I just upgraded from tmobileweb to the total internet plan, and I am using an unlocked at&t 8525. The only way I can use anything on the connection on my phone is if I set the access point as wap.voicestream.com and set up all proxy servers to 216.155.165.50.
I thought as soon as I got total internet that I wouldn't have to set up any proxy settings on my phone. Any ideas why my phone is doing this, or am I completely off on my assumption on the total internet plan?
you should be able to use internet2.voicestream.com as your access point for all data transfers except MMS. for MMS you still need to se wap.voicestream.com
http://tmobileuspublic.wdsglobal.com/phonefirst
try that link and copy the settings they recommend for the Wing.
I tried the settings for the Wing on that site, and it still doesn't work. I tried to test it out using Internet Explorer, and when I try a simple web site it immediately gives me an error stating it cannot connect with current connection settings.
When I do connect on a WiFi connection, everything works fine. When I had it set up with proxies and all, IE would use a WSP protocol in the URL (wsp://www.google.com) whereas the WiFi connection would use normal HTTP (http://www.google.com).
With some reg edits, it works!
UPDATE: I contacted T-mobile Tier 3 support and they were as stumped as I was. On a hunch, I kept the setup without proxy and had the access point to internet2.voicestream.com, and tried Opera. It works like a charm!
I recalled a spot on the HTC Tytn WIKI about hard-coded proxy settings for IE. This made sense since everything else seemed to work except IE. I went to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings and removed the 'EnableAutoDetect' key completely.
Did a soft reset on my phone, loaded up IE, and it works like it should be. Now I'm very very happy!

What are you guys using to connect to the internet? I can do everything I want with T-zones unlimited, using the proxy... however, if I use the proxy, I can't connect to wi-fi because it wants to try to connect thru the proxy. What services are you using and what are your settings?
Thanks,
Danny
i will use
I wont get my MDA till monday according to UPS, but when i get it i plan on getting the Total Internet plan for 29.99. it includes GPRS, EDGE and Hot Spots. That is the plan the tmobile is advertizing with this phone.
I have the T-Mobile total internet package. I am not using the proxy server, and it connects to Hotspot just great.
However, I have not tried to access T-Zones. Well, I tried once, and got a network solutions 'page coming soon' thing. I doubt I have it correct. lol
hot spot
how does the hot spot autentication work?
im assuming they made it so i wouldnt be able to just put in my username and password on my laptop and log it into a hotspot.
I have unlimited internet 19$ plan.
I don't use any proxy server.
I don't think you can use the regular t-zone on this phone ($9 plan).
Otherwise all good, just use: internet2.voicestream.com in the gprs setup and the rest emty.
my 5.99 tmobileweb with proxy works very well with any website using internet explorer mobile. it doesn't work, however, with outlook or any other mail client or application that doesn't know how to use proxy. i'm glad that virtual earth 1.5 works well even with my tmobileweb plan.
as for the problem that the original poster described, in the connection settings, i created a connection especially for wifi. and to switch between wifi and tmobileweb, i go to 'select networks' and choose which ever connection i want in the two drop-down lists that i have.
Proxy Setup
msafi,
What are the settings for setting up the proxy? I used the proxy with my Nokia 6600 just fine, but, cannot get it to work on the MDA Wizard.
Thanks, SK

I had the same problem. This is what I did to resolve.
got to start menu, settings, connections, then connentions again. then go to advanced, then select networks In the first box put my isp.(or create it). In the second box should be your t-zones settings.(dont edit)then hit ok twice and then exit to today screen. Give this a try, it worked for me.
The reason this is happening is because the proxy servers used by all major carriers are only available from inside thier network. Im not sure if it is because of DNS records are not provided from outside their network. Once you connect to the WiFi network, the proxy server is unreachable.
For other purposes than this, I have 2 networks setup. One with all the proxy settings for the cingulara network and one that doesn't have the proxy settings. Its easy enough to change when you just have to select a different network to connect to the "internet" with.
Can't have proxy server set up and use wifi too....
My first wizard had defective wifi card. I spent numerous hours with the tmobile support and HTC support to try and get it to work. The first thing they had me check was to disable proxy settings. Both tech supports straight out told me you can't have both. I once saw some thread where someone adjusted a lnk file or registry value so that when wifi was turned on, the proxy settings were disabled;when turned off they were re-enabled.
Hope that helps, Jess
I have a HTC Wizard running WM5. I am running a connection with proxy settings and one without. I can turn on wifi connect to IE and then turn off wifi. Re-open IE and gprs will connect and then load page. I did'nt need to use any special registry settings.
I have been talking to at&t customer support (without success BTW) about a strange problem. Here it is:
I recently received a replacement 8525. My previous 8525 had the original ROM and the latest has the new ROM upgrade. On GPRS, the old phone would connect to isp.cingular access point name but the new phone won't. The new phone will only connect to wap.cingular access point name. (Both phones used/use the My ISP (without the proxy) network.)
With my previous phone, I was able to download radio show podcasts by going to the website of the radio show and then click on the download link. A "Save As" dialog would display and I would save the mp3. On the new phone the PIE displays that it can't display the page.
Here is the strange part. When I connected to my Wi-Fi at home (NOT through a PC but directly to the wireless router from the phone) I could download the mp3 just like the previous phone. I went to the web site, clicked the link, and received the "Save As" dialog.
This looks to me that there is nothing wrong with the phone since the mp3 could be downloaded through the Wi-Fi connection, but there is a problem getting the download through the GPRS connection.
Am I wrong in this? Any ideas will be welcome, I'm getting tired of talking to at&t.
Thanks.

I had the same problem before.
When ever your plan or phone changes (or anything with your account) your isp connectivity is turned off.
What you must do is call at&t and tell them to turn your isp.cingular back on.
If they give you some lip (I haven't had any lip from them)Just tell them that your VPN will only work using isp.cingular.
I've had to do this 3 times.
Also don't forget to remove the "EnableAutoDetect" from the registry...that will also stop PIE from working under isp.
HTH
I'm assuming you have the PDA connect plan if you're trying to use isp.cingular, right? Also, if you're using wap.cingular and you can't access the web as usual, you probably have a proxy set up. Check that out and report back.
How do I check to see if I have a proxy set up?
I have my "My ISP" network configured to connect to wap.cingular which doesn't have the proxy selection. That is the network I am currently using. I have also found a program on my phone call Proxy Manager. It consists of two programs: Disable Proxy and Restore Proxy. Do I need to run the Disable Proxy program?

AT&T now acknowledges that the 8525 cannot connect to ISP out of the box. The fix came out around wednesday 7/25. Their fix is to run the Disable Proxy in the Proxy Manager folder in Programs. This didn't work for me.
I performed a hard reset and tried AT&T's fix again. It still wouldn't connect. So I tried to delete "EnableAutoDetect" from the registry. After attempting to run PIE (and failing) I looked back in the registry and it was back. I noticed the value of "EnableAutoDetect" was "0". So for fun I set it to "1". I was able to connect to the internet.
I then modified the "My ISP" settings to compress the headers and the "EnableAutoDetect" was reset to "0". I reset it back to "1" and it has run ever since.
So if you have an AT&T 8525 and you have PDA Connect Unlimited and cannot connect with the "My ISP" settings do this:
1. Go to Programs/Proxy Manager and run Disable Proxy
2. Set "EnableAutoDetect" to "1"
If you make changes to the ISP like the setting to compress the headers, you may need to reset "EnableAutoDetect" back to "1" again.
Very good info. This problem has annoyed me quite a bit because the wap versions of web pages really tend to suck. I'll give this fix a try later tonight.
These fixes didn't work for me.
The primary purpose of 'Disable Proxy' and 'Restore Proxy' is to flip the EnableAutoDetect value back and forth. (disable - 1, restore - 0).
AT&T is also in the habit of sending phones out with MEdiaNet and 'My ISP' both configured for wap.cingular. May need to change 'My ISP' to isp.cingular if you have a PDAConnect plan.
I have the PDA connect plan, and my 8525 came configured originally with isp.cingular as the default. It wouldn't connect. I changed it to MEdia.net and now it connects, but to wap.cingular.
I'm actually kind of guessing that the proxy settings are on the wrong track on this for me, because I get a message that the modem has disconnected. A proxy setting shouldn't disconnect the modem, it would just make pages unable to display. There's something on Cingular's side that doesn't like my phone, either my password is incorrect or they need to provision it properly.
The current disposition of the proxy (i.e., enabled/disabled) won't prevent your phone from making a data connection, nor is it required for wap.cingular or isp.cingular. Enabling it allows you to access AT&T's "internal" services over GPRS (and only GPRS, incidentally).
The ability to use isp.cingular is usually driven by the plan to which you're subscribed. I'm not able to use isp.cingular, for example, because I have a MEdiaNet plan. I think AT&T may have a long-term plan to do away with isp.cingular, but I'm not sure.
I talked to ATT today and they provisioned it so that I could connect to isp.cingular. This worked during the time that I was on the phone with them and then resumed not working after we ended the call.

I have a proxy setup to allow me to connect to T-mobile's internet. I noticed that when the proxy is enabled in connection settings, my wifi does not connect to websites. However, when I disable the proxy from my gprs connection wifi works fine.
Is this normal? Is it maybe a bug with the rom im using?
Normal.
...
I have searched everywhere and instead of starting another post on the same issue I will post on this one.
I have the same issue, and understand its normal. Is there a way around this because re typing in proxy settings just to go on gprs internet is a annoying and incovienent. I want to be able to go on wifi and have everything work fine. When I disconnect wifi I can then access the internet via gprs proxy.
AT&T included both an enable proxy cab and a disable proxy cab...
However Im in the process of moving and my main computer is down...
When I get it back up I'll pull those cabs off of the phone, perhaps they will work for tmobile..beats going into the connection settings...
After all of this I found a fix.

Someone should really sticky this because this helps so much especially since I like not having to pay for my T-mobile internet via the proxy. Now I dont have to delete the proxy. My activesync and wifi work flawlessly as well as GPRS Edge.
Ok if I do a flash of WM6 Vanilla everything works fine I can brows the web via wireless connections and whatnot, I then run a cab supplied by shotgun that is supposed to add the approprate connections for Cingulars MediaNet service in the US and the SMS stuff... Once I do that my internet browsing with wireless no longer works...
I'm new to all of this so I dont know if its something simple and stupid I'm missing but any help is appreciated.
Ok... well....
I think I got it on my own, I just used the wap.cingular settings to setup a Media Net connection. That works and so does my WAN connections for browsing the web too. So I think I'm fine.
