finally have everything hooked up in car the way I want, just the right place, the music plays through the stereo, phone call sounds great over the car stereo.
The problem is when I answer a call, the speaker phone will not come on, and although I can hear them, they cannot hear me. Any work around for to get the speakerphone to work while a headphone jack(plugged into car stereo) is installed?

I have connected my KJam to my car stereo via a cable from the 2.5mm jack to the aux port of my car stereo. Tom Tom voice and phone calls are routed through my car stereo. Sometimes, the microphone will not work when I take a call. I can hear the caller perfectly but they can't hear me. Other times, the phone functionality works perfectly and we can both hear each other great.
If anyone can suggest any ideas, I would be very grateful.

if your using a jack to connect it to your car, then its will prob. stop the mic working as its routing the audio to you car in the same way the headset with mic that you got with the k-jam does. I had this problem on mine, but due to the fact that i use a bluetooth neadset in the car fixed that little problem 8)
That's the end of my k-jam desires then.
I use my MDA compact in the same way you describe, for TomTom, Hands free calling and to play my music through.... and my microphone works fine with the headphone jack in.
I guess one thing to check would be the number of rings on your 2.5mm jack. If you have 3 then theres a possibility the k-jam thinks you have a mic on the end of the wire. If you have 2 rings (normal stereo headphones) then there must be another issue somewhere.
thanks for your replies. My concern was around the fact that sometimes the microphone works and sometimes not. I wonder if there is a workaround or a specific type of cable that I need to ensure that only the audio is routed and not the mic as well.

never tried this myself, so i can only assume it would work. you could hack a cheap wired headset up, removing the earpieces but leaving the microphone. then add a stereo 3.5 plug so you can hook it up to your car stereo.

I have that very problem also, it's gotten that annoying that i've stopped using it through my stereo. you are able to get around it by popping the cable out of the kjam, then putting it back in.
pain in the ass though none the less.
What is the phone is set to Speakerphone ?

Just wondering if anyone has had any success in fixing this problem? I am having the same issue. I have a 2 ring 2.5-3.5mm adapter connected (so it should only be routing the audio, not the mic) and sometimes the caller can hear me, sometimes not. At one stage I found by unplugging the cable, setting to speakerphone, then unsetting speakerphone and plugging the cable back in would get it to work, but not anymore...
Any ideas?!?! I love my XDAII mini but this is driving me up the wall!

i have my 8125 hooked up to my car speaker system through the headset jack. the other day i discovered something by accident. i could hear the call through my speakers (which i already knew) but they could also hear me through my mic.
i tried it again and it didn't work. a week later i tried it again and it did work. i realized what i was doing that was different was using the voice command button while my car was connected to the headset. voila. voice command will function and my next call can hear me through the phone mic.
this makes for a great speakerphone. the cool thing is no one has ever complained that they hear an echo of themselves even when the audio is up high. try it out and let me know.
I have also been using my k-jam to listen to music in the car. i have connected the device to an FM-modulator using the headset socket and a mini stereo headset jack. At the same time I have also my BT-handsfree active.
I have a choice of either using the BT-handsfree for privacy (the BT-hansfree mic is used) OR the car stereo as a speaker phone when alone or if i need all passengers to converse (as the phone mic is used).
When a call comes I press the answer button on the phone the BT-Handsfree is de-activated. Press the BT-handsfree answer button and all calls are diverted to BT-handsfree and cannot be heard on the car speakers. The best part is that the music stops and resumes automatically in the windows media player.
Try it and have a Safe Drive.

I would love to setup a profile for when I am driving my fiancee's car so that when I make or answer a call it automatically makes/answers the call in loud speaker. I have an in-car dvd/gps with bluetooth, so I don't need it for my car.
I have spb phone suite set up for home, my car and work,but there is no option to have it answer with the loud speaker.

I've used the Oldsap programme and it works OK.
Although I have found that the speaker from the phone is not loud enough to overcome traffic noise.
My current solution works brilliantly.
My car stereo has a tape deck in it, and so i've been able to use an MP3 to cassette adapater( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-F8V366-APL-Mobile-Cassette-Adapter/dp/B0000AOWVC )
The advantage of this is, the call comes through your cars speakers, but since the phone recognises that a headset without a microphone is plugged in it automatically boosts the microphone to hands free mode.
Hence great volume and you don't have to shout

On my SYNC equipped Ford it works fine once I downloaded the phonebook to the car...
I didn't bother and just use the built in speaker which is loud enough. I'll have to link it in to the stereo to see.
Okay so , Right now with my mt3g, I can hook it up to my car stereo via the mini-usb to 3.5mm adapter that it came with(it has a microphone on it),and I can make calls and hear people through my speakers. With the Inc. am I going to need another kind of adapter or will the speaker on the phone itself be good?
I found this out accdentally, but using a regular stereo cable from my DI to the car's aux input, I was able to hear calls through the speaker, and they could hear me via the phone's built in Mic. I was surprised the first time I heard it ring, but it worked very nice, no issues that they couldn't hear me and the sound quality was top notch. I really like how it will mute whatever else is playing in the meantime, like Slacker / Pandora, and continue once the call is over.

I've been using the Car Dock Home v3 app launched from HTC's car dock when I'm driving. Yesterday I was also listening to some podcasts form the phone by connecting the headphone jack to my car's aux input. I had a bluetooth headset connected.
Then someone decided to call me and it was disastrous. The car mode causes the phone to read the incoming phone number and let you answer or decline by voice, which is neat, but instead of going through the car's speaker (headphone out) it goes through the built in speaker. I don't know why it would do this, but with the car noise it was impossible to hear it.
Then after answering the call, instead of going through the bluetooth headset, I heard the caller through the car's speakers (sounded great) but they couldn't hear me at all. I can switch to the bluetooth headset manually, but it's too dangerous to try and navigate the tiny buttons and text while driving. With another caller they could hear me, though.
So I can't figure out what the phone is doing when you have something plugged into the headphone jack but no wired mic. It seems like the phone's microphone is active, but not in speakerphone mode, so it's probably too quiet on the other end to clearly hear me unless I talk right into the mic, which I can't do while driving.
So questions:
1. Is there any way to increase the internal mic gain to use the phone connected to the car speakers as a true speakerphone (and can this be done without creating echo/feedback)?
2. Is there any way to have the phone automatically prioritize a connected bluetooth device over the headphone jack?
3. If the answers to 1. and 2. are no, is there any way to have a car mode specific dialer screen with nice big buttons for selecting audio source manually?
4. Can I get the car mode to read incoming call info into the headphone jack rather than the internal speaker?

Are you sure that works? I didn't try that, but I used my bluetooth headset to launch genius and dial a contact by voice. Everything worked through the bluetooth headset, but once the call connected, it switched to the car's speakers.
I'm pretty sure that the car mode initiates hands-free mode, which automatically turns on the phones internal speaker when a call comes in. See if there's a setting that prevents hands-free from turning on in the app. That might fix things the way you use them.

While the phone is ringing, activate the connection via BT. It works for me now, and it worked on the stock ROM. But you don't ned to take my word for it, just try it.

I'll give that I try when I get a chance. There is an option to automatically enable speakerphone in the car dock app, so maybe disabling that will also fix the problem. However, so long as the headphone jack isn't in use, it works exactly like I want it to:
If the bluetooth headset is connected, it gets used for answering and making calls. If the bluetooth headset is not connected, when answering or making calls the phone's spakerphone is automatically enabled.
The issue is that with the headphone jack in use, it seems to take precedence over both internal speakerphone and bluetooth headset.
My guess is that if the headphone jack is in use the phone assumes that you're using a wired headphone/headset with its own mic. If that were the case, the behaviour actually makes sense: if you've got a wired headset in your ears, that's where you'd want the audio to go. I suppose if there is no external mic but you're wearing headphones, using the internal mic without speakerphone gain also may make sense: you'd hear through the headphones and hold the mic near your mouth to talk. The problem is it ignores the case of external speakers versus headphones. Especially in car mode it should be smarter about how it deals with these options. Of course, some of the issue may be due to the third party dock app, so maybe I'll have to try with that disabled or contact the developer to see if he can do anything.
It's little usability issues like this that make me want to drop Android, although I have no idea if there's actually anything that really works better.

Training yourself to touch the earpiece instead of the phone to answer is not overly difficult. It only took me one or two "oops" experiences to stop touching the phone.
I use the phone and aux input all the time while driving, but the difference is that I don't have a bluetooth headset involved.
Audio comes out of the headphone jack and I speak into the phone's mic and it works fine. Turn the phone volume to max and use the headunit volume to adjust.
So I have had a chance to test it. It's true, if you use the bluetooth headset's button to answer a call it does get properly routed to the headset. If you answer by taping answer on the screen it gets routed the headphone/speaker + internal mic.
It does also seem like the internal mic is used correctly and pretty much sounds as good as the speaker phone mode, so answering a call while wearing headphones or using speakers doesn't seem like it should be a problem (assuming echo isn't an issue with speakers). Don't know why that one caller couldn't hear me, but that could be some other reason.
What doesn't work, though, is initiating a call from the bluetooth headset if the headphone jack is in use. Using the bluetooth headset button to initiate genius voice dialing works as expected until the call is connected, at which pint it then gets routed to the headphone/mic instead of the bluetooth headset. There doesn't seem to be any way around this. Of course, since you are initiating the call, it's probably not too bad to just unplug the headphone jack first...
