I have a ORANGE SPV M5000 with an SD card 2GB.I'm byuing a new card with 4 GB.How do i transfer the data from the old to the new card,in order to keep all the software i have installed on the storage card ? Can i simply copy the content to the new one via computer or card reader,or do i have to "clone" it,with some kind of backup software ?
Hi there,
Ironically I did this to my o2 yesterday:
Few points to remember:
Always back up your data, explore the name of your storage file first via active syn :
1. Does your unit/rom only accept 4GB ???????, I am not familiar with your unit, however if it accepts an 8GB card then that's the way to go,they are cheap enough now.
2. Remove battery, then storage card ( In my case I did not switch off my unit to avoid a soft reset....)
3. Copy contents onto pc via card reader of old card and paste onto your new sd card after inserting it also into the card reader , ensure the file is exactly named as your existing old sd.
4. Re-insert new storage card, replace battery restart pda and the job is done
5. I use Resco Explorer in my Today Screen as an indication the new sd card is recognized.
6. Please be aware that I accept no responsibily for any of these suggestions as they only applied to my 02 pda, if in doubt just search this form or google.
Cheers

Thank you man,neat trick
I'm byuing the 4gb card because it's enough at this moment for my needs, and here in Serbia they aren't so cheap )
Thank you again for your help

Hey guys,
I bought a mini sdhc 4gb store card to replace my onde one.
Is possible migrate all the software and data I have on my 1gb storage to this new one without having to hardreset and reinstalll/ uninstall all the programs ?
When I change my SD card, my phone freeezes because of some interaction with the currently 1g SD card but when I boot using Safe mode I see that the 4 gb card is fully functional.
Do you know if is this possible?
Thanks in advance!
i've don it many times

Probably a dumb question but... hey..
My Hero still has the original 2GB card and I've now acquired a 16Gb replacement.
Can I simply swap them over?
Or do I need to do stuff first? I've backed up the phone's contents onto my PC. Anything else I should do?
Make a backup of the entire content of the memory card to the PC (the card acts like am external harddrive) and then dismount if from the setting menu and then format it (if you want) and then just replace it with the new card (format it if you want from the settings) and then just drag the backup onto the new card... what's the problem?
Usually, if you don't care about your files you can just swap the cards without even dismounting them.. this is *NOT* reccommended though...
But, when you dismount your card through the settings application you can remove your old card and just insert the new one..
If you want your files from the old card on your new card follow the instructions in the post before this one
Hi, thanks for the replies.
There is no problem, it's just something I hadn't thought about until late last night and having never done this on the Hero I wasn't sure whether any special formatting had to be done.
Now I know
Simples
Thanks.

I tested it a while back on the original memory card myself so I know it works.
1. Connect the phone to your computer via the USB cable.
2. Mount the memory card as an external device, a notification will popup on the phone.
3. Now open the external device from the computer and copy everything to your computer.
4. Dismount the external device.
5. Settings > SD card and phone storage > Unmount SD card.
6. In that same menu choose Format SD card (if you want).
7. Power down the phone.
8. Remove the backcover and pull out the memory card.
9. Take the new memory card and put it in the device.
10. Power on the phone again. The phone will automatically mount the new card.
11. Again connect the USB cable and mount the memory card as an external device to your computer.
12. Now just copy back the backed up stuff you made in point 3.
13. Dismount the external device from the computer.
14. Mission accomplished.
Hi all,
Just got a new 8GB mem card. Had my HD2 for a couple of weeks now, so got a few things on the old 2GB card. Whats the best way to go about installing the new one and getting everything from the old to new card?
Cheers.
Simply copy and paste everything from the old one to the new one...
I usually copy everything to my pc, format my old card and put the backup onto my new card.
You can try it otherwise as well:
Leave the 2 gig card in your phone and connect it via the data connection (not active sync because it's faster)
Then put ur 8 gig card into your pc by using the adabter supplied (came with the 2 gig card with your leo)
and copy the files directly to the new card.
Leave the whole structure as it is and you won't have any problems

Cool thanks, I'll give that a go in the morning when I can.
Hello everyone,
It my be simple but I'd better ask you.
I have got 2gb card in my HTC HD2 and now it is almost full with movies and applications (I have installed all app to my memoty card)
So, I'd like to change the card to 8 or 16gb.
How to copy everything?
Just simple drag and copy? or Do I need to install everything from scratch (Garmin,Shell etc)?
As my Mobile Shell and all stuff have been installed on my memory card, when I remove the card the phone will crash, won't it?
Shall I use "Format SD card" or I can format it using my Vista?
Thanks
Simply copy & paste all files from the old card to the new one on your PC should work fine (I did the same to upgrade from 8GB to 16GB SDHC). But do not delete the files in the old card so soon until you have tried and test all programmes after transfer. Better do a system backup before as well just to play save.
I formatted my new card on the device, but I think Vista can do the same. Just make sure you format it using the right "FAT" option (seach this forum for more details).
This is the procedure I have followed successfully in the past.
1. Attach the phone to your PC in "Disk Mode" NOT Activesync.
2. Create a new folder on your PC. Call it something like "SD-Card".
3. Copy all of the files from the sd-card to the folder on the PC.
4. Detach the phone, remove the sd-card and insert the new card.
5. Attach the phone to your PC in "Disk Mode" NOT Activesync.
6. Copy all of the files from the PC folder to the sd-card.
7. Detach the phone then do a soft-reset.
8. Everything should now work, but test!
Garmin wont work because it requires a card number, which changes in case of changing the memory card. It has to bi installed again to the new card.
Thanks for all answers.
Yes, I had to reinstal Garmin.
I9500 running android 4.4.2 Hassan custom rom v6

well ive bought 64gb micro sd card and i want to switch it with the one I have
however, i have a lot of apps saved on the current micro sd card.
Is there any way to backup sd card and switch it with a new one without losing data?
2) do you recommend buying exteme pro sd card?
there is a huge different between this one to the regular 64gb or not?

android folder on sdcard is not readable.
data folder on sdcard is not readable.
lol.
should be visable if you use a card reader as opposed to just plugging the phone in via usb?and make sure that folder options in windows is set to view hidden files and folders?
I've just tried with mine and I can see the Android folder and the .android_secure folder.
I think DATA is on the phone itself not on the ext-sd?

not sure, but usually the difference between sd cards is due to read/write speeds. best thing to do is read reviews from wherever you're buying the card and see if there are any from people using the card you've chosen with your device (or similar, like another mobile phone at least). if there are lots of reviews saying that it fails after a while, or that it is slow on their phone etc, then look for another one?
I have a Samsung branded 64gb class 10 micro sd xc (with the same "I" and "1" symbols as the one you've linked to, expect mine is plain black and samsung instead of sandisk. never had any problems, except for when i chose a custom rom that was not compatible with 64gb cards. but on stock rom it works perfectly, and even on other roms it will work fine if it's formatted on pc first with fat32 formatter.
