I Have A Tmobile Wing, I Have Already Changed The Splash Screen But I Know It Has To Be A Way To Change The Startup Sound Just Like I Changed The Splash Screen. What File Format Does It Have To Be In And What Do I Call It? Also If There A Size Limit On The Sound Byte?
anybody??
look for a sound called startup or some thing like this in \windows folder..or u can use Audio Boot ( a s/w)
Change Start-up Sound
First you have to have a Registry program like Resco.
Find or create a .wav file and copy it into your windows directory with whatever name you want, just remember exactly what you called it.
Open your Registry program and got to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
HTC
Startup Animation
The bottom two should be Volumn and WAVfile
If there is already something there just change the string to your file name. If nothing there you will have to add as follows.
Choose WAVfile Name = Wavfile and string = \Windows\yourfilenamehere.wav
Choose Volumen Dword data =4555 and Base= dec
Click Done and Exit Perform soft reset and watch and listen. I'm no Pro, but that should be correct. Let me know.
Edit- I double checked the setup in my device TILT and this is what I had.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"Volumn"=dword:000003E8
"WAVFile"="\Windows\YourFileNameHere.wav"
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"GIFFile"="\Windows\animated.gif"
"Priority"=dword:000000C8
worked great, thanks. also i say the tmobile startup wall paper, i can change that the same exact way i changed my splash screen and just edit the registry value correct?
T-Mobile Start screen
If you are refering to the very first Boot screen then NO. You have to flash that with RUU like you do a ROM. The animated.gif file and the
welcomehead.96.png are easily done. You just have to name them as above and use Resco File Explorer to drop into Windows directory and overwrite the original file. If you want to keep the old file and not overwrite just rename it by adding a "2" after the file name that way you know which one is which. That way you can just rename it again to the original if you want to put it back. Glad to actually help someone, Kevin
Been experimenting a bit with this as well...
Works all fine but I just don't understand the "Volumn" registry value. On my Hermes, it was set to 9 by default, giving a pretty loud startup sound. On my Kaiser I set it to 4555 now before I could even hear it, and still it's pretty silent. Both are running WM 6.1.
Any logic behind this? (except maybe that a Kaiser isn't a Hermes )
You can use Schap's adv config, didn't work for me on my Touch, maybe it will work for you. But, I manually changed the sound. It's either startup.wav or silent.wav.
Works half now
Some sounds are played okay, but I tried the Diamond startup sound and that one just makes a strange noise instead of the real sound... Works fine when playing it in Media Player
I'll just keep messing with it some more

It's a quick way to return to the home screen, but my device beeps every time I press it. I have all the volumes turned down (the phone is on vibrate).
Cheers
i think it is a bug in the software, i have same problem
There's two sounds being played when you press that button. The first you can change using the following:
get a registry editor and change the following:
Code:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Ending\Sound = "Midi2Wave_079_4098.wav" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
You can't just remove the value, as it'll default to "dpadctl.mid". So what you'll want to do first is make a silent .wav file (I've attached one for your convenience), copy that to your device's "\Windows\" folder then change that value to point to it. E.g.
Code:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Ending\Sound = "silent.wav" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
Note that this will affect the sound being played when you're in a phonecall, too - so you won't hear that you've pressed the button. At least, not with that sound.
That is the major sound being played. There is another sound being played, at a much lower volume, and you may be perfectly satisfied with the result so far.
If you want to get rid of the 'click' sound as well, you'll have to replace the file "\Windows\hwandsw.wav". You can do this by first copying "silence.wav" to "hwandsw.wav" on your desktop. Now copy this file to your PocketPC's "\Temp\" folder or so - you can't copy directly to the "\Windows\" folder. Now on your PocketPC itself, copy the file from "\Temp\" to "\Windows\", and tell it to overwrite the file.
Now when you press the end button, you should get no sound at all.
Unfortunately this, too, affects other things that would use that sound. Such as selecting from a pop-up menu such as the Start menu and context menus. As such, I recommend making a backup of the original "hwandsw.wav" file so that you can restore it should you decide that the lack of that particular sound in other places is worse than hearing it quietly when you press the End key.
Good luck
alternativly , goto settings>phone>
On first Tab,
Under "keypad" set it to "off". This will disable the sound for the button as well as the keypad. Everything will still work, even to those automatic system, just no audiable feedback.

Thank you so much that "click" when I hit the "end" button would drive me nuts...this worked perfect!!!
MenuPop
There is also a file (MenuPop.wav) that can be overwritten to get ride of the annoying click (pop) sounds when you tap the start menu.

Yep - just keep in mind that this, too, will affect other menus as well. Any pop-up menu, including context menus from tap-and-hold, will no longer 'pop' (not an issue to me, but hey)
The title says everything!! i was thinking the scratch sound the old moto V80 made, or maybe something else. If anyone knows how to change it please let me know!!
Thanks
I just turn the sound off, but I do remember reading somewhere about adding new sounds. I'll look around.
re
currently i have it off too but i would like to customize it!! anyone else have any thoughts??
My Herald came with a HTC app. preinstalled that enabled me to turn it off or specify another sound. It's in the registry somewhere if the app isn't installed btw.
Where can I put new sounds for the keyboard? I can only choose betwen 3 sounds. (I have the application installed)

think u have to put em in the windows folder, and they have to be *.wav
havnt tested myself but should work
Look for a key in the registry called "SlidingSound". It has 3 keys, "0", "1", and "2", each corresponding to the 3 sound options. Copy the .wav files you want into the windows directory. Choose any one of the 3 keys and change the "in" and "out" string values to the sounds you want. I tried this and it worked. I think I'll make my slide out sound like a cash register until it becomes more annoying than humorous.

where are you finding that in the registry? I found the slidingsound in the registry...but nothing where it shows the other tones or me having the ability to add mine...I'm using total commander
never mind...found the registry...but new problem is total commander won't let me copy and past the wav files that I want to use into the windows directory. it won't allow me to replace the other slider sounds also...what am I doing wrong?

Gotta real easy guide that I made at the HoFo Forums.

Does anyone know the registry setting that initiates this? I am trying to get it to work for Hermes and have the Sliding Sound application installed.. and it recognizes my sounds, but it doesn't initialize when i open up the keyboard or close it.. any help would be appreciated
i LOVE the transformer sound for sliding the keyboard out! and your device IS ACTUALLY transforming!!!
Is it possible at all to do this?
Would be really nice

I can do better than that. I can point you to the cab I made of the relevant changes so all you need to do is install this one file!
Great job, but do tell if the video call button would come back or not if I uninstall the Cab file.
If not how can we bring it back if and when I want to
This freeware program is a great alternative. Includes a reset to default command.

i got a kinda similiar problem..except i wanna change my left soft key which now says TODAY SCREEN to watever da the default was..i think it was PHONE on my tf3d home screen..the reason it says TODAY SCREEN was after i uninstalled the phone alarm cab i was left wit dat..now i cant figure out how to change it back..i tried da fantasticbytes softkey manager didnt change anything..so if anyone can help or point me to right link link..really appreciate it..thanx
Can someone give me the registry path, so I can choose witch programma I like to map?
I have the new 2.03 ROM installed but want to change the dailer softkeys.
Thanks
You would have to find out a way to edit the DLL from post #4.
Unlike the softkeys from the homescreen the softkey on the dialer work totally different.
I didn't realise we were talking about the dialer when I posted above!
You can change the Left Softkey to the default contacts application (iContact BE on my phone) by setting the following registry DWORD to 1:
HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE\LSKContact
Cab file attached (my first ever)
Also, you can drop this file in your Windows dir. Just overwrite the original with Total Commander or Resco.

What does this DLL do?
Now I have standard Windows Contacts or Pocket Informant, but I want iContact set as default contact button. This because in the phonepad I can't switch to second phone number when using smartdail...

What does your cab file do?

It just sets that one registry value, changing the left soft key of the dialer to "Contacts".
This launches the default contacts application - normally pOutlook but it should be iContact if you have installed it.
I installed the new iContact 0.9 and now it is default contact manager
Thanks

does anyone no how to get the slider sound on my touch pro2
i think i do... :
on the homescreen.. go to the setting tab.. don't use that tab cuz it's **** but tap 'more' in lower left corner.. then you get all settings.. and then you must tap 'Personal'(it think.. in dutch it's called 'Persoonlijk') and there you have an icon about the slidersound where you can select one..
is this what you meant?
how do we get custom slider sounds?
my quick guess. Find the location those particular sound files are held, put the correct file type into that directory.
this is what i did on a stock tmo rom. create the sound files you want in .wav format. create one for in and one for out. rename them to whatever.xwav. open up a mobile reg editor on your pc. navigate to hkey_local_machine\software\htc\sliding sound. create a new reg key. under value data, name it whatever you want, preferably the name of your sound file , do not put the file extension. just name it like kbin1 or kbout1. now create a new string value for that key. under value data, you must name your sound file the same as your key. example,if i named the new regkey 4, in the new string, the value data would be 4_in.xwav. and the value name would be in. create a new string for the out sound and repeat the process.
sliding
i do believe the sliding sounds from the raphael work also. they have a couple of cabs over there. use the search
Why does it take so much freaking work to do simple changes? You would think adding custom slide sounds would be as simple as ploping the new sounds in a directory and selecting it!
Im not one to go mucking around in the registry myself.. guess ill have to do without.
dude just go to the settings tab in touch flo 3d, then click all settings then hit the personal tab and then hit the icon that says keyboard sliding sounds.
Anyone have any luck with this?
I am using the "transforming" sound from Transformers. I have it where I can at least hear it under the Keyboard Slide Sound settings if I select it and Preview it. But when actually opening/closing my keyboard, I dont hear the sound. Just a default quick beep sound.
* Nevermind. Needed to restart the phone. Now it works!
While it was nice to get it to work, now I get a cprog.exe error anytime I open or close the keyboard with my custom sound activated. Damn it. Why cant things just work!
Hi,
To my opinion (that's what I did), I have placed all my sounds on my storage card (mp3 files) then transformed them in .wav (in the Windows folder) and re-transformed them in .wma files (placed in the Windows/Rings folder).
This way all the sounds I have are available whichever soft or event I nedd them for...
Hope it will help you.

Thanks for this useful info. I used a desktop reg editor to navigate to the hive you specified, created key 5 and copied the contents of key 4 to it making the relevant changes to file names and names. Cracking job.
Where can I get "transforming" or other cool Slide sounds?
Can any one upload dem?
hi people, i would like to know what cab do i need to make this menus much smaller? i've found it before.... but i never downloaded it, thanks
You can use Advanced Config to reduce the font size in the menus.
thank you very much
But... I tried it and everytime i change the values, it auto resets when i restart... I'm using spb mobileshell by the way !
Really...strange. I've used spb and it has never fudged with those reg values.
When I changed the values in Advanced Config, I needed to soft reset before the changes would be applied anyway.
You can create a shortcut that applies the reg settings and put it in the Windows\Startup folder. Still that kind of hack should not be necessary. Perhaps you have some other program in Startup that is causing the problem.
you gave me the idea and i just tried... putting the folder on C:
and then i changed the values with the keyboard, it reseted... and stayed that way for a lonnggg time until i took out the battery and turn it on again
then I changed the value by holding the down button and then selected other stuffs and restarted and now it's ok
Thank you very much !!
Uhm...glad I could help, I think,
they should be a setting in the setup to do that.
Go to google, type in "htc small menu", click on the VERY first link you see. Brings you to a thread here at xda.
That's what you were talking about right?
If so then you're welcome .
Also: If you want to easily and fully customize the font for everything on the phone (size and font type), look into downloading something called ING Change Font.
