Help - SPB Mobile Shell and Vito SMS-Chat - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 ROM Development

I have searched over the internet for my predicament but found no information, I believe this forum can help because there are a lot of highly technical people here.
This is what i wanted:
To make the SMS icon of SPB Mobile Shell linked to Vito SMS-Chat. Both programs are really great and it would really be far out to have them integrated.

Not too difficult

If it's in the 'Oganizer, Internet, Multimedia,...' menus, then you gan open the SPB Mobile Shell settings (main page - 'Settings > Spb Mobile Shell' ) and move along to the 'Advanced' tab on the bottom, choose 'Menu' and then find the icon name in the lists - if you tap and hold, you can choose to 'Edit' the link and change the path to that of your choice!
or
follow the instructions to find the 'Advanced' tab - choose a menu where you would like to have the link to your sms (remember, you can always pin this to the main screen for ease of use!!), tap and hold on the menu title and choose 'Add > Link' add a link to your choice of app, then tap and hold to edit and change the icon! You could then untick the standard SMS choice to save confusion!
Hope that doesn't sound too conveluted - only takes a few seconds to do!

Thanks

Thanks Bird! It was really easy once you know "how to" but with regards to the NOW screen of SPB Mobile Shell, is there anyway to change the link of the 3 icons (email, SMS, Calls)???
Hope you can help me with this one. Thanks

Change the now screen!?
Not through the general options, BUT ...
Try this forum over at Spb Software - looks like custom layouts that you can download - don't worry about the colours - they can be overridden with the 'Theme' tab in mobile shell options (the same place you found the Advanced > Menu options)

Good luck, and let me know how you get on!
Also looks like there is an XDA-Developers member called pcarvalho who likes to mod Mobile Shell, go see his sig and send him a request - http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=771500

Really Good Info
Bird,
Once again Thanks! I'll check out this forum and see what i can dig up.
Kudos,
Mekaniko

Thanks mekaniko!
As the post says - THANKS MEKANICO!!
You got my interest going with the idea of modding Mobile Shell, and so, while looking around on the forum I put up a link to, I found out how to put a 'Games' icon in place of 'My Menu' WoooHooo - now my mobile shell is perfectly how I want it.
Bird

Thanks to you too!
Bird,
Thanks to you too!
If not for you I won't have known of simple tweaks for Mobile Shell. But anyway I'm still digging up at SPB Club Forum, a lot of them wanted the same thing I do, so I believe in no time someone gets to do it.
I think tweaking those 3 icons in the Now screen would take some modification of the registry, just can't determine where to start.
Hope I'll be successful

Registry Editor
Found a great reg editor that installs on the PC, but is for the PPC - I'll post a link to the site later (at work now)! It has a LOT of features and beats any that you would need to install on the device.
I still use PHM RegEdit on my XDA, but I prefer to use this when I can!
(strangely enough - it was while finding out how to put a Games menu into SPB Menu [ths thread] that lead to me finding the editor )

Quick way to settings on Today screen

Hi. I'm using cLauncher and I'm wondering if there was a way to get things like phone settings, display settings as an icon setting on the Today screen. Going through menus is a bit slow for frequently used functions. Thanks.
There is a thread somewhere around here that deals with making shortcuts for items on your phones "control panel" I wish I could find it, but it's going to be a bit of a ***** to do so probably. If I do find it, I will let you know.

This might help.
You can use this cab to create a link to the today settings and then add it to cLaunch. It creates a link to start>settings>personal>today.
In order to link to things such as the backlight control enter \Windows\Backlight.lnk (note lnk is LNK in lower case) into the 'File Path' field within the cLaunch settings. You can also add custom icons as well - search google for suitable 32x32 icons and then convert them to bitmaps. They work a treat.
To find out other useful info about shortcuts check the following posts by vijay555: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=507575
This link does not appear to be working - use advanced search using the word 'completeness' and the user id vijay555 which will return the required links.
They are very useful and informative. Vijay555 is also a fan of cLaunch from what I gather.
cLaunch is a great piece of freeware! I'd recommend it to anyone!

Request: PointUI, PocketCM & S2U2 combined

Just think about it:
if we could combine the home-screen of PointUI with the contact list and sms-functions of PocketCM and the full screen caller ID of S2U2.
That would be the perfect WM5/6 phone: user friendly and with all the options, IMHO better than the cube.
Any genius that knows how to? I'm only good with thinking it up
I already do this.
The Pointui forum explains how to change the lock application, so it can be pointed to S2U2. I don't use it's Caller ID function, but can't see there'd be a problem, I might have a play later, but the wife has nicked my phone.
It also explains how you can alter the default media player link, just change this to point to PocketCM, OK currently you can't change the icon, so PocketCM will still be presented as the musical note icon, but you know what it does.
It all works pretty well.
Ok I couldn't find it yet, I'll look for it.
Hopefully in the future it will be integraded, but for now I love PointUI.
I found some minor issues, but this is only version 1.01, I'm looking forward to the next version..
By the way, I really don't like S2U2, I just like the full screen caller ID
to merge S2U2 with pointUI you gotta do this:
Code:
with a registry editor procede with the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Pointui > Pointui.home > 1.01b
there create a String Value with the following information
Code:
Name
App.Path.LockScreen
Value
\Program Files\S2U2\S2U2.exe
of course assuming that S2U2 is installed on phone memory. if not get the path of S2U2.exe from File Explorer.
Now you can press the lock button from pointUI home and lock ur device with S2U2 and having its full screen dialer.

Because they (PointUI devs) haven't made that icon configurable. But otherwise, I do this. I have my lock point to S2U2, use callerID of S2U2 with no issues. I have my music icon point to FFF for contacts. (I had it set to my PocketPlayer for music at first, but I use FFF more often, so I switched it.)
Also, since S2U2 has the "lock on wake up" option, and the "lock on timeout" options, it still autostarts. I still leave iLock2.exe in my start up folder with home.exe. I let S2U2 engage even when Home is running (at first I tried to exclude it, but it makes more sense not to exclude it). So, all 3 progs work nicely together! And on my Kaiser, memory is not an issue!
They are 3 different developers...
These will always be 3 different applications, so we just need to wait for more customization of PointUI for better integration. I have all 3 running great right now. A couple ways (other than mapping the music icon or going into applications) I have found you can access pocket CM currently:
1. A. Down arrow at bottom of home screen. B. Favorites. C. PocketCM. Yes it is three keys, but it isn't bad.
2. I don't use Tasks, so I created a registry string to map tasks to PocketCM. Now all I do is scroll to "Tasks" on the screen and press it and it opens PocketCM. The string name is App.Path.Tasks and the data is \Program Files\PocketCM\PocketCM.exe (assuming you have it installed to the device).
In the meantime, I created a PocketCM theme:

I could be wrong here, but as I understand things SPB is a shell that sits on top of WM and takes over many of the normal functions of the O/S. You would either use the native O/S for most of the device functionality and just have SPB in a limited form on the WM Today screen or, use SPB to provide most of the menu-type functionality in its own shell...which doesn't feature a Start button.
In other words, you can have WM with the Start button or SPB without the start button, but not both.

you could create a shortcut linking to: "\program files\Spb Mobile Shell\MenuLauncher.exe" -cmd:"\SOFTWARE\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root\Programs"
(you can create a specific shortcut very easily with Total Commander)
Once you have this shortcut you can launch it to get the programs from start menu in the spb mobile shell interface. If you now integrate this link/button in your spb mobile shell theme, you will have access to all you programs.
It's not really what you requested, but it's a workaround...
good luck

i really dont think thats possible.
i think in fact its one of the few flaws in SPB MS
either way.. u should have used the search tool as mentioned
I apologize, I mis-understood your question.
However, i don't think you can use other 3rd party plugins in the now screen except for SPB products like PhoneSuite, SPB weather etc..
see spb shell forum
they have a cab file that allowed me to open webis pocket informant from the now screen. i don't remember if it works with other apps...
Not possible...
I'm looking for it a long time, and what you want isn't possible (i'm playing with the register to find the links and stuff).
The only thing i could create, some register tricks so you can customize every menu and LNK files..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415765
I'm working on cab-files and making LNK files with icons, but for now:
Working on exams on school.
Check this registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSCALENDAR]
"0"="Calendar"
"1"=":MSPOUTLOOK contacts"
Change the value of 1 to point to the Calendar application you want. Doesn't change the Mobile Shell hooks, but it does change the Calendar called from the Start menu.
maybe not working for every PIM manager, but at least some of them:

Owner ID

This is an easy question for some of you guys but I cant solve it,I have installed SPB mobile shell v3.5.5 and need to type in my owner id but can't find where to.I have looked everywhere.Do I have to do a hard reset and use contacts and "Me" then reinstall all my info or is there an easy way
Heres hoping.
Don
Hi Don, I had this exact issue and firstly it is possible, I did it.
Secondly I may not have done it the slickest of methods but at least this gets you there. I've tried to recall two routes depending upon where you are starting from.
a) HTC Sense UI:
If you are still in the original UI (HTC Sense) scroll sideways to the "Setting" tab. Touch the "Menu" softkey (bottom right) then "All Settings". You should then see a selection of icons from which touch "Today". That will get you to the old Today settings. See below for next steps.
b) SPB Mobile shell UI
If you are in this shell instead, hit "Launcher". You should now see an icon labled "Settings" (else swipe sideways to the second page to see it). Hit that takes you to a screen with more icons including one for "Today" with a cogwheel on the top of it. Hit that takes you to the old Today settings. Now see below.
Today Settings
Once here. Hit the "Items" tab. Remove any tick on the "HTC Sense" option (else the originally Today Screen won't appear later) and then tick the "Owner Info" option (and any others you fancy). Click on "OK" should now get you back to the old Today screen with the "Owner Info" today plugin showing. It can then be selected and the necessary info add. You can then go back into the today settings and re-tick the HTC Sense item if you want the original UI back and not the Today screen. Personally I use the SPB shell and the today screen rather than the HTC Sense.
I did this a long time ago so my recall may be a bit fuzzy for example; if the "Owner Info" isn't visible in the list of Items in the Today settings (it may not be) then you'll have to go into a reg editor (if you are comfortable doing such things) and navigate to :
[Mobile Device\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\]
Then ensure that the key "Owner Info" is present (add if necessary) and enable it (disabling "HTC Sense" at the same time as it seems to overide any other selection). If the key is missing (or you don't have a reg editor) and you need help at this level just drop me a line and I'll post a copy of my settings and suggest a few methods of accessing your registry.
Good luck.
Anybody found an easir way?
Regards - Mallow1
settings - menu - all settings - personal - owner
Sam,
Thanks but my phone doesn't have "owner" at the end of your sequence. I suspect Don is having the same issue (hence me originally having to go into the reg to get access to it to fix mine as nothing obvious was accessible). FYI this is independent of how I get there (through HTC Sense, SPB Shell etc).
Regards - Mallow1
PS I have an unlocked HD2 (none carrier specific) which looks to have originally been packaged for the German market (I'm in the UK and bought it online)
Just to add ti the conversation, my HD2 does not have the Owner when Igo to Personal either.
Ahh course, my mistake.
Hints tips reg tweaks sticky in Q&A section, tip 5 to unhide that option kindly hidden by HTC.
Thanks Mallow1 That did it,thank you all very much.I went to Today ,items and ticked HTC sense that gave me the chance to go to contacts and add the Me details.
