Wifi Woes! Help! - Mogul, XV6800 General

I hard reset my phone because it became cluttered with crap... and now its been running great off the stock rom with all my favorite programs and such, but I cannot get a stable wifi connection? My home connection was working fine before the reset, and I never used any network management software besides what was stock on the phone...
I do use WEP protection with a simple 10 digit password to access the network, but it works fine wirelessly on my pc, laptop and my psp
Any ideas? If i can get a connection (sitting next to the Wireless Router) it lasts for maybe 10 seconds before disconnecting and can't be found for 10 or so more minutes

Sorry, no answer for you, but on the topic of WiFi woes...
Is there a way to get a network to stay on the list permanently. I connect to about 5 different networks throughout the day and by the end of the day, my home network is no longer on the list and I have to manually add it again. Kind of annoying since I have to do it every day.

8525 and wifi

Hi,
I've been a palm user for ages but now but i was trully missing wifi capabilities on my past units... Since my enfora wifi sled for treo died on me I made research for a new smartphone that would do wifi and I ended up picking htc hermes.
Everything works fine so far BUT WIFI(the sole reason i went for that unit).
First test : I have an old netgear wep and 802.11b only router at home used as a switch. Tried to get it to work with it with wep no go, without encryption no luck. Says connecting, then all of a sudden, the network becomes unavailable for few seconds and then pops back as avail... tries to connect again, unavail and this goes on forever...
Second test : there is a unencrypt wireless network detected, said to myself I would *try* it. Magic, it gets an ip and everything. I can connect to the AP with IE. I didnt tried to axs internet or do further, it was connected !
Third test: @work, Ive read on forums ppl had working wifi with WPA+tkip. At work I have a couple of linksys WAP54GX, so i did setup a WPA + TKIP wireless network. It worked the first day. I was pretty happy, finally wifi DID work. Could SSH to boxes browse internet everything was fine.
The day after, I decide to install opera mobile. It worked like a charm for an hour... then all of a sudden everything was slow as hell -> soft reset. To my suprise, the config that was working few mins ago wasnt working anymore... Now even the WPA+TKIP setup that was working few hours ago stopped working. Same deal, connecting... , then wireless network goes unavail, goes back avail and fails to connect.
Anyone experienced similar issues ? I doubt its HW related since it did work for a day... and i still can connect to the unsecure wifi from neighboors (that always worked). Is there any application or tools or simply logs I could dig in to figure out out what is going on ? I mean if it wont connect id like an error msg not the whole ap go unavail for 1 min then pops back like nothing.
Is there anything avail for troubleshooting wifi connections in windows mobile or we only have the M$ way of having no information whatsoever ?

WiFi useless in my opinion on the Xperia

1. It disconnects automatically too frequently
2. I have a secure network and I have to enter the 100 digit (seems like) password everytime
3. Sometimes wont' connect at all.
The signal strength is 100% too.
Anybody else have this issue???
Is there a program that can monitor and connect automatically (remembering password) to help me???
Many thanks.
Mine is OK. Only have to enter the password once for the first time. Mine only disconnect when I turn the WiFi off via Communication Manager.
Im with craven.... My WiFi works perfectly.
My WiFi works flawlessly.
There is SPB Wireless for monitoring only.It does not help you reconnect. Good program.
Did you try to adjust the slider on WiFi settings towards Best Performance instead of Best Battery (it's on Power Mode in WiFi settings, from Communications Manager) ?
Maybe you have installed some crappy sofware that takes over your wireless settings(it happend to me when i installed some software- i don't remember it's name right now).
nope mine's ok. doesn't turn unless you specify. Reception is not bad either.
no problem with my xperia...
No problem with Linksys WRT54GL at all. Maybe you should check your router's settings.
Only twice had I needed to re-enter my WPA passkey, but otherwise it's great. Able to enjoy the web whilst in bed and a lot faster than my old P990.
It happened to me twice.
Though no problem lately.
As a little trick, you can use a text file (or whatever code protection software) to store the key and do a copy/paste if you don't want to type the code all over again.
I had this problem at first... I didnt know why it would keep disconnecting...then i figured it out..the wifi disconnects when the phone is in standby. Schaps advanced configuration tool fixed it quick and now im enjoying it very much =)
many people have success upgrading the firmware of their routers to fix
such issues
wifi working grt in my x1
once i entered wep key
now its working grt
You shouldn't use WEP, you can crack WEP under a minute now and even if you use a while "mac" list it's not safe enough since you got the MAC addresses just listening the packets.
my x1 works perfect on wifi. not loosing connection, set up the wlan key at the first time and it was saved forever. have tried it on 5 wlans and everywhere without problems... is think wifi and the gps are the only things that are sophisticated 100% on the x1 ^^

Click to collapse
It is good only if you have a usb connection or 110/220V nearby as always on wifi drains the battery in a half day
BTW: the wifi reconnect after suspend is really fast here, almost every time 1-2 sec.
mine is just fine, my home wifi uses a 11 digit password, just had to put in once and never again, doesn't disconnect randomly, only when disable the wifi obviously.
you should check with your warranty, see if they can do something about it, cause your case isn't normal.
have you all changed it to best performance in the settings?
im sitting right next to my router...and it loses connection now? this is quite annoying. i put the slider in the middle.. i sometimes leave wifi on when im asleep at home. so i like to keep it in the middle? whats the deal?
haha...about the Xperia wifi problem, just off your bluetooth b4 u try to use the wifi.
i think xperia is sharing wifi and bluetooth in the same device support.
i been test many time....when open bluetooth the wifi is weak and keep disconnect..
if this problem can't slove it then i think u better send to service center to fix it.
I actually found a problem in the Wifi/Wireless configuration.
I have 2 WPA protected routers with long keys/passwords. I found that if I enter the keys for both, the X1 would only remember ONE of them. I tried this by trying to save the password on either one of the WPA routers, and would only remember the FIRST one entered. So if you entered a 2nd one, it would always forget it, and you would need to manually re-enter the password again. Sure, it would connect, but then after it disconnects or you leave the area, then re-enter the area, it already forgot the password again.
i dont have bluetooth on and this is getting pretty annoying..
are you guys all using best performance?

Wifi will not connect - HTC-8900

My phone will not connect to any wifi hotspots. At home I have gone through my router insuring there is the absolute least authentication: no key, no certificates, no filters. I have tried open routers elsewhere like at the local library and no luck.
When attempting to connect to a router the connection goes form available to connecting and back to available with no error message or change of any kind. My phone had worked previously but after sitting around for a few weeks it will now not connect to these routers it used to have no problem connecting to. I have done a hard reset once with AT&Ts bloatware (Tilt) once without as it is now and that has not helped.
I am using WM 6.0 (CE OS 5.2.1622 Build 18128.0.4.4). I have chosen for it to connect to the internet not work, I have set it for best performance not best battery and all other settings are default.
When I go through Wireless LAN in the settings and hit change network then try to connect and quickly hit ok to go back, the SSID, and BSSID come up for about 5 seconds and the signal quality is almost full strength. Mode is Infrastructure and Tx/Rx Rate never show any values. The same channel as my router is set (11).
I am at a loss for anything else to try. Any ideas would be appreciated. The only thing that was different from the last time it was used is that for the first time every during that time period the 3G network was used for internet but I would image even if this did change anything a hard reset would have reverted it as it worked fine after a previous hard reset months ago.

WiFi Discounnect

I've read on this for several days now, I've searched the forums and I just can't find an answer so here's my thread.
I've recently bought a G1 it's running JF_Holiday and I'm on AT&T with no dataplan. I have WiFi at home and at work and it's getting e-mails while I'm around the office that I care most about.
What I've found on the forums talks about Wifi shutting off while the phone is asleep. I have that solved with Wifi Lock. However, I juts can't get the phone to stay on a wifi network for an extended period of time. Both at work and at home if the phone is left for 30 minutes asleep in a strong signal location it disconnects from the wifi. The wifi will reconnect if shut off and turned back on.
Is there a solution to this anywhere? Just an app that I could turn on that would automatically reconnect to wifi indefinately would be nice. When I'm at work or home I'm not that worried about battery life I can charge it at any time. I am however, dissapointed that walking around work it can't stay connected to my e-mail. If I have to unlock it, disconnect/reconnect, and then wait to see if I have any e-mail I might as well walk back to my computer and look.
Also, I have Locale turned off, Battery Monitor turned off, and I can't think of any other app that could be messing with wifi. Can anyone help me here?
Edit: A few times it does manage to stay on for 1hr+ sitting at my desk. I guess it's possible that the problem is when there is a brief drop out in the signal it just doens't reconnect (or doesn't try enough times). Is there anything to address that? I was sure someone would have a way to aut-connect to a network indefinitely but I can't find that anywhere.
Wifi Disconnect
I might have found part of the problem. We use repeaters and a single SSID to cover a large area at work. I think there might be an issue with the G1 locking onto an accesspoint based on MAC address and not freely jumping between them. I've added one of the routers from the 2nd building as an accesspoint we'll see if that helps.
If that's the case can anyone help:
1 - Set it to swap access points based on signal strength
2 - Add all the access points, currently I try to find a spot that's out of range of the one I'm connected too and add a new network. It associates that network with the new AP and my signal strength goes up.
It might be that I just need a way to add multiple access points to the setup and then it will swap automatically, but it's hard to say b/c I honestly don't know where each AP is

WiFi Connection Unsuccessful Message

I've noticed that my [rooted] Vibrant frequently has trouble connecting, or staying connected, to WiFi networks.
At first I thought it was specific to my Verizon Actiontec WiFi router, however I've also noticed this at my office, where we use Motorola routers, as well as a few other locations that I frequent.
It's still possible that its a site-specific problem, but, less likely as I'm seeing this in a few locations.
Symptoms:
I configure my phone to connect to X network.
It successfully connects and all it fine.
I get out of range, it no longer sees network X and disconnects.
Some time later I return to my previous location and expect that in N seconds/minutes the phone will automatically reconnect.
A considerable amount of time passes and I notice it's still not connected.
I check the wifi settings and it days connection unsuccessful.
I tap the network, click connect and it works.
I've also noticed this after connecting to a network and the phone goes to 'sleep' or into an idle state. When a wake it up, it doesn't always automatically reconnect.
Anyone else seen this?
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.
i've had that problem. i am not sure what it was because I was rooted and Ryaned. I got sick of all the stupid lil bugs and had to wipe format and unroot. Now that I am back to the original condition, theres this sense of comfort knowing if something buggy happens, it's not "my" fault.
Thanks for the reply.
I noticed this prior to rooting and 'Ryan'ing'.
The capacitive buttons don't work all that well from time to time - specifically the Home button so maybe I should just exchange it. I'll call TMO tomorrow to see what they say.
