PAYG O2 GPRS setting not working - Networking

Hi
I have a Qtek 9100 running the O2 XDA Mini S Official WM5 Rom.
I am trying to set it up to access the internet using a PAYG o2 sim. I have followed a couple
of guides from this site but it still will not work.
I can connect to GPRS ok but when I try to connect to a page on the web,
I get an error message saying
"the page cannot be dispalyed or downloadedbecause the connection was lost. Check the onnection and try again later"
I still have a GPRS connection when I get this message.
My setting are;
modem-Cellular line (GPRS)
Access popint name - payandgo.o2.co.uk
username - payandgo
password - password
Advanced settings - use server assigned IP addesss
use server-assigned addresses
connection name o2
modem cellular line (gprs)
access point name - payandgo.o2.co.uk
username - payandgo
password - password
domain -

use server-assigend ip address
proxy settings
both boxes ticked
http - 192.113.200.195:8080
WAP - 192.113.200.195:8080
What am I doing wrong.
I'm new to this so be gentle!!!

just figured out what I'm doing wrong.
I had two connection set up .
I have deleted the first one and now I can connect.

Pleased it's working, but it really gobbles up the cash on PAYG.
Mike

do you have to set up gprs with o2? do you have to tell them you want it?
ive got an o2 pay as you go sim, i can connect but it doesnt seem to work properlly like you stated. ive not contacted o2 to 'turn on' gprs for me so i dont know if its that.

Internet over GPRS with O2 PayAndGo

I have an XDA1 and an o2 payandgo SIM. I have the GPRS activated and have no problem picking up my emails, but I can't use IE or MSMess. It tries to connect for a few minutes then times out. The connection details I have entered are as follows:
APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Username: payandgo
P/W: password
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get IE and MSMess to work?
Excellent forum BTW, I've learnt loads in the last few days reading here...
Enable the proxy server setting in connection options and use:
193.113.200.195
You'll now be able to connect to HTML websites via Internet Explorer, but you'll not be able to use MSN Messenger via GPRS unfortunately.
seraphic, are you saying we can get full internet on O2 payg over gprs, I didnt think it was possible, I use the gsm to access the internet to use my 300 free minutes. If so can you give me the full settings.
Deke, what settings do you use to set up your pop 3 email over gprs.

Great, thanks. How do I do that? I've looked in the Connections bit, but the only reference I can find for proxy servers in under the 'Work network' section. Did I mention I'm using PPC2003?
Cruisin', I'll check my settings for you when I get home.
I'd be delighted if o2 payg did gprs, but 2 months ago they said no.I doubt if it's changed.
LMX, GPRS is definitely available on O2 P&G, I have it and use it daily for emails, it's the web-browsing I'm having trouble with.
You need to set up your GPRS settings under the work connections option so you can use a proxy.

Using the proxy server setting you can indeed view HTML sites over pay as you go GPRS. You can't use MSN Messenger, as it only allows access to port 80.
Cruisin',
Sorry for the delay in responding; here are the settings I use for email:-
First off you need to create a new account so that you have SMS, ActiveSync and eMail. Then run through the settings entering your details (all pretty straightforward stuff). The server info is dependent on whoever is your email server. I have a pop3 o2 account to make it easy, so the servers are mail.o2.co.uk (incoming) and smtp.o2.co.uk (outgoing).
Hope this helps.
Seraphic,
I'm fully webb'd up now, thanks a lot!
I have been told many times that it is possible for internet over gprs on O2 payg, I have tried every suggestion to the letter, I cannot do it, I can get wap over gprs, I can get internet over gsm. I was told by an O2 technician on this forum that it was not possible to get full internet over gprs with O2 payg sim. How can some people get it and others cant? I would be very grateful to see the full settings for the xda/xda 2 listed in a foolproof manner.
OK, full instructions:
* I recommend deleting any existing GPRS settings you have under the work connection settings before entering these to avoid confusion *
1. Go to Start -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections.
2. You'll see 2 sets of option links. 'My ISP' and 'Work'. Under the work links, choose 'Add a new modem connection'.
3. Name for connection: o2 gprs. Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS). Tap Next.
4. Access Point Name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
5. Username: payandgo
6. Password: password
7. Tap Finish.
8. Back in the connections settings screen, tap 'Edit My Proxy Server'.
9. Tick 'This network connects to the Internet' and 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet'.
10. In the proxy server box enter: 193.113.200.195
11. Tap OK.
12. Back in the connections settings screen, tap the Advanced tab.
13. Tap 'Select Networks'
14. In both drop down boxes choose 'Work' as the connection. Tap OK.
15. Tap OK again.
16. You are now ready to surf o2 pay as you go gprs full internet.
That's what I did and it works well, but do bear in mind the O2 network is very tempremental; I've been trying to get a connection all day with no joy and I KNOW my settings are correct.
One thing I have noticed though, I can't pick up my emails anymore. It seems the outbox will only connect with an ISP connection and IE will only work with a work/proxy connection. Can I get over this somehow?
iT WORKS, IT WORKS, IT WORKS.   :? 8)
Glad to hear it
Connection problems
I have just got an unlocked M1000 and I have been trying to set it up to allow me to connect to the internet using a pay as you go sim. I have followed the instructions above, but i just keep on getting errors of the page not being able to load. I know that the pages exist as I am just using big sites pages such as microsoft.com etc. at the moment. Anyone got any ideas on what the problem could be.
I think they blocked the port for internet over gprs.
Yes they have altered a lot of thinge recently. The trick to get html throught the wap portal was blocked & they also blocked all except wap on the GSM WAP dial up too. There is a different Mobile WEB GSM number but that is 40p a minute so GPRS would probably be cheaper.
Mobile Web on Pay and Go
Dingo mentions that there's another GSM number that's 40p a min to access mobile web....................does this mean I can actually get full HTML web access on my Pay and Go XDA ????? How (what's the number?)
I only need to surf HTML pages occasionally - so it's not worth going to contract .................
Thanks

it's nearly to do with Vodafone GPRS/MMS....

Hi all, sorry to bother you with this one!
I got my O2 XDAII unlocked and used it with no drama at all with my Vodafone SIM. I then put the GPRS settings in and it worked fine with MSN Messenger and IE etc. I then put the MMS settings in and started sending and receiving picture messages perfectly.
The problem, i hear you ask....
Well, I got TomTom 3 and a program called POI Warner which is used to alert me of POI's (read, speed cameras  ) and it wanted to connect to the Internet to update it's database. It always used to try once i'd dropped the XDA in the cradle. As something wasn't right somewhere, it used to lock up the XDA until it gave up trying and then it would release the XDA so that i could use it again. This all seemed to be because of the Activesync passthrough settings. :?
I set them as I should have (after reading on here what to do - thanks!) and then it worked fine. Still with me...??????
It seems that i can't send picture message anymore
I have all the settings from the other posts on here but somehow, my settings in the connections screen have gone loopy.
Can someone on Vodafone PLEASE PLEASE let me know what settings they have in the connections screen, be it two sets (My Work Settings and another) or (Vodafone GPRS and Vodafone MMS - as i used to have). And when you click the advanced tab at the bottom of the connection screens, which programs do you have for 'Programs that connect to the internet should use' and programs that connect to a private network should use'???
when you edit either of these, it comes up with ANOTHER connection screen - what you have got in there??
This is on top of the Server mentioned in the MMS composer screen that needs another mention of the same server in there!!!
If I can get this working with someone's help , I hereby promise to take a screenshot of every screen I have and put an idiots guide to getting this working up on the Web should I need it again!!
thanks in advance Guys!!
Firstly to clean things up a bit it'd look in the registry under [HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Destinations] and remove all but:
'The Internet'
'Work'
'My Work Network' - or whatever it was renamed to
'My ISP' - or whatever it was renamed to
Then resetup all the connections.....
Here are the settings I have, which work perfectly.
Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:
Vodafone Internet (My ISP renamed)
Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:
Vodafone Live! (My Work Network renamed)
Settings:
Vodafone Internet
Under modem...
Name: Internet GPRS
modem type: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Access Point Name: Internet
User name: web
Password: ip
No extra settings under advanced
Vodafone Live!
Under modem...
Name: Vodafone Live! GPRS
modem type: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Access Point Name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
User name: wap
Password: wap
No extra settings under advanced
Under Proxy Settings...
Both boxes ticked.
Under Advanced...
WAP: 212.183.137.12 : 9201
MMS Settings:
Connect via: Vodafone Live!
Under Servers...
Vodafone MMS - just what I called it (should only be one in there)
Gateway: 212.183.137.12
Port number: 9201
Server address: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
& I put my sending size as 100K - but its your choice.

O2 email settings on M5000

Hope someone can help me here. I paid Orange £20 to give me the code for unlocking the phone - this worked fine and I can now use my O2 SIM. Does anyone know the definitive settings on the M5000 to access the O2 network for both email and MMS? A walkthrough would really be appreciated. I've set-up a new POP3 email account and want to use my own inbox and O2's SMTP server. However, when I click on send/receive I get a message saying "cannot connect with your current settings, to change your connection settings, tap settings" - doing this this leads me to Orange World and My Work Network. Can anyone shed any light or help?
Thanks

SOS!! My HD2 cannot connect to web on O2 "Problem Solved"

Hi all,
I've got my sim-free HD2 from superetrader uk. But after inserting my o2 sim, I got a really big problem that I can't get to web!!
I used "O2" network settings found by HD2 automatically. But it always said
"Cannot Connect
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection...blahblah"
when I tried to access 3G.
I've tried many ways suggested on the internet, including removing username and password in the connection settings, adding DNS ip, and even using hard reset. But thay can't work at all.
But my sim does work well(accessing 3G) in my HTC HD(that rom supports 3G and connection settings are with blank username, password and DNS).
I nearly suspect there is a manufacturing problem with my phone.
Plz help me! I've struggled for 2 days and gonna explode!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
To find a solution, please go to #6. Thanks!
can you try to go on the o2 site using your pc and download the settings to your phone via mms/sms
are you a payg customer
are you using pay as you go?
if so on my mates phone on O2 it downloads the wrong connection settings when it does the automatic setup and you need to edit them to get it to work
Find and edit the right name for your accesspoint.
At german o2 it is APN (Zugriffspunkt) : webmobil1
Thank you all!!
You helpful guys all hit the point!!
Exactly I am a pay & go user.
After I got your replys, I asked my friend who also uses O2 pay&go with S1. He told me a different APN. Then I tried and it worked!!
So it's right a wrong access point name setting problem.
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH AGAIN!!
Here are my correct connection settings for UK O2 PAY & GO USER WITH A SIM FREE HD2 if you undergo a pain with accessing internet:
Settings - Wireless controls - Menu - Connections - Add a new modem connection
[you can delete all other connections first if you only use o2 mobile internet]
Enter a name for the connection: mobile web (whatever you like)
Select a modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Next.
Access point name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Next.
User name:
Password:
Domain:
(These three items are all left BLANK)
Advanced...
(Just use the default settings)
Finish.
OK.
OK.
Close.
Now it works.
Alternatively, you can use automatic config by choosing O2 from network database of HD2. Then you can just manage the connection "moblie web" by changing access poing name to payandgo.o2.co.uk and deleting both username and password.
Hope that's clear!
Thank you loads! I was having the same problem and thanks to this post I managed to sort it! Nice to know the automatic O2 settings thing works about as well as a chocolate teapot!
Again thanks

O2 Wap Settings on a T-Mobile Phone

I recently acquired an HD2 that is locked to T-Mobile. I am using a "Rebel Sim" to allow me to use an O2 sim card, however, I am unable to connect to the internet without Wi-Fi.
I have looked around the next, and even email O2 direct, and nothing they say is helping. I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to fix this problem.
Sorry if this post has already been asked, I searched the first 40 pages in the General Forum, and found similar aspects, nothing that answers correctly.
Thanks for your help

Ok, so i tried the link, and it now works, yay, however i can only update the whether?
I assume that the mobile internet must be working cos it has a counter as well, logging how much time i spend on there, any further ideas?
sorry to be a pain.
What's not working for you then Callum ?
Basically, I have set up the internet, so I am now able to update the whether without Wi-FI, however, I am still not able to use the web-browser without Wi-FI.
go to settings menu all settings connections connections advanced select networks. In there it lets you set the default connection for different types of apps. try the different connections, see what works. You may find it is trying to default to an old connection from when the phone was locked, who knows.
weather - rain, sun, clouds
whether - a choice or doubt between two or more alternatives
