A utility to backup SMS ? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi,
sorry if it is not the right place for this but do you know any application that is able to backup the SMS messages from our Windows Mobile 5 (or 6) to a file (like a CSV, HTML etc...)
Thank you

You should habe a look at PIM Backup Link. AFAIK it has the chance to backup to a text file.

Thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately, PIMBackup doesnt provide me a way to read my SMS easily when I am not connected to my WM5.
It is a PIB file (zip file) with a CSL file that is not easily readable
If you know other application, please let me know

I just read this from his homepage:
"There are two kinds of backups. The binary based backup has been implemented in order to have a backup/restore process which is fast and more reliable, the disadvantage being that the backup contents cannot be easily modified or viewed.
The text based backup has been implemented in order to see/edit the contents on a pc for instance."
I think you should just select the text based backup and you have want you want. I just installed it at my girlfriends device, but never played with the options.

SMS backup

Hi all,
I know this is a repeated and common problem, but I have to post this anyway.
this is the 3rd time that my Messaging in my wizard stops working for know clear reason, I can't read incoming sms, I can't send sms anymore.
I need to backup my sms file because it contains very important information, but cemail.vol can't be copied to another location...
What to do please???????????
Mohammad
use a backup program such as spb backup
and all the mails and sms are actually sotred under \windows\messaging as *.mpb files.
Those you can copy and rename as eml for mails or txt for sms.
the databases in cemail.vol is made up of pointers to these files
I found this quite by chance following a post of mine that never got any answer
Is it possible to backup only SMS's and not emails???
SPB Backup doesn't provide an option to backup specific Messaging Accounts

Backing up messages?

Are there files I can back up to save my messages? I want to reload my original software, or possibly upgrade to this Wizard_Love_2[1].26.10.2_WWE_Novii_CF2.rar file I've had collecting dust for a few months.
I have Resco file explorer so I can see the system folders. Where (if possible) do I find and backup the files containing the messages (text msgs, MMS, etc)?
Doesn't anybody have any info on this?
PIM Backup
Try looking for a program called PIM Backup...it's by some other forum member...i think it was dotFred or something of that sort...it'll be able to backup your messages.
here's a direct link to the guy's site:

Thanks! I'll try it

SMS export in CVS file readable in Excel or other

Hi,
After searching on the forum for any soft that would be able to do this, I'm posting this thread.
I'm looking for a tool that would allow me to export all my SMS in a text file (cvs or other) that can be easily modified, read, stored. Additionaly, I'd like to be able with that tool to import such a file.
reason is that I'd like to keep my SMS readable for ever, but also that I would be able to import on my Hermes the SMS from my SE K800i (for which I've got a tool to export in readable text format)
Thanks for your help
Jeyo Mobile Extender ought to do the trick.. you can download yr sms into outlook and export it to CSV format.. Cheerios
and can I do it the other way around ?
Reimport it from a CVS in outlook ?
yup. c'est possible!
Ca c'est cool
I'll try it
thanks again

Another possibility (if you don't use Outlook, or don't want to use ActiveSync for this, or want it to happen automatically on the phone without needing to be docked) is PPC Pim Backup (also discussed here http://cleanimport.xda/index.php?threads/299705/).
If you want a csv text file output, be sure to turn off the "Binary backup (faster)" option. The resulting file will be called <filename>.pib which you can rename to <filename>.zip and open. Inside will be a file called msgs_<date>.csm, which is a readable/editable csv file.
HTH. HAND. Cheers.
Addendum: Oh, and if you create a file called msgs_<date>.csm and zip it up into a file called <name>.pib, then you can restore (import) the messages back in too. When restoring, there is an option to either delete existing messages before import, or to just add imported messages.
I indeed already tried that one (that I run on a daily basis), but the format of the CVS file is not really correct. Some messages a spread on multiple lines if they contains carriage returns for example.
And also the message is most of the time on multiple lines, which makes it difficult to re-organise it and/or to create a file for import

Best way to archive SMS

What is the best way to archive your SMS's? Is there some way to get the internal database where the SMS's are stored as a text or xml file?
I believe Textract will extract them to a txt file that you can copy off the sd card. I personally use SMS Backup. It sends texts automatically to a label in your gmail. So I have an Android label in gmail with all my text threads. Both are free in the market.

I believe the messages are stored here:
Code:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
Its been a long time since I dealt with it, but you can also check out this this link. I know in there somewhere someone addresses where the sms/mms database is stored in the android platform
mybackup / mybackuppro
"Move Cache for root users"
It can backup SMS to SD. although I have not used the feature.
Also a nice thing to try:
Sms Backup which backs it up in your google account.

Sprite Settings

Hi. I am using the Sprite backup which I can download from the HTC site (SEA region phone). I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to backup ONLY calls/messages/contacts, e-mail would also be nice. Basically I want to keep my usage/call history/exchanges kept but I want system settings and such gone since I want to hard reset to see if I can get rid of certain funky behavior.
Thanks in advance to any who might be able to help (and even those who wish they could but are as clueless as I am).
Easy n' faster
I like this one, easy to use. You can backup & restore (Contacts including pictures, appt, messages, call logs, tasks, notes, etc). It has an option named "custom", so you can backup & restore files and even folders. Just copy zip file to your device, then unzip and run exe file. You won't see an icon in programs folder so I suggest you send a shortcut to programs folder. Enjoy.
