Has anyone had this happen? I get no rings, no beeps, no speakerphone audio at all. Volume settings are all up, I've been through 2 rom reflashes with VP3G and K's roms and still get nothing from the external speaker.
Everything else is perfectly fine - when a call comes in, I can see it on-screen, it will vibrate if it's set to do so, but it will not under any circumstances ring or otherwise make any noise out of the external speaker.

I want to be able to play sounds through the normal speaker, even though a headset is attached to the device (Blue Angel, in this case).
(The built-in telephone does this with its ring tones when a headset is attached.)
Only one WaveOut device is shown as present.
Anyone has a solution, or an idea?
nobody knows anything about this?
there's physical switch that disables the speaker after you plug in the earphones jack. its PHYSICAL, no amount of code will overcome this.
hey!!.. screw the last post. I managed to do what you wanted.
speaker + headset both rings, even when headset is connected... let me fix the code, then I will get back to you... ok
I'm waiting patiently!
Hi esbjorn,
din want to keep you waiting. but i think i finally found out exactly is going on.
there's only 1 device. however, the device enables both speaker and headset WHEN THERE'S AN INCOMING CALL, which you already know. Whether its hardware or software, I have yet to determine it.
I had a lot of code around and got confused. sorry if I gave you any false hope.
anyway, this is my hypothesis, windows has code to control only this 1 waveout device. when a call comes in, it decreases the volume of all sounds being played. it then plays the ringtone at a volume based on its registry. (try changing the attentuation in SoundCategories->Ring) it gives the effect (a loud ringtone and soft background audio) that there are actually 2 waveOut devices when there's only 1.
I will be working on it further, let me know if you make progress too.
I was wondering...if anyone hears a clicking sound when the other party on the line is loud. This is when the phone is in normal mode ie no speaker phone or headset.
Brand new phone, but i feel like its the cone of the speaker hitting the housing or something. I guess it could be a popping sound but is more like a clicking sound and i have to turn the volume down and it goes away. Certain letter anounciations seem to cause this.
maybe i should just get a headset!
is there any way to change this? i use my headset to listen to tunes while @ work and the gym, and the whole idea is to eliminate noise coming from the phone (and my desk!)
however, to listen to music you need to turn the sound on - but when you do, and you receive an incoming call, the ringer sound comes right from the phones speakerphone externally. when i get texts it stays within my ears (im pretty sure)
i know you could drop the phone call volume to 0 but what would that do? would you not hear it at all then, even in the headset? would the music even stop playing to signify an incoming call or would it keep playing since theres no need to output any other sound (the ringer)
anyone have a fix or an idea?
same issue in htc athena advantage x7501
real pain in the neck, since it doesn't vibrate.
and with the bluetooth, you solve that problem, but you still can't have any system sounds through the bluetooth headset.
this really wasn't well thought through.
any ideas?
a patch soon?
help?
Hi,
I have unusual problem with my motorola defy earpiece (or at least i think it's that). Bought it used, so don't know how it was before...
During calls the volume of earpiece speaker is very low, practically unusable unless you are using phone in completely silent environment. The weird thing is tho, when i turn the phone around and listen closely on the back side the volume is actually a bit higher - seems like in call sound is coming from big phone speaker on the back, just very silenty... When turned to loudspeaker mode during call - everything works as intended, i can hear loud voice on phone's back speaker. I know that people are having problems with defy's earpiece not working at all, but it's not like that for me. It actually seems that both speakers (earpiece and main speaker) are working during calls just on very low volume. No luck searching for help on internet, doesn't seem that anyone had this happen... Problem egsisted with stock ROM, so i installed CM 7.2 - nothing changed. Volume buttons work, but even max volume is just too low. Wonder if that could be software problem or the hardware is somehow ruined? Any ideas? Don't know where to turn - i'm intending to take phone apart and see what's going on in there, no previous experience so please stop me
I just got my defy today and have exactly the same problem. I flashed cm 7.2
My phone began having this weird sound issue. I can play music through the headphone jack, but not the speaker. However alerts come through the speaker. Also, my ear piece and microphone stopped working. However when I turn on the speaker I can hear the other party clearly they just can't hear me well. I have to yell into my phone.
Anyone else having these issues? I've already flashed a new rom and am entirely updated.
Have you tried hard reset? I think it's hold the power button down for 30 seconds
