I dont have a data plan simply because theyre too expensive. I was just wondering if there is a program that can track data usage this way if I have to use it I know how many KB, MB etc is being used.

I haven't the need for this application so I haven't researched if there are free ones. I would bet there is knowing the talent found in these forums..

Unfortunately NOT any of this programs can count data SEPARATELY incomming and outgoing (there is may plans counting it that way).
I mean - you can not define a plan like this to watch your cost (you can only see the data on the chart).
Best greetings,
RA
SmaatoCost is freeware (in fact AD-enabled) and does monitor DATA cost (in and out) and phone calls & bills...

The deal is to update small advertissement banners twice a month.
Can be updated while your PDA is in the craddle (and without charge...)
So, to me it's very close to a freeware, because you won't have to open your purse to use it !

This software looks great ... didn't install it though :-/ My plan is unfortunatelly not based on free peak/off-peak minutes but rather on spending money (I have $xxx monthly included in my bill).
Any suggestions for this sort of tariff?

I think you can't have all the work done with it (i.e. calculate the amount that I have spent based on the time and day of the day that I've used, excluding the free calls and the best-pal calls). It just shows you how many minutes you have used.
There is a shareware that can do that, forgot its name. I didn't install it because it doesn't seems to work on my phone with WM5
actually, since i installed it on my kjam, i noticed it refreshing the today screen every 2 seconds, which i couldn't find a way to change it, therefor i removed it from my system.

That's true ... it's almost impossible to set it up so that it fits your plan... I remember that on Symbian phone I had program Extended Log from Psiloc which was customizable in any possible way, very very good and well thought piece of software! Unfortunatelly for PocketPC Phone Edition I couldn't find anything close to it :-(

Ok, so since T-Mobile and Cingular (here in America) want to ban the use of AIM 2.0 on the Pocket PC, and instead, use their service (which charges 10cents an IM), I was wondering if anyone has worked on a hack to fix this.
Basically, both companies have done something to the software, in which when AIM is installed, it will not allow you to sign on. Please note... I am NOT looking for a replacement suggestion for AIM, I am looking for the AIM program itself. There has to be SOME sort of way around this tweak, and I am truly hoping one of the many genius minds that browse this forum would be so kind enough as to help.
do you some sort of error or it just doesnt send
have you tried agile..? it has all the instant messengers
Hello!
This is what I use, and I don't seem to get 10 cents a IM.
Just unzip the cab and transfer it to your device and install!
*Edit* I am in the USA also, just so ya'know.
Agile messenger would be your best bet.
It acts a service and send text messages to your phone instead of the actually message. Just as long as you have a text plan you should be fine.
I prefer Verichat to Agile. The only draw for Agile right now is that it's free, but it's beta. The beta version of Agile likes to crash a lot. Verichat is on th expensive side, but I think it's worth it.
Go here, aol.co.uk and download the aim version for mobile. It's free as compared to installing the EXACT SAME VERSION from the U.S. aol.com which they want $19.99 for. The installer has capabilities for installing on a wide range of pocket pc's, as well as ones with MIPS and ARM processors.
The link once again is aol.co.uk
Good luck!
They charge $20 for that chunk of crap?!? That thing barely functioned under 2003 3 years ago.

i thought agile uses internet?
I was under that impression also. Then I read around on the internet and people were saying that it does indeed act as a gateway to thier servers and sens txt messages back and forth.
Now after your reply and I checked to make sure, I'm finding both answers...So I'm not sure anymore.

Is the start bar inverted to get it to work here?
Because I remember trying aim before and the thing wouldn't work right but the start bar wasn't on the bottom like this one.
Is it hacked or something?

My son and I both use Agile on our 8125's with a data plan. Agile useage goes against the kb/data, NOT the text messaging. You have to be connected to the internet to use Agile -- either through WiFi or GPRS.
We've NEVER been charged for text messaging using Agile.
Great! I can cancle my text message plan.

There is but it won't work on WM5...
Unless some one can hack it like that above AIM program to move the WM5 start bar to the bottom when the program is active.
Let me break it down for you gentlemen...
Basically what's been happening (here in the east coast of the US at least) is Pocket PC phones have been becoming increasingly more powerful. Obviously, T-Mobile and Cingular are no dummies to waves, so they started to release some of their own. But in an attempt to garner more money, they've been releasing their own versions of AIM, which basically charge the user a text per message (sent or received). In addition, they basically disabled the old AIM 2.0, which was (and still is) highly popular amongst Pocket PCs that aren't branded, or simply don't have a phone equipped in them.
That button on the button that says "Sign On"? It's not there anymore. Neither is the File or Edit menus. There's something embedded in the registry that doesn't allow the usesr to use this version of AIM... which is why I created this topic to begin with.
Now as I stated originally, I wasn't looking for alternatives to AIM 2.0 on the Pocket PC... I like this version a lot. Back when I was using my unbranded i-mate Jam, I suppose I've gotten inclined to using this version more. I've tried Agile Mobile, but it is still way too buggy for me to want to use as my end-all be-all to AIM. And it's missing a lot of features I've grown used to with AIM 2.0. Other IM clients cost money for something I think should be freely distributed.
To anyone using an i-mate K-Jam, or a QTek 9100... this post simply doesn't apply to you. You picked up your phone unbranded, meaning you have no restrictions from your carrier. And I envy you because of that. But since I'm cheap and I'm getting my Cingular 8125 for $50, I'm trying to figure out some workaround to the situation. Hopefully someone can figure out a hack soon.
MightyMegit ... how certain are you that the program you posted doesn't use texts? Does it use data? I don't have a Wizard yet (hopefully within the next 24 hours), so I'm not able to test it out myself.
Anyway, thanks guys for your help, but I really want my AIM 2.0 back. I wish all you developers luck!!!
thanks for the clarification. i started using the aim 2.0 yesterday.
No wonder i noticed to menus or sign on options. What i do i select "stock quotes" or w.e and that signs me on.
It looks just like aim on pc and has aim sounds so i like the look of it. There just isnt options

Check out www.Efficasoft.com I just remembered I was using one of their applications to monitor my data usage. I checked their site quickly and they have an SMS counter. Not sure about minutes. But I only took a quick look.
Hopefully this is what you were lookin for.
naa that one is a reatil app.
Get BatteryStatus, it will count for you and is freeware.
@ Knockz , sms counter is for Smartphone and @Radimu,I think BatteryStatus is meant for battery :O
BatteryStatus - http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_BatteryStatus_XDA_Neo_WM5_iM_cs.htm
It does: SMS, Data, Minutes. It also shows battery, remaining memory on storage card & device, and more.
It works on my 8525 w/WM6.
oh yes it does count but unfortunately I can not reset it...I would like that it counts on monthly basis because I want to know how much I am being charged every month for my usage
Dig a little deeper...it actually does reset on a monthly basis. You tell it the hour and the day of the month that you want to reset and it resets the counter for you.
Only problem is that there is conflict with Sleuth255's SIPchange software and freezes up my 8525 WM6. Can't figure out why and make both programs work together. So, I opted out of the BatteryStatus program for the ability to use pocketCM keyboard. I wish I could have all the functions!
hang about a minute...
here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297775 is a program to define the default sip hope this helps, i don't get any conflicts/incompatabilities

Hi guys and gals!
First off just let me say what great help i have found through the members of this forum and i just wanted to say a collective thank you! to all the people involved in working on this phone.
My question would be if this phone has a data counter for INTERNET connections? Something that would measure upload and download and would help me estimate my costs. I have not been able to find it in the phone's original software. Has anyone developed such an application?
Much obliged.

As far as I know this happens, if the programm is unregistered. At least for me it was so.
Well, I did register it, but would not help either...
Hello Folks,
It’s been around a month since I’ve joined xda-developers and I have had a chance to get some of the best stuff for my HTC Touch Diamond from here. I think it’s time for me to return the favor and give back something to the community.
SMS Counter
For some time now I have been searching for a *FREE* application that basically can tell me how many SMSes I’ve sent. Thus, if I have a free message sending limit in my plan, I can know if I’ve exceeded it or not. Unfortunately, I could not find any. The only good application that I know currently doing this is the 'Efficasoft smartphone sms counter'. (Though, If there is such application and if I’ve missed it, someone please bring it to my attention)
And thus, I thought of making one!
Possible Features
I spent some thinking about it and I figured that I can add a few more features to make this application a bit more, well, feature rich. The next post lists the features that I have currently is my mind. Based on your suggestions/feedback, I will change the list.
Development Platform
I will be making this application in .Net Compact Framework v3.5 / C#. Thus, people wishing to use this app will need the Compact Framework installed on their devices.
Devices
At the moment I’m planning to make this only for the HTC Touch Diamond. Once the app is a success and if it has a good demand, I can plan on porting it to other devices as well.
Pricing
If everything goes as planned and if this application sees the light of the day, it will be available for everyone to download for FREE, ALWAYS!
So my fellow community members, please think about this and give me your valuable feedback. I want to know your suggestions, your ideas. Do we really need this app in the first place? Is there something better already available? If we need it, how can we make it acceptable to a wider range of audience? Do we add more features or do we just put the most basic features? Lot of questions and your answers are welcome.
Thank you!
[CONCEPT] SMS Counter - Possible Features
Below are the possible features that I am currently thinking of implementing:
Determine number of sent and received messages.
Filter options: Within a date range, to/from specific person, etc.
Trends: Whom I’m messaging most and who is messaging me the most.
Cost calculation based on plan but to be override-able for any given month.
Suggestions welcome!
there is hs++ wich, among many others, have option of counting sent and recived mesages
but i like your idea
to list of features i`d suggest to add
autoresponse (to contacts from adress book when i cannot answer or read message or recive call)
setting message to send at precise time
PowerSMS is one such software. But it is not a freeware.
www.trinketsoftware.com
of course i know PowerSMS
it also has a lot more cool features
but, as you mentioned, it`s not freeware

And it has it's own limitations too. For e.g. I would prefer a graphical chart when I'm seeing statistics, this is something which I would like to incorporate in my own app.
Yet, it seems the response for this is pretty much zero and people are not very keen to have this application.
I like the Idea of the statistics (with chart! ) sounds funny to know who gets the most sms from me (and to see who don't linke me and never or seldom sends me sms back )
I think the features are okay for now keep it as simple as possible
is it going to work in the background ? i mean consume memory and cpu power all time.
i am looking for a call time and sms counter, something simple that i can reset every month (maybe even with an option to reset automatically at a given date each month).
it was built in with my sony erricson T650 and maybe any other phone. but nothing simple at the diamond (havnt seen any sms counter built in).

No, it's not going to work in the background, the user will have the option to manually update stats after he starts the program or they will be calculated automatically when the program starts; whichever the user prefers.
Yes, I can add the option of resetting the stats manually or on a date specified by user, nice suggestions ice2k2, thanks.

That sounds good, just calculate when the user is ready to use, not always in the background more free Ram on our Diamonds! The reset on a specified date is also a really nice idea, yes!
Whats about a "constant" statistic, that shows the statistic from begining, and we can seperate in to monthly? So we can see in wich month we texted the most? And we could use the overall stats to calculate an wich (week)day we send the most sms

You mean maitaining the statistics cumulatively? I don't see how that's possible with the 'reset' option. When a users resets the data, all previous stats are lost and that's its exact purpose. Though, feell free to correct me if i'm wrong and explain what you want in detail, possibly with an example. Thanks,

Like in the car. you have a constant counter of your km/miles, and a "small" one for the time you go to refuel.
so lets say, I want to know how many sms I send since I load my prepaid card (but also a constant statistic )
small counter/reset function = time since reload the prepaid-card / refuel the car
background (full)statistic = overalltime statistic with monts/(week)day stats / km/miles since you bought the car
hope thats make my sugesstion clear

I think its simple, just use two counters: one is "resetable" the other is not.
i guess it means double the data and double the reading/writing cycles but im sure there is a way to optimise it with simple procedure.
