Thanks for the summary - very useful indeed. I'm looking for something like the Piel Frama or Xax (2) case but the keyboard must NOT be covered - which I believe it is with both of these, although it is hard to tell from the photos.

The only thing its missing is elastic stretchy sides to block the SD card from falling out while still being able to open the case.

i like the krussel or the xax #1.
am interested in feedback on the xax, as I really just want something simple to make the carrying of it easier. if I need it, i just want to take it out of the case entirely, then when finished put it back. most cases are designed to keep it inside the case. i think the clam design prevents the need for a protective permanent case, so something to make it easier to carry it would be handy.
But yes, the krussel looks good if I felt it needed protection...
So any feedback on the Xax 1 would be good, and if any body does by the krussel, let us know.

I've had the XAX 1 for about a week now and it's just what I was looking for. Like you, Simon, I was also interested in just something to carry the Universal as I prefer to take it out completely to use it. The XAX 1 certainly does the job.
The magnetic closures make it very easy to take it out of the case and put it away. The fit is not too tight to make it difficult to remove and replace but tight enough to feel secure. It's not going anywhere. And it may seem a small thing, but I also like that the magnets make the removal and replacement of the Universal into a silent operation without zipping or velcro or snaps to announce what you're doing. It's not a big deal, but it was a nice little bonus.
The concern I had with this case was the belt clip since it is an actual clip and not anything that locks in place. My previous "belt" cases with other PDAs had the locking type clips. This one just hooks on to the belt, but it feels very secure. There seems to be no question of it slipping off of a belt and I've even used it just hooked on to jeans (without them falling down, despite the Universal's weight!) when not wearing a belt. I can see where there is more of a chance that it could come unhooked when just on jeans like that, but I haven't had that happen yet.
One advantage to the locking clips was the ability to allow the case to swivel which this one does not have. After using it though, I like the horizontal orientation and now prefer that it doesn't swivel actually. I don't have to take the case off or swivel it around every time I sit down.
I'm planning to eventually get the PDAir (most likely) for times when I want the Universal protected even while in use, but I would only use that in certain environments where I was worried that it might get damaged if taken out completely. Most of the time I plan to use the Xax.

I am not sure I get how the Xax 1 works.
Is it like a holtster, where you just slide the JasJar in?
What is the magnetic closure for, is that a tab that closes over the top opening?
How are the sides protected?

It is like a holster and the JJ just slides in. As you suspected there is a leather tab that goes over the top to help protect and hold it in (though the fit is tight enough that I don't think holding the JJ in is really all that necessary.) It doesn't go completely across the top, but leaves room on one end so that you can use the headphone jack while it's in the case (as long as you put the JJ in it with the camera facing out.) Beyond that, the top is protected. There is leather on both sides, so they are protected as well. On the bottom, there's a large cut out in the middle that allows you to push up on the JJ to take it out more easily as well as two other small cut outs for the speakers.

I got the XaX #2 case today (the magnetic snap one, NOT the belt clip) and well... it's not that great.
First of all, the Jasjar won't fully close when it's inside... the leather strip that holds down the keyboard gets in the way of the screen. I've tried a bunch of different positions, and no dice.
Also, the camera hole is uncovered, but the earpiece is not so you can't use the phone when the case is closed.
The magnetic snap is nice and strong though, and the leather is of good quality.
However, in terms of functionality, it's not that great. I'll post pics later.

So I guess XaX may have a hit and a miss with their two cases. Thanks for passing that along because I think that is a concern.
I've wondered if the Piel Frama case will have the same "closing" issue. In some of the pictures on their website it looked like the JJ may not have been all the way closed. I had one of their cases for a Dell Axim 5 and it was of very high quality but the "closing" question concerns me.
I'd love to hear from anyone who gets a Piel Frama.

Same here. I am interested in the Piel Frama case or the Krusell. Both look pretty nice and seem to have the proper cut outs for all buttons and such. Just wondering which one seems to fit the device better.

I am currently using the case that came with the iPaq 5500 series. This fits the XDA Exec perfectly and is ideal if you want to use the case for storing the Exec and taking it out of the case for use.

I have received my Pielframa case a couple of days ago. The Pielframa does not have a closing issue. Also it fits perfectly. Besides that it does not use a plastic 'pouch'. That is terrible. I owned a Qtek 9090 which the case also had a plastic 'pouch' to cover the keyboard. It is a dust collector. My keyboard got very dirty and I could not get the stain away. Luckily Pielframa did not use this design.

Just want to confirm 100% before ordering the Pielframa case - you are saying that the keyboard is NOT covered by any plastic? It isn't clear from the photo. Thanks.

Thanks for giving an update! That's good news that the Piel Frama doesn't have the closing issues that was found with the XaX 2 case. I know how well PF cases are made, so I may have to get one of these (or at least put it on a gift wish list!) since I find I like to use different cases depending on circumstances.
How does it feel in terms of added bulk? It seems designed to be on the device most if not all of the time, so I wondered how it really feels when used every day?

I don't understand that either. Where did the flap go?
I'm supposed to be getting pictures together (having regular PC issues at home) so I can show the XaX 1 in use, but the general construction looks similar to the one in the link, but the XaX has a bigger flap. And it doesn't hide anywhere either!

Yes, it is not covered by any plastic.
The case does make it feel more 'bulky'. In the daily usage you could leave the it in case without the need of taking it out. I can answer the phone by not having to open the case. Of course you do need to open it to be able to make a phone call.

Another case thread...Slimmest Kaiser Case?

Well there seems to be a lot of views about the best cases out there, just wondered what the most 'pocket friendly' case was?
Don't care about the material as long as it isn't a sock or a stick-on option (ie an actual case)
Definitely no belt loop, preferably a very low profile clasp etc...
Basically just want something that is likely to stop it getting scratched up in a bag or if it was dropped, but don't need full armour!
Any good suggestions?

I've been looking for something pocket friendly as well... I'm almost ready to just get a thin sunglass pouch... currently I'm using a case for a Sprint Mogul, but it has a belt clip...

i use an ipod slip case, and have pulled off the belt clip, gives good protection to the screen,

i would be interested in your opinions and if you could confirm these points for me:
1) Can you still use the touch screen?
2) If the slide up and tilt works fine with the case on
3) The general quality and how bulky it is in a pocket
this looks perfect for me as i wanted a 2 piece armour case where i could still slide open the phone

The "tiltflipblack" is made by PDair and is available for 1/2 that price. I've had one for several weeks and it still looks new, and I wear it every day. It's the perfect case for me.

The slimest most "pocketable" case I've found yet, is the formfitting Noreve case as seen here:

It is also one of the very few - true - formfitting cases (using a laminated leather design, w/o the ugly and disturbing plasting cover over the KB. It protects the front and back really well, if not so much the sides. Easy to use and good workmanship.
Actually it IS meant (IMO) for pocket carrying.
Have it for about a month, still looks as new. If however looking for a drawback, then to my daily use pattern there is one. While in the case using the Kaiser/Tilt for navigation (in a cradle) needs taking it out of the case.

Just wanted to add my comments based on owning 4 different cases for the Tilt/Kaiser ...
The PDAir aluminum cased is good and pocketable. It is a little on the heavy side, but I've carried it arond now for a couple of weeks and it's all right. The downside is that there is a hard plastic protector over the touchscreen of the Tilt. You have to open the case to use the touchscreen or you have to take the hard plastic out. You can either cut out or push it out with some force, but the plastic is glued in and is under the neoprene that cushions the Tilt against the case. Not the smallest feel in the pocket, but no leather covered cardboard bulk feel. The size of this reminds me of a naked 8125 in my pocket (did that without disaster for almost 2 years).
I also tried the PDAir leather flip case. That one is definitely not pocketable unless you have some REALLY big pockets. And I'm not a big flip cover guy. Another strike is the plastic keyboard cover.
I also tried the Noreve and it's a nice leather case. I would consider this one pocketable, it's rather slim. But it has the flip cover. The good thing is that it has no plastic keyboard cover. It's a little loose when you close the cover with the snap. It's not loosely held in ... that's a good fit. But the snap doesn't hold the flip cover down as firmly as I'd like.
Lastly, I JUST snapped on one of the plastic snap-on kind. Good fit, but not sure how much the plastic will help in a fall. It snapped on tightly ... so tightly it took 15 minutes to get it off! I did not like that at all. If something goes wrong and you need to drop the battery quickly ... 'quickly' won't happen with this case. You can still use the touchscreen and it's a very tight snap on fit. Doesn't add much bulk or weight for pocket storage. NOTE: if you pick one of these up, be careful and check whether the belt clip button on the case is screw on or permanent. The permanent ones won't be pocketable.
The best feel in the pocket is the plane Tilt/Kaiser with no case. But I know I'm pushing my luck if I continue to do that. Still switching up to see what I end up liking most. Hope this info helps folks.

YES!
The openings for the keypad and LCD are tappered to provide the best access to the edges but they become alittle harder to get at due to the thickness of the plastic.

Yes the screen slides out and up to the normal position. The upper softkeys are silightly harder to get at when tilted due to the tickness of the plastic.
3) The general quality and how bulky it is in a pocket
Fit was tight, and snapped into place. I do not plan to use the clip as it is optional, but I will follow up with a proper review and test it out. I will get exact mesuraments later but it is not a big change and well worth the extra size.

What I do not understand about using the transparent plastic snap, is why the hack would one need a case at all when all the really "pocket sensitive" components (Touch screen, Camera lens) are not covered at all... IMO if one is indiferent to this, they may not need a case at all.
I guess that all cases are kind of trade offs. Whatever protects adds bulk in the zones protected, light protection protects less than heavy armor but presents snappier use and so on.
The potentially best solution I've seen yet is actually not offered for the Tilt/Kaiser. It is made by EB Cases and called the eNovo. It is made of sturdy yet thin laminated leather, offering a form fitting case with an optional leather flip.

I picked this up from DayDeal.com and it didnt' fit my ATT tilt. the back does but the front will not stay on
i picked up the alum. case for travel and biking it is perfect. also from DayDeal

Pocket-friendly cases

Unlike most here, I want to be able to put my Kaiser in a case, and put in my pocket. No swiveling, no clipping, and no holstering. I know the Kaiser doesn't have the most pocket-friendly form-factor, but hell, I have to make do with what I've got.
The slimmer and lighter the case, the more pocket-friendly it is.
Any recommendations?

Be very careful of the screen in your pocket. Two of your choices will not protect the screen. Good luck.

1. NOTHING in the same pocket with it.
2. Always screen facing toward me.
3. ALWAYS be aware it is in my pocket. (IE, no bumping into anything, no leaning on anything, and no squating down and putting my phone in a bind)
I have to say after 10 months of use, it still looks almost new.

That is exactly the way i carry mine ... With the execption of when I am at work I slip it into a leather eyeglass case I found, to keep dust and grime off it.

I've used this case for a long time (had a similar one for my Wizard) and really like it:

Only downside is the top and bottom do add thickness to the phone overall, but during the summer when I'm wearing cargo shorts, it goes into my pocket nicely. Biggest downside is the case fits tight so if you are on the phone the slightest bump will tend to hang up the call (or other buttons get pressed). So now I'm looking at a new case they offer:

This leaves the buttons exposed, gives you a cover over the screen, and then with a simple unsnap you can get to the keyboard (and it appears no plastic cover over the keys like the one I have now.
I really like the Seidio Slim, but I really need a flap to cover the screen for protection (whether its in my pocket or on my belt, I just don't like the screen being unprotected). I wish the Seidio holster had a removable clip as that could be workable then...

Here, Here!! Another vote for the Orbit, it takes a few to get used to, but after dropping it twice, and not a dent.. i like it!

if im up to something where it might get bashed by accident then i use my PDAir's Vertical Leather Pouch, as it covers the screen nicely

I bought one just like the new PDAir, but it was a cheap ebay case. Best $15 I've spent - has saved the phone from a number of drops, fits really well, and still fits in my pocket (it does add bulk, but an acceptable amount and I really wanted something to cover the screen).
Everything is easily accessible, and using the keyboard is a breeze.

The only drawback is if you're slipping between a car and your pocket. I've got a metal case for it in silver (It's actually the Hermes case) that i use but most the time I don't bother. It's not been too bad. But then, I am covered by Insurance

Case for fuze/touch pro for protection

I wanted to know if anyone had any good or bad experiences with clear cases like this one

I want to get a case that will protect the fuze from drops. I drop my previous phone the 8525 twice and because I'm in a city the first drop was on one of those metal grates and the phones edges got scratched up more than I would have liked and the second time was on a concrete side walk. Both times I was pulling out my phone from my case on my hip and lost grip. I was interested in getting a case that I can pull my phone from the top. That may help prevent me losing grip. But I still want to put something on the phone incase I loss grip again and drop the phone. And I was looking for something that will not put that much bulk or take away from the looks of the phone. If anyone has any suggestions or experence with cases or skins that I can put on the phone to try and protect it from a drop I would like to read about it

I had the boxwave clear case for my 8525, and it saved my phone several times. There were a couple problems though. For starters, the gaps between the plastic and the phone get covered in dirt, and you have to remove the case to clean it out. The case snaps on to your phone will little plastic tabs. If one of those breaks, part of your case will be loose.
However, I will certainly give the case full marks for protecting my phone. It survived drops, throws, smashes, and just about everything else you can imagine would happen if a 1 year old got a hold of your phone. So, if you don't really care about the phone getting dirty and whatnot, the boxwave case provides some good protection while adding a minimal amount of bulk to the phone.

I had a case similar for my HTC Tilt and I loved it, it saved my phone several times too and it has a belt clip which I loved! Also if you get that case they have it on eBay for cheaper... I believe it was $9.99 or something like that, I was looking earlier today and saw it on there but I bought a Hot Pink Rubberized one instead. But I like the cases, of course it's your own personal preference though. Hope I'm not too late with the eBay info though lol. Here's my search link, there are a couple cases for it.

Search for the body glove case. It is rubberized, not the best looking of cases, but might protect it the best. I bought mine on ebay.

I bought the official AT&T 2-piece case for $29.99 (-30% FAN discount).
It fits, but tabs that hold it on make the phone seem like it's going to get stuck in a half open position.

HTC Touch Pro Case Protection
For those of you who have a Touch Pro and have the Sprint included HTC brand case, you probably have the same gripe about it as I do. There is very little protection to the side of the phone as the OEM case has several gaps in it. Also using the case for a few weeks, the velcro begins to lose its hold and the case may not shut properly. I have customized my case to fix these problems and would encourage others to do the same. Here is what you will need:
-Small elastic material (available at any craft store or Wal-Mart!)
-3M double sided tape
-Velcro strips
-5 minute epoxy (Wal-Mart)
Directions: Cut a piece of elastic the same length as the open portion of the side of the case. Cut out small pieces of double sided tape and apply to the black cross sections of the case. Apply the elastic and cut to size. For the the velcro fix on the front of the phone, cut a strip of the velcro and fit to size on the front of the case. Mix the 5 minute epoxy and apply to the back of the velcro strip you just cut. Apply the velcro to the case and allow to dry (apply pressure to ensure a tight fit). Enjoy your case!

Capdase + Seidio = $$ = Ultimate Case??

Like the look & feel of a "simple" black leather case, but do NOT like the idea of covering the keyboard with a sheath of plastic (poor feel & seems bound to age poorly) - and so ended up with a Capdase BiFold Leather Case for my Fuze.
Posted pictures & problems with this case earlier, including some Surgery we performed to alleviate Case/Screen interaction. But while the surgery did Help, it did NOT eliminate the problem.
ALSO got concerned about reports of the top LAMINATE lifting off from the lower (button) area of TouchPros. As my screen protector has fallen prey to a similar lifting, having the laminate come up seems at least Possible.
Decided that what was needed was a cover for the TOP of the Fuze - one that would add as little bulk as possible, while both protecting the edges of the unit and providing a bit of separation between the screen and the top flap of the Capdase case (which would sometimes (RE)DIAL the phone at the end of a call! Nice trick if you could control it... )
Ended up buying a Seidio Innocase, which others have reviewed: it does indeed "fit like a glove" - wonderful precision, a nice feel, & leaves plenty of room around the actual Touch portion of the screen. (Carried the Fuze for several days in just the Seidio, but did not like the Exposed Screen.)
The combo of the Capdase BiFold Leather + the TOP HALF of the Innnocase seems to work perfectly: the edges are protected, the screen is protected, the Capdase fits nice & tight against the Seidio (which also provides a bit more protection for the top corners of the Fuze), and there has been no more Accidental Dialing (or Disconnects!).
Combination is obviously Not Cheap (think total came to around $55, incl Shipping Costs), but it IS flexible: can always remove Fuze from the Capdase & snap the Innocase back cover on if a SLIM profile is required.
The Combination fits nicely into an inner jacket / coat pocket (where a tri-fold wallet might fit), and also does well in the top pocket of an Over Shirt (Safari, jean, or wool - as long as pocket has a Closure of some kind!)

Indeed, the "naked" approach has some arguments in its favor - particularly if ALL you are carrying is just "a phone."
A Phone is relatively inexpensive & readily replaceable: My Razr never saw the inside of a case - but it certainly looked Well Used by the time it was replaced with the Fuze. (At only 16 months or so of usage.)
My Axim (PDA) has never been WITHOUT a case: it has served for over three times as long as the Razr did (and is now approaching 5 years in service), and only in past 6-months or so has it exhibited any outward signs of wear ("chrome" plating on D-pad & "DELL" logo are wearing off). OTOH, have been through numerous screen protectors, and the Daily Carry case (a RhinoSkin) looks like it has been through a war zone: in essence, the screen protectors and the case have 'sacrificed' themselves for the safety of the Axim - and the invaluable data stored within.
My Fuze is PDA FIRST, and Phone second. Like the Axim, I hope to keep the Fuze running for at least 4 years (hopefully longer!), and do not look upon it as Readily Disposable - like A Phone would be. Therefore a good case seems a very worthwhile investment, albeit one that is made more difficult by a) the dual purpose nature of the Fuze (it may be Phone Second, but it DOES still function as a phone), and b) the Sliding Keyboard.
For those who view the Fuze as simply a Fancy Phone - AND have the wherewithal to replace it every couple of years - a case is undoubtedly either a Nuisance or merely a Fashion Statement.
But for others, choosing a good case seems to be a reasonably important decision - otherwise there would not be nearly as many posts on the subject as there are...

well to each their own I guess, I generally change phones every 12 months or so. I guess I cant justify using a case to cover the phone

There are several nice looking cases available - the Kursell is one & Pdair makes a couple, although recall looking at others as well - that utilize the Plastic Sheath Over The Keyboard approach. Looked long & hard at several of these, as (like the Kursell) some have a very elegant look!
Unfortunately could not get past the plastic sheath. This strays into "personal preference" territory, but
1) Dislike the "feel" of the plastic on top of the keyboard;
2) A plastic sheath seems to force the two layers of the Fuze apart. That should vary with the type of plastic used: if I hold the Fuze up to a bright background it APPEARS that the gap between the halves should be adequate for a precisely THIN sheet... Overall fit of the Lower part of the case might have an impact here as well, but that's hard to gauge without buying Every Case on the market...
3) Was concerned that the plastic would not WEAR well, given sufficient usage. Yellowing, becoming ratty at the edges, & stretching all seem likely.
Case selection is like PIM choice: Personal Preferences play a major role in product selection, and there are multiple Solutions that are equally viable according to the preference of the end user.
Slip case, or Attached case?
Belt Clip, or Not? (Detachable, or Not? Rotating or Fixed?...)
Leather, Metal, Silicone, Hard Rubber, Or ??
Removable Top Cover (Kursell) or Permanently Attached?
Holders for data cards, styli, Other Things?
Have LOVED the RhinoSkin that has served as the Daily Carry Case for my Axim. But it is an Industrial looking piece of hardware - rather clunky & now somewhat beat up in appearance. So also have a nice (Belkin) Leather case that I use for "need a suit jacket" events.
Frankly - along similar lines - can imagine times where I might forego the extra protection of the Capdase and simply carry the Fuze in the Innocase, as it certainly presents less bulk when in the Seidio...
Options are Nice, but trying TOO many gets expensive!

Looking to also purchase the seidio innocase, but before I do can ppl confirm if it gives problems on pushing on the screen. Have had such cases that seem okay for a few weeks, but then the screen becomes unresponsive due to the case pushing on the touch portion of the screen.
