviD's.
You will have to Google for them as I don't have the adresses
I use this DivX player (Mpeg4), don't know if it works with WM player.
Is that the codec Bob?
Yes, it is.
I compressed .avi file using DivX ;-) MPEG4 Fast/Low-Motion with Hero Video Convert and was able to play it on my MDA
but having the codec will not make mediaplayer play anything but
ms's own formats plus mp3
to play anything else mediawise you need 3th party players
If you need to play divx you should try BetaPlayer at http://beta.topcat.hu/ , it's amazing how fast the decoding is, I can see no differences with a divx played on a PC (feeding it with a 320x240 movie of course)..
Yes BetaPlayer is pretty good : very stable with good decoding capabilities definitely the way to go to read Mpeg4 on your PPC
Hello
i used pocketdivxencoder to create .avi files for my XDAExec. tcmp plays it without a problem however when i use windows media player t play the files i get the message
"cannot play back the file. the format is not supported". why does it come back with this mesage?
it could be cos your using a divx encoder try tcpmp found athttp://tcpmp.corecodec.org/download
thanks for the reply
you mean to say tcpmp can play divxencoded fiels whereas wmp can't?
pretty much
ah ha

Click to collapse
I don't think there is at this point in time, wmp is very limited compared to the PC counterpart
tcpmp i think is the best codec about for any xda device, plays pretty much all file types....... and screen res is amazing when watching movies.

thanks for the replies dudes
microsoft should wisen up and release a new version of wmp
they won't 'wisen up' as you put it due to the fact that they want to promote thier own codec (WMA & WMV)
Dear All,
Is there a software that i need in order to convert Windows media Player 9 files, in .avi format before downloading to my Xda Exec? I tried a couple of times but it just says the format is not supported. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks
regards,
Ravi
When you got WMV files your Universal's media player shouldn't have much problems with it. For larger files, say like ripped DVD's I use PocketDivxEncoder to shrink them & TCPMP to play them back on my Magician. Works like a dream & both programs are free .
Regards, M
I often use Windows Media Encoder to convert avi's and mpegs to wmv files.
The built in wizard includes options for Pocket PC sized files (320x240, low-ish quality sound) but you can totally vary the Bitrate (video & sound) to suit whatever quality/size balance you prefer.
You can download it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx
And it's totally free.
The only downside is that it doesn't seem to be able to rip a DVD directly and convert to wmv. I normally need to use a 3rd party ripper to convert the dvd to mpeg or avi.
Nowadays though with my new 4Gig SD Card - I just whap the full movie (700 odd meg) onto it and play it with the best PPC media player available: TCPMP (The Core Project Media Player)
(Oh - Windows Media Encoder is also useful if you have a TV card in your desktop - you can stream the TV out onto the net/intranet allowing you to watch your programmes on your XDA
Still unable to convert
Hi guys,
I downloaded the Windows media encoder but i am unable to convert the .avi file. Everytime i choose the input file and the output and click finish it says ''Input media format is invalid'' Why is that?????
I chose the Pocket PC option as i would like to view the file on my XDA but i keep getting this error msg.
Would it be helpful, if i downloaded another software for conversion???
regards,
Still unable!!!!!
Hi guys,
Downloaded the PocketDivxencoder and converted the file but when i tried playing it on my XDA it says file format not supported!!!!!
Is it a problem with the Windows Media player that i am using?????
Is Windows media player the default player for the XDA? Would it be helpful if i installed another Media Player?
Where can i get this TCPMP ?
Any suggestions would greatly appreciated,
thanks and best regards,
What kind of avi are you using, a divx maybe? Cause avi is just a container for many formats & wme doesn't support all of them.
Regards, M
Just google for tcpmp it's really easy to find.

OK DONE!!!
Hi guys,
Sorry for the multiple posts, but i finally managed to download TCPMP and converted the files via PocketDivxencoder and it now works...FINALLY!!!!!
Sorry to have bothered everyone,
regards,
I got it with the PocketDivxencoder too.
BUT: I got several avi-files, is it possible to get only one big file?

Are there playable on a htz wizard (gp3) phone if yes what software and does it run stable?
Ciao
Player: i use DivX Mobile Player, downloaded directly from divx.com. quite stable, fast and easy user interface
Files: any divx can be just copied on the memory card and played.
Hint: Since the mobile would have to convert using the processor the dimensions of the output i suggest (OPTIONAL) to use VirtualDub to downgrade the movies to 320x240.
This weekend on the airplane i was looking at the last dexter episode and was quite smooth and clear. Also downgraded the file was quite small (40mb).
If you need help in finding the proper conversion settings with virtualdub (that can work also in batch mode) just send me a line.
Thank you for your input. Is it also possible to play files like mkvs and such. I am a anime fan myself and I want to be able to download a episode and easily watch is. Also send me that bath line if possible or post it so that the other users can too
No problem
The Matroska files are containers. Often the stream is already encoded in DivX format. I'll D/L one anyway and give it a try on my palm with DivX original player and let you know.
The other possibility is to use CorePlayer Mobile, that natively can play it. But is $25
Of course if you want to scale down the file and being able to share it more easly there is a VirtualDub distribution that does also MKV to DivX conversion, is virtualdubmod.
I am thinking to write in the weekend a complete guide for the "put your movies on the palm" item to share it. Both the GUI and the command line (batchable) process.
I'll do it before upgrading my WM5 rom
