Idea: Top Bar Transparent - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi,
Top Bar is the essential on today screen cuz it show many notifications, time etc. So what i was thinking is that somebody make a program to transparent the whole top Bar or atleast it can change with the full screen wallpaper. It means the whole today can go with the wallpaper.
Hoping to see programmer put a hand in making it.
Thanks

And also a program for resizing the top bar would be cool.

nobody wants to even try...
i gaurantee this will be the most useful plugin for ppc user...
somebody should try to make it, cuz im not a prgrammer

Come on you programming gurus..
you had a full 5 hours to do this and no one has done it...
Were you guys sleeping or something?

I currently use VJTOGGLETODAY. Not sure where I got it from but if you do some diggin' I am sure you can find it. you can also look into wisbar adv. as it lets you configure your start button.
SoBBie

this is already possible - transparent bars are part of the theme.
search for home screen designer and have a play

VJ toggle today cannot do that thing and home screen designer is for smart phone only.

I know it is not exactly what your looking for, but here is what I did:
I use WA3, and in the theme I use, I took the top bar image and exchanged it with am image I made by taking my current wallpaper image, and copying the top part (same height as the top bar image in the theme), and named it the same name the top bar image had in the theme I use.
(Sorry if it got too wordy)
Although it isn't truly 'invisible' it does have the effect I wanted. I will try to post a screenshot later when I get home.

anybody willing to make a program on this...

Portrait Background

Hey guys I downloaded a theme to my phone but i do not like the portrait picture. How do i just change that picture to something else? Thanks!
SEARCH/READ THE USER'S MANUAL!!!! But, if you hold your stylus down on the picture you want as a background, you'll see the little circle things, then a list of options, like right clicking on a mouse, select set as desktop background. Then select how washed out you want it, and select ok. There, that was your freebie. Use Wiki and search the forum from now on.
no i want to change just the portrait picture. only when i slide my slider. i know how to do that. i remember seeing a deal about that now i cant find it.
I'm pretty sure there's no way to change JUST the portait picture. You mean like having 2 seperate desktop pitures with one to display in landscape, and the other in portrait, right?
Yeah. But I found a way of doing. Just a little more work than I intended. Thanks!
HEY! this is give and take here... So spill the beans, how did you do it?
Yeah! this I gotta know about. You may have found a secret no one knows. The other question is: how can you re-size a pic so that when it is used as a desktop background, it only uses a portion of the screen and doesn't obscure say the whole "black theme" in use?
I'll let you guys know as soon as i get it done. Haven't even tried yet. Been playing around with different ROMs to see which I like better. So far I'm diggin the Touch-It Light.
--slLy-Dee
if you want to change picure ionly in portrait mode, bud not landscape, you must force edit the Theme you want.... or, ... maybe if it is multiple images theme, just replace one of them, but most are 1 file, .... in that case you have no chance without any program..
Google search for ThemeGenCE. It works like a charm and allows one to change the portrait (slide closed) and landscape (slide open) to different pics. it will also change almost all of the colors. I'll try to post a screen shot of the Halo3 theme I built with it. I've built about 12 different .tsk files with it so far and all of them turned out pretty well. It will also let you import an existing theme and modify it. I used the black touch skin and applied my own pics.
It automatically resizes pics to fit the screen...
Yeah. That's what I was gonna play with but never had the chance. I forgot what the prog was that's why I never bothered. Thanks!!
the gloss from WM6 doesn't show up when you make a theme using ThemeGenCE?
The gloss???
wow thats nice....this will work with the wing correct???
Yes... I'm currently running it on a wing. I'm having some issues getting the color fades on the start bar to work. It has to do with the WM5 tab but the descriptions are a bit cryptic as to what fields they actually represent. So I built one with a LOT of really out there colors to see what field effects what part of the screen. If you don't use the stuff on the WM5 tab then it will just be solid colors. The Halo3 one wound up just being green instead of the orange/green fade at the top. That screenshot is from the previewer in the program not what actually wound up on the phone.

Probably a stupid question but what were the size image options you put in? In the options it asks about the size of the screen & the size of the start menu

Anyone with programing skills willing to help?

Hey all,
I recently bought my first PPC ever, the HTC Touch. Not very much later I discovered rlToday and designed a skin in Photoshop. Pi3cH coded it and I tweaked it some more. Besides rlToday I use S2U2, TodayShrink and PCM Keyboard.
The result can be viewed here...
For those who don't understand Dutch. Underneath the appointment is the task section (Total, Important, Today, Overdue)
Now I have some problems I can't resolve in rlToday. I saw Grump on this forum for example that made an app for the iPhone skin and I was wondering if some guys are willing to get this done for me as apps can do more than rlToday.
What am I missing and can't I get done with rlToday:
1) topbar should be something like iPhone or S2US style
No start logo but still its functionality when tapping the icon on the left, smaller than WM6 topbar and nicer icons for Wifi, BlueTooth and stuff.
2) Now I'm using Mortscript to get the appointment coming inside the screen, but I only get the first upcoming one. And if that appointment is now, the next one coming is shown underneath it.
I would rather always see the next y (2, maybe 3, or for the today and tomorrow for example) upcoming appointments along with the location (if available), rather than the 1st upcoming or current and next.
3) Get rid of the circle on the bottom 3 icons when the number of missed calls/new sms/new email is 0.
4) get a highlight effect when tapping one of the 3 bottom icons, just like TouchFlo Cube for example (see pic 6 at my rlToday skin of the Cube 6 app side I changed, it turns blue when tapped).
Just wondering if this is in any way possible, without having a slow and without battery/memory consuming.
No one that can help me out?
You might be able to accomplish this solely with Wisbar Advanced, Wisbar Advanced Desktop (WAD) and a today plug-in.
1) Wisbar Advanced can definately make the top bar look like an iphone. As an alternative you can just run WAD in full screen mode to get the same effect. You won't have the iphone top bar running all the time but just in this screen. But as a trade off it'll be one less program running in the background. Along with the visual customization, Wisbar does have a decent start menu.
2) Doesn't the built-in calendar show the next couple appointments? If not, then there might be some pre-existing today plug-ins that can fulfill this. You gotta do some searching in Google or on this board for that. Worst case scenario, asking someone to program you a today plug-in is a lot easier and quicker than doing a full GUI.
3) WAD already does this and you can see some of their iphone themes already have that. What they do is draw a background circle without any text. And then the top text is drawn using a command like %Unread:SMS%. There is commands to do this for missed phone calls and any other e-mail account you have setup in the device.
4) WAD allows you to have two button states. Normal and pressed. You just need to create two different images for each. I've also came across a thread here in XDA where Speechman created a couple WAD screens where the button would move a little bit. And then use Mortscript to tie it together where it'll make it look like the button (or perhaps the phone) vibrates when you press a button. Here is that post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1809601&postcount=9
5) To address your speed and memory concerns...I don't think WAD is that bad. It uses about 700-800KB of RAM. No noticeable speed down. If you or someone else builds a custom GUI it will most likely take up even more resources. But atleast this way you can get what you want with $20 worth of software and you have the option of customizing it any way you like in the future.

Thx, I've tried WA2 once, but I cannot change it the way I want it, way too much stuff you need to adjust to get it how you want it. I just want to get rid of the start logo and icon, and some nicer icons for signal, battery, wifi and stuff... the iPhone skin I downloaded was grey instead of the black I want and it changed some more icons and stuff I didn't like.
I've posted a request on WA2 forum for a WA2 skin with my wishes but no one ever replied.

Calendar+ is a plugin that works perfect for me, unfortunately I want to use it in the middle of my screen. That becomes a problem because both top and bottom part are rlToday skinned and you cannot run 2 rlToday plugins at one screen.

Will take a look at that.
Well with WA3 (it lets you have more control over the top bar icons) you just have to find a theme that's similar and tweak it. At that point it'll be just replacing graphics and modifying text files for placement. WAD is much easier to work with and you are just starting with a black background, add the bottom gradient, and setting the placement of 3 today plug-ins.

Look at Phone Alarm. This is probably what you will need to replace the bottom rlToday. Phone Alarm has a lot of skins available and you might find a minimalistic one that can get you close. This might also solve the no bubble when zero problem.
So in WAD you'd do...
Top = rlToday
Middle = Calendar+
Bottom = Phone Alarm

I don't have WA3 so I can't try that...
PhoneAlarm won't do it for me I think. To many stuff that I don't want in that plugin (I see a load of icons, clock etc...).
Don't have WAD either, so can't try the bottom part in WAD neither.

Today Screen Launcher IDEA.. please develop..

hi. i first posted this idea on the PointUI forum.. so forgive me for the blasphemous screen.. anyway.. i jsut want to share this idea for those developers, willing to create a scrolling today screen launcher..
click thumbnail for the animated demo..
the idea is, to create a launcher that is customizable (custom icons - TGA or PNG for transparency), scrollable, and FUN.. hehe..
anyway.. it's a simple horizontal swipe and scroll.. but the added feature of the - what i call - default pane..
the default pane should be a set of five shortcut icons (user configurable) that can be easily accessed from anywhere in the horizontal list.. how? double tap the space above the icons..
for example, you have a 16 icon horizontal list, if you are in the end of the list, and you have to go back to your default pane, just double tap the space above the icons, and the list will scroll back to your default pane..
also, there should be an option for memory or default..
the memory option remembers the last position of your launcher and remains where it is even after you launched a program or switched to another window..
the default view scrolls the list back to the default pane after launching a program or every time the today screen becomes active..
this idea could not just be a today screen plugin.. it can also be a launcher that can be called via screen gesture (FtouchSL/FtouchFLO).. the difference with this launcher, is if implemented, would just be an over-window rather than a full screen launcher.. it may also be a task switcher.. depends on the developers choice..
here's a quick demo..
[/i]click on the thumbnail for the animated demo..[/i]
once again, this is just an IDEA.... for someone else with the programming prowess..
i'm just good with photoshop and ideas. but binaries and hexadecimals kill me..
Good idea..i hope some one develops it...u can try Throttle launcher
Where did you find the picture?
Have you done it by yourself?
look into ultimatlaunch also... very similar to what you are wanting
with customize icons and wallpaper... wold be good.. and a feeds infos too on the clock and events apperance
the upper part of the picture/animation is the PointUI Home interface.. no credit for me with that..
the bottom part however is mostly my creation.. (the icons used were modified from bundled stardock icons for windowsXp)
i created the bottom part and the application launcher ribbon as an idea suggestion for the developers of PointUI..
a bit inspired by the leaked wm7 pix and the iphone springboard hacks they created over at cre.ations.net
i don't really like PointUI that much (YET, but i'm getting there), so i also suggest the idea as a native Today Screen plugin.. and an all around launcher.. a minimalist approach, compared to the touchFLO cube and it's encarnations..
i don't like ultimate launcher that much.. i'm not into Tabbed launchers.. too much space consumed..
throttle launcher looks cluttered at the moment.. too much things are rendered on screen at the same time.. it takes up much time loading and, again, screen real estate.. i'm still eyeing for its future improvements though.. especially if it will be able to get customized, as in, to be able to select the features that will be loaded, and will not..
it's not likely that all people want to see a big clock, a bunch of contact pictures, all of the shortcuts, and running programs cramped in their screen at the same time..
Would be awesome...good idea buddy.

they have a single line launcher now, it the same thing you ar requesting. I'm also keeping an eye on them i think the single line can be a nice addon to every rom. (but it has to be easy customiseble)
If you combine Ultimate Launcher with some clever today screen plugins, especially with rltoday, you can do at least the first part with customization only.
if only the creator wants to make pointui for VGA sigh..
That concept has been done here
i tried v2r and though it was not that good....this idea is awesome though i would love to see it developed
I like the concept.... I'll try to achieve something similar with my app (ThrottleLauncher) and report back with what can be done . Some questions:
Any way of getting the art work used on your screen shots?
What are the left and right arrows on the clock for?
Thanks for that cool concept!

This is what I've so far. I know the look is not the same but without the background's it's the closer I can make it for the today plugin. For the "poping up" app, the same theme can be used without the clocks on throttle main app. A little modification on the app will be needed to show the prevous window as background.

The today plugin ribbon is really eassy to achieve with my app ;-). I've made a simple theme for you. Just uncompress the zip file into your instalation dir of ThrottleLauncher (see my signature).
After that, go to ThrottleConfig app (it must be on your programs menu) and set plugin height to 38 (or higher if you customize the icons to be bigger), then sellect Ribbon on the combo box and click "Set Today's" button. Then on the actions menu (left softkey) select Edit AppDB, add as much app's as you wish (needed fields are title, name and exec, only select an icon if you wan't to override the default of the app). Select the app's you want to be on the Used list. After all that add throttletoday plugin to your today screen.
If you wan't to make some playing with the setup you can take a look at this tutorials
http://www.throttlelauncher.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=8
You can for example eassily set the ribbon to be 2 rowed, add a clock, add contact photodial ribbon, etc etc .
edit: removed atachment as it contained an error. Look some post's below for the correct one..

Sorry... my fault... there was an error on the zip. Setup xml must be inside a folder called Ribbon on the setups folder and not directly inside it. Here you have an update of the simple ribbon setup and the one of the screenshots above (this last will require a little work still but I upload it so you can test it ).

[Theme] Orbalist (WAD2) -Final 1

Hey guys, after gettings my hands on Wisbar Advance Desktop 2 and seeing how powerful it was in theming just the way I wanted, I thought I would make some themes.
I will put the themes I make up here in case anybody likes them so they can use them themselves (any donations would be appreciated).
Before I begin though, a note:
Most of my themes will be minimalist, I like to maximise functionality out of the minimal things on the screen, usually I prefer to see the wallpaper and my themes will focus on this.
The theme I am going to put here is a conceptual idea I had today where I thought that the signals I need can easily be displayed in a "different" way. It's not entirely new, but I have not seen it done like this for a phone theme before.
Anyway, here is my first version of this theme, a couple hours work, and is basic and simple, but i like it for that.
Each Orb or circle represents a signal, from largest to smallest:
Teal: Missed Calls
Yellow: New SMS
Maroon: New Email
Light Green: Wifi ON
Blue: Bluetooth ON
When the orbs/circles are empty, there is no missed call/sms/email and wifi/BT are off. When the colour is visible, there are.
Each can be clicked and will take you to the corresponding item:
Teal: Missed call list
Yellow: SMS list
Maroon: Email Inbox
Light Green: Toggle WIFI ON/OFF
Blue: Toggle Bluetooth ON/OFF
The top left blue circle shows the start menu
Top right blue circle has battery value, and will take you to the battery page (FIXED)
The wallpaper here is just a solid colour, but could be replaced with any colour or image you like.
The orbs/circles can be moved anywhere you like on the screen in any shape or pattern, simply and easily.
EDIT: FIXED: Battery Icon now takes you to battery power page.
EDIT2: OK, this will be the final version for now (until I receive requests). I have added transparency to the circles, I have added a clock, changed the colours for some nicer ones and have also made a landscape version. (Havn't shown screeners because it's practically the same thing). The wallpaper (that may be included) is just a generic general image from the phone, the idea of this theme is that you pick your own wallpaper, so you should change this, and not wonder why it has an aweful one included. Again, if you like, please feel free to donate.(Link in my sig)
NOTE: You may find that the mail icon doesn't link correctly on your phone. That is because on my phone it is linked to "Gmail". You should edit the script for the mail link (maroon one) and in its script you will find "\Windows\tmail.exe -service 'Gmail'". Change the bit in quotes to link your correct account (either what ever you named it, or "ActiveSync" if you're using the Hotmail/Outlook sync. If you use more than one, just remove everything after "\Windows\tmail.exe" and you will be taking to "Messaging"
Nice idea mate,
will check it out when it's done.
Very nice. It's good to see someone thinking away from the "We have to interact with some boxes inside of other boxes" mentality. Down with square buttons!
Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words, I have updated now after working on it all day, and made what will for now be a final version.
Let me know if you download and have any feedback. Bear in mind, as I said, I won't be adding _too much_ more to these because the whole idea was to be minimalist.
That looks really clever, although I think I'd keep getting distracted by the pretty lady!
Hmm very nice idea about circle but i have better idea to turn girl to front face and for first "bubi" assing sms and second "bubi" for new e-mail ) , and if message arrive all bubi start shaking. lol i need this for my today screen.
Hehe
Well, fortunately for those that might get distracted, the pretty lady doesn't come with my theme, I just saw her in the theming thread and thought I'd try it as my wallpaper. You can of course put any wallpaper you like, which is the idea of this theme. The "bubi" idea is a nice one, put it tempts me to make the kind of theme that one shouldn't see before the 9 o clock watershed, so I'll refrain.
I love the minimalist approach - clean and stylish, just the way I like it. Keep it up!

Easy tips to make your device look beautiful

I'm probably preaching to the noobs here since most of you seasoned veterans should already know all this. I just thought I would contribute something by consolidating a couple of easy tricks.
Sure, there are numerous themes out there. But these days, there's so many versions of Manila that it can get frustrating to find which theme works for your ROM. So, here's a couple of tips to personalize your device regardless of Manila version.
1. Make your taskbar more interesting and useful
There's really no reason to stick with the default WinMo taskbar. It's bland, boring, and you can only see battery level in 4 increments. There are numerous custom taskbars out there but I find this one the most eye-pleasing to me. Brian's Taskbar
2. Make your wallpaper visible on all tabs of Sense. And don't let landscape orientation mess up the image.
If you use Manila/TouchFlo3D/Sense, don't bother setting your wallpaper via the Settings tab. Your wallpaper will look alright on your Home tab in portrait mode. But you won't be able to see your wallpaper in your other tabs. And if you switch to landscape orientation, your wallpaper will look horrible. This tool solves all these problems. You can also use a completely different wallpaper for landscape if you choose to. HDWall
(The program is easy to figure out. Take the time and patience to do so. It is worth it.)
3. Keep your Today background beautiful in both landscape and portrait orientation
Those of you who use the default Today screen (instead of Sense, Mobile Shell, etc) will know that you set your wallpaper by doing one of the following:
Option A:
-go to "Today" settings
-toggle on "Use this picture as the background"
-tap "Browse" and then select the image file.
-tap "OK"
Option B:
-open the "Pictures & Videos" application
-Browse to the image file and open it
-Tap "Menu"
-Tap "Set as Today Background..."
-Move the selection area according to your own preference.
-Keep transparency level at 0% (This is an odd setting. I can't fathom a reason for not setting it at 0%)
-Tap "OK"
Rather than using a 480 by 800 image. Try using an image that is 1333 by 800 (width by height).
For WinMo 6.5 users who use HTC Sense, this tip still applies to you. This affects the lockscreen image and the background image of the Start Menu.
Awesome! Thanks! Yes there are noobs out there (...me). I definitely appreciate this. Can't wait to try it out!
Thanks, I am a noob and am trying to decipher all these options. Maybe there can be just series of Noob Stickies...?
And I thought I would find out about lipstick and thong undies here...
I just use an 800x800 image... works just the same.

You're absolutely right. If you use an 800x800 image, the wallpaper displayed will not be scaled down and will be shown in full resolution.
However, here's the reason why I suggested using a 1333x800 image:
See the first attachment named 800x800jpg.
The blue represents the part of the wallpaper visible to you in portrait mode.
The red represents the part of the wallpaper visible in landscape mode. (Of course, imagine that the red extends behind the parts covered by blue in the middle.)
But as you can see, there's some chunks of white areas. Those parts of the image will never be displayed.
If you use a 1333x800 image, every pixel will be displayed in landscape mode. See 2nd attachment named 1333x800.jpg.
800x800 vs 1333x800
I agree entirely with the post above (very useful illustrations).
The only thing I would point out is that the 800x800 wallpaper misses out the corners of the picture in both orientations, whereas the larger wallpaper misses nothing out in one, but huge amounts in the other.
So I think it all depends on the composition of the picture really - if most of the picture is interesting then go for 800x800, if the best bits are in the centre third then go for the larger dimensions.
Of course it also depends on which orientation you spend most time using your phone in...
Just what i was looking for since Energy changed taskbar icons.
Brian's Taskbar looks awsome on the phone and ALSO seemed to make many other icons look more stylish such as storage card and folder icons. Im sure i will run into more stuff from this. Thanks
I have to say thanks for this post. I was unaware of another stable taskbar aside from Tsowen's work and Brian's definitely rocks.
Great post. I'm not exactly a noob, but I haven't spent any quality time with my phone for the last couple of months. I was waiting until some of the bugs got worked out on the programs I was hoping to use. And besides, hubby just got a Verizon Palm Pre so it renewed my interest in making my phone that much better than his.
Your directions were so complete and easy to use. My phone looks great now. That 3rd step was one I hadn't thought of. Last night I installed Brian's taskbar and HDwalls. The wallpaper looked wonderful. I thought I was stuck with the default background for the start menu until I got up this morning and tried your step 3. Now I'm a very happy camper. Thanks for the effort you took in writing this post.
Maybe a bit of a silly question, but I love those tomatoes on the lock screen. Is there any possibility that you could post that picture here?
Thanks in advance
Thanks! was looking to change the default taskbar, but didn't know how.. now i do
BTW: also like the tomatos!

would be helpful if you mentioned what ROM you're using and what taskbar is causing you difficulties....
WM 6.5
Rom 1.86.415.2 (67102)
and i tried both brain's taskbar and spike's
few min ago i used another Brain taske bar
(New_F_ Brians WM6.5 Taskbar gfreek edition V5a.cab)
it works without a bug in the signal icon , but i'm not lovin the icons really niko's were much pleasant for me, especially the start icon its not the htc logo
also i have another question my friend, which i chose to show clock on taskbar , it used to show it in any running program but not in the Home screan and it's taps , which is logic
since i update the Rom and the clock in the task bar shows in the Home screan and make the battery disappears !!!!!
even when i installed this brain taskbar also the clock removes the battery icon from the home screan
