Ok i have a wing and internet plan. I try to connect my laptop to my wing via USB but my laptop wont get online.
Will my wing assign the laptop an IP?
Do i need to configure anything on the laptop to get online?
I have active sync working but when i select connect on internet sharing it drop my active sync connection.
This is what works for me...plug the USB to the phone (but not computer) then start the internet connection & make sure it's (NOT) plugged up to the computer...then it wil say ( check USB cable) on your phone...THEN plug in to the laptop and it should work

Does internet sharing show "connected"? Are you using the correct data connection?
Its working now.
You MUST disable your active sync first. That seems silly to me.. but whatever its working great thanks..
Mine disables Activesync, the moment I hit connect on my phone screen....
does this work on the tmobile 5.99 plan?
i get this error message when i try...
HTTP ERROR: $CODE$

I 2 get this message wheb trying 2 use internet sharing on my lapton with the t-zone 5.99 proxy "hack" any way 2 get around this????
I've never used the hack, because I've always had the data plan... so I don't know... I don't think it will work properly, but again, I've never dealt with it personally.
Has anyone out there using the hack been successful with this?

yes i connect with the proxy on a regular basis, you have to set IE to work with the proxy. assuming you have IE7 tools/internet options/connections tab/lan settings and check the box that says "use a proxy server for you lan" once you do that enter the same proxy from you r phone along with the port ( 216.155.165.50 :8080 )
you will now be able to surf with the proxy, just remember that when your home and connect you laptop to your Wlan or whatever you have you have to go back into the settings and uncheck the box "use a proxy server for your lan" because if you dont IE will still be trying to reach the net through the proxy server and you will have no internet, the only draw back is that you will have to check and uncheck every time you switch connections.
now i never use anything other than IE so i dont know what programs can reach the net on the proxy.
You Can Do The Same Thing With Firefox
(i Love It Personally)
Much More Faster Than Ie Also No

Hi all, i managed to connect my XDA II to Activesync successfully and everything synchronize perfect.
i am just having hard time to make my XDA II Connect to the internet using the Activesync connection.
i went to options --> Rules ---> pass through , i have 2 choices here in connections 1. work and 2. internet !!! i wonder what they mean, any way i tried both and was not able to connect to the internet. do i need to make any changes to my XDA II Connections!!!
thanks for your help
I believe in your Connections in XDA II, you need to select my network card connects to Internet and select the Internet option in pass thru settings in ActiveSync
adapter!!!
ok i selected the the network card conects to: "The internet"
what about the other section. the adapter to modify, which one i should select!! i have 4 choices here:
1. NE2000
2. L2TP
3. ASYNCmAC
4. PPTP
My understanding is that you don't need to worry about those 4 adapters to get pass through to work. The most important thing is that both the pc passthrough connection and the Xda ii network card connection are the same. I.e. they are either both set to "Work", or both set to "The Internet". I use the "work" setting
i think i will break this stupid device :x , i tried both "work" and "the internet" non of them worked for me. and when i go to my XDA II Device and i change my network card to connect to work and click ok and check it again, it appear going back to the internet selection!!!! my PC is connected 24h/day to the internet through ADSL and i can't make this thing to use it

Are your ISP using Proxy server?, if yes configure proxy setting in your XDAII device.
I was able to surf the internet using both pass through options .
I had this problem and in the end I found that if I enabled a public proxy:
212.42.175.155 port 80
then the XDA would connect to the internet through active sync.
i can't get my xdaii to activesync, just keeps coming up as guest? It synced OK the first time... now just guest only. any suggestions.
Try removing xda from cradle, delete partnership in activesync and then reconnect to establish a new partnership.
A complete removal/restore of activesyn may also work but is more tedious. Make sure it is the latest version also.

Yes abo_khaleel , my ISP is using Proxy server. Where exactly in XDA II i can configure the proxy server. i mean in the network card section. I know when i make a GPRS or data connection i can see Proxy settings there but with the activesync i can't see it.

Not sure about xda2, since I have I-mate, but:
After conneting thought activesync, click signal signal strength icon (on the top of the screen), then click settings, this will open connections settings, then click: edit my proxy server. if you have more one than connection, try them one by one.
I was just wondering....
why would u want to on the internet on ur XDA via activesync?...isnt ur PC online already?...i just dont see the point just seems like if u were to buy a microwave that needs to be put in the hot oven to work...or is just me?????????? :?:

i can see your point but my XDA II is connected to my PC using bluetooth and since it is a feature that i can use while i am every where at home why not having it , i mean i don't have to sit all days at my desk to do my internet work, i can use the net even when i have boring friends visiting me

i have the same problem with this guy... im using an i-mate k-jam running on winmo 6.1. i was able to successfully connect the unit to my pc via activesync. however everytime i try to use the internet and browse a certain website, i got this kind of error:
The page you are looking for cannot be bound due to an unknown error.
0x80072f78
any help on this one? i used to connect to the internet via activesync, but since Sunday, 21 June, i cannot. what could have gone wrong.
many thanks everyone
Whenever I tick this box and click ok I go back in and its unticked!!!!!
The only way to keep it ticked is to specify a proxy server but we dont use one, we just connect.
Any idea how I can tell it that my work connects to the internet?

On the connections screen, where theres the Home connections and My work network connection - i think you can only have one or the other ticked for connecting to the internet. So unchecking one should allow the other.
Matt
i think ive worked around it.
You can tick it but you MUST have a proxy server. Now, I dont have one, but if you put a blank space and save then it now thinks im on the internet as well as my internet profile does. The only thing that doesnt work via this is MSN, that seems to have a hardon for wanting to use GPRS or any connection explicitly listed as Internet
I've recently signed up for T-mo Tzones package which works pretty well for what I need. I've heard that I could use my MDA to connect to my laptop via bluetooth DUN and surf the net on my laptop. If anyone has done this, could you share your settings please?
What I've done so far...
-connected bluetooth DUN with computer
-dialed *99# and left login id and password blank
I am able to connect successfully but the internet on my computer doesnt work. What could be the problem? Thanks for the help.
You can try replicating the proxy trick on your computer...
not quite sure how to do that.... but there must be another easier way shouldn't there?
Well T-Zones net access is redirected through a proxy server by T-Mobile so your not going to get it online unless you go through that proxy server. If you don't want that hassle you should subscribe to the plan designated for the MDA/HTC Wizard which dosen't need the proxy server... enough rant...
Search the Forum for the T-Zones proxy hack/trick and i'm sure you'll find the proxy address and port. In your browser/other internet app set those settings in them and see if you get online. I can't tell you if it will actually be replicatable on the PC (though i see no reason why it can't) as i use T-Mobile Internet for the MDA so i don't need a proxy (i.e. i can't test my advice).
anybody know how to do this? im going to my girlfriends house and im bringing my laptop and they dont have any wireless connections in the area so i wanted to connect my cell phone to my laptop n use the GPRS/EDGE to get internet on my laptop so any advice would be great!
Do a web search on 'MDA' and 'modem' AND 'the-name-of-your-provider' (mine is T-Mobile)
The steps for the first 2 terms are nearly the same, but the key is the settings that are specific to your provider.
i have tmobile as well
Just to let you know, on t-mobile you have to set up the same proxy in your web browser on your pc as the one you use on your phone when connecting (216.155.165.50 - HTTP) or it won't work. As for setting up connection sharing, if you're using WM6, just run internet sharing, if you're using WM5 though I can't help you cuz I never used it when I had WM5.

The proxy IS necessary for tethering using the $5.99 tmobile plan.
THe proxy IS NOT necessary for the "Total Internet" or Unlimited Internet plans.

I understant that it can be dont without the data plan but I cant find any instructions anyplace.. Kinda new to the board so If you could send me a private message I might be able to find this again.. thanks
Have a look at chainfire's app which allows you to do it through wifi:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341398
Wi-fi only?
This link appears to be wi-fi only.. will it work with the Sprint Network.. ?
Yeah, what it does is convert your Mogul's WiFi into an access point. Your laptop will access your Sprint connection as though it were connecting to your wireless router at home.
if my laptop is wireless?
I wouldnt need to use my phone if my latop is Wi-Fi.. Guess what I was wanting is a way to use my laptop using the sprint network, for when I cant get Wi-Fi.
I thought is was possable but I must have been mistaken

This is the point. Your Mogul will be your WiFi access point that will use Sprint internet connection. This is for when you CANNOT get WiFi with your laptop.
OMG !
I'll try it one last time...
1. Your laptop (as you just confirmed) is capable of receiving WiFi.
2. Your Mogul receives Sprint's data connection.
Unless you are not aware, your Mogul is also capable of receiving WiFi (like your laptop). What chaninfire's program does is make your Mogul capable of SENDING a WiFi signal while connected to Sprint so that your laptop will receive it. Your laptop will be connecting to Sprint's network through Mogul's WiFi signal. In other words your Mogul becomes a wireless router.
OK. i get it... Sorry.. was confused
Didnt mean to sound like a idiot.. but I was lost thinking that I could only use Wi-Fi.. But now know I can connect to the Sprint network and using wi-fi to connect my Laptop make perfecr sense.. now if I can just figure out how to get it working.. I'll take a lok at the like you sent me.. If I remember it looked confusing but I'm sure its not as bad as it looks... thanks a lot

If you follow the instructions you will also unlock the internet sharing app. Once you have followed the instructions in the thread about chainfires app, to share your internet over USB,do the following.
1) terminate the activesync app on your handset
2) Run the internet sharing application
3) As soon as its done connecting, plug in the USB cable.
4) Enjoy the internet. A similar procedure can also be used to connect via bluetooth, but you get better speed over USB or via WiFi.
If you want to use wifi, you can either follow the adhoc method listed in the thread,or you can use a wireless access point. To use a wireless accesspoint, set your WAPs local IP address to 192.168.0.2 Internet connection sharing will want to be 192.168.0.1 Now you need to connect your mogul to the WiFi network, and connect your PC to the wifi network. Go into the network properties and set your pc to 192.168.0.x where x is an unused address. Set the gateway and DNS servers to 192.168.0.1 and your on the internet. As far as I know, this should work with multiple computers on your network, and it will connect up easily and seamlessly when you flip the wifi switch on your mogul.
From the WMWifiRouter topic:
Sprint HTC Mogul/SERO Notes
It seems Sprint is up to shenanigans in regards to tethering for SERO users. Those of you running Sprint ROMs should navigate to the following registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing" and delete the string value named "Extension". This will allow you to connect to the Internet via the Internet Sharing app without the dreaded error 67/authentication errors. Previous to this fix, Mogul SERO users would have to connect to the Internet via another method (such as starting Internet Explorer first) before pressing the Connect button in the the Internet Sharing application.
If you're really paranoid (it has been concluded these entries have no meaning when using Internet Sharing), using a registry editor, navigate to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\WModem" key, and set the "CheckProfile", "Multi-NAI" and "WModemDUN" DWORDS to a decimal value of "0".
Click to collapse
WMWifiRouter does this for you automatically, but that isn't much help if you want to share via USB instead of WiFi. The above solution should work with USB as well, and the error 67 goes away. GL
on internet sharing... should it be set to phone as modem or sprint pcs?

With the Mogul you can have your Wifi card on and still be on Sprints EVDO network at the same time. Basically you are broadcasting the EVDO connection wirelessly. I use it on my laptop and get pretty good download speeds. It pretty much like using the Sprint EVDO connection data cards...You have to go into the adapter settings under the connections tab and give it a static IP address (ie 192.168.1.9)
Work with Verizon?
It seems like all of the posts speak about Sprints network, do these methods work with Verizon?
Are there any methods specific to Verizon?
I just signed up with for a SERO account and have one major question regarding the wifi router app... Does it put the phone into "tether" mode? In other words, will sprint be able to detect that you are sharing your connection or does it simply bridge the phone's EV-DO connection to its wifi connection?

It's a bridge but Sprint can always detect it if they wish. A guy over in the WMWifiRouter topic says he has been tethering for quite a while this way and hasn't gotten a bill for it.
Oh So simple.. Bluetooth connection
Well I Got my Mogul like 2 months ago and just stumbled across the internet sharing app and to my suprise it worked.... No Xtra software required
I have a macbook 13'in w 2g ram, bluetooth and all that. I use my mogul with my mac and it works like a charm wish i had EVDO in the area but it is good for now....
Step one: Pair your mogul with your computer.
Step Two: Make sure you Have a connection to the net on your mogul. Use ie to go to a page on your phone (otherwise it will say your username and pass are not right)
Step Three:Open internet sharing on your mogul. Make sure your PC connection is: Bluetooh Pan and the Network connection is: Sprint PCS
Step Four: Tap the connect tab on your phone
Step Five:After the internet sharing has a connection to the net, go to the bluetooth settings on your computer, Select you phone and connect
There you have it Tethering VIA bluetooth with no Xtra software.
here is a question.....what if i need to connect a desktop to the internet using the mogul? how do i go about that? everything is about wifi and there seems to be nothing about connecting a desktop to it.
can someone give me pretty detailed instructs on how as i have never done this before.
thanks
I use pdanet for Verizon Titan. It works very well and simple. Simply connect through usb or bluetooth and bamn..you are connected. It also does not charge you any tethering fee....but acquiring pdanet is a cost unless you can find it somewhere....
problem is I dont know how to "simply" connect through the usb. Im pretty ignorant where this stuff is concerned. is there any free ware that does what pdanet does? not that im a cheapO but hey money saved is money earned right?
