ACT 2008 (v9) sync with Mogul - Mogul, XV6800 General

Hoping for some help...
I scoured the archives, and have found nothing to help.. I am a new mogul user, and need to sync with ACT!
I had used CompanionLink in the past and thought it would be a seamless solution, but frankly...it isn't.
I just finished cleaning up 3907 recurring To-Do's duplicated by CompanionLink. I reset CompanionLink so that the PC overwrites the Mogul for To-Do's and it re-sync'd all the rogue To-Do's back again...I am going to be here all night cleaning up this database, again.
Is CompanionLink the only game in town? Tech support is anemic at best, and the only other option is to skip sync'ng To-Do's. Who else makes an app to integrate ActiveSync with ACT! ???

Activesync error

Finally I have a proper error with Active sync, and it's been going on for a couple of days now. No matter what I do it's screwed!
Problem is that when trying to sync with my home or work PC's, my JasJar freezes once the contacts have gone across - only a soft reset does anything, so obviously the rest of my syncing can't be done...
If I untick "Contacts" then the other information - Calendar, Files, Tasks, Notes, Favourites - sync perfectly.
Ok, I've tried all of the following to fix this:
a) Soft Resets
b) Removing all Partnerships from both PC's and JasJar
c) Hard Resets
d) Re-flashing the ROM
e) Completely uninstalling Activesync and reinstalling 4.1 on both PC's (including removing all registry settings, profiles, rapi.dll, etc)
f) Removing pim.vol to force a new one to be created
g) Rebuilding my Outlook .pst and mapi.dll files, and importing my contacts from a .csv file to ensure there's no rubbish in there.
Having done all that I have now moved all of my Outlook "Contacts" into another Outlook folder (called - rather unimaginatively - "Contacts 2"). I have connected via a clean Activesync install which has successfully synced all Outlook information (including my empty contacts folder).
I have then started copying each contact back into my original "Contacts" folder one by one...After copying a single contact, Activesync kicks in and synchronises with my JasJar. All good so far, second contact syncs correctly, third, fourth, etc. Then after copying in the 24th contact I get the following error message:
"Synchronisation could not be completed. Try again later.
Support code:80070008"
My question is...What the hell does that mean!? Neither Google, nor microsoft.com have come up with anything helpful on this subject, so does anyone here have any bright ideas, or maybe suggestions on a different approach I could take to sort this problem out, short of formatting my hard drives!?!
get the latest activesync 4.1 maybe??
sorry didn,t read the post good 8)
Hey Sub69,
This is definately a funny error and one which I think might only be solved with a ROM update, not the same ROM you have but a new one of a different version.
It appears you are the only one with such a problem as there are no others mentioning anything so strange. The fact you can sync some items shows it's not a connection issue. But to be sure check that you have followed this http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx and have all PORTS open?
Also you hint at 'e' that you have 2 PC's? Is this corrent and if so what are the OS's on them? And when you get to the 24th contact does it fail no matter who the 24th contact is?
Gavin.

From your description, it sounds like corruption in the contacts records.
1) By "rebuilding", are you saying that you created a totally new .PST file, before importing data from the .csv file?
2) Did you also check (and repair) the .PST with ScanPST.exe. Typically you'll find it in the path:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033\"
last part will change depending upon the language.
3) As GavinN said, would be interested in knowing if your 24th contact is always the same one, and what happens if you manually create the 24th contact rather than copying it.
4) what happens if you export just the contacts and then import those into a new profile (new .PST file). Can somebody else correctly import and sync with those contacts?
Well, I tried the whole process again, and it allowed me to gt past the 24th contact, so it's not specifically a problem with that contact. In fact, if I reset my device, delete all partnerships, and connect again, it will sync those contacts straight away with no problems. I can then start copying the next lot, one by one, from "Contacts 2" to Contacts, and it'll sync them to my Jasjar, before giving the same error down near the 50th contact. I can then do the same thing again, etc, etc. So I now actually have all of my contacts on my phone. Not the most elegant of solutions, and there's clearly something quite wrong, but it'll do for the weekend, until I can be bothered to figure out something more permanent.
I have a second problem now, in that my Calendar items keep disappearing from my JasJar for no apparent reason. They sync fine, as I mentioned earlier, but if I leave Activesync connected, it kicks in about five minutes after the initial sync, and removes all calendar items, whether they have been entered on the PC or the device. This is clearly getting ridiculous! I'm going to have to put a bit of time and thought into this, but it'll probably have to wait until Monday, otherwise I'll be in trouble with the wife for wasting a weekend!
BTW, I did scan the .pst, when that didn't work I created a new one. Extracting the contacts to .csv and importing them alone into a new .pst before syncing gives the same error. I am now using the latest version of ActiveSync 4.1, although I was previously using AS 4.0 when this problem started. And I'm 99.9% certain that I completely removed absolutely everything AS related in between the two versions.
I think my next plan is going to have to be to completely erase all data, and input it all manually into a fresh .pst. Can't see why this would be any different from importing it from a .csv, but I'm rapidly running out of ideas. The most annoying thing is that this randomly happened in the only week since owning my JasJar where I haven't installed or uninstalled ANY software, changed a setting, or anything! Just as it was all pretty much perfect, look what goes and happens!
Ok, I now feel like a complete idiot, but at least I know what the problem was.
Smartfilter 1.3 is a fantastic piece of software, but it appears that if you keep it running in the background while trying to sync, then your sync won't work (obviously something to do with the way that it loads the contacts)
I could have sworn this was one of the first things I'd tried when I started having this problem, but obviously not...
In case anyone else comes across this problem, here's your answer...At least now you won't have to reset and reflash your device a hundred million times, and destroy / rebuild Outlook and ActiveSync like I did
I'm using smartfilter 1.3 & didn't face that problem while syncing, but mine is Dopod 900. Maybe because of different ROM... just guessing...
I take it back.....I spoke too soon. It synced once, now it's doing the same thing again.
Aaaaaaaaaaargh! I've even flashed the latest O2 ROM to my JasJar out of desperation, and it's still doing the same thing! This would be funny if it wasn't so frustrating. It was all working perfectly until last week...Why me!?
I've had the same problem once i think. I dont remember what I did that time to get the same error code you posted though. But I restarted my pc and I was able to sync again. I hope i wont face that same problem again... Goodluck...hope you can sync soon...
Well, I can now sync...I'm still having the same problem when there are a few changes (~25+) to sync accross in one go, but if I kill all running processes with "pocket task manager" and remove all plugins from my today screen, it works flawlessly.
So, it's still not back to normal, but it'll do for now...
Just to wrap this up:
I exported my e-mail to a new pst file, and everything else to .csv,
Opened the csv's in Excel to get rid of any extraneous data,
Started again with a blank pst file on my Win2K machine and imported everything to it,
Synced everything to my JasJar,
Started again with a blank pst file on my WinXP machine,
Synced everything from my JasJar to my XP machine,
All ok now.
Edit: Wow, this is an old post! People are still having very similar problems in the Kaiser forum though, and the solution is still the same. So just wanted to say, if you searched and found this as an answer, don't discount it just because of the age!
i know this is old but i had the same problem, i fixed the problem by doing the following steps
START -> SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -> MEMORY -> RUNNING PROGRAMS -> STOP ALL
did active sync again and it worked fine.
my device is an IMATE Kjam, running the MR CLEAN ROM, 2.3 i think,
hope this helps someone.
Cheers
Connecting to Activesync but not able to Sync
Hi,
I am having a strange problem with Active Sync.
When I plug in my mobile with USB and use active sync. it does not synchornise.
I have tried all the options liek chaning schedule, changing the settings and diabling advanced network functionality still I am not able to make the diamond synchronise.
Finally, I download the active sync. 4.5 even then my problem remains the same.
It always shows the message "connected" and fails to synchronise.
Second, i tried copying music files to my diamond and it did not ask for any conversion to mobile format which was not the case before
thanks for any help..

Goodlink on TyTn

Post #1 for me on this forum...here it goes:
First: I searched. I scoured. I actually read all the titles of all the posts on the 12 pages of this Tytn board to look for the answer to this question, so I'm feeling pretty good about not getting flamed. That said I am new to WM5 so forgive me if I'm asking a dumb question (usually that disclaimer precedes a dumb question).
Does the Goodlink software work on a Tytn? If I buy the Tytn and it doesn't work, I will have a $750 paperweight until Cingular gets around to releasing the device with a ROM with Goodlink pre-installed, whenever that's supposed to happen. I'm currently using a Treo 650 and Good basicly takes over all of the email functions and the buttons on the device so I imagine there has to be some hardware configuration that needs to be worked out. Since Good comes pre-loaded on the 8125 (and will probably come pre-loaded on the 8525), I know HTC devices work with it, but I need to be 100% sure it will work on the Tytn before I buy. I've never used WM5 so I don't know if Good has to be launched separately from Outlook to separate Goodlink from my pop email accounts. In that respect, I'm a total newbie.
btw- I HAVE to use Goodlink. My admins wont allow anything else and quite frankly I don't think we're running the latest version of Exchange to get direct push, and my cheap company will take 2 yrs to upgrade to it anyway once I suggest it. Like it or not, Goodlink is it for me.
It would be really cool if I could get a very straight forward answer to this question and preferably someone who 100% knows, as opposed to "I think so' or 'theoretically, it 'should'. The answer to this question will drive a $750 decision and that's a lot of moolah for a guy like me. Is anyone out there using Goodlink on their Tytn, or can download it from get.good.com to see if it works?
Your help and expertise is very much appreciated.
Respectfully,
MBN
It is Windows Mobile 5 so it should support it no problem at all. Just to be on the safe side though, I just got my TYTN today and hope to have GoodLink installed on it later today. I will let you know.
Joe
Thanks, Joe! It would be really helpful if you could post the results of your Goodlink install on your new Tytn asap. Also, if you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase the Tytn, and what model version did you get?
Looking forward to a positive reply so I can order one myself tomorrow! This truly looks like the device I've been waiting a few years for.
Thanks,
Michael
I have GoodLink installed on my JasJam and it seems to work exactly as it did with my JasJar. It is little buggy and not as reliable as I would like but it does do the job if you can live with the bugs.
I don't like the way GoodLink took over and make it difficult to have a clean uninstall process. I have been running it for a few days but I going to hard reset my device and install another software.
Also, GoodLink would be better if you could install it on a SD card.
Good luck,
Yep - I installed it and it worked fine. Two things: It needs to be a fresh install (no other apps) when you install, and it also needs to be installed to main memory (even the installer itself).
Now, the downside is that it disables ActiveSync. I had hoped that I'd be able to use Goodlink for my personal email, and continue to use activesync for my corporate mail account, but sadly not. I had to uninstall.
OK, so I installed GoodLink yesterday and here are my results and more info.
First off, I purchased an HTC TyTN Pro from NetworkingRus.com and this was my first purchase from them. Overall, I was very impressed. It was about the cheapest I could find it in the U.S. IN addition, shipping was LIGHTNING fast. I placed the order and 30 minutes later there was an e-mail that the item was ready for shipping. I was really impressed.
Second, I am using the default HTC ROM with the 7/22/06 date. It has been rock solid so far me, knock on wood. I run a pretty lean ship though.
SPB Pocket Plus
"" Weather (w/weather channel template)
"" Backup (Although I have to buy a new mini card)
GoodLink
So I installed GoodLink yesterday and low and behold, everything appears to be working just fine. I was previously using a Cingular 8125, but I wanted to run Mobile SQL and the 8125 doesn't have enough horsepower. I am hoping the TyTN will and so far it does. GoodLink has had issues from time to time in the past, but so far with the TyTN everything has been good, well for almost 24 hours.
The design of the TyTN is great. I have not had to remap keys so far, there are TONS of keys for me to use, and non so far I have not needed. I could do without the camera, but so far this thing is great.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Security is the reason why Goodlink must be installed to main memory. specifically when it comes to remote wipe. Since Goodlink is desgined for the enterprise it must have remote wipe feature. If app was installed to SD card and card was removed, remote wipe would be useless.
Also want to note Activesync and Goodlink should work fine together. Just use good for corp data and activesync for personal pop account. thats how I have it configured and its working fine.
Cheers
I've been using goodlink 4.8.1.14 for about a month without any major issues.
A hard reset of the device was required before it would install/sync successfully. In addition, I didn't activesync the tytn until after goodlink was installed and working correctly.
There are a few minor annoyances that I've encountered.
+Only some of the internal addressbook links have been set to goodlink. (i.e. sms, incoming call resolution, etc). This means I need to maintain both an outlook and goodlink directories
+Goodlink occasionally looses the ability to sync and a soft reset is required.
+There doesn't seem to be a way to exit goodlink. You can enter debug mode by typing 'DEBUG', but no command seems to fully exit the app.
Does anyone know of a site that contains goodlink tweaks or hacks? I've google'd around but haven't found anything yet.

why waste your time with Goodlink?? Emoze is free
And does all that and more, inlcuding syncing active sync etc.

Anyone know of a site like this that contains Goodlink tweaks and hacks? I agree, the biggest pain with Goodlink is that some of the phones functions specifically regarding contacts do not pull from the GL contacts db. It would be great if I could get my outlook to pull in info from my GL contacts...
Cingular 8525 and Good Link
Installed goodlink on the Cingular 8525 (aka Hermes) yesterday. Am really unhappy with the way this software takes over my contacts and calendar files. I run Pocket Informant, and would like for this to remain my default PIM just like I told it too. As things are right now, I usually get the Good contacts and Good calendar shown even when using apps like the phone.
If anyone here knows of an easy way to disable this, please let me know. I've found several postings about ways to do it on a Palm Treo -- including a cryptic on on the Good www site, but nothing about Windows Mobile 5.
Thanks
Use Cingular XPressmail if you just want to have push email from work. However, you need to have the client running on your work desktop.
ON my setup, I setup a VMWARE WinXP guest OS that connect to my office exchange via VPN and have the XPressmail running to push email to my 8525. The host OS still have it's own network connectivity to the Internet, online games, etc.

Lanwarrior-
Many people have no choice on the method of push email coming from work, including myself. I don't have rights to run anything directly from our Exchange server and my IT admins frequently run sw updates to my office pc at night which shuts down my pc and reboots. I work at a bank and they're nuts about security so I'm a little bit of a slave to whatever my CIO wants us to use for email and do not have admin access to make any changes to it.
Does anyone know of a Goodlink developers forum such as this one where registry tweaks are listed? There are so many little things I'd like to change about the Goodlink software.
Thanks,

Can you connect to your work email remotely via VPN? If yes, try to setup your home machine with the VPN software and Outlook configured with the Exchange setting. Then run the machine 24x7.
Does your bank allow Goodlink email connectivity? If yes, maybe you can talk to the IT admin.
Don't know enough about programing to know how to do this...but I know there has to be a way ... since I have the new Cingular ROM installed on my 8525 and when I re-installed Goodlink, mysteriously the linking between my good contacts and the dialer disappeard, and now, when I am in the dialer and hit "contacts", it links back to the regular contacts folder. Not sure why this is...

I've had GoodLink on my 8525 and 8125 before that for a total of about a year.
There are very few hacks available. I currently do a few things, like sync my contacts via activesync as well as Good so that they are in both databases - for photo contacts, etc.
The most important hack though is here, how to remove a forced password requirement.

My wife finally got her company to install Good on her Tilt so I'm going to try and set up activesync tonight so she can have the good info and her personal pim info available. Hopefully I can get both to play well together. I'm not worried so much about the button mapping as I am of any possible conflicts between the two. I've heard some of you say it worked while others had no luck so I'm not sure what to expect. I'll post when I'm done though...

0x80883001 - AS error?

I've had this come up a couple of times - major PITA - where you have to do a manual reset of AS - loosing updated information from the previous update. I googled that error and searched for it here, but found nothing helpful and no mention of it in the forums here. Anyone have this before or know if there's a way to fix it? I'm running g4 with the tnt 4 or 1537 (?)
Anyone? Bump!
happens to me too
it's sooooo obnoxious. I havent been able to find a pattern yet. It just randomly seems to give me that error. I'm using the htc kaiser w/ wm6. i do sync my pda between my laptop and my desktop. I've done that before with my htc blue angel and never had any problems with it.
it seems to happen at least once a week. the annoying part about it for me is that I have to delete all of my calendar items, contacts, and tasks on my laptop's outlook so I can sync them.
I don't have that problem anymore - and not sure why. I've switched roms so many times I think it might have been related to the rom - or maybe even the dst updates.
Work around
According some microsoft posts (users, nothing official) this is caused by syncing email containing sub-folders. I haven't tested other than to stop syncing emails. It works fine if I don't sync Emails.
Good luck!
I've seen a lot of ActiveSync errors (I hope that's what you're talking about, or I'm going to sound very off-topic). Use DotFred's Task Manager to remove all duplicate notifications from your device. 9 of 10 times, this will resolve ActiveSync errors.
I bet you're right. I think it has something to do with snoozing reminders on the pda and the pc and them getting out of sync...
Solved... no
I red that if you dont sync email it will work - i tried:
While geting errormessage i vent to activ sync and disabled syncing of mail. After that i start synking. This sync ended up doing a resync, wich means tatt all voice commands and keyboard shortcuts went directly in toilet.
I will keep this setting for a while and se of error comes back.
Please keep positing possible solutions, this sync error is SO frustrating
its the same with me here...
it does anoy me so bloody much...
i will deselect email as well. lets see
resync everything again, cvause something on the server has changed... thats always the message...

Help ~ Can't Sync Contacts, Calendar, Tasks or Notes

Help!
I am only a wanna-be techie! I had the 6600 then the 6700 and upgraded to the Mogul when it was released this summer.
I had an issue with it so insurance replaced it. So I am syncing my just recieved unit and it won't sync my Contacts, Calendar, Notes or Tasks. My previous unit was sync to my laptop and I expected to plug in the new unit and just sync all my old info.
It will sync Favorites, Files & Media. When I try to click the Contacts and such in my OPTIONS I get an error message and it says I need to "install and run outlook". I have Windows XP on my laptop and I have Outlook Express but I don't use it. I tried opening it and it didn't help.
If my previous Mogul worked just plugging it in shouldn't this one?
How do I fix this? I am quite perplexed and in need of my contacts and calendar!
Try runnig Office Repair. That did it for me once.
I think I tried that ~ I went to Microsoft site and downloaded what I thought was OFFICE REPAIR but when I run it, it wants to know exactly WHAT I want to repair?!?
Any other ideas?!?

If you still have your contacts in Outlook Express, try this: http://www.syncdata.it/syncexpress.html
It shareware but you get 30 days to 'evaluate' it and by then you should have your data in place and backing it up with something like this to your card should you need to reinstall your contacts and other data: http://www.freewareppc.com/database/pimbackup.shtml
Hope this helps!

Active Sync Problem 86000107

Hi
I guess a few of you are already faced the known bug of 86000107, while synch. with 2 PC.
I faced that problem after flashing HTC Touch Cruise, a few weeks ago with the HTC Pro and now with the XPERIA.
I contacted HTC, they confirmed the issue, "we are working on that", I contacted MS, they said " we have an AKU 1.2 patch, available for ..." .- but still - all Windows Mobile 6.1 phone (at least I saw) are not able to sychronize with 2 PC.
At pda.net (http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1117) its written that the AKU 1.2 its inlcuded (IT'S NOT!).
(2 PC means; 2 x WinXP Prof all fixes and SPs installed, 1 with Outlook 2007, 1 with Outlook 2002 at work).
I tried all work arounds, mentioned in several forums (new profile, pst check, etc.) but no changes.
What about you all guys, how are you handling this, or do you just synch with 1 PC?
All professionals Smartphones are not professional if you can't synch. in a propper way to 2 PC (which is standard since windows mobile 2003).
By the way: I gave all devices back to my shop, moved back to my good boy, called SDA with WM2003, synching within 5 min. about 3.500 contacts and closed to 4000 calendar entries without probs, what a benchmark... never reached by WM2005, 6 or 6.1.
Hoping, anyone can give me a helping hand on that, with a proofen tests.
Maybe someoen of you has a direct link to SE or MS, how they fixing the big bug.
Cheers
...
Remove sync items and re-add them.
I got this error too. Everytime I solved the problem by removing all Sync Items (Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, etc.), then re-add one by one. It'll sync again with the PC your PDA connecting to. But then if you want to sync with another PC, you have to do that again.
I accepted that way because I mostly sync with my laptop, and when going to my desktop: remove/re-add items.
--- thanks for 1 feedback.
But still. it doesn't make sense to check/ uncheck the items every time, even if you have close to 4000 calendar and contact entries (it wil ltake every time at least 2 hours, because of deleting and synchronizing).
How many of the users with XPERIA do a synch, with 2 PCs?
Are you facing that problem?
Cheers

I reported this error to SE as it was affecting me quite badly. Here is their response (after going through 3 levels of support with each one telling me it's user error):
Thank you for you response.
We can confirm that the response from our back office states that this appears to be a Windows Mobile bug when synchronising over 100 entries, which has been rectified by Microsoft.
However, the fix will be in a future software release (MR2) for the Xperia X1, which should be available in mid-quarter 2 (July).

They then go on their "remove all your sync partnerships and try again" thing which I've heard from them 100 times already.
Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that this bug will be fixed by SE soon.
Did anybody test this behaviour with the new ROM R3AA?
Michael
A Solution
Hi!
In the last weeks I did lots of research and tried many things, but that sync error reoccured even when using R3AA. Now it seems I found a solution and the real source of the problem.
First of all the problem lies NOT within windows mobile, as most people think, but within ActiveSync. The reason and the solution why I believe that is that I use now another synchronization program avoiding AciveSync and guess what: Up to now there has been no error 86000107 or any other type of problem. Everything works smoothly.
For those interested, I am using the following constellation:
- Two PCs (Vista x64 SP1 and XP SP2)
- Lotus Notes 6.5 (XP) and Outlook 2007 (Vista)
- PDAsync 4 by Laplink
Should any problem occur I will report here.

... and so you also do not use the ActiveSync tool which is built in WM! The faulty part is ActiveSync of WM, not ActiveSync running on the PC!
In my case everything works perfect with AS 4.5 on my PC and an old WM5 device. The problem occurs with my X1 only! So it's definitely a bug of WM/AS of the PDA.

Yes, didn't think of that, sounds right to me. Nevertheless using PDAsync is a working alternative to ActiveSync and on the bottom line that's IMHO the only thing that counts.
