anyone can tell me how to download the map coming with garmin into xdaII and use it (xdaII) as GPS with tomtom or any other tools
Tomtom comes with its own maps, all you need is a connecting lead from the garmin to the xda2. It will use com 1 so make sure in settings/connections/beams that the beams box is unchecked.
You can't use Garmin maps with TomTom, map format is completely different.
I use my Garmin GPS V as GPS receiver in combination with TomTom.
But the features of the Garmin GPS software are much more advanced than TomTom's. TomTom is ok for driving from point a to point b, but you can't create your own routes on the pc, like with the Garmin Mapsource software.
It's a pitty Garmin doesn't make GPS software for the Pocket PC...
thanks cruisin-thru but do tom tom have maps for saudi arabia
thanks joe,
I am using garmin 3+
Khalid, I dont think so, however any nmea compliant mapping program will work with your garmin/xda2 and the proper cable.
Thanks cruisin
I have garmin xt working on my artemis but it needs a genuine garmin gps10 bluetooth aerial to work.
is there any way of getting garmin to connect with the built in gps......
ps how do you copy garmin sd card maps..after copying all the files from one sd card to another the unit miraculously recognises it as a copy ?????
me too, i'm also interested if garmin xt will work with the internal gps. i couldn't get it working on my artemis....would be great if someone knows a howto...
The problem with Garmin programs is that they look for Garmin formatted data stream from the GPS. The Artemis GPS provides a standard NMEA data stream. The only way to make Garmin work is to install a GPS port translation program, like GPSGate. It allows to direct the GPS output to a port the Garmin software will see and translate it to Garmin format. There is a freeware program that does the same, but at the moment I don't remember the name
I used garmin 2.90 with GPSgate and internal GPS, but I wasn't able to do it with XT, I wish there is a way, but I'm not sure GPSgate can do it. Because as far as I know, GPSgate creates a virtual port for garmin with the secret no. that your gps sends to your device, but that's not possible with XT because it does not give you the option to change ports, it automatically searches your bluetooth port.
Hi,
Does anyone recommend and GPS navigation products for the prophet? I have been looking around, and have had conflicting views on the TomTom mobile platform.
Any recommendations?
Cheers
I'm using iGo 2006 Plus with full Europe maps on only 1 GB SD card!
This program is very fast and optical very nice, because it's based on a game engine by PDAMill!

i'm using mapking, gpsgate with holux bluetooth device= Never let me down
iGo is the best
currently using holux bt gps receiver & garmin que s/w. not much maps/programs for us here in NZ. no problems using them
Used TT6 and a SiRF Star III bluetooth antenna for a while with no problems.
I use...
Tom Tom 6 with a generic bluetooth gps receiver, with Europe and North America maps on a 4 Gb SD card. Works beautifully, starts quickly and reliably.
I usually use it in the car (with a car windshield suction mount)
I have been using Google maps (free) with a gprs/edge connection but there is no voice guidance. I have a holux slim 240 bluetooth gps receiver which works good but sometimes it takes some time to find the satellites initially.
Destinator with Hollux
A Hollux receiver and Destinator 6.x works great for me.

GPS with Prophet
Most software are not bad..Best of all is the GarminXT with BT Holux 236.
I use TT6 and an Adadpt SirfIII BT reciever.
tried numerous other nav systems, but this one works the best around all europe, IMO.
I'm a courier IRL, so i have sh*tloads of experience with satnav systems

So does anyone have TOM TOM maps loaded on a SD card to use as GPS instead of having to connect to a GPS unit with their WING?
I saw a guy once who had the whole Tom Tom setup on his MDA and had all the maps loaded on his mem card to access them.
Any thoughts guys?
I´m not sure what you are going after here but if you have the TomTom dvd it will install maps to your SD card and you can access them without having a GPS unit, and plan routes. You cannot however use it to navigate in realtime since the Wing doesn´t have built-in GPS reciever. For that to work you wold need a bluetooth GPS receiver.
what gps software do u currently use on ur HD2......
Copilot Live8 ....
CoPilot8 and loving it!!!
i use iGo8 simply because it doesnt use data when i use it, and it was free.
Great navigation app even told me i was speeding haha
Copilot Live 8, works well and for 29.99 you cant beat the price.

I wasn't aware that iGo8 had a version with U.S. maps? Seems they only cover Europe...
http://navngo.com/pages/global/eng/maps
I've got both TomTom and CoPilot Live 8.
I prefer CoPilot.
IGO8
I'm not allowed to post a url yet since I'm a new member, but its gpsunderground.com then go to IGO
and yes there are North American maps. I have it installed on my nokia 500 and it works great.

Does IGO require a data connection?
Not if you preload the maps.
Copilot 8 & Garmin XT
Garmin Mobile XT, iGo8, and CamerAware Buddy
Garmin Mobile XT. It's the same as my Garmin Nuvi, so I sold it. It was that good.
Co Pilot 8 all the way best value in town

I just installed Igo8 and my gps isnt being detected...any ideas why?
Did u install it properly? let it load completely on its first start?
also i noticed when im in doors the gps doesnt work =/
I am using Garmin and iGO, but there is a problem with iGo, it doesn't report correct info, when it says turn left in 600 feet i am 10 feet away from the actual turn and when i get to the corner it jumps from 600 to 10 feet in seconds, i guess it thinks i have a Ferrari.
Garmin xt all the way!!!!
I use Pharos Ostia. I used it on my Samsung i730 (WM5) and Pharos lets me download whatever maps I need. I used the BT GPS antenna that came with it for my old phone, but since the HD2's GPS comm port is unlocked (unlike i730) I just use the internal antenna.
Pharos Ostia is a great program. I've been using it since '07.
Igo8 is my favorite
