WM6 Media Player .wav error - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi all,
Anyone has come across an issue that WM6 Media Player can't play certain .wav files? How can fix this bug (if it is a bug)?. I have an answering service and they send my messages to my phone by email in .wav file and I can't open it with WM6 Media player error:Unrecognized file type. Any suggestions?
Thanx,
Genek

No one really has a clue?

Have you pulled the files from the phone and tried to play them on the computer?
Remember, .wav is just a 'container' for a sound file, the actual encoding could be just about anything (PCM, MP3, MPEG2 Audio, etc).

WM6 and .WAV
.WAV is not a native windows file. For this reason you are unable to play them on and WM PPC. You need to download either a player that will decode WAV or install a Codec to play .WAV files. .WMA is the default windows audio file.
Pain I know - but I think it has something to do with MS not wanting to pay for licensing for .wav playback.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong =)

Phone does not ring properly anymore

Hi
I have an xda 2.
Ever since I installed/uninstalled winamp beta it, my phone will not play wav files anymore. I have tried adjusting the wav file assocation in pocket tweak however as windows media player does not play this, what does?
Is there a quick fix to restore this setting?
Has anyone else encountered this before?
Stevo
no i've used both versions of the winampaq and i never noticed any wav issues
will it not play wav at all ?
will it not start windows mediaplayer when you doubleclick on wav files ?
will windows mediaplayer not play wav any more ?
No it will not play wav at all. Btw I don't think windows media player plays wavs at all or am I wrong?
Lets forget what program messed up the settings. I just need to know how to restore the phone or system as the default wav player.
What application is normally responsible?
if it cant play wav files in sounds and notifications in systems
then i think there is more amiss then just a associating issue
because it should not depend on that
if you open up your power tweak (assuming you have it installed) can you tell me what application is associated with "wav" file type.

Playing GSM compressed WAV files?

My voicemail-emails have attached GSM compressed wav files.
Of course that's good because uncompressed files would be much too large, but how can I playback those files?
Can I somehow download additional wav codecs for the pocketpc or is there a good player which can do it?
You only get those MP3 file players and nothing else...
I've tried BetaPlayer (pretty good divx player) which supports wav files, and I get the message "Audio Codec not found".
Problem solved
I just noticed that the WAV file was added to my pocket outlook notes since I put it in the My documents folder.
It can be played as an outlook note.
However, strange that pocket windows media player and other players don't support it.
windows media player dont support any non ms format apart from mp3
and this goes for both audio and video
dont know the format so i cant help i would prob search around for as many players i could using google looking for that feature if i were you
otherwise i suppose you can find a converter for the pc wihtout too much problems

Apache Ring Tones

How do I install ring tones on the Apache.
drop them in the windows/rings folder.
~mike
One thing is that if you have installed an mp3 player other than the default Windows Media, then you will not be able to use mp3s for your ringtones. You can always just re-sample the wav files.
I have installed TCPMP and can use mp3s as ringtones.....so I dunno what ur talkin bout.
Associate or Disassociate...that is the question..

I think the problem is that if you install 3rd party appl MP3 player and allow it to be associated with MP3's specifically, then Windows & phone rings will no longer automatically be associated with MP3's. This happened to me using PocketMusic, where on installation it offered to be associated with all these different formats. I thought 'Yeah Great' why not? Afterwards none of my MP3 Ringtones worked until I found this out.
So try disasociating all MP3's from your media player if you want Windows to recognise it for Ringtones. The downside is that in order to play your MP3's through your chosen MP3 player, you will have to 'File/open' (or something similiar) from within the player itself. Not a major problem, unless you like to select your MP3s through File Explorer, in which case you would have to associate your chosen file-type (MP3) from within the options menu of your 3rd party player.
Same goes for TCPMP and WMP10. If you associate .wmv or .wma in TCPMP and then usually select single tunes/vids through file explorer, then WMP10 will no longer be the default player as you associated that file type to another program!
Sorry bout the long post but It frustrated me to no end when I first got my WM device. Hope it helps.

mp3's not working as ringtones

I have created some ringtones with Vito ringtone editor but they're not working.
Do I have to activate the phone to use mp3's or something?
Any advice is appreciated
Thanks, Dean
just put mp3 in the dir /windows/rings
be sure to have windows media player as the default player for mp3 files, then put your ringtones in My Ringtones in My Documents folder either on Main Memory or in storage card.

I think the problem is that I have core player as the deafault player. Now the thing is, I've just spent 1/2 hour looking through menus and cant seem to return Windows media player as the default. Sounds basic but I cant find it - can anyone help here?
Do I just uncheck all of the file associations in core player ?
Thanks, Dean
yup, just uncheck the tick mark in front of mp3 in core player, and don't let any other audio player take the association of mp3 files. When no player is associated to mp3 files, then media player is the default player.
I found this post online where people have the same problem as me:
http://www.futurehardware.in/568121.htm
Surely I can make windows media the default player without resorting to a hard reset.
Can anyone help with this please?
Cheers, Dean

I tried that but it didnt work. I also have uninstalled core to see if it helps but I cant make windows the default again (see the other post and link I just made)
i've solved with wma, i converted mp3 to wma and then i moved converted files to folder Windows/Rings.

I've been thinking along those lines too.
Any recommendations for software to do the conversion?

codec error with email wav attachments

my 8525 (hermes) with wm6 played wav voicemail attachments from my phone provider (optimum voice) fine until recently. now media player doesnt recognize the wav file, pocket player just sits there, tcpmp says it does not play codec 0031 and so on.
optimum claims they have not changed the coding on the email attachments.
i have no problem playing these files on my desktop or laptop with windows media player 10 and or 11.
any ideas how I can fix this????
I am having the same exact problem. Did you find a solution to this?
-Michael
a wav can be many things
i would look in properties on the pc
as to what codec the wav is pcm is the base codec of
wavs so it's not likely to be that
been a while since i have been here. yes i found a solution. it was to hardreset and then restore. it worked fine for a long time, then i used a program and "cleaned" my registry and since then it has not worked. the prior solution did not work either since my backups postdated the error creation (i guess). so i am again looking for a solution that i suspect will be a registry fix. anyone got any ideas? if it plays and then doesnt play, a full restore it plays again etc, it cannot be due to specific wav characteristics or encoding. i has to be some file corruption (i suspect to the wav itself either by changing it since no program will play it, or by not doing some additional processing during saving)
