MicroSD wont read in my tilt - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Accessories

So today I was going to the store and i looked down and bam! 1gb microsd card right in front of me. I reach down and pick it up.. looks pretty good.. nothing visible wrong with it aside from a few little scrapes. Anyways I go to put it in my tilt and I do so when the device's screen is off and it turns the light on but it doesnt read the card.
My questions are
Could it be locked by the device it was used with before? (if thats possible)
and if so am I out of luck?

try and format it

How would I got about doing this?

Put it in to your desktop PC (in a card reader) and format it under Windows, or if you've not got a card reader (or a microSD to SD adapter) you could always use Resco Explorer 2007, on your device, to format it - http://www.resco.net. There's a trial available, but it's a "must have" utility and worth paying for IMO

corrupt SDCard wont format.

ok.
my SDCard is ****ed, basically. i thought a good old format would do the trick but i was sadly mistaken.
it can read and display pictures, but cannot display thumbnails.
it shows mp3 files in file managers but wont play them in any music player.
will sometimes let me copy files from the card to the computer but not the other way round.
files cannot be deleted from the card at all.
and now the strangest one, it seems to be unaffected by a complete format.
the format finishes, i can then open up the card (which now shows as empty) from the computer and move files to it, so i eject it and remount it and low and behold everything's there again except for the files i put on after the format.
i don't know what to do as i can't really do much without an SD card =/
anyone got any ideas?
same. mine's been corrupt for a while now with reformat only making it work for a few hours/days.
i'm not sure if this is the crappy card that came with it or the g1's fault...has there been many cases of this?
i'm just buying an 8gb microsd from microcenter for $20 in the next week...i'll deal with my current one until then.
Just buy a new one, its not like they're expensive.
My brand new 8 GB Kingston MicroSD(HC) simply refused to cooperate - The G1 never saw anything I wrote to it on my computer - the computer never saw anything saved by the camera to the microSD. To boot, it even only reported as < 500 MB on the G1. Using the HP USB mem tool (http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197) I came to the point where the G1 saw 4 GB, but still no way to transfer anything to or from the computer.
Finally, I found this http://rivviepop.wordpress.com/2008/11/11/fix-your-g1-android-messed-up-sd-card/ (requires Linux) that solved the situation. Now both my computer and G1 sees all of the card, and what's on it.Phew!

[Q] F#ckin SD Card!!!

Morning gents,
My SD card arrived today from Play.com, it's a 16Gb Sandisk Mobile mircoSDHC Card (at least that's what the card says lol), I dropped it striaght in my HD2 (ginderbread), needed formatting, so off it went...
Then it said the card was damaged.........so into the PC it goes, would you like to format? yes.........it does it's business then says windows cannot complete the format as write protection is on.....
So I has a browse about on here and the Panasonic SD Formatter seems to come up a lot so (you can see where this is going....;-)
Sets it off formatting, full format, adjustment off (then on), and it comes back saying "The Memory Card is write-protected. Please release the write protect switch."
Trouble is it's plugged straight into my systems build in reader...so no adapter, no switch AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Help!!!!

Built in readers from my experience can be very whiny. Try removing and reinserting the card. Sometimes it takes being inserted just right to be mounted properly.

Nah it's still doing it, would a "plug in usb reader" be better?
Will try and find one, worth a try...
Also my misses has the desire, so will try formatting the card in hers, see if that helps things along........FFS lol
Right tried in the desire, that just says it's safe to un-mount....wierd, won't format...
running out of ideas here...lol
Edit: screw it i'm sending it back, see what the replacement one is like...
My Kingston 16GB, use all normal
I am using Imation 16GB Class10 works wonderfully!!!
well...new card arrived and works fine lol
Partitioned and running great, weird

[Q] 32 gig card trouble

I have recently purchased a 32gb micro sd card. When I go to put new music on it, it shows from the pc side that it is loading on the external drive(g2 phone) and form the phone it says that it is on there. However when I disconnect the phone only the last album that I put on there stays and the music player will state that "this type of file cannot be played". I have formatted the card through the computer and to no avail, it acts the same.. I did format it on the Android and it worked, temporarily and could load music from my computer for a few days, then it stopped. I am clueless as to what is going on with it. p.s. I tried placing it in a card reader and it did the same, but i did not format it first that time. I seem to think the android is placing a bad file on it causing all these issues. (again I say this because when I format it through the phone it will work temorarilly) any help would be great, I really want toload my phone with music.

Put the same file on a known good SD card. If it stays, it's a bad card. Most of the time the company the card came from will replace it for free (like Wintec did with a bad card that couldn't handle an EXT4 partition).
It is not just one file, it can be multiple files, like I stated in the other thread (I apologize to do two on here, but I rarely have to ask for help, I am usually able to figure the problem out, but this one has got me) I have checked the card with h2test and it states that it does have 32 gigs on it but that the card is corrupt, I have formatted the quick way with sd formatter. What puzzles me is that at one time I was able to load more on it and now I cannot. I feel that there is a fix, I am just not finding it yet.(okay im testing while updating, if i uplug and replug the phone and place music on it, it will only keep the last folder, for instance i put nirvana nevermind on it, it will keep it, i then put a folder with two albums on it, say radiohead the bends and kid a, it will replace the last one , I am certain that space is not the issue, due to having placed less files on it the first time I restored the card agai)
Did you buy this card from ebay? A lot of counterfeit card on there. Cards that say they are 32gb but will only hold a quarter of that.

Try writing zeros with dd to the card... but be careful, dd will destroy anything you point it at, without hesitation. This is a typical dd command:
$dd if=/dev/zero bs=1M count=32000 of=/dev/somepartition
Where did you buy it? Like others have mentioned, it sounds like a counterfeit or broken card.
what is dd, and how can i tell if it is fake, every program ive used to check it goes through 29gigs of partition

DD is found in the terminal emulator on linux/unix systems. Be carefull, you can destroy everythign on a partition with it.
Also, you'll have to reformat afterwards ... the sdcard

Lots of the counterfeits are tampered with to report the "alleged" GB capacity. Its not until you try to transfer the files, that you run into problems and realize you were taken.
Again, where did you buy the card???
I apologize for not having answered your question, I bought it on eBay, I have been given a refund though. Where should I look for one at instead?
I got mine on amazon for like 55 bucks a few weeks ago been working great. It was a class 4 adata with a little blue usb card reader.
okay i bought a sandisk from a trusted store and again same thing, i am lost
What trusted store?
newegg class 4
Yup, that's about the must trusted store there is!
Any luck with lower capacity cards working? I'd say maybe its just a defective card. But its weird to have a string of bad luck like this. Is it possible the SD card tray on your phone is damaged?
Do you have an after market battery? Just curious...

Also do you use the turn mass storage mode on/off option?

Using larger than 8GB SD

I'm sorry to be bothering ya'll again but, I have a question in regards to usable SD card sizes to install CM7 on. Here is the issue I'm trying to work with. I'm going to be taking rather long bus ride fairly soon (southern Missouri to Copeland, Idaho) and I'm wanting to install a couple of compressed movies on my Nook to watch while traveling. I know I can just remove the CM7 SD card and install a card with movies on it and use the original Nook software, but I have problems ( big fat fingers ) removing and installing the cards in the Nook and I'm always nervous about breaking the Nook or a card. Are there any SD cards 16GB or larger that work reliably with CM7 and can the partition sections be made larger to hold a couple of movies? I would set this card up with CM7, make the partition for the movies larger and then install the movies I want to view. Is this even possible? I've been scanning the forum and don't seem to be seeing anything like I want to do.

If you already have your CM7 set up on the 8GB card and you just want to run it on a bigger card so you can watch movies, I have an item on my tips thread linked in my signature on how to do just that. Look at item B9 in the second post of that thread. You can also use partitioning software to "clone" the 8GB card to a bigger card.
The cloning would be nice, that way could keep my calendar, e-mail, programs, and chess game as they are. The one thing is that are the 16 GB class 4 Sandisk SD cards reliable for the CM7 as the smaller recommended 4 and 8 GB cards? I tried with a install on a 16 GB Kingston class 4 SD card and had an issue with freezing and forced close, though it is a card my granddaughter had used in her phone and gave to me when she got a larger one. It could have issues I guess, though it was working OK in her phone.

The Kingston class 4 should have been ok, but the Sandisk 16 class 4 are great. No issues at all.
I have 2 class 4 Sandisk 32GB cards. I use these with no issues. I had no end of issues with non-Sandisk cards.
Back to pester again.

I tried to copy the image from my working SD card to put it on a larger card before my trip but wasn't successful. I have been trying to finish the project since I returned with no success. I am using the Win32diskimager program but I am having a bit of a hitch. When I start up the program it will open up but all of the options ( cancel - read - write ) are grayed out and I cannot seem to make an image. I have redownloaded copies fresh and installed them into different folders, but I get the same result. Can anyone give me an idea of what I am doing wrong? I am doing all of this on a new desktop computer (well, new to me anyway) computer with Windows 7 and I'm using a USB card reader/writer as suggested. I thought maybe it was a problem with the card reader but I've tried 4 different brands, all with the same result. I've looked for more information but seem to be finding more porn sites than information. Sorry to be a pain in the backside
I am using a Sandisk 32 Gb Class 4 SD Card - I wrote Leapinlar's modification of the Verygreen Installer ("larger Version 4) using win32 disk imager, installed the Kanged CM7 build, and finally also installed the modded CWM recovery (the special one for SD Cards). I also made a nandroid backup to the card and CM7 on the SD card works flawlessly.
BTW, Amazon has a very good price on this 32 Gb card - got mine for $17.

GB. I think the problem with win32diskimager for you is you have not selected the card reader drive with the upper right hand box. Those lower boxes will stay greyed out until you have a drive selected in that box.

You also have to give it a file name prior to reading or writing... you'd think you could read the SD then give it a file name... but it doesn't work that way with Win32DiskImager
It appears that the USB on my "new" desktop was bad and causing the problem. Found this out after a smart young fella I let hunt squirrel on my property took a look at what I was trying to do.Took it back to the store where I purchased it and they replaced the motherboard under warranty. They weren't very happy about it as the only board they had for the processor was a bit on the expensive side and I had to persuade them that it would be better to make me happy, then themselves. I picked it up yesterday afternoon and worked with it last night. After a couple of tries I made an image and after a couple more had the image on my new 16 GB SD card. This morning after chores I installed a free partition manger and expanded the SD partition to take up the rest of the space, put it in the Nook and it booted right up. I'm so happy, I fired up the wood burning oven in the yard and I'm going to have me some roast chicken and roasted fresh vegetables for dinner tonight with a big bottle of cold, home brewed mead. Thanks to everyone for your help. Gonna try to put a movie on the card later and see if it will work later, unless I have more than one bottle of mead that is. This Nook stuff aint always easy but its getting to be a bit fun.
Ya gotta give it up, the man knows how to party.

[Q] SD card reading issue

Hi Guys! Recently my DVP felt down and the LCD is crashed so I would like to make a use of its SD card. Here I encountered some problems. Non of the card readers wants to open this card. It even doesn't show up as a mounted device (Debian). Is it somehow locked or so ? When I pack it back to DVP it works still fine. Any ideas how to format it to make use of it ?
Regards
I have the same exact issue as you!!
Dropped my DVP and cracked the screen. Still turns on, but can't see anything as the LCD is dead.
None of my card readers read the card. I have other SDHCs which open perfectly.
I would also like to know if there is some way to force format it.
My card reader drive on my laptop does not show up unless a card is inserted. Since it isn't reading the card, nothing is showing up.

This is a known issue, All windows phones lock the SD card and format it in an unreadable format.
There used to be a list in the HD2 WP7 section with devices that can reformat the SD card. (I believe nokia phones are among them).
Thanks man!
