it is possible ?
I'm using the KAISER, when in a building i set the brightness to low becuase it has a very bright screen and it's just a waste of battery
But when i go outside i can't see a thing, need to set it to high again
And then i just forget to set it to low again
is it possible to make it be automatic ?
(bright outside - high brightness, dark outside - low brightness)
Thanks !
p.s.
does the KAISER have a light sensor like the Universal's keyboard light sensor ?
if so, is it possible to use that ?
ah man i hear you. when my sister got her blackberry pearl, and i saw it automatically change brightness, i was jealous. aha. unfortunately, the sensor is hardware thing.
i'm not sure about the kaiser but i know the hermes has a keyboard light sensor, but it's on the keyboard, and only says whether to turn on the keyboard backlight or not. not too useful, i'd think.
Hermes and Kaiser have front cameras...
but camera is a no-no for battery
Even once a minute, or on power-on?
Well, maybe yes.
I nice Solution would be a Button you press it, and the Brightness gets configurated automaticly: perfect for battery because you do this only on need!
And there could be a standart brightness reseted after having standby on
I dont know how to use the Camera in VB.Net someone knows?
I was thinking more in the direction of the front camera and the timer ....but bettery above all .... if it is possible it would be awsome !
the buton pressing idea is (forgive me) pointless ... if i wanted to press a button i might as well press the on screen button i already have ! (spb mobile shell)
thanks for the idea though !
it's great to see so many people taking interest, hope it will stick !
SPB software is my solution. You can map your jog dialer for brightness. I use that for volume, so I use touch screen to slide my brightness.

look at the screenshot or demo. Map the brightness as botton4 is a option because brightness is a program link for you to set what ever button as you wish.
blah, i have an at&t 8525, so i forgot about the front facing camera. my current solution is to set the backlight to reasonable indoor setting, and i have VJLumos mapped to my Button5 press&hold. so whenever i go outside, I run VJLumos, and when I get back inside, I run VJLumos again (which turns it off) and it automatically goes back to the previous backlight setting.

hi all
i need some help from you guys
I have a vario II serial 632 and I have notice that when you switch on the phone and my t-mobile logo is a bit dim at start and then goes bright for a second and then bit dim and stays that way in the desktop mode, not to0 dim but this is the help I need form you guys as i have no accesses to another vario II to test. I have also noticed that when you switch on camera the screen goes brighter the same brightness as the logo brightness (for a second ) and stays that way. Then if u press ok button ( not the cross or application close button) the application gets minimized and u can see desktop bright for a second and goes dim again and go back to cam goes bright again. But close cam and screen come back to a different brightness same as desktop brightness.
I was wondering if this normal or is it just with my handset. As I can still get it changed by t-mobile if its faulty
any help would be really Appreciated
thanks in advance
This is normal behaviour, every Hermes device does that. I think having that very high level of brightness active all the time would make the backlight lamps age really quickly and eventually make them unusable. That is why HTC decided to only use it in the camera application where you need it to be able to use the display as viewfinder also in rather bright sunlight.
Cheers
Daniel
I used my Magician at SuperBrite for a year and it's as bright as ever. I think the phone will be obsolete before the screen will be, which is why I wrote VJLumos I, II and III.
VJLumos III, available on this forum, makes the Hermes super brite all the time.
(And if the screen lamp fades < 1 year, I guess you're covered by your warranty).

thanks a lot guys
you guys are great
Camera mode brightens the display by 2 notch... to enable u to usethe display as a good viewfinder even on a daylight..
Hi All,
Got, (Finally) my Tytn 3 days ago.
2 quick questions, (that might sound stupid to some of you.... )
1. is there a key-light on the QWERTY keyboard?
2. when I'm outdoors, (sun light) the screen is almost unreadable....
Any suggestions?
Thanks
1) yes.
2) increase backlight

1) yes.
2) increase backlight
Click to collapse
so how do I turn the keyboard light on?
The brightness is set to MAX......
10x
the keyboard light turns on automatically when the room brightness is not enough (there's a light sensor between the "P" key and the green phone key)
For screen backlight.. I don't know.. mine works well even in high sunlight (when set to maximum brightness) however there's a tool from vj that increases backlight over the maximum value (like when you start the "camera mode") but as far as I know it can be used for small amounts of time (if you don't want to damage your device)

VJ has an app that will allow the screen to overbright like it does for the camera. It is in the latest WM6 rom. its called BrightScreen.
This helps a little in really sunny places but I also find the screen hard to read outdoors.
The Keyboard has an auto sensor that should activate it only in low light conditions. Change this setting under Settings > Buttons > Backlight Tab

I sticked a glare-reducing screen protector on it.
(Despite my nickname, which cause confusion, I'm not the vijay mentioned in the thread )

While playing with my HERMES I noticed the following:
First:
The screen is not as bright as on the WIZARD!
Second:
When turning on the camera you shortly can see that the backlight gets increased while opening the CAMERA application. Now, that tells me that there could be a way to increase the background backlight permanently over its default maximum.
Has anyone an idea? I tried already to raise the registry values for backlight without success.
VJ's
There is a program by VJ called super bright I believe it what you are looking for, if so post a little love for VJ's hard work here is the link
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjlumosiii/vjlumosiii.exe
Well, it makes the screen nice and bright - that's for sure!
The drawback's on this neat little application: You can't shut it down other than restarting the PDA, you can't adjust brightness and you can't use the CAMERA as long as the application runs.
I just wonder if the brightness could be increased via Registry Hack - that would be great!
how very odd! i've noticed that comparing my Vario I (Wizard) with my Vario II (Hermes) the Hermes has a considerably better and brighter screen! the colours are a lot more 'fuller'!
i havent tried the 'VJ' app, but will do when i get home,
why would you want it so bright anyway?!
Well, the brightness helps while watching a movie on the go!
Also if you do some work on the road or navigation in the car it comes in handy. I just wish the application mentioned above would not have so many side effects ...

I just 'click or ok' Super Bright the same way to turn it on or off (no pda restarts needed).
Run the program again to shut it off. I mapped it to one of the hardware buttons.
Thank you vijay555!
I've just bought a Touch 3G and as far as I can tell the Auto setting for the Backlight doesn't seem to do anything. As my last phone (P3300) didn't have this, what should I be expecting to happen? I've tried putting a finger over what I think is the sensor (right hand "LED", beside speaker) and nothing changes.
Thanks, W.
Did you set Auto adjust backlight in system menu?
Imho it is a really subtle effect. You can see it a bit when holding the light sensor (right to the speaker) to a bright light source. The display then gets a little bit brighter.
If you would like to increase the effect or customize the stepping, try g-light ( http://www.ageye.de/index.php?s=glight/about ), it lets you set specific values for each reported value from the sensor, and set the polling interval
Jade auto adjust is poor
I had the diamond prior to purchasing the jade. The diamond auto light adjust was very noticeable compared to the jade. In fact I didn't think the Jade even had a light sensor until one of the other users pointed it out.
After a little research I found this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450318
I used it on my Jade and it works great. One of my problems with the diamond was the fact that the light would not automatically dim enough in low light conditions.
Thanks for the link. Now using G-Light which works pretty well. Not perfect as its sometimes a bit erratic but certainly makes better use of the light-sensor than HTC!
Hello
I have a problem with my 8525 hardware keyboard.
I have the backlight auto sensor enabled and the light doesnt turn on when i slide my phone open.
But... when its on the charger it works
Whats the problem??
Im using joshes m2d light 3g rom
Thanks in advance!
Does it turn on after you start typing or does it stay dark?
it does turn on after i start typing,
but i would like to get the sensor to start working
so it will turn on when i slide the phone open
Backlight issue
I've discovered from just using my 8525 that the backlight to the keyboard goes on when I first press a key on the keyboard but only if the light in the room is very low. Sometimes it seems like the light level in the room is low enough but the backlight still doesn't go on. Too bad there isn't a low-light level adjustment for the backlight feature.
Just so folk know - it is possible to set it up so when you open the keyboard it lights up regardless of the light level and key presses. Right now I can't remember how!! but I set mine up that way ages ago. Does use more battery power however so it is not necessarily a good thing - but looks pretty.
