What internet browser do most people use on there herald? right now I'm using Internet explorer, but i'm considering switching to opera or opera mini if it works better.
second is there a way to change the picture on s2u2 v0.2?
Most people use PIEplus or opera mini.
Also, i am not sure about changing pictures, but i know that the newest one has the ability to.

There's a program that was created to change the screens or at least to create them... I personally don't use s2u2, so I don't know how to.
i believe there is a newer version of S2U2.. i never used v0.2.. so don't know if i could help... but if u got the latest version of it..

I keep seeing the fancy looking home screen plug in for WM 6. Is there a similar home screen plug in from HTC for WM 5 that I can use with my 8525? If so how can I get it? Is it free? How do I install it? And I do not know how to do what you guys refer to as reg hacks - so should I just stay away from the topic? I did do some searching and everything comes up under WM 6, or it is not clear if it is WM 5 or 6. Also, I do not want to do anything that will void my warranty - will it? I appreciate any responses. Sorry for being the worlds biggest newbie.
I can't tell you too much about the HTC Home Screen because of I am not using it!
However, 'hacking' the registry will not avoid your warranty! In case you do something wrong: simply hard reset your device and everything should be back to normal and factory default!
If you want to be able to access your PDA's registry you will need a REGISTRY EDITOR installed on your PDA. There are plenty good ones out there! I personally use RESCO EXPLORER 2007 + REGISTRY ADD-IN. You can find a trial version here: http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp
To get your HOME SCREEN fancy looking: even here you can find lots of stuff without having to hack anything! One really good application which changes not only your TODAY SCREEN is SPB MOBILE SHELL - more info here: http://spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en
Both application I mentioned above are commercial products but trial versions are available as free download! There are hundreds of free application all over the web which will help you to personalize your PDA - just search Google and see what it comes up with!

Thanks. A couple quick questions. I can not tell if it is free or not. It has me agree to a bunch of legal stuff, but I do not see any mention of it being free/trial or what a charge would be? Do I do the CAB file?

Its free, dont know if it will work on wm5 havent seen a version working yet on wm5. I suggest just reading the forum for the next two weeks or so. After about a good 20 you will nolonger be a noob. At that time I would suggest upgrading to wm6 and you will have no issues getting this on your phone.

You can do the cab or the exe - what ever you prefer!
The cab file needs to be copied to the PPC, the setup you run directly on your desktop while your PPC is connected via ActiveSync or MDC.
Both programs I mentioned are running fine under Windows Mobile 5. I used them for more than a year on my T-Mobile MDA WM5 and later on my Hermes.
It looks as though the new Skyfire beta supports 640 resolution. Is there any workaround to get it to run on the X1? Even if it isn't full screen?
Tried the WVGA Fix, however it's still not working. Loads and lets me login, however it's only using a fifth of the screen on the left.
It works!! Go to get.skyfire.com with your IE browser and you will get a htc cab.. download and install it.. run wvga fix and it works...!!
I downloaded it form the Netherlands.. They say there is already a UK datacenter...
Doesn't work. I changed the resolution but when I wanna start Skyfire it keeps "connecting" without starting. When I cancel the whole thing the whole phone gets stuck...
I got it to work, but frankly I'll stick with PIE and opera. Sure the flash support is nice and all but I didn't like the UI. It felt low-res. I'm gonna wait for the next opera/PIE release.

How then? What did I do wrong?
I read on some news site like msmobiles.com or so that the browser does NOT work in all countrys right now !
I live in germany and it DOES work here ! (With WVGA Fix 2 of course)
The low-res look is caused because Skyfire "emulates" VGA right now, so it only "dublicates" the pixel (from QVGA) instead of using the VGA display to get a smoother image.
I guess future version will improve this. This is the first version to support VGA and it is still BETA
My two cents : Use Skyfire when you HAVE to open a FLASH site which does not work with Opera/Flash Lite.
Just installed the latest Skyfire beta. Yep; worked for me with the WVGA fix program.
Yeah it's a double-pixel resolution but things look good if you zoom in. In any case, its rendering of CSS and everything is flawless; just like IE does it.
No link to download a cab file to PC? Gotta access the URL through the phone?

I manage to get skyfire working, Iplayer works but sound goes after a minute
then comes back on unexpectedly then goes again what could be the problem?

I manage to get skyfire working sounds ok too,
for xperia the file is for touch version and my version that works has a file size of 584,909 bytes. Install to device, The version I have running for that cab says is version : 0.85.0.7927 remember to run wvga fix first and set to vga mode, Then start Skyfire
Also if you have a problem with it saying authenticate and checking data go to your phone connection settings and untick your proxy for your internet connection (effectively bypassing it)
p.s dont worry t-mobile users since your using the same acess point your data cost wont be affected depending if your on web,n walk (uk)

I've used IE6 from no2chem's NueROM-M 201 and it rocks! You can find download here for that ROM. I've heard not-so-good things about using IE6 before I actually used it, and I have to say it probably is one of those that you either love or hate. I happen to love it. New download manager, better zoom support, JS, CSS, Flash, switch between Desktop and Mobile code view. I have to say - as a web developer and WinMo user for the better part of two years - do everything you can to get this application. It is awesome!

Does the cab, IE6, replace IE Mobile? How is performance on the titan, with its limited memory, is IE6 actually usable or is it like Opera 9 (Out of memory errors)?
I'm on the NueROM as well and I found it to be very slow - especially when used to browse forums.

Unable to find app
I installed the cab, it asked to restart my phone, I did so and now I am unable to find any changes. I've repeated this process twice. The first time I installed to main memory with no joy. The second I installed to the memory card and was unable to locate any changes at all in any folders. I tried launching pIE to see if it was just a overall replacment also to no avail. I could use some help if I've don'e something incorrect.
Yeah I see no changes. Is this really the right cab? Hopfully if I uninstall it, it won't delete my mobile IE
Since I backed up everything, Im very daring.
I've tested this uninstall for you and it doesn't remove pIE
Im going to take apart the cab and see whats in it.

Hmm. The more I use the IE Mobile and read about it, the more it seems to be missing. I have the browser set to mobile view, yet it stays in full desktop style. Had this problem in NueROM and now in GaMedic's ROM. Was under the impression it doesn't work - now I wonder if it just isn't working on my Mogul for some reason.
EDIT - Oops. I need to clarify - the mobile/desktop toggle works in that it disguises my mobile when I goto sites that auto-detect. I really miss the One-Column style browsing. Any way to bring that back?

you wont get anywhere by typeing in iphone scrolling. The apple phone has kentic scrolling so try looking up something like that. All the custom roms have it built in so try those.

I don't know if there exists a cab like that, but if you want to have scrolling contacts, you can always use icontacts. If you want to scroll through internet pages, just use opera mini and you can scroll that way too.

it sounds like you're talking about touchflo. the best way to get touchflo on the wing is by flashing a rom with touchflo in it... it's very easy to flash a rom, if u have a wing, a data cable, and a computer with activesync you are ready to go... i have otp 7.4 lite by ttran01 very nice and leaves lots of room (40mb i believe) for you to install your own stuff and comes with touchflo preinstalled as well as opera mini built in along with a few other goodies like manila2d . hope this helps. just go into the roms part of the htc herald/wing section of the forum. good luck.
or you could always just install touchflo if u want to be gay about it, and that would give you the finger scrolling effect in internet explorer, contacts and just about any other screen where a scroll bar exists, but just remember a lot of people put many hours of hard work into creating the roms and some of them are bad ass.
just google touchflo app or look for it in the forums im lazy and don't feel like finding it for you

got the same problem on meinvz and other pages aswell.
just keep in mind ... the opera version u are using is still BETA. it has plenty of bugs (hardcoded text block formatting f.e.)
well ... we'll see what future versions and browser bring here.

Does it need flash or anything? I can't see anything using the dev tools

I found a support-mail-contactmailer on the webpage of opera and informed them about this issue. sent the link to this video as well.
perhaps I'll give the netFront a try...but I'd more like to use the opera...
the page doesn't use flash...but ajax. for opening message-windows (in the video you may see, it doesn't work with opera...)
well, I installed the new official rom and this issue has gone.
works find now. but ajax-messages won't open at all.

and I hate that you have to zoom in before you are able to click a link/input-field in the new build of opera.
hope they make this "feature" checkable per box in the settings.
