T-Zones port forwarding ? - Networking

If using T-Zones services, you get access to only few ports. However, ports like SSL and FTP are blocked. Is it possible to use a personal proxy server to get access to all unblocked ports somehow? Just thinking of an idea.

Well mate if you are referring to using the t-zones as a free connection or hacking it then it was done and t-mobile during a big upgrade all but closed that gap. I myself have been trying for a loop hole through this as well because if they want to give me t-zones for free why not be able to utilize it fully . I do pay my cell bill every month .. lol

T-zones ssh proxy forwarding
Yes there is a way to do this.
And yes I have got this to work. Now I run skype, AIM, Remote Dektop, etc. from my T-zones EDGE connection. It is kind of slow though for things like Skype.
This is not intended to be easy, however if you spend enough time, you should be able to get it to work.
Here is the concept (For Windows XP),
Host an ssh server and a proxy server on your home computer.
I use copSSH for an ssh server (google it) and squid for windows for a proxy server (again google it and read the documentation!)
Set the ssh server to run on port 80 or port 143 (valid t-zones ports).
Set the proxy server to run on port 8118 (I just like that port number).
Use an ssh client on your windows mobile phone (such as pocketputty dev build 2007-02-28) (again, google).
Configure the ssh client to connect to your home ssh server via port 80 or 143
On the tunnel tab of pocketputty, add the ports you need to get to and direct them to localhostortno
For example, Port 8118 is my proxy server so I have tunnelled port 8118 to localhost:8118
Now I manually connect to my EDGE T-Zones connection, I run pocketputty and connect to my home server. I then login with my user credentials to my ssh server and everything validates and I get a bash shell. Now I run Skype Mobile and change it's settings to connect using an https proxy of localhost with port 8118.
You can do this with any port, such as Remote Desktop (port 3389)
then you just open Remote Desktop client on your phone and connect to the the address localhost:3389 (or localhost)
I know this is a bit much but it's not exactly a point and click process for now, so only try this if you are pretty sure you know your way around ports, ssh, and tunneling. You could always read a lot about it online if you are not. That's what I did.

One other advantage of doing it this way is that ll your activity goes down a secure encrypted tunnel and so is unsniffable.

Yes it takes a while and some resources to make this work but it can save you a lot on T-mobile's slow EDGE network.
Squid is a caching proxy which runs under linux, windows, etc. I use it to have complete encrypted web access that is cached and I use it for remote pc connections as well as windows mobile. You could also use Privoxy to have an ad and spyware filtering proxy. I do not use Squid for any other apps such as Skype or Remote Desktop.
The forum link you included is a great example of how to setup this type of connection and it's a much better description. I wish I had found it a while ago.
I can't speak for every application and its ability to select a port, however here is how Skype works. After installing Skype you have to first login to Skype using a normal internet connection such as through ActiveSync or WiFi. After Skype login completes, you open the options menu and fill in the proxy port number. Then you can disconnect and use the pocketputty method. Remote desktop is even easier, you just open a new connection and goto the address "localhostortnumber".

Way beyond me. I wish I understood because this sounds like exactly what I have been looking for.

Sounds wonderful ................
Now can you please add some pictures and make a sweet how-to . I am sure many on the site will be happy to see your work . And I for one an very interested in it.

i don't know what kind of application you use on your pocket. But if your applications (like skype, fetchmail ) are able to use a socket server, you can go through easily via restricted ports of your provider.
I installed a socks server listening on an opened port, so now i can use skype and read my mails via this server.
Socks server :
With linux install : "dante"
With XP I don't know, but you can use "socksproxy" for tests (found on xda...). Take care this software is not secure ( or intall a DMZ with a firewall)...

activesync server sync help!!!!

Hi guys,
Right i have an XDA exec and an XDA mini , ones for work ones for personal use.
I've set up an exchange server at home for the mini however it has to listen on port 8080 (the web outlook frontend).
However I'm trying to connect the activesync client to this via
address:8080 in the server field on the device but it doesn't seem to work
I can obviously access the site via 8080 on http but not via activesync. I've tried this on both the XDA MINI and the XDA EXEC and neither can access the server and i can't move the ports .
does the client support ports?
can you override them?
help!!!!
Activesync works by default over port 80 (non-secure) and 443 (secure) only. There may be a reg hack but I am unaware of one. If your cable or phone company is blocking port 80 just install a certificate, which you REALLY should be using anyway) and connect over 443 using SSL.
this is the problem, both portss 80 and 443 are taken up already by an apache web server.
I have exchange running under a virtual machine on the linux server. The windows 2003 box intergates with the existing mail sub system giving me access to the pop3 and smtp service on the linux side of things so its transparrent.
So apache runs on both port 80 and 443 so I can't bind anything to them.
I was looking into a reg hack if there was one.
If i find anything i'll post it but until then i have the same problem...which is a real annoyance!
the other thing is that the server i'm working with is only allowing port 8080 to be directed to it. Does activesync use any other port for the sync via web? As that might be the other problem.
right i've found a partial solution.
What i've done is use mod_proxy as part of the apache2 stuff to do a reverse proxy to the server over a virtual host on the system...
soo all traffic for the virtual domain foo.com goes to 192.168.1.20 which is the server behind the firewall (which just happens to be a bridged virtual machine).
That means now I can access exchange web via http on port 80 so atcive syn now connect to it.
unforutnately the crap thing is now active sync constantly asks for a username and password all the time and doesn't sync. So I'm guess it can see the server but not get any further...
so does anyone know if active sync needs access to any other ports as I can forward them much easily through the firewall.
help and thoughts please .
HAHAHAHAH GOTCHA
right that did it...
two things..i'd made a mistake int he domain name on active sync and added an E into the domain name where I should have!
also because i'd promoted the VM to a Domain Controller after installing IIS etc I had to re-register the ASP.NET framework so OMA worked.
I now have push mail working on linux out of a VM whilst apache is running on the same box
nice
Can I challenge you to document your setup and post it on a new thread for others to learn from?
yeah i'll do that , currently however I've been having a bit of a war with the SSL setup as the first pass was "open communications"
I've hit a snag where access to to OWA works for everything bar for internet explorer. I think i know the problem and have a solution so once I've tried that I'll document it and get it up here.
I do have reversed proxy SSL working to exchange though so now everything is secure and I can access OWA via firefox so again thats cool.
The I.E thing im certain is an issue with the actually app and that when it detects I.E it trys to be all clever but unfortuantely the domains don't match atm so its https://foo.com/exchange to http://bar.com/exchange and because of the domain name difference its getting a little twitcy.
theres three solutions, re-install everything from scratch (fat chance).
try to convert the active dicrectory domain to the one that matches foo (have you READ the documentation!....80 odd pages or something). Or change the https domain name on apache and redo the certificate (nice and easy but i'll do it tuesday).
once I can get it working seamlessly i'll do the docus

Messenger using port 80?

Is there such a thing?
Im using unlimited internet plan for port 80 which means i can surf over the net for html pages with no additional charge.
Now my question is if theres a messenger that uses that port so i dont must wifi or data plan to use it?
Thanks.
eran.
im not sure but you could try ebuddy, or any other html based messenger
if you have access to a vpn, ssh-server or a proxy server you can tunnel your connection through them which is supported by almost every mobile messenger client.
hi,
use open vpn, a good solution to create and use a tunnel via your pc connection, than your pc will be the server that you can connect on with your 3g+ connection.
i tried that today with success, and used msn messenger and push mail, all with my wap Sfr connection, that use the port 80.
use google for research, and send a message if you need help....i'll try even if my english is not perfect....but think i can help.

The same thing happens in portugal with the Carriers! only html traffic is allowed. Good thing there is this workaround!
going to do that now..

you can use a simple ssh server for tunneling, too. that's more simple than the configuration of a whole vpn.
First you have to have con trol over such a server (I use a vserver of mine), than have the server listen on not only the ssh port but also a http one(if you have a webserver too running in the ssh server host, you maybe can't useport 80, but luckily my provider has also port 8080 open, because it is often used for http proxies).
now download pocketputty from the internet.
in the session tab enter yout servers ip and choose ssh, but change the port to 8080.
now go to the tunnel tab (as there are many tabs, maybe you cant see it at first, but it's there).
now you enter a free port on your mobile in the source field (I use 50 for example), the destination is the ip of your ssh server, and check dynamic. now click add.
then change back to the session tab, give you settings a name in the field stored sessions and klick save.
now the settings are stored and you can start the connection by double klicken on the name of your session that is now listed unter (Default Settings) in the sessions list.
The ssh connection will open and you will to have to log you into the ssh server, with a user (the name is not important, and it needn't to be the super user ;-) ), that has a shell.
when you're logged in open your mobile icq client. now go to the proxy settings of it and choose socks as proxy server type, the proxy address is localhost and the port the one you chose in the source field in the ppcoektputty tunnel tab. (so putty is your local socks proxy server).
now you should be able to connect thorugh the ssh tunnel to icq.
if you use your mobile sionmetimes as modem for a laptop, the trick works very similiar with the normal putty and a non mobile windows ;-)

I really got lost...
I couldnt find application for ssh server which i understand how to work with..
i wouldnt mind some help...
first you need a server in the internet for that, because you need an endpoint for the ssh connection.
as i said i have a linux server under my control. if you don't have an internet server or access to one with a ssh account, which I doubt reading your post, this solution isn't maybe the best for you, because have such a server costs about 8-10 euro or dollars a month, and as I need it for other things to, this costs are ok for me.
an alternative maybe would be an vpn account by a vpn provider which costs less, but then the way to get it to work is a bit differnet.
I just thought I could set up such a server on my own computer...if possible.
I did understand i can do that, but i didnt understand how
Nevermind, I will try other solutions..
thanks
hmm, this would be possible, but your computer would have to be reachable under a fest address from the internet (which oculd be done using dyndns). Are you using windows or linux in your machine?
Usually my computer is online all the time, so it wouldnt be a problem
And using a dynamic hostname with dyndns is what I thought about at first place.
my pc is running windows

instead of XX.xx.xx.xx you must fill your internet IP thaht you can see here http://www.ip-adress.com/, and may be you have to change port to 443 instead of 80 in config files....that works with me,dont forget port forwarding in your router if you have one, mens you have to redirect incoming connection on port 80, and 443 to the pc that have openvpn.
but first of all you have to make your server work on the pc, some times you have to kill openvpn activites making CTRL+ALT+Del, to make open vpn GUi work and the vpn connect....see for next episode.
Ok,
im kind of stuck again....
I configured the vpn program and did everything by the guide,
Now i need to add a vpn connection to my regular 3g settings?
I did that, with my IP address, and it asks for user and password
i assumed its tcp-client like in the config file,
and password one of the keys in key.txt file..
but it doesnt work.
or i didnt do it right.

So, when you launch open vpn on your PC, with the GUI (the incon of open vpn on the bureau), do you have the little yellow incon down right your pc screen and a message of connection success....you must first of all secceed to make your vpn work...after for the pocket pc its really nothing.....
PS: the client config must be in the config folder of your ppc with the key....personnally i made a copy of the key in the base folder of the device cause sometimes the key is not detected in the config folder.
and important to set your connection on "my work network" not wap in the avanced connections configuration.....but tell you make a seccessful vpn connection first and for the ppc its will be a joke...

the vpn server on my pc is working, the application openvpn.exe is running in the background and i do have that network enabled and running.
I found and installed open vpn for ppc,
its a bit annoying it cant run on a window and that its running on the background screen, meaning my touchflow (im using htc diamond) is hiding it, so i need to disable the touchflow when i need to configure the app.
(maybe solutions?)
now i need to copy the configuration files and the key file i have in the config folder of the computer to the ppc folder?
And what next?

Set global proxy (not only for Browser)

Hi!
I've searched nearly the entire internet to find something maching my problem, but i can't find anything.
My Problem is, that Vodafone Germany has got a limitation of usable Ports in some of their Dataplans. That means that i can only use port 80 and 443 through their Proxy server. For Browsing and webmailing this is ok, but if i want to use the market or Wikitude or ShopSavvy for example i need a Wlan to access the internet with this apps.
I logged the Wlantraffic and found out, that most apps are communicating over port 80 and 443. Their not using the Vodafone Proxy because i always get an connection error when i am trying to use it over the cellular network.
So the big main question is: How can i force the apps to use the defined Proxy Server, the browser is allready using?
I need no Username or password for it. Just adress and port.
Is there a way to reroute all traffic through this proxy? Is there an app to set a global proxy? (Not the ones out in the market to set a browser proxy, because they are really only for the browser)
It would be so nice if someone has an idea, because i am looking for weeks now to use the phone on the go with all its extras!
T-Mobile G1 with -Cupcake 1.5 orig. non rooted-
SirPhunk
PS: Previously i had a Windows Mobile 6.1 Device and everything was working fine, because all apps were using the proxy server i set in the connection settings.
I search that for a long time too!
I'm in china.I get on Internet use a wap gateway which is called cmwap that only open 80 port.
Now I set proxy from APN setting that could only makes browser to go,but all the other apps couldn't .
I tried gnu http-tunnel in Debian, but that need for a hts the http-tunnel server.
I don't know if I can use something for the Android apps.
My idea was to set a manual route to route all traffic that runs over port 80 and 443 to the vodafone Proxy, but to do that i have to root my phone, and i don't want to do that because i wouldn't loose my warranty.
Maybe there are possibilities in Android 1.5 that came out.
It would be fine if some "Pros" could make an answer.
Necroposting much?
if you just want to bypass the limitation of http proxy, then it's possibile using openvpn over http proxy
openvpn in tcp mode allow client to connect to server through an http proxy.just setup an openvpn server use tcp mode, and install openvpn on your android phone and configure it to use the proxy provided by your isp, that's all.

A Remote RDP Tutorial?

I honestly don't know what I'm doing. All I know is that all the things I've tried so far didnt work.
Can someone guide me on how to set this up on my NookColor?
My PC and NookColor share the same wifi connection via an Airport Exteme router. I know that there are two IP Address: one form y router, which I can see on www.whatismyip.com and the other is my computer's which I can see via cmd > ipconfig. So, my question is-- how do I set this thing up? Any step by step procedure?
What have you already tried? Also what version of OS are you using, some versions of windows have RDP kneecapped. Also, where are you trying to view it from?
If you already have RDP going, you can use Wyse PocketCloud to manage the connections through your google account, it's pretty straight-forward.
Personally, I use TightVNC as the desktop client and AndroidVNC Viewer and ConnectBot on the nook. I only use my home computer when at home, so the setup is fairly simple, have AndroidVNC talk to myipaddress using port 5900. Be sure to use the connecting password when you set up TightVNC - also check the character count as you enter it, sometimes it doesn't take all the characters, ie; the password "bob-ismyuncle" is stored as "bob-ismy".
For connections remotely (not on the same network) I first SSH into the machine with ConnectBot, then set up a port forward to localhost:5901 which AndroidVNC then connects to.
Also, has anyone tried NX?
I'll assume you're a windows user?
Make sure RDP is enabled on your PC (google it, really easy to enable)
If BOTH machines are connected to your network... get the PC's IP address (via cmd ipconfig) and connect to it using the RDP port (3128 on Windows)... ex: "192.168.100.199:3128"
If you want to use RDP away from home, you need to configure your router to forward any external connections on the RDP port directly to your PC. Then you'll want to connect using your external (router's) IP address. Ex: 111.222.333.444:3128 => 192.168.100.199:3128 .... then connect to "111.222.333.444:3128"
I like LogMeIn free and logMeIn Ignition great little app. also teamviewer has a free version and free app for android

[Q] SSH/VNC over SSH tunnel

Hello, I need to connect to a linux machine behind secure network from my mobile phone. I do this from my other computers by connecting to an ssh server on that network (its port is open), and forwarding ports (for SSH and VNC) with Bitvise client, or the openssh client. I tried to do the same from my phone, and got various different results from different apps:
1. SSH Tunnel did not manage to create the tunnel at all - complete failure, just freezes.
2. SSH Autotunnel created the tunnel properly, but after that, I could not connect any SSH/VNC client using the forwarded ports on localhost (tried both "localhost" and "127.0.0.1" since my hosts file is a mess and I am sure that the ports are correct - I am getting "Connection Refused").
3. ConnectBot manages to connect to the SSH server, but disconnects upon entering the absolutely correct password.
Is it possible to install openssh on android? Also, the need for VNC arises from the fact that I normally just forward X over ssh to another linux box, but android doesn't use X server.
Could the issue be that android has some firewall that blocks my attempts? I haven't installed any of my own.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Sounds like it's blocked. If you could make it work on port 80 instead of 22, then you might be able to get somewhere.
