Hitting the green call button to act like the moto q - Mogul, XV6800 General

Just switched over...I really miss being able to hit the call button and bring up the view that the Q had. The call history on this phone sucks, it shows you an entry for every single time you call someone.
Also...A missed call is only accessible by clicking at the very top on the start bar, any way to get that down by voicemail on the today screen?

btw....nice research to all on the memory upgrades thread!

Which ROM are you using? the strength of this phone is that it is very customizable with software, tweaks, and upgrades. I can only suggest looking at the software HTC Home or SPB Diary/Mobile Shell for notifications on the today screen.

I'm just using whatever came with the phone....I'm on the sprint network. Most of the ROM related things that I saw were for Verizon. Is there a good thread that explains roms and breaks down the different ones with screen shots etc?

You'll want to look in the Titan Upgrading thread, which has oodles of info. I'm using dcd's 3.0.1 ROM. And I'm on Sprint as well.

The standard Dialer is driving me MAD

Opening the phone interface there are a number of numbers visible that I've recently dialed.
Some numbers even show what type of number (car, mobile, home work) was dialed by using "<c>" as in indicator.
Intuitive I press and hold one of the last dialed numbers, hoping for an option menu, but nothing happens, only to have this number dialed on release.
This must be a nuiscance to more people than just me.
Is there a solution, or even a better dialer program, so I can exchange this one?
you know how the <txt> or w/e is surrounded by left/right arrows/brackets (<>)? That's to indicate you can swipe your finger (left or right) to cycle through the different options (much better and easier implementation than 'holding' down for the change I think).
Hope it helps
I agree. the standard dialer drove me mad as well. Almost returned the device.
It was especially annoying, because I borrowed a WiMo from a friend first, and I liked the dialer.
The solution: Disable the phone skin, go back to the WiMo dailer.
Many utilities can do this, amoung others: Advanced Config V3.3, HD Tweak, etc. Just disable the phone skin.

just in case: the wm6.1 standard dialer makes you lose the bt status icon in the top bar as well as the in-call volume-control! (but there is a somewhere a thread with a cab to fix that last issue)

Are you sure? Because I they are both still working for me, and I do not recall having to fix it?
The only thing that is missing for me is Video-Calling, though it can still be done from the menu.

strange... for me these two things are the side-effect of going back to the wm6.1 standard dialer, and other users (in another post somewhere) have confirmed that... so just feel lucky that that did't happen to you (but you are sure that you don't have these issues? when bluetooth is switched on, you still get an icon in the top bar, and when you make a call, you can change the volume of the 'person on the other side' with the volume keys (not system or ring volume)?)... so, just feel lucky, no idea why some people have it, some people don't... it's just a warning, but worth a try anyway, as the setting can easily be changed back....
regards jan
In retrospect, you are probably right.
I do have a "bluetooth" icon in my WiMo dialer, but it is in fact my headset icon, probably not the icon you refer to. And in fact, the headset is the one I want, so I do not care about any more base-bluetooth icon
And I rarely set set the volume, but when, I do that by the via the headset also, which also works....

TMO US: Missed call notification not showing up above calendar on home screen.

I've searched and couldn't find an answer so here goes:
I bought 2 HD2s on release day. One had data connection problem and I returned it for a new one. The second has been fine, but I came to realize that the large "Missed Call" notification doesn't show up above the calendar. I'm not talking about the small indicator at the very top of the phone. I can't figure out if user error is the cause here (i.e. did I hit an option I didn't mean to?). Any ideas?
No one? This does seem to be a bizarre bug and I cant imagine it is truly a bug in the Sense stock TMOUS rom. I must have changed something about notifications settings somehow. Any thoughts?
Do you mean how on older phones with the older touch flo 3d like the Touch HD, have that Call History button which turns into 1 missed call if you have a missed call?
Then no its not meant to be there, they took it out (stupid yes). If you want it back, go the themes and apps section and download cookies home tab 1.7, you can add it there aswell a boatload of other features.
Oh! you mean this was an option from cookie? I have it installed on mine but not my wife's phone. I'll try this out!
And yes, what I meant was when you miss a call, a large notification gets popped in the middle of your screen right over the calendar. Thanks!

How would you improve SE UI

Hi all,
Since it is very clear that rooting this phone is almost impossible and we might not be getting it sooner, I say we give Sony a review of their UI. If SE gives us 2.1 by Q3, then its good, but we better tell them what we did not like and they should change them.
Timescape: It’s pretty slow; there should be an option to turn it off. If you chose this as your home screen then you don’t get weather report. They should have their own customized weather UI.
Mediascape: Did use it so don’t know.
Dialer and Contacts: When I go to the contact of a person and want to call him; by mistake I often press the msg or home number (instead of mobile). The problem is narrow line for each field. Every day I make this mistake (there could be icons, instead of txt field).
Other Improvement: Since we don’t have a call button, like htc devices, we should have a UI like ADW launcher; where there is always two quick launch buttons. The digital clock in the slide screen is bigger and perfect for the 4’’ screen, but in home screen it is pretty small. There should be a color change option for it too. Tethering app included.
Please put your improvement ideas of SE UI too. We could send this to SE and hope to get them soon.

good list of things to be told to SE, i think they should include flash player also for web browser , make more than 3 homescreens , change the blue theme to a one that is suitable with most of wallpapers or make an option to change this blue theme , and finally port some options that is included in froyo roms ,if they are not planing for a froyo update
My one wish for SE to change their looks would be simple. Ship with a default, like it is now and then add the option "Enable customisation" which would leave the OS stock Android without the added SE bits.
Majority of people would stick with the default, just look at how few "non-geek" people even change their wallpaper. Let alone going all out to change their UI. But it'd be an awesome option for us powerusers and would take minimal effort on SE's behalf. Give us that option and we'd probably turn in to a great PR machine since the HW is pretty excellent.
Make the volume rocker not increase/decrease the ringer volume when I'm on the home screen. I would make it more like original Sony Ericsson phones and have it bring up the phone's status.
Put some effort into the dialler. My last 3 Sony Ericsson dumb phones have had smart dialling features, this Android Smart phone has the dumbest dialler since the Nokia 3310.
The least they could do is plagiarize the dialler from their own phones.
Simple.
Sony Ericsson = Sony, so they should have gone with XMB from PS3
I like that interface. The only thing is screen. So maybe something like LG Crystal but then in XMB (Xross Media Bar) style
In Mediascape, I would like to be able to set "Music" to always go to my playlists.
Actually, even better would be to have separate mediascape shortcuts for music/video/photo on my homescreen and be able to set what each one defaults to.

I used it a bit but found useless and confusing, so I disabled it. I don't think that any improvement would help. I would like to just get rid of it.

It is actually the best media player I found on Android. I just would like to have a more finger friendly interface and some minor fixes.

Exactly: again the problem is a more finger friendly interface. I also would like to get rid of Timescape things I don't use in the Contact screen.
.
I would like an option to access the media-volume from the home screen, atm i can only access phone-volume and it annoys me
They should also implement a virtual "Accept" or "Deny" button when you receive a call rather then a slide bar, like the iphone for instance.
And of coarse ... the interface! more userfriendly please.. bigger buttons, less text buttons..
Also i am very disappointed with the Top bar on your homescreen, some time ago i was used at using windows mobile and when you tapped the Bar on top with (battery, Signal strength etc) you could actually tap one of these features and you would go directly to the settings for it, for instance with windows mobile if you tapped the Signal strength you went directly to a menu where you could manage your 2G, 3G, GPS, Wifi, bluethooth etc with just one tap and now you cant, or even if you pressed the time you went directly to your alarm, clock, calendar and i would like this to be possible with SE aswell
And one more thing, since we are using a 1ghz processor its obvious we have spare power most of the time and there should be an option to set your device to Low-medium-max performance just like Windows mobile, this will save us tons of battery.
I know i'm whining about windows mobile, but to be honest that were the only 2 features i like about it
What I would like to see improved..
Okay I've had this phone for a while so I feel qualified to speak on this.
1.) I actually love timescape but recognize performance and more options such as changing the background to more animated backgrounds or figuring out a way to add more filters to it (i.e picassa , myspace, etc )
2.) I also like how the messages appear in the infinite screen on a contact and wished it stayed in that view when responding to messages.. That would be hot!!!!
3.) Also the best improvement they could do is allowing pictures from facebook to be saved to the contact when you don't have the contact picture assigned already. That would be helpful and windows mobile had that feature on my prior xperia devices.

Actually that they did, if you press the power button it denies the call. I know that's wiered right?

2 Annoyances, looking for solutions

I apologize if this has already been covered. If it has, I wasn't able to find it.
1)
After a call, when I pull the phone away, the notification bar gets stuck "slightly" pulled down and touches to the screen are unresponsive. I have to pull the notification bar down all the way, then put it back up to make it go away. Otherwise, the bar just stays at about a half inch (or less) from the top of the screen. I'm using the SuperDark rom, but I don't think it's an issue with that since I remember the same thing happening with one of the first calls I made on the phone. It seems to happen about 1 out of 4 calls I make. I'm pretty used to it now and I usually just end the call using the notification bar when it happens, but I wanted to know if anyone is experiencing this and how it can be avoided/fixed.
2)
Animated GIFs. I saw the post of annoyances saying how the browser doesn't support them. But I couldn't find anything about the Gallery app not supporting them, either. I can deal with the browser, but I use Chandroid for 4chan and such, and it would be nice to view the animated GIFs I save from Chandroid in the Gallery. Is there a fix for this? Or possibly an alternate Gallery app I can use?
Thanks in advance
1. Don't press phone against ear until the proximity sensor turns the backlight off.
2. Don't have a specific answer. But I bet 2.2 wouldn't hurt.
good day
Looks like there was a discussion about the gif thing back in April.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660914
I have seen conflicting information about this, though, on the web. I have a phone with 2.2 at home, so I will give it a test tonight and let you know, unless someone replies sooner.

Custom Text Tones After Oreo Update

Hi All,
Ever since I got the Oreo update on my S8 a couple of days back, I am not able to set custom text tones for individual contacts.
This was available, and extremely useful, on Android 7. Does anyone know how to enable this? I'm on Stock ROM. No Root, nothing customised.
Thanks.
I was on the beta and rely on this a lot as I have dual sim for work and home so it's a must for me to have different tones per contact, however, during the beta Samsung removed it and I raised it as an issue. Every beta update that came out I kept raising it as an issue, at one point I got a bit irate and they actually replied saying the beta wasn't over yet and new features are always being added. Anyway, final Beta came out and still no custom tones per contact, so I have ended up installing the google messenger app that does allow you to do this (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging). However, the settings are configured within the messenger app and not stored against the contact like they were previously.
I upgraded from the Note 8 to GS9+ and lost ability to assign contact specific text notification sounds. This is a downgrade since many people found this feature useful prior to Oreo. I too installed Android Messages just to restore this feature. This needs to be fixed to work with the phone's default messaging app instead of forcing people to download additional apps to get this feature. Big mistake on Oreo developers part.
Samsung (or Google...or whomever), I just want you to know how unhappy I am with this so called Oreo update! Really?? You take away the text tone notifications?? That really sucks! Now I am being forced to download a 3rd party app (which you guys won't support) in order to get that feature back?!?!?! This is a BIG disappointment. I feel that I have been let down! You guys could have kept all the features like GIF and all of the other things you added. They are not half as important to me as the individual text tones were! SMH! I may have to switch over to iPhone. Yes! That's how upset I am about this!
I switched from iPhone to android for all the bonuses. This feature is one I have always used and now it's been taken away??? Back to iPhone I go.
GARBAGE!!
This is absolute CRAP!!! I got the update late last night on my GS8+ and realized immediately this morning with my 1st text that something had changed. Started digging and discovered the feature was gone...IRATE doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about this!! The feature NEEDS to be readded!!!!
So glad I found these posts! I have digged through my phone for a week now after the update trying to find how to change the tones for my important contacts! So annoyed I cant change this! Why would they do that!!! I don't care about updated emojis, I have had the same text tone for my finance for 2 years and now it's a default tone! So now I have to look at my phone every time, instead of knowing exactly who is messaging me !! Annoyed
I fail to understand the horror you are all expressing. Now is the perfect time for you to check out Textra. Forget the stock messaging app, you can not only customize your tones, but also color of notification icons, colors in chats, background images, type of notifications {heads up, floating, normal, etc.}. The advantages are numerous. Besides, isn't this the exact reason most of us use Android? If you don't like a stock app, there are enough options to replace it, you find something better.

I downloaded Textra and do not see an option that fixes the problem. I find this a big step back as I used the feature to make it easy to identify if my wife or kids were texting me.

Thanks got it. Liking the ability to customize a lot wth this. It is a shame it won't let you pick a custom background but it is making it easy to tell at a glance who I am chatting with.

You can set custom bubble colors, if that helps. I never even used the stock messaging app. I like using custom notification colors with custom led colors and sounds, so I know even when my phone is muted and the screen off.
Another option is to download a soundboard, I have an samsung s8 and I updated to oreo and downloaded a metal gear soundboard and it works great!
Fix
Download Android Messages and do the following;
Tap the Conversation you wish to set a custom notification for.
Tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner of the screen.
Tap People & options.
Tap Notifications.
Tap Sound.
Tap your desired tone.
Tap Save.
