Repeat reminder of missed calls, SMS etc. - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Subject says it all, i am looking for something small to remind me, ideally on a user configurable setting, when i have missed calls, unread SMS etc.
I know Phone Suite and Phone Alarm do this but both are too big for my needs, lots of bits i don't need. There is also the issue that both of them stop me selecting an alternate SIP on my Trinity, a separate issue for which i have tried many things to no avail once i install PhoneSuite or PhoneAlarm.

Google DontForget made just for this reason.

Small footprint and exactly what you want.

i am trying it and will report back

Version for Smartphones of the DontForget will probably not work correctly because of very different PPC power management.
Of course you can try it, but you should wait few days until the real PocketPC version is released.

It installs and is configureable, it unfortunately does very little else, so i will await the PPC version.
Is the fact i have already installed, and now uninstalled, it going to count towards the trial period when i install the PPC version?

Deedee,
If I remember correctly, from one upgrade to the next alway restarts the trial period with all of Hujer's apps.
thanks,

Deedee,
Did you look at AlarmPal (from PocketMax - the same people who produce PhoneAlarm)??
The "cheap-but-not-free" AlarmPal utility - check out this link for more details - allows you to configure what alerts you want to be reminded of (Missed calls, SMS, emails etc.) and the frequency of the reminder. My favourite feature in AlarmPal is that you can tell it to STFU while you're sleeping - so it will only ***** at you between, say, 07:00 and 23:00...pretty neat IMO
HTH,
Mark.

No worries, Trial period will be reset once the release version is out.
DontForget for PocketPCs will be strongly optimized for minimum power requirements - very tight implementation of the WM Professional power management (display off, sleep mode etc.).
And of course, this is not just a reminder, a lot of other possibilities are built in ...

That requires .Net which i am trying to avoid installing. Trinitys get a wee bit grumpy when too much is installed, especially trying to change the SIP.

dont have touch,so dont know. You can try to ask at modaco.com site in the kaiser notification thread.

You can also try Best Reminder. It works both on PPC and SP and developed using native code (No .NET, etc):

there is only one feature i would like to see added: an option to supress notification bubble. like options in default wm events&notifications to not display notification.
other than that really great app.

You said you did not want a .net app but for those looking for a free solution who don't mind that.....
Brins0.net Status v2008.03.07
Brins0.net Status v2008.03.07 is a .NET application developed for PPC, when there is a missed call, or an unread message, the “Reminder Tone” will be played every predefined interval until the message/missed call alert has been dealt with by you. When the signal state changes, the relevant sound plays to notify you. This can be handy when you are walking around looking for a signal. When the headset is inserted/removed, a sound is played. Various status information can be viewed by tapping through the tabs.

Bugs removed:
- wrong char at the end of the clock
- wrong day colors if week starts on sunday
due to some feature requests it would be great if someone could tell me how to open PocketOutlook on a specific date. I didn't found any info on how to do this.
Thanks in advance,
Andre
Download Page at rotlaus.com
Thanks Rotlaus - it's a great plugin
Some questions/requests:
1 - Will you make the sources available? And, if not:
2 - Can you add some options for calendar and clock format? (I'd like to be able, i.e., to show always the leading zero for hours)
3 - Can you make the max font width bigger than 60 ?
Thanks again for the plugin
its nice to see some custom calender controls appearing on the PPC...
the guys over at Practisoft (www.practisoft.co.uk/practix.htm) are currently building a fully functional CF.NET version of their calender control (so ive been told!)
i downloaded their windows version and had a play about with it, its pretty impressive - ill be keeping my eye out for the CF.NET version!
This small soft is ỉmpressive
Kryptonic - I was speaking to David Goon from Microsoft at the Modaco party, and he said that Microsoft considers it unwise to use CF for today plugins (because of the overhead of running CF from Today). Hence, for the first time in my short years I've started learning C++.
This plugin is beautiful though! Keep up the good work.
V
Hi,
Rotlaus, this is very nice app, thanks.
Would mind making one that starts the week on Saturday!

ksasat
Hi Rotlaus,
Sorry to bring this back up (not sure if you are still developing it) but great today plugin you got here. I was wondering if there is any chance you can add the option to right-aligned calendar, date, etc? I'm asking because I have the calendar on the right hand side but when I flipped to landscape mode, the calendar would be around the middle since it's not right-aligned. If you can add this option, that would be great!
Also, are there plans to make this WM5 compatible? I am using a Sprint PPC6700 (HTC Apache). The plugin works but for some reason, it does not automatically come up after a soft reset. I would have to go into the today plugin menu and unselect it and select again before it shows up. Not sure if it's a WM5 thing or its just my device.
Anyways, looking forward to hearing from you!

Great Program, Alarm plugin?
I would like to say thet this is one of the best solutions for my wizard.
So simple but nice to have a big clock.
What i liked about the build in date plugin is that when i tap it it goes to the alarm setup.
Do you think it is posible to have this option in your app. so i can set an alarm and also see a bell. maybe even the alarm time?
Great work though, thanks

Today Plugins: which is most used?

Cause of low memory space i need to know how many users prefer a today plugin instead another.
Ps: If is Others (must have similar today functions of the softwares in the poll) , please write something about it!
Thanx for your contribute and sorry fotr my BAD english!
SkizZO: that's a very big question. What do you want your plugin to do? Many of us use many different plugins for very different reasons.

You have to install ONE of this Plugins, and i want to discover which is most used by Magician users.

Currently ?
- JGUI Zodiac Date (jeus for the date, and it doesn't pop up anything if you accedently tap it )
- tAgenda (used to have Tasks, Inboy and CalenderPlus, tAgenda makes all three obsolete)
- Oh, and Nakka's TDLaunch, because it let's can configure Iconsize and margins !
Not really a Today Plugin, but it replaces Todays info perfectly : W-Tools ResInfo (yes, Battery stats, Storage and Mem gauge in the Tray! It even shows charging )
My taskmanager is PocketNav, and i use the camerabutton as TodayToggleOFF and the memobutton for TodayToggle (Hi Vijay ! Great tools ! Normaly i would have taken a dozen pictures of side of my pants !
Now nothing really serious happens if the buttons get pushed accedentaly!)
Wow, someone actually uses TodayToggle?!
There's a name I haven't head for a looong time
I like it, but I will really have to think of something useful to do with that app some day!
V
Well, it's usefull enough for me.
I used to have "Today" under a button, but always shutdown the PPC afterwards, so.......
And if i use TTN5, i don't want to PPC to trun of, hence....
AND i always had a problem with accendently pressing the side buttons, and now the at least don't open "Tasks" or like i said, worse; the camare and starts shooting...
Btw, i tried Hidestart, but it doesn't seem to do anyting but temp. show time and batt %....
I'm still looking for all kinds of "Thumbs only" or "Thick fingers" solutions, i use my PPC a lot 'one handed' or in the car...
Espec. setting snooze to 15 min. or so in the car is considdered 'reckless driving'
I haven't developed HideStart any futher than a very early preview a long time ago. I've got some ideas about changing the way notifications are presented, particularly in VJSihaya, but I still like the idea of HideStart.
However, I think that when you "ghost" reminders, they still try to silently activate themselves from time to time, which causes your current app to lose focus, which is irrititing if you're typing something. I thought it was a bug in my code until I realised this. However, I still use it to ghost reminders from time to time when I'm too busy to snooze them all
It's possible some code I wrote for the upcoming release of VJOkButt (used to get around incoming call notifications) might be of help here... but HideStart is not a priority right now unfortunately. I actually just developed it for my own use in a modified version so that I could switch between Start Bar, New Bar and ToggleToday. It shouldn't really have been released, but I thought the reminder remodeling code was a useful idea to demonstrate... more later, I've got work to do

So do i, if it worked If i only could find a decent prorgamming/scripting language for the PPC. Although Mortscript is pretty nice, it misses so features....
And i'm not really a programmer, more like a scripter... Maybe i should take some time to dive into VB or eVB (I can do quite nice things in Acces on the desktop !)

Anyone know a Today Plug in that can do this?

I was wondering if there is a today plug in that will allow me to write or type my own message and show up on my today screen permantly (and allows me to change it through settings)?
Doesnt thebuild in tasks plugin work for you?? Or you want a more "post-it" notes kinda feel??
I just want like one line on my today screen to write whatever I want....for example......like the owner informations with phone number is 2 lines.....I want to disable that and write my own information in one line.....doesn't have to be owner info....just anything I want.....it's kinda hard to explain.....and I want to to be able to use chinese characters to write too.....

hey vijay, very interesting the way you made it look so small and efficient! mind sharing it? interesting little application; although i don't use it as much it's good as a quick scratch pad for all occasions...
Someone just emailed me about the skin.
I've found a copy on my ftp - I haven't used the plugin for a while, because I'm still migrating my setup to WM5 and deciding on new plugins.
But hopefully this is the skin shown:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/!tools/notestodayskin/notestoday_skin_new.zip
I modified the skin to take almost no room, but be stylus selectable, but particularly selectable with the dpad. I can't remember if I had to edit the registry, but basically you can switch minimised and maximised mode by scrolling down the today screen with the dpad and clicking enter. It'll shrink/expand accordingly

Hi Vijay,
I Guess this is off topic. But on one of the screenshots your have an extra blue bar underneath the start button. With two arrow vertical up anddown at the start and sms, phone, and bluetooth etc. in it. I also saw some sort of profiles program with the same arrows in a later screenshot. with seems like profiles to me.
Are those programs the same and if yes, which program is it? I'm tried several programs Pocket Zen phone and WM Profiles. But wasn't happy because the vibrate function didn't work properly on my wizard.
Let me know, thanks.
Cheers
Shah
Shah, the blue bar near the top in my 18 August 2005 screenshots is an early version of my PhoneAlarm skin. This was refined into the one you can see in my 5 April 2006 screenshot, at the top of the screen (being used via my VJToggleToday program).
This is used to select profiles (where the normal "Vibrate" icon is at the top of the screen, clicking this brings a drop down menu with my profiles, Work, Home, Silent, FlightMode)
PhoneAlarm is excellent, generally. Profiles are a very basic feature on any phone, and it's mindboggling that it's not a standard feature, but I like PhoneAlarm, and Bruce, the author (you can also see my slightly hacked version of AlarmToday as well in the screenshots).
My 5 April 2006 screenshot also shows claunch at the bottom (apologies for the stupid icons, I lost some icons when I changed phones), being used to change PhoneAlarm profiles with my thumb. So I can make calls/send SMS using VJPhoneTools, change profiles (PhoneAlarm), and launch selected apps all from the same plugin.
V
Vijay, do you not find PhoneAlarm is resource-heavy?
Also, is that skin on your home page? (I've had a look and can't see it)

Hi Guys,
First: THANKS YOU vijay555 for giving me the skin files! (I'll mail you later with my findings, regarding VGA and landscape use)

Thanks in advance.
Cheers!
Puzom:
I may have the skins at home. Frankly, it's easy to write your own. The standard skins are nothing exciting!
Webreaper:
My phonealarm skin is towards the end of the first post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27331&highlight=vjtoggletoday
I've used PhoneAlarm for pretty much my whole year on XDA devs, and never found it to be a problem on resources. There are simpler ways of doing what it does, but it's useful, and gives me easy control of profiles etc. Bruce is filling it up with stuff I can't imagine needing, like cell based profiles etc, but I'm happy with the basics - notifications, mail count, profiles etc.
PhoneAlarm or a similar app is essential IMHO for effective use of the phone.
I've had trouble with AlarmToday since upgrading to WM5, but the old WM2003 version was flawless and very useful too.
V
Thanks Vijay. Your skin looks the simplest and neatest I've seen.
I really liked the idea of the cell-based profiles, in particular for things like enabling wifi for when I'm at home, but disabling it when I'm at work. Unfortunately, my house and office are both on the same cell.

Xperia Bluetooth Switcher

Since I mostly use the spb shell-panel I started to get very bothered with the amount of clicks needed to enable or disable bluetooth (in some SE panels this is available with a click on an icon and then an OK but not in spb shell).
Since I am used to develop applications in Visual Studio I got around to learn how to develop for the windows mobile platform and threw together a little application to do what I wanted.
This little application simply enables or disables bluetooth without any fuss or questions and then terminates itself. The first time the application is started you will be asked whether you want your cellphone to be visible to other devices when bluetooth is enabled. I have this app in my startmenu so it is always available.

Unfortionately I have no idea how to code panels at the moment. I downloaded SonyEricssons developer kit for panels but it was only for C++ and my coding language of choice is C#. But maybe I can find something here in the forums.
Personally I would say I prefer not having this app as a panel since I want it available all the time (It's in my start menu).
Ah, that makes sense. It would have been just a goody to play with, I would have really liked such a panel, but you're right, this is much more effective. Hehe, and you would've been the first one programing such a panel, isn't that exciting? anyway, don't hear me, I know really nothing about programing, so don't care what I say just thank you for this really helpful app!!! Greez, cad^^
Thanks alot! I really wanted to use the spb panel but it didnt have the enable/disable connectivity buttons so I had to stick with the sony ericsson one which is painfully slow!
Is it possible that you could make something similar, but for enable/disabeling wifi, please?
cheers mate

Hi!
I am actually thinking about creating such a program. What would be the prefered way to do it you think? To get a question when the application is started whether you want to work with wifi or bluetooth, or to have two separate applications, one for wifi and another for bluetooth?
I am leaning towards alternative number two, I like just having to click the application once and that's it.

Yes, thats what I would prefer. Keep it simple.
why not install SPB Phonesuite - then you have a plugin on the today screen with one large nice button to quickly turn wifi and bluetooth on and off

Me too, as few clicks as possible please
Too bad spb didnt intergrate connectivity buttons in their panel...
I use aebplus.. amazing program.
linked the "OK" button to bring up the "action list" when double clicked, and then scroll down to toggle bluetooth on/off. super fast and reliable since it only uses hard keys.
read about my other shortcuts here:

Thank you!
from the spb-panel:
- click antenna
- click comm manager
- start bluetooth
and now:
- press start
- start bluetooth
is it really about 1 click ?
- QuadWord
Does anyone know if mikelspikel's Wirelesspower originally developed for the Dell Axim will work on the SE X1. I'm about to retire my X51v in favour of an X1 and use it all the time. Its a pill-crusher.

So was a wifi switcher created?
First nice work khaan!
I use PhoneWeaver, its really a profile tool. Where you can customize alot, sounds, connections and so on... manual or autoswitching profiles. But about the Bluetooth thing, you can add PW to you todayscreen, and there you see your bt-connection, press it to acitvate or disable it.
I found these whilst browsing the forum yesterday, seem to work well.

[very simple mockup ]
Okay so basicly it has a
tabslide for updating your status
tabslides for unread tweets*
*cause tweets will only have 140 characters.. it will be possible to show them completely in the tabslide itself.. hovering over means.. it is read
avatar image
it has a function to show like unread text/email... but than how many unread tweets.
it should have a notification option in the sound/alarms section inside wm6.5 options.. so you can add your own sound/vibrate/mute to it.
and most important.. it should run in backround.. without popping up in the taskmessenger.
it should have options for how many times a day it will update (5 minutes/30 minitues etc)
clickable url's
extra - a sort of extra inprogram window ( this will mean you go out of wm6.5 today ). where you can see all tweets. or at least latest 100 or something
I hope someone can develop this, cause i think personally it will have a big target audience Me myself.. aint a programmer.. would like to, but i simply dont know where to start on it and/or how!
tx
strages
anyone? comon know some want it too
this would be really nice

this thread is also on developing a twitter tab for wm6.5
let me get my cabs working then I will see where I can go with mine. I like the idea though. If someone wants to beat me to it thats cool too.

but im talking about how it looks in the first post on this page..that looks bad ass!! but im trying the other one to see whats what
Isn't twitter accessible via standard SMS? I thought most people use twitter in tandem with their built-in SMS system, and since you already have a txt plugin on titanium you should be good to go!
Sure, it would be nice to see the mailboxes kept seperate between tweets and all else, but personally I'd like to see an RSS feed or active tasks (i.e. the PIM tasks) since there is currently no other way to get that on the 6.5 today screen.
so if i use pocketwit on my phone right an send twitts, itll be using my text messages??? i ask cause i dont have an unlimited text plan an dont wanna get burned aka screwed with a huge bill!!!

Not necessarily. I said it CAN be used in tandem with SMS, and it shares many similarities (limited character message size, etc), however that doesn't mean you get charged for each tweet.
I don't know anything about pocketwit, but it may use data instead of SMS.
Most people I know use standard SMS instead of data, especially if they don't own a smartphone.
While I would agree that a twitter plugin is a cool idea (if you sms a lot, your tweets could get lost in the crowd), there are other potential plugins as I already mentioned that currently have no alternative. If it were up to me, I'd like to see those come out first.

PockeTwit uses data.
thanks for the guys who like my idea.. hope someone can compup with the acutal program XD
ye pocket twit is using data .. you can send tweets by email i believe but of cours that would still be data connection required
It should be possible to build a panel a bit like Shocos Weather panel which comes in two MortScript parts:
1. Settings, stores stuff in the registry like username, password and frequencies of updates, default Twitter app
2. The downloading of the tweet, shouldn't be too hard as it's pretty similar to the weather panel (might need a little work on the avatars), just need the RSS feed [although saying that, I'm not 100% sure you can get a password requested XML file with Mort, damm!].
The only thing that I can't see being possible is the update page, as I'm not aware of any input boxes on the tabs, instead you could have a page showing your status, with clicking on it bringing up a Mort prompt for the new status.
