As the title says...
I tried searching but since most of the words are short it pulled up nothing of relevance in 2 pages of results. Is it just a case of Verizon picking a random size or can the phone read/access 8gb cards?
Was wondering the same thing myself and just did a search. Found this post saying an 8GB worked:

I have 2.3.1 and 8gb sandisk that works flawlessly. You may need to install the cab below.
http://www.xda-zone.de/useraction.p...=1075&sessid=2167847d5ace50b6a04aeb6dd21e3c42
I have been using a 6gb on my Titan with no problems. I don't need to install any additional software. It worked on the stock ROM (2.09) and all of DCDs ROMs that i have tried.
I have the 3.16 gps rom and all I had to do was pop in my shiney new sandisk 8gb card and it has worked without a hickup. Didn't have to install a thing. I will say that my stock rom would not recognize past 4gb.
I have been using an 8Gb card for two months now and it works great!
But I did have to patch the stock ROM with the SDHC patch.
I believe in all of DCD and No2chem's roms this patch has been included already so you shouldn't need it with those.
I have been using a 8gb SDHC and it works great without installing anything extra... the only issue I have is when using the Sprint Music program, it doesnt read the music files, I get an "Error M505: Unable to Red Memory Card"
If anyone knows how to fix this... let me know... Thanks

Just bought a 6GB SDHC (Sandisk) and it didn't work right away. I found this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1615083#post1615083) and installed the sdhc.777.cab file.
After soft-reset, the card works well. As soon as I close the phone and open it again, card stops working. Anyone know of a work-around?
that sounds strange ever since WM6 is SDHC compliant. did you try a 4GIG card with no problems?
Thing is I don't have a WM6 device. I have a pre-production unit with the 2.69.00 radio and I'm not sure it's okay for me to upgrade.
When I try to upgrade using the HTC images, I get "INVALID DEVICE ID".
thanks for your help.
I have looked everywhere and I have even loaded several different sdhc cab files on the phone and I still can't read a 4gb microsd. I really need the extra space. I loaded the HTC WM6 and I still cannot get the 4gb card to read. Please help. Maybe I am loading the cab files in the wrong place? I don't know. Please help.
Thanks
I read somewhere ,but cant remember in what forum, about somebody who couldnt get a 4gb card to be seen by his device and he looked in his old card and found a hidden folder called something like filestobedeleted anyway he found that when he created this folder on his 4gb card the device saw it fine.
Not sure if this will help you any but it is worth a try
Make sure you format it as fat in a card reader as well

It may depend which version of WM6 you have. As I understand things, some support SDHC some don't. My 6Gb card works fine with Schaps 4 roms, but I formatted it as FAT32, not FAT as scousemartin suggested (don't know if this makes a difference though).
Have a read through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=331463 - there are a few tips, and also post #41 has a cab file which says it fixes the SDHC issue.
just checking, did you try this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344384
worked for my Hermes WM5 with a 6GB microSD
Following on from bennyyen's excellent work in getting 8GB SDHC cards working on WM5 without breaking anything else, including the WIFI, which was the biggest problem.
I have made an install .cab file for those that want to keep with their existing WM5 rom but want full Sdhc support. We now have reports of 16GB SDHC cards being fully functional as well.
I have noticed that my AData card does go to sleep and not wake up, so has to be reinserted every now and again but I think that is just the card as it did this with WM6 (It was cheap).
Please if you try this .cab can you report back your experiences on weather it's working 100%, not working for you (please include rom details) or you have to re-insert the card from time to time. Also please add your SDHC Card details so we can see which works and which has problems.
Thanks.

PS: Please remember this is Bennyyen's work so huge thanks to him. I just packaged it for general use.
I have tested this cab with KDSkamal's fw and a generic 16GB SDHC.
Opening this in system--> memory the qtek sees all of my 16GB.
I have tried copying 4GB (all that I have free ftm) of files forth and back. Works like a charm!
Have also tried a bit of surfing over WPA, works just as well. Have not tried GPRS, but everything else looks fine so far.
Thank you PsiDOC for your work on this! (I know you might not think this is much, but it is to me)
It works! Yaay!
Many thanks for the feedback Verbato. Really nice to see that a 16GB card is working well
Please remember this is bennyyen's work. I just made the .cab file, so it is him who deserves the thanks also.

Well done! I'm more than happy with the standard WM5 ROM on my JasJar. All I (and many others) wanted was SDHC support. This is exactly what I was looking for.
I have no SDHC cards yet , but I will report back as soon as I get one.
Can you tell me if this cab can be uninstalled ("removed") in case it doesn't work?
Thanks again! And Great work!
PS: I've come across this SD_Setting cab, suggested here - "http://jay-joshi.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!851D717EDFF14CEC!3194.entry" . What do you think ?
Yes it can be removed, however you'll not want to as it works.
Re: the download on the blog. it doesn't work. It corrupts the settings.

Ok. - Thanks for checking.

PsiDOC, Bennyyen - thanks a milllion guys!!!! Tested this on PsiDOC WM5 Matrix ROM with Mymemory SDHC 8GB card - works very well. Waking up from sleep without any problems. Also tested a few of SD cards - they work OK but don't wake up from the sleep. I don't really care about SD with SDHC working just added this for completness.
PsiDOC,
I've tried to re-cook your Matrix ROM with 3 dlls SD*.dll from Bennyyen's ROM - by some reason my SDHC was not recognised with this. It does only when I install your package. Have you by any chance tried to add them into your ROM directly?
Yes I have added them but I cannot test as my USB cable seems to be damaged so I can't get the Exec to talk to the PC. I never release untested roms, hence it's still here on my PC.
Oh by the way it's only the 2 files that are needed. SDBus.dll and SDMemory.dll. Use the original SDHC.dll from my rom and it'll work if you cook the others in.
Interesting that you have SD Cards not waking up. My Kingston 1GB and SanDisk 2GB are 100% fine. Which SD Cards are you using?

Thanks - will try this evening. May be the way I'm adding them is wrong - the SDBus.dll from the Bennyyen's ROM was not in a directory (I use the HyperCore kitchen) so I placed it in the missing files folder. Will try to create a separate package tonight.

Same brand as my SDHC :-( - MyMemory (http://www.mymemory.co.uk ) 4GB SD card. Worked absolutely fine with O2 original ROM. My guess would be that it is probably due to the weirdness of the card - 4GB SD was not ever part of the SD standard.
Thanks for the help

It is not waking up in a sense that none of the folders on a card is accessible and none of the files is writeable until I re-insert the card.
My SDHC does not always wake up

I was premature to report my success with MyMemory SDHC 8GB card - http://www.mymemory.co.uk/memory/MyMemory/4GB/SDHC/Card/-/Class/4
Unlike the SD card, if the Universal turned off and on (with power button) it does work and wakes up correctly. But if left off for a while (> 15 mins) it does not wake up again with the same symptoms as usual (folders and files are not accessible) and the card has to be re-inserted. This is a major annoyance since on earlier WM5 ROMs the SD at least was working ok and waking up fine. Can somebody report what's happening with their brands of SDHC cards if left to sleep for a while?

Hello PsiDoc and ALL!
I have been looking for a SDHC driver to get my 8gb SanDisk Ultra II (Class 4) working. My phone is the Treo 700 WX with Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5.0 OS 5.1.195 (Build 14932.2.2.2).
I tried the PsiDOC.cab, but with no luck. I basically hard reset the whole phone. From that point it reads my SanDisk 2.0GB (non-SDHC) card fine, so I install the PsiDOC.cab, it reboots, then I can not see any cards. I have the 2 cards I mentioned above plus a PNY 2GB Optima Pro SD (133x), and a SanDisk 4GB Extreme III SDHC (Class 6). All of them are not recognized with PsiDoc.cab.
I do have an SDHC driver I got from somewhere that let's me see the first 4 gigs of either the Class 4 or Class 6 cards I have; but of course I would love to see it all! This SDHC.cab driver has a contains of :
Volume in drive D is MBH-CARD-1
Volume Serial Number is 1CA8-04D2
Directory of D:\SDHC\SDHC

Thanks,

Thank you MHildebrand. Sorry it doesn't work.
I thought this may be XDA Exec specific as the files are unlike any I have seen. You've confirmed my suspicions.

well done ,PsiDOC ,this patch is very usefull

Hi!
Can somebody list down those 16GB SDHC cards that work with this cab?
Anybody tested with TRANSCEND 16GB SDHC Class 6 card?
Thanks
Please report all working cards (brands, size)

For all those whoose cards worked with this patch without any wireless problems - guys please report the ROMs, brands of the cards and the sizes.
My card does not wake up properly so here's my report:
O2 XDA Exec with PsiDOC Matrix ROM,
MyMemory (http://www.mymemory.co.uk) SDHC 8GB card
Does not wake up from sleep - directories and files are not accessible.
I'm looking for a card brand that will work with this patch on my ROM

I've tested a few configurations and it appears that whether this works really depends on a ROM. I've tried this CAB with official O2 ROM and now both my cards are fine and working properly - both waking from sleep. It seems that all this has to do with the work of the SDHC.dll (secure digital host controller) since this what was different in O2 ROM.
Unfortunately, when added to PsiDOC Matrix ROM from O2 this dll breaks a lot of different things so it can't be used as is. I guess I'm stuck with the O2 ROM for now until the situation improves.
After those experiments it appears to me that SDHC implementation is hardware dependent in that sense that there might be slight differences in HTC Universal hardwares - for some reason the SDHC in the newer systems like T-Mob 3.3 ROM do not work as stable on my O2 Uni even with SD cards.
every body can test this rom:
http://218.93.115.138/d900/wm5
this verison based on official aku3.3 ROM, no standy waken up problem , no wifi broken problem, support 16G SDHC card........
or ,u can dump this ROM ,find and copy the files "sdhc.dll" "sdbus.dll" "sdmemory.dll" ,then rebuild in PsiDOC Matrix ROM.
enjoy
hi,
i have this 4GB SDHC installed on my dopod 838pro (hermes)... and have lots of software installed on it.. the problem is after "off" mode (hybernate), all installed softwares on the SD card is not readable and can not run anything.. you can browse the folders but all are empty... what i always do is i will eject and insert the sd card and all goes well again.. does any one knows the best solution for this? I searched google and i have not find this problem/solution.. thanks in advance...
a think that the maximum is 2G
I use an 8 Gb card, no problems. May be the sd card, may be the rom you are using. Try backing up the sd card then re-formatting it FAT32. Transfer everything back and re-insert. Go to "hybernate" then power back up. See if that works.
The 2nd thing to try is change your ROM.
Or try another sdhc card. It may be a faulty card.
Cheers...
i have almost the same problem (4GB Kingston microSDHC). some of the folders remain empty and i don't know why.
i've changed 3 ROMs and with the last one (official) happened just for one folder till now. anyway it seems that the official rom is far more stable than the cooked ones and everything works as it should.
is there any wm6.1 rom that can be as stable as official wm6.0?
anyway, i've seen this problem metioned by others and I don't know what the cause is: card, pda or ROM.
maybe is out there someone that can help.
@ultramag: what ROM are you using?
re
mine is also 4GB Kingston.. maybe the Kingston is the problem.. my current rom is CRC v13.3
I'm yesying the new WM 6.5 rom by section8prime8, build 21139. Seems to work fine so far but only had it on for a couple of days. No problem with sdhc though... On ANY rom I've tried....
Hello folks,
I figured I would go to the experts to get an answer to my question.
On my universal I was running Windows Mobile 6.1, I didn't really like it as the phone was unstable, so I downgraded to Tmobile Windows Mobile 5 (which is what ships on the phone) everything is running smooth (Shout out to SPB Shell 3.0 AWESOME!!!)
anyways after the downgrade which went through without incident, my SD card reader does not SD cards, I know it is not hardware because it worked fine when the device was running WM6.1.
Anyome have any ideas as to what happened?
the device simply does not recognize any size, 32MB all the way to 2GB.
I have searched and found nothing.
Anyone have an updated driver for the SDCard reader?
I have extRom installed so I can put whatever I want into EXTRom and have it install.
Crapgame
It's because native WM5 can't use SDHC (SD cards are only up to 2GB). I think you can simply install SD settings by OllieD - where you can change to Type 1 or 2. Sorry unless someone else can help, you'll have to search for it.
I think i have the same issue.
The device sometimes see the card when set to standard SD or SDHC Type-I but it's really inconsistent.
Driving me nuts.
I had a similar problem, i had to eject and reinsert the card multiple times to get it to see it. The card SEEMED fine because it would work in my pc (via usb adapter)) and digital camera with no problems. But when i tried the one from the camera in the universal it worked fine, absolutely no problems.
So I bought a new sandisk one from ebay and all has been fine since, seems like it was being picky about the original SD!
i think, the sd card is formatted fat16
you formatted with "Haret"?
Haret?
Sorry for the noob question, but what do you mean?
I have tried formatting the card fat16, fat32, NTFS
nothing works
I have even tried install SD settings by OllieD adn that did not work
according to the specs I should be able to use my 2GB Sandisk Extreme III 2.0 GB SD Card, but alas my uni just does not see it.
any other suggerstions tips?
Also does spbsoftwarehouse's backup work really well?
I want to try some other ROMS on the device and I dread having to reinstall everything and reconfigure it too.
I would much rather back the dang thing up then experiment with various ROMS and then if nothing is to my liking, put my old ROM back with all my 'stuff'.
I have similiar problem.
In the past I have changed many ROM's from Tomal and many others. WM 5, 6.1, 6.5 and never had a problem with the card.
My last ROM where everything worked was Luca15thebig. After that I wanted to go back to Tomal V8.9 and then my problem started:
I did DOC format (always do that), put Tomal's ROM - ups, no SD card (with any SD card settings).
Did some searching on the forum, found similiar problem which was solved by flashing some factory shipped i-mate ROM. Again, DOC format, flashing that ROM (it is all-in-one ROM: radio, ext-rom and operating system). Booted that system (wow, time-warp to past ), frankly I didnt expect that my 8GB SDHC will work there - and it didnt.
Again DOC format> flashing Tomal V8.9 ROM> upgrading radio (that i-mate ROM reverted it back to 1.03). After a while booted Uni with Tomal's ROM, no SD card. Tried all settings, nothing.
Tried same thing but with that new Thing V2.3 ROM (very fast and stable BTW). Same thing - no SD card in file explorer.
My card works in my laptop. I even tried to format it in laptop - and my Uni still dont see it.
My friend has an Uni and I tried that card in his device. It works (he is using Tomal V8.7 ROM). Tried his 1GB SD card in my Uni - not working in my device.
Im no specialist but i think you guys have a hardware issue with the SD port. Maybe loose or something inside. Hope thats not the case. If multiple cards using multiple Roms do not work in Uni but work anywhere else then I would have someone or myself check to make sure the SD slot is soldered properly still.
i've encounted many issues with the SD + sdhc drivers for the universal, i'llw rite up a longer post with more information later as i've had a long day.
summary: keep trying different cabs, one will eventually work. make sure its formatted FAT32. popping it in and out+softresetitng a few times may be required.
