Please help with PIE on mogul 6800 wm 6.0 - Mogul, XV6800 General

I've had this device for about a month now with no issues. All of a sudden the last 2 days or so anytime I ope PIE whatever page I go to loads till about 95 percent then freezes! Any idea what could be causing this? It makes the device hang up for about 5 minutes before I can even get back to the today screen. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks in advance from a noob lol. I'm running HTC home plugin among other apps. If a complete list is needed I will provide it.

Previous to this have you browsed the internet with PIE with out errors? If so try clearing your history, files, cookies. All of this tends to slow down PIE if not cleared.
By the way are you using WiFi or your DATA connection?
If clearing the files didnt work it could be a program hogging the memory. I recommend using Oxios Hibernate this program frees up memory when needed. Like when you are using a memory intense program and need extra resources to make it run smootly.

it happens when using data connection mostly. Some times during wifi. My data connection seems to go grey more and more frequently.

PIE did the same to me a few months ago.
nothing i did fixed it.
i then uninstalled it and havent bothered reinstalling as it pissed me off so badly.

Need Help with weird memory leak.

ok heres the deal. Lately the memory on my wing has been draining DRASTICALLY!! I always had the memory issue but now as soon as the phone starts up i woudl have like 16mb free ( changed the pagepool to 6mb.) then it would go down to 3.5 in like 10 seconds. Anyone know why it would be doing this. Is there a solution. I am still using the factory tmobile rom.
Right after soft-reset, the memory should get down for a while and then come back to normal. I can see Active Sync running at that time and I used to close it.. Does the same happen there?
yah activesync is running also but even after i close it and the phone sits for the whole day it will still be at 3.4/5 when activesync is running it drops to 2.8

Auto-Rotate is annoying me.

How can Turn off the autorotate feature? Im Running JFv1.41. I did a search and can only find threads on other phones, I searched under G1, and only learned how to ENABLE it.
Thanks

open the app "droidsans tweak tools" and there's a button to disable auto-rotate.
I don't see that app... What am I missing?
I know im not crazy. Just a n00b
Are you talking about auto-rotate in the browser or for the home screen?
If it's the browser, you can disable it the browser settings. If it's the home screen, you need to search the market for DroidSans Tweak tools and disable it there.
At some point, you must have un-installed DST if your home screen is auto-rotating.
I bet thats what it is. The guy I bought the phone from did a wipe, and all the apps were lost, but the firmware was still on there.
You guys kick ass. Thanks for your patience. Ive had alot of questions since just yesterday and you guys always help within 5 minutes!
It worked like a charm. I love this community!

i agree...this forum rocks. i'm not very tech savvy, but i was able to root my G1, have apps installed to the SD card, etc, etc...all because of the kick-ass members of XDA.
and before the G1, this community helped me get WM6.1 on my dash.
xda is full of g1 jedis(im not one) they have helped me alot as well..so thanks guys
Is anyone else getting error messages when waking the phone back up? I would occasionally (1 out of 20 times) get an "application 'so-and-so' has stopped responding" and tapping "wait" would continue through the error like nothing else was wrong. As soon as I shut auto-rotate off, those errors went away. It was always a different program, too.

Happens to me every now and then, not as often though, may be once out of 50 times. See what program it is, if it's one from the market then you can remove it ( I would, I don't need anything on my phone that doesn't run correctly or hogs my precious memory). If it's stock... well.. you're SOL, just wait for Android to implement some better way of managing memory.
Good luck

I've noticed on occasion I also get it with auto-rotate disabled, but not nearly as often. Maybe a couple times so far since I've gotten my replacement last week.
When it would hang, it was pretty much any random process. One time it was Alarm, other times something else, never a particular process. I think it has to do with the phone sleeping and maybe the accelerometer is oriented one way and it wakes up for an event in another position and then hangs - I don't know. It was never really a problem and I don't think the hung processes were wasting battery so I'll just reenable it.

HTC Sync 2.0.4 problem - need help!

Happy owner of a Hero for 2 weeks now, but I have a problem with HTC Sync 2.0.4:
When the Hero is not connected to my notebook (XP SP3), there is some activity on the notebook every 4 seconds, shown as a short flash of an hourglass next to my mouse pointer.
It took me a couple of hours to pinpoint this back to HTC Sync. Apparently, one of the processes needed for HTC Sync, HTCVBTServer.exe, keeps very active all the time even when the Hero is disconnected. Every 4 seconds, it spawns and kills a new instance of an other process called FsynSrvStarter.exe.
Leading to the very annoying flashing hourglass every 4 seconds.
I found some more information on this:
http://www.htcforums.com/hero-touch-f40/htc-sync-maxes-out-memory-t2791.html
The only way of stopping the flashing hourglass is killing the process HTCVBTServer.exe in Windows Task Manager.. Of course, HTC Sync doesn't work anymore after that, even after restarting HTCVBTServer.exe.
My request:
I want to install the previous version of HTC Sync (I think it was called 2.0.2) that was on the SD card, to see if that version has the same problem. Stupidly enough, I formatted my SD card and lost the program file. I've looked around everywhere on the internet (including htc.com), without success.
Is anybody willing to help me and send the install file of HTC Sync 2.0.2 to me or provide me with a download link?
I appreciate your help!
Marc
I can't help you with the older version as I deleted it from the SD card too.
I wish they'd make HTC sync start when you plugged the Hero in, and then have it shut down (and all related processes) when you unplugged it. Surely it can't be that hard.
I don't like loads of processes running unnecessarily.
Kadison, I totally agree.
Is nobody else having the problem I described?
And nobody who has version 2.0.2 for me?
I have monitored the process HTCVBTServer.exe with Process Explorer: with the Hero disconnected from the pc, it creates two additional handles every 4 seconds (explaining the flashing hourglass). 20.000 handles per 24 hrs, if I'd leave my pc on for a couple of days XP will certainly crash.
Serious bug! And annoying hourglass every 4 seconds..
I have found a workaround by suspending HTCVBTServer when my Hero is disconnected and resuming it before I sync, but would appreciate to get version 2.0.2 from somebody and see if that works better.
BTW I contacted HTC via email: 'we do not have older version, try to get from somebody else. RE: problem described: please reinstall'. ??!!
Cheers,
Marc

If you can wait a while, I'll have a look at my old SD card (the one that came with the phone) and see if 2.0.2 is still on it.
Ok - I looked, what I have seems to have 2 version names i.e. 12.0.0.58851 AND 2.0.2 - would that be right?
Hi Vonne,
2.0.2 is the one I'm looking for.
As the file will be around 40MB in size, can you please upload it to Rapidshare and PM the file ID that you get from Rapidshare to me?
Uploading will take quite some time I'm afraid, I hope this isn't too much of a problem for you.
Thanks for helping me out!
Cheers Marc
Well, in case somebody else has the same unwanted behaviour of HTC Sync 2.0.4:
Vonne was so kind to send a copy of her 2.0.2 version to me (thanks Vonne!), which I installed after uninstalling 2.0.4.
Result: 2.0.2 has the same problem as 2.0.4!
The culprit process HCTVBTServer.exe still leaks handles (2 additional handles every 4 seconds) when the Hero is disconnected from the pc.
As a workaround I now suspend and resume HCTVBTServer manually (well, actually via 2 tiny batch programs on my desktop), to get rid of the blinking hourglass icon and several thousands of leaked memory handles.
Cheers, Marc
Pity it didn't work! I'm curious though to know if it's HTC Sync that's causing the annoying hourglass? I use a netbook and it seems to have a million background processes that cause a spinning hourglass
I too have hourglasses flashing now and then due to background processes doing stuff, but never one at a regular interval like this (every 4 seconds).
Googled around a bit and found the link mentioned in my startpost. One of the guys in that link had discovered that one of the four HTC Sync processes (HTCVBTServer) is leaking handles when the phone is disconnected. Killing this process via the Windows Task Manager stopped my flashing hourglass, so: gotcha!
Marc
haha, well, there I was going along blithely ignoring flashing hourglasses all over the place.....turns out I do have one that flashes ever 4 seconds...just checked! Don't know if I have the energy to be turning stuff on and off though.

random Network connectvity loss after app installs and reboot?

Is anyone experiencing a loss of network connection after installing a bunch of apps and then rebooting?
Its as if one or two of the apps are modifying the network settings (to something non CDMA based I suspect, since most apps were written prior to CDMA exposure), then after reboot network connection fails, all the sprint desktop default widgets force close (no network connection), and any attempt to get into network settings (or to toggle on/off mobile network via the power menu) results in a force close as well.
The only solution to date is a complete data wipe and reset, forcing you to re-install and simply never let the battery run down or reset the phone for ANY reason.
This is my 2nd phone doing this now, its got me really worried.
Anyone have any ideas?
Wow, am I the only one? And through 2 phones, damn.

sounds like an account provisioning problem to me, nothing from the marketplace changes apn (or whatever cdma calls acct. settings) i'd talk to somebody "in the know" at a sprint corp. store, or with customer service.
I am having the same issue...I already did a wipe 3 times on my phone because anything I try to do force closes...I've talked to sprint and everything is correct on my account...provisioning wise and no one has a clue what
I am talking about
I too am having the same problem. Have you guys had this issue after a fresh hard reboot or only after installing apps?
Happens (randomly) whether I install apps or not, and it seems to be a random amount of time.
Sprint Tech support had me do a dial pad code something like ##768# menu or close to that (call sprint tell your issue they will give you the code), course you cant even do that without a recovery wip4e since the dialer crashes every time you hit it. My only theory is PDANET, anyone else loose connection fairly soon after PDANET install? Since its typically installed via side load (not the typical apk installer in the OS), or maybe Sprint detects it and shuts us down, they are not kindly toward tethering in my opinion.
i've never installed pdanet, so i'm certain it's not the issue.
Ive been having the same problem since the day I got the phone. I originally thought it was related to pandora, but now I dont see any correlation between what programs I have and when the problem happens.
It isnt any one program. I have found if I go over 70 installed apps it will do it till you remove a program or two to get back to 70 or less. You dont have to hard reset. I have not come across a solution to this yet and I am not rooted either.

Do all of you with this issue have that many apps installed? It sounds like so many things are starting at boot-up that it's overloading the memory. Android (just like other smartphone OS's) has a feature that auto kills tasks when it gets low on memory. If you have 70 apps there is a good chance that a large number of them are starting at boot-up whether you realize it or not. So it sounds like the result is Android just starts killing tasks at random to free memory and it's not doing it in a very graceful way.
That theory only works if all of you have a huge amount of apps though.
I thought the same but its not other programs starting. i have tried with just games, which dont auto start and same problem. are any rooted users having this issue? i have to delete a program to try a new one. 70 sounds like alot but it ain't.

70 games is likely to be over 100 megs. With all the Sprint and HTC stuff on there already if you add in 70 games and they are over 100mb then you are probably maxing out your space. Can you check your free space and free memory and report back?
30mb left it is a limit. i have 70 apps and if i install 1 more i wont have service and everything forces closed until i uninstall any app to get me to 70 again.
It's an app limit. It seems to only be on the Sprint Hero, and I can confirm it on three phones, the exact number of apps seems to be phone specific, but it happens somewhere between 70 and 80 apps, usually in the low 70's. The size of the apps doesn't matter, things like browser skins count for this as well. After you exceed the number, the phone becomes broken after reboot, until you remove apps, and reboot again.
Using google brought me to a thread on another android forum with posts from people who have run into this also.
My current solution has been to use ASTRO to backup apps 60 + to the SD card. Then in case the phone reboots (a rare enough occurrence), I uninstall a set of apps, reboot and reinstall them from the SD card. It is a very annoying workaround, and I would really hope that HTC ends up fixing this somehow.
Does anyone know if this problem goes away with one of the custom roms?
I am having this same issue, but I am not downloading apps. It just goes off and on every minute or so. I don't have to be doing anything. In settings it says standing by for connection, it may finally connect then in about a minute it goes off again

TouchFLO 3D home screen freezes

Sometimes I just hate my phone. I have an AT&T HTC Pure. I haven't done any modifications to the ROM or anything, just installing a few apps. Today my phone turned itself off due to low battery, so I put it on the charger for a couple hours. When I needed it again I turned it on and the HTC TouchFLO 3D loaded, showing my background and the big ugly clock along with my appointments. I noticed after a few minutes the time was off by... a few minutes. The screen had completely frozen. I couldn't use the slider at all. There goes my People, Music, Calendar, Weather, and Programs tabs I use all the time. I soft reset and it comes back, looking normal. I go to use the slider and it freezes in mid-motion... never to move again. I press the Start button and my Start menu comes up. I close the Start menu and I can still see it, although it doesn't respond and the X is gone from the upper right-hand corner. I tap the Notifications bar and my notifications show up. I click close and it's still up, just not responding to taps (frozen is my guess). I've reset it a multitude of ways now all with the same result... even taking out the battery.
I don't get this. It was working fine just a short while ago. I've reset the thing before and not had this problem. I haven't installed any apps since the last time I had to turn it off due to low battery, and it came up fine from that. What could be causing this?
The real thing is this has happened before. It's like if it ever has to reload the TouchFLO interface it just bombs 1 out of 20 times. Hell I was playing around with Android for the thing, which resets the phone when you want to go back into Windows, and not had this problem the whole time I was testing it. If my phone shuts down, roll the dice and I might get lucky enough for it to come back without this problem.
I resolved it before by doing a hard reset. Lost all my stuff. That sucks for what seems no good reason at all. It's not like I was modifying system files or screwing with registry settings. It isn't even a custom ROM.
Any insight on what could be causing this, and how to get it back to normal?
I'm regretting not buying an Android phone every day anyway, but thanks to 2yr service agreements and lack of sufficient disposable income to dump AT&T I'm stuck with this thing for a while.
Thanks in advance for any help and understanding!
Your issue is that you are on the stock ROM.
That's why XDA exists, because stock ROMs are full of bloatware, eating up memory, and lacking any performance tweaks.
Cooked ROMs are not a cause of issues but a solution.
I hated my phone out of the box, but now it rocks...
With that, if you are going to stay stock, I suggest you get a backup program and hard reset.
At this point I'm very interested in custom ROMs, yet I know little about them. Looks like its time to get on it and read up what I can.

Start with the Hard SPL thread. A link is located in the 2nd sticky.
This is the precursor to flashing a custom ROM.
Once successful, you can cruise the ROM forum for the ROM of your liking.
It's things like this that make me so glad I found this site
You can try installing "CleanRAM" and running it after every initial boot to clear excess memory. You can also configure CleanRAM to schedule your memory cleaning. I recommend you to use "Level 2" cleaning though.

Unfortunately CleanRAM does absolutely nothing. When TouchFLO 3D re-loads it lasts almost literally 2 seconds before freezing at whatever I'm doing. I've even used the customized process cleaner to stop as many processes as I could (or just manila.exe) and it still will freeze when the interface comes up.
I've been able to get it to the standard Windows Default look and it works now, so that will enable me to back up what I'm going to. If I'm going to have to do a hard reset anyway, might as well put something better on there.
Maybe this might help
i experianced the same problem and the cause was i sync my entire e-mail acc. on the pure and it ran ok untill i restarted it and it boom hanged.
So i cleaned up the entire messaging folder under \Windows\
At restarted it and it was fine
So i suggest dont sync up entire e-mail in any form i.e headers only etc.
If this helps do P.M me
I installed a custom rom from dutty, and now it completely dies while in standby, have to remove the battery to boot it up again. Looks like I traded one critical problem for another.

Did you hard reset after flashing?
Also, which version of Dutty's did you install?
