Just in case you didn't notice:
There are new betas for MortPlayer (3.31b69, also RC) and MortScript (4.11b2).
The new MortPlayer beta fixes a lot of bugs, only the phone call pause still seems to cause troubles on some devices. But I'm afraid there's no way to avoid that without causing troubles on other devices (buggy manufacturer implementations of a crappy MS concept...).
It also includes some new features, like more finger support (list scrolling, finger gestures for track/Favorite change) or defining the upcoming track (select track and tap "Next track:" info). Configuration has been made a bit more easy, too, esp. by a simplyfied Favorite configuration dialog. For Skins, there are some new options, like defining the height or a separating line for list entries or switching back to previous screen, which are also used in the new default skin (MortVista).
MortScript doesn't offer many changes so far, but some might still be interesting, e.g. a SendKeys that should work faster and more reliable, an Include command (include Subs defined in other files), or line number in error messages.
Oh, and since it seems so commonplace here to beg for donations - I won't deny them either... (PayPal button below menu on my site..)
Hi,
this is my report of new MortPlayer Version:
Menus are very clear
integration of good tips
easy to use, even without Stylus
good energy saving options
what I miss:
fade in and out at play and stop
fade to next title

Starbase64
Player Not Exiting
Even when using the exit button on the menu I cannot get the latest Player to exit. It sits there eating valuable memory when I am not using it. Any ideas ?
I am using an I-Mate K-Jam/ HTC Wizard

Never heard of such a thing before...
What exactly happens when you do what? If I got it right, you select "Menu" - "Exit program", and then it stays still active?
Playlist navigation via D-Pad
Hi,
I do not know if it is possible, but I would like to be able to scroll and select a song from the playlist using D-Pad's up/down and select buttons. If I use these buttons in the playlist now they rise/lower volume and play/pause the playback.
Thanks,
Fran

(BTW, feel free to CC your announcements privately to me, particularly now that I'm working on the Multimedia Bible, so that I can report on the latest developments of your excellent apps)

You can assign up/down button to "Move selection". However, they won't have any action in any other screen.
So far, MortPlayer hasn't the concept of a focused element, so there's no difference whether you're "in the playlist" or not.
In most cases, that's also better that way on PPCs, because you'd rather have e.g. left/right skip the track instead of selecting another element (like in usual dialogs). Only the playlist is an exception I didn't find a really good solution... To simply redefine the up/down behaviour might be unexpected/-wanted, too (i.e., I could get mails the volume up/down - or whatever's assigned to DPad up/down - "doesn't work").
@Menneisyys: I don't plan to include much in MortPlayer until the release, though I've still lots on my "to do" list. But it's about time there's finally a new release version, esp. if you consider most beta versions were more stable than 3.3...
I just have to fight procrastinating all the work that's related with a release, like writing a new manual (about 60% done), recollect all changes (lost my old changelog...), fill the homepage description (another thing lost due to server troubles...), and so on.
Well, and then there's the upcoming MortButtons update - which doesn't offer that much new functionality (mostly animations and a simple Today plugin), but oviously peoply like to show off with eye candy since the iPhone.
(And I'm still suprised about all that fuzz over Cube, Spb Menu, and the like, since MortButtons had a similar concent for ages - and even combining it with an HButton like "one button" selection...)
Mort yeah the only way I can close it is to kill the player. I must add that I use the wizard reTOUCHED rom. Everything else works perfectly. I just cannot close the app.

Ionly plan to finish / publish the Multimedia Bible in late February the earliest (I've decided to wait for the 1.2 release of CorePlayer in order to avoid the Bible getting outdated in a few weeks), so, you have plenty of time to get into the Bible with your latest-and-greatest features
Updated to TNT 1933 and the mortplayer works perfectly. Awesome player dude
album cover
ouch, How comes the album cover is so small? would have looked soooo much better bigger. everything else is great though. but the cover is just a blur
thanks this is really the best music player great work!

That's up to the skin...
Ah mort i found out why the player doesnt want to exit .. or maybe when . Its when it is installed to the SD Card and i use a skin like the myPod skin. When using the default it refuses to exit. Hope this helps
I'll see what I can do about it... It's a very strange behaviour...
And now for something completely different: The current MortScript betas has some nice enhancements, esp. a status window that allows user feedback without interrupting the execution of the script.
MortPlayer 3.31b69 sound quality
Have been using MortPlayer 3.31b34 for what seems like ever (great player)
I thought I would install the latest beta (b69) to try out the finger gestures & hopefully benefit from other improvements.
All works great except the sound quality is not quite as good, less bass & harsher high tones/vocals ! All the settings are exactly the same.
Have swapped between the two versions & can distinguish the difference easily.
Any idea what changes have implemented this !
m4a
will mortplayer ever play m4a?

There are only two changes regarding the sound system: MAD has been updated (usually it causes better quality for most MP3s) and the default volume has been reduced to 80% (like in WMP).

The current beta includes the corresponding GSPlayer plugin. However, it seems like it doesn't work on all devices...
Dude, mort-tools are awesome. I'm using MortPlayer and Mortscript. Keep up the good work.
One issue with the MortPlayer : I use the latest Beta with IMort Skin (really great with finger gesture and covers ) but when i minimize the Programm and start for e.g. Excel or a JavaGame the sound stopps.

I've used my JJ for a week [+] now, and after being a pretty strong user on my Himalaya, I'm not convinced that the JJ has a lot to offer. Here's a summary of my experiences, and some questions ppl may b able to help with:
What it truly offers vs XDA
Look, it works. But is it worth the money. Here's what you truly get, make your own decision. I have loot, so I went for it. But if I was stretched, there's no way...
Pretty kewl internet surfing: Speed good in 3G areas, and screen size along with small fonts (hi res) makes page width manageable. I find many sites where the combo boxes do not populate, but it definitely works on many sites that my XDA did not. Can't wait for Opera, tho many others anxiously await NetFront.
Useable email writing due to good keyboard. But, even with WebIS Mail, there is no HTML mail - just plain text. U can receive HTML as text of course.
Battery life not much different to XDA: a well set up XDA that is. I'm only now trying with 3G turned off to see if that helps further [Actually, I think it's quite a bit better than the XDA afetr all]
Pretty: Yep, VGA is very pretty. [After some use, I'm finding it very nice for calendars, surfing, emails, and anythng else where screen estate was apremium]
Terminal Services client: (aka remote desktop) - STUNNING given hi res. I can now get into my remote eMule server and see how things are going in crystal clarity. Love it!
Issues I have not solved - any thoughts?
Not enough hardware buttons in good locations: I drove my XDA with ButtonMax and the easily located hardware buttons. The JJ has fewer, and rather discrete, buttons. This means that you can't always hit that "close app" button easily, and paging in MobiPocket is limited. I HAVE gotten buttonMax to work - but a workaround is required. [VIto ButtonMapper also works]
No 'New' button: This sux BIG time! I had my XDA customised to "New SMS" vs "New eMail", and now I have to go into mail (WebIS mail beta is sloooow), choose account (SMS vs eMail), then hit new. Sounds like I'm whining, but I churn out a lot of messages in a day... [Using pocketPlus, I;ve gotten a "new message" command mapped to a hard key. Works great: hit the button and I get a list of account options. So it goes button-click accounnt-type message]
No Pocket Informant: Oh this is BAD BAD BAD!! The internal calendar app is SO crap one cannot believe that devices actually sell with it! I wouldn't have ever changed to PPC if I hadn't known about PI in advance. ANyway, PI fails on the JJ, even with October-1 ROM, due to 'POOM' issues. They are workin on it, but I'll be watching Agenda Fusion's progress equally closely. The first across the finish line...
[UPDATE: I've got it working - read their forum covering v3 this beta release for more. It's AWESOME in VGA!]
Nope - it fails after a day, and PI dev/ceo dude says he thinks it's a JJ ROM issue and it not working on solving it. SO start watching for Agenda Fusion to solve this for us...
Titlebar date/time: the OBOpt hack works, but the damned date only shows in the today screen. Go into any app or programme folders, and it gets knocked off the title bar. I WANT the time visible at all times - not like a today plugin damit!! Any suggestions? [UPDATE: Answer below - I didn't know of this WM5 feature]
Speed dial and recent call access: Up/Down on joypad no longer take me to speed dial and recent calls list when in phone mode. Now I have to touch the screen to dial whilst driving. Voice dialing will help - bit I've not tried this yet. Will see if ButtonMax can solve l8r tonight. [No, there's no "recent calls" command to map BM to - will have to work on a reg hack at some stage for this]
If ur buying for the keyboard, be careful; it's not that accessible. I still use the SIP for a lot of input, and only unrevolve the whole things when I'm settling in to surf or message [But its a GREAT keyboard!]
No BT icon. Bit daft. [Will test out BT switch apps this w.end]Buss updated his BT icon app for the JJ - look elsewhere under my posts. It's great - but it showed me that the BT issue is actually a deeper problem covered elsewhere - BT disconnects and is unreliable at best!
[*]Duplicates: I can't f'ing believe that I STILL get duplicates in the notifications queue!!! M$ have absolutely no excuse for not sorting this widely known issue out once and for all. Havn't yet found a proggie that does nightly cleanup - any tested suggestions? [REMOVED: this must have been a rogue app cos after a hard reset and re-insatll, I no longer have dups. I'll try to figure out what caused it over the next few days]Npote - they are BACK! sddeamon dups, and despite several hard resents I have not managed to figure out if there's a specific app causing them. I do know that there's no software to automatically clean up every night that works for the JJ on this particular dup[/list:e4db347fb1]
Things that work well for me
I've got quite a few of my critical apps up and working. Here's what I rely on:
Uptime Meter: gr8 4 battery life watching
Phone Dashboard: to track monthly 'free' minutes. Charts and dialog boxes don't do well in VGA, but it works [No it doesn't - no minutes are tracked - sorry!]
PocketPlus: Now, some forums say this does NOT work - latest 3.0.0b3888 does (with October-1 ROM). Repeating alarms do not work tho so...[UPDATE: I have recently hard reset and am installing 1x1 over a few days to see what the bugger is - PocketPlus is a contender at this stage...]
apReminderPlus: ESSENTIAL repeating alarms (who the hell hears that wank "cheep" in the morning!?). Not the best app but it's free and works. WIll try others over time. Reason I'm not happy is that altho it repeats and ascends, it does not pause for 5 mins then repeat the process over until u finally get back to your phone and realise how many meetings you've missed. It tries - wants to auto-snooze, but this feature does not work in WM5
Terminal Services client is great
ButtonMax: Now ESSENTIAL given the lack of external buttons on JJ. Map the few buttons u have to click, double-click, click-n-hold. I can't record Macros yet despite remapping "button 4" and readin all the help. They just don't record. [Also de-installed for now]
Pocket Sudoku: Yeehaa!
Mobipocket reader: Works - but fonts are not great to read for long [Get beta 5 from their dev site - Google it - STUNNING in VGA res!]
1-Calc, total commander, and eWallet all work fine.
Bluetooth headset support: Does a damn good job of reconnecting with my headset when I'm in rangeNOPE - it's a load of sh*t. Read my posts elsewhere on this!
Voicel dialing: Works VERY well - 1 click of BT headset and I'm ready to go
Extra section: Why I had to hard reset
Things went tits-up when I tried to install an app, then half way thro the cab transfer from PC-PPC I cancelled the process. DOn't see why it's an issue....but thereafter:
Add/remove list was blank
Could not install any new apps
Registry restore via sunnysoft did nothing to help (sunnysoft say "not for WM5" in their email to me - so don't expect too much from this...!)
Pocket Informant had failed (blank calendar issue) on me earlier so I was happy to re-build and give it a second chance anyway
At one stage my BT device went spastic - would not work, and when I deleted it I could not re-pair it
What's important is that there doesn't seem to be a way to get back to a saved state. Sunnysoft is NOT reliable according to THEM, and a simple memory copy cannot be restored.
I've been trying the beta for Mobipocket Reader 5. It works (though a bit buggy sometimes) and looks better in VGA but you cannot access the ID of the device from within Mobipocket. So, you cannot read secured books. I take it you used the old 4.x version and you could see the device's Mobipocket ID?

Try tapping the Date/Time display on the Today screen. On the "More" tab there's an option "Display the clock on the title bar in all programs".

Nice 1 Dale! Found it and I'm MUCH happier with fonts - it's so crisp n clean Happy to live with bugs (not that I've seen any yet).

Hiya bukwit, can U confirm for me: Was the link like this: http://download.pocketinformant.com/FTF/PI_Public_Build/
If not, please post it here. If so, this is the beta3 build that I (and several others) tried. It worked gr8 for a day, then during the midnight cleanup run I hit the blank calendar POOM issue. Let us know if you get past tonight without hitting the same wall...

date hack on the today screen
Hello
As in the title- could you guys please provide the link to the date hack on the today screen? I am really missing the date on the JasJar top bar
New Soft
One more thing -
There is nice new pocket plus 3.0.1 which for my taste takes less memory, For me PI beta3 works ok.
Lucasz: Thanx for 3.01 - got it. Date hack is here: http://www.phm.lu/PocketPC/RegTweaks/
ANyone know how to change format of date shown - I know I had it as dd-mmm in my XDA but I've no idea where I found the regkey
Bukwit: darn! what r u doing right that it works...? Think I'll do a full sunnysoft backup, then try PI alone and build up until I find whatever knocks it out. Will be worth it...
I little anoyance I have noted with the Jasjar that you'd may like to confirm:
The volume slider is not functional when the Jasjar clam is shut, screen towards the keyboard. It is OK with screen facing up! I discovered this playing mp3s as I do of a morning with device in protective pouch. I often like to bump volume up and down for various tunes. I found to have control, I have to slip the Jasjar in its case screen facing up - not good.
@fonxnolds,
Thats the reason they gave a wired headset which has a volumer slider on it

I never opened them! I use Etymotic Research ER-4P earphones / earplugs, exclusively for listening to music. Retail approx US$330 a pair. >30db Noise reduction passively, brilliant Bass...
Anything that comes with a device is suitable for phone dialog only, not Music in my opinion. Sound leaks, annoying other people etc.
I may consider snipping the earplugs off the supplied cable and wiring up a 3.5mm Stereo socket for my ER-4Ps if that is the only solution. Better still check out the accessory market and grab a spare that I can alter with petty cash.
$330?!?! Amzing! I guess you really do like your music!
I'll update this post reguarly using colour to distinguish between edits. So, If u post fixes, be assured that they'll get into the main post, but please don't be offended if that don't pass credit - readers will see who suggested it further down.

I still get loads of duplicates in the notification queue as well - all from sddaemon.exe? What's more this is a 'wakeup' event and so the duplicates were making my jasjar take foorreeevveerr to turn on from suspend. I removed them with scareybear check notification and it's much quicker to resume from suspend (like half a second as opposed to three to four seconds).
Does anyone know what sddaemon.exe is?

I found that after removing PI completely, these notification dups stopped. I had exactly the same issue before. Not saying it is definitely PI, but that's the ONLY thing I changed and I've been OK for a whole 8hrs now.
PS: Scareybear did not remove dups for me - just ID's then then I had to remove manually! Anton Amov's Pocket mechanic removed them - any idea of a utility that does it every midnight like we had in 2003SE?
Updated again in blue
Hello,
I know this is mostly a personal tastes dilemma, but I am looking to add a few specific functions to my Wizard and I just can't find some solutions to very simple issues. Of course I already searched through several boards and freeware sites, but most of the times I am stumbling on overcomplicated, unreliable, unstable or just plain not-working apps even for the most trivial tasks. Other times they work fine... unless you have any other app installed, in which case they bork up the system royally.
So, what are your freewares of choice for the following functions?
1) ALARM CLOCK
Yes, just a damn simple alarm clock to wake me up in the morning. No fancy tricks: just set it (possibly even on a week's advance), select the sound/Mp3 to be played and be sure it rings up when the time is right. If you want to get luxurious, a snooze function initiated by any hardware button would be nice.
I used M.Toda's AlarmClock 0.04, but it seems to be impossible to select a specific sound or buzzing mode (it's always an ear-splitting MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!), nor to keep using the Wiz when the alarm is set.
[Update: following Pat12's advice (see below) I downloaded the latest AlarmClock version (ARM version) and it works smoothly. No Mp3 alarms yet, though]
2) MP3 PLAYER
Just the very basic player functions: play the whole folder, add Mp3 to playlist, previous/play/pause/next buttons and a Mute function. What's the problem, you say? Well, all the players I found either blocked the phone functions (a player going on auto-hold on incoming calls would be wonderful), or would keep the touchscreen always active, making it impossible to put the Wiz in a pocket while listening to music.
[Update: The current best candidate seems to be Tcpmp, although it lacks a full graphic interface (meaning Previous/Next song buttons)]
3) WARDRIVER
Yes, I know. But WiFiFoFum hasn't any user-friendly way to select which available AP to hook to. HitchHiker does, but any time I launched it after the first one it made the Wiz unstable. That was on a non-updated ROM, though... I admit I have to check it again... unless you suggest anything better.
4) LAUNCHBAR
Nonononono... no l33t, gigacustomizable stuff, please. I simply need a self-starting thingie to have the icons for the Office apps and maybe the latest X opened apps always on my Today screen. If you've seen the "green" UK ad campaign for WM5 - that's exactly what I'm looking for.
5) ANTITHEFT APP
[edited: the correct name happens to be EyeOnThief, see below]
I used to use LockOnThief, which supposedly sends tracking SMSs to a hidden number list whenever a non-approved SIM card is inserted in the device. Great. Just one more thing would make it perfect: the ability to remotely wipe the device via SMS.
I know this is an AKU2 trick, but I've got no Exchange server so I'd like a simpler approach. Do you know any solution encompassing both the tracking and the wiping functions?
And, by the way, has anyone of you actually field-tested LockOnThief tracking abilities?
6) WI-FI "G" ENABLER
I'd simply like to enable the 802.11g protocol on my Wizard. The problem is: the Djvw Wizard Optimizer 2 seems to make my Wiz unstable, and Registry Wizard crashes on start (yes, I installed the other Cab too). What other layman's solution would you suggest?
[Update: thanks to Meschle (see below) now there is an optimal Cab-tweak for enabling the protocol!]
To give a little contribution, I can only give my undivided suggestions for four softwares I fully endorse:
SCROLLING - You guessed right, it's Smartskey! [And not "softkeys" as per my initial post...]
PERSONAL INFO MANAGER - EWallet. Not a freeware, but great in the way it synchs up with its desktop counterpart.
GAMES - PpcAtaxx (a much more interesting variant on the Othello/Reversi theme which is perfect while commuting) and PocketScumm, to play the old LucasArts graphic adventures
Thank you in advance for your help, I'll really appreciate it!
Hi I'll answer a couple of those

SCROLLING - You guessed right, it's Softkeys!
What is this? I'm having issues scrolling in PIE Plus since upgrading to AKU 2.3 and if this is an app i can try it may help. Do you happen to have a link to it?. TIA
Thanks for the first answers. Here are my first replies:
Meschle: I did check that thread, and it seems that Pocket Wakeup isn't very reliable at all... Also (but this is just an aside), the Italian translation of Pocket Wakeup was one of the worst apps I ever tried, totally borking the Wiz.
And about the registry tweak... I'm just a retarded farmgirl... no hacking tricks for me, please... I just can't believe there is no "download, run, forget" apps to enable the G protocol...
Mattucd & vijay555: Yup, that's it!
Romp: http://www.mycnknow.com/LockAppen.htm (My bad: the actual app name is EyeOnThief... I was confused by the actual filename)
Xandermac: Gah! I misquoted the name again! That would be Smartskey! I don't know if Smartskey will do anything for your problem, but it's right on this board, at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060
Any more takers, please?
Alarm Clock: AlarmClockE is the only alarm clock software that is reliable for me, at least for the time being...(until it fails, like all the other I tried including Pocket WakeUp)
MP3 Player: TCMP, it does pause the song or video currently playing upon incoming phone calls

Try mobialarm 3.2 then - I find this reliable and like it because it plays wma's http://guillaume.tristant.free.fr/
btw are you really a farmgirl?
Meschle: I am actually quite a bit of an IT girl, but sometimes I'd much rather go back to the farm. Case in point: MobiAlarm. To witness:
Installation notes :
- Uncompress the ZIP file in any directory in your PocketPC
- Run the CAB file, it will install a "runtime"
- Run the file called "install.app", it will install MobiAlarm[/url]
MobiAlarm link is located in \Windows\Start Menu\ or \Windows\Menu Démarrer\
The program himself is installed in \Program Files\MobiAlarm\
WHY?!? Why, I ask, should anybody need TWO installations for one godawful simple ALARM CLOCK, forchrissakes? And why does it end up tucked in a forsaken folder, with no icon anywhere? How should I be supposed to remind myself to browse up the Wizard to find a lone file among hundreds... just to get awaken on time?!?
And the punchline? I followed this guy's installation instructions: the runtime went smoothly, and his app simply never appeared anywhere. (my two cents: it found localized foldernames and aborted without any warning message).
Pat12: AlarmClock does the trick!!! No chance to get it playing Mp3s, apparently, but the ARM flavour gets the fade-in working. Thanks!

(my two cents: it found localized foldernames and aborted without any warning

TCPMP, www.tcpmp.org
I doubt better could be made
Thanks for the auto-tweak, meschle!
If only things were always so straightforward...
Kilrah: The link you provided ain't working, but I found this download page for other interested people: http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=53&release_id=224#r224 (the version you want is the "Windows Mobile Smartphone" one).
In fact Tcpmp is very close to perfect. I only found it strangely lacks Previous/Next buttons on the main screen... or is there a plugin or something to get it?
Just a little update to say I recently needed a tool to fix a storage card, and I was pointed to the non-free but very good SK Tools... yay for it!
By the way, any more suggestions for my initial search?
about TCMP, you are right:no next/prev button. But it's highly customizable and you can assign the otherwise useless softkeys to it. I did it and I can operate TCMP without getting the stylus out or using my greasy fingers on my clean screen
Well..I find it's much easier to have clean fingers
Just kidding. TCMP is a true gem.
Mortplayer is a pretty good free mp3 player. Also there is an alarm clock built in, so you can use ur mp3's to wake you up, and it's been pretty reliable for me. Good interface and not very processor intensive.

Thank you all! I'm treasuring your suggestions... and continuing my search for the remaining apps!
For launchbar try http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42913

Hi
New around these forums..
I've posted a in-progress of a project I'm working on. It's a kinetic scroller (you know that flick scroll effect). Remember this is a demo it doesn't actually do anything useful apart from amuse me!
Not as fluid/cool as iContact, but it's my first PPC application. The grand plan is to turn it into a library based MP3 player with a decent looking interface.
It's written in CF .NET so if you really need the source reflection is your friend.
Tested on a WM6 blueangel device @ 400Mhz. Runs in the WM2003 emulator
----
I've updated with source. No license, do whatever you want with it. Although a mention somewhere would be nice
Chad get this media player out the door now!
-------
New optimized demo released, source now updated.
Removing old source as the file name is confusing.
Thanks for all the comments.
-------------------------------------------------
**************************************
UPDATE:
gingercat has done some fantastic work loosely based on the original source and created a user control. Unlike my old code it doesn't use one big bitmap and just better written in every aspect. I'll leave my old source up just for reference as to how /not/ to write a kinetic scroller
I can't try it right now because I don't have my device, but it's nice to know that at least a few people still support WM2003/SE...

LOVELY! Why don't we work together to bring your scrolling routine, into my existing mp3 player "Melody". I've got playback and that sort of thing sorted out. Please PM me if you're interested.
anyone care to post a vid plz
slow scrolling and not as responsive as other scrolling software out there... but the idea is there ... i would also love to see smtg similar implemented in chad's media player (just my simple opinion)...

Thanks for the offer! This is a hobby project and I'd like to work on my own.
However I'm now going to release the source so you can use it..
Kinetic scroller, officially a part of Melody.:

Development
Hi
I was just wondering, how long will it take for you to make your product compatible to play Mp3 Songs, because I'm tierd of waiting for a Music Player, which is easy to use and fast. And by the way, I think your player is so far the best, it just has to get a litle better UI!!!
Well, here I am with release 002 of my kinetic scroller demo.
I've added alot of optimizations and its silky smooth on my 400Mhz device! It even runs great underclocked at 200Mhz.
Source to follow (once its cleaned up, probably tommorrow)
Thanks for this! Once again shows how it just takes one person to come up with a great idea (apple (or whoever initially came up with smooth scrolling)) then we all wonder how we lived without it!
I've just been reflecting over it and note that you are relying on .NET garbage collection to clean up e.g. all the graphics and brush objects you create - you need to be careful about this because this isn't deterministic and you can quickly run out of resources before it gets round to cleaning up. I know you say you're going to clean up the code anyway, but just thought I'd add my tip!
The holy grail would be if we can figure out how to hook mouse events, because then mouse movement can be processed independently of the form (and any other items on it). Unfortunately, CE doesn't support this (that I know of). The form approach only works if everything is semi-custom drawn.
This new version scrolls as good as or better than iContact, so you can remove that message on the first post.
on the other hand, the version currently implemented in melody v0.6 doesn't seem as good as this one.
btw, once you upload the new source, i'll see if i can make it stop selecting the first touched item when you are trying to scroll.
when thundershadow and i were making our own one we found the way to do this was to do something like listbox1.selectedindex = -1
it should be pretty easy to do.
also, something like this instead of the random number generator could get a list of the files in the current dir:
Code:
string[] r = System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName().CodeBase),".mp3");
klist = new KList(0, 20, screenX, screenY, "All Tracks");
for (int i = 0; i < r.Length; i++)
{
KItem ki = new KItem(i + ". " + r[i] + ".mp3");
klist.addItem(ki);
}
dunno if that is accurate or not.. haven't used c# that much.. but it should be easy todo.
Source is now up.
I've starting playing around with MP3 playback but please ignore it (Using the FMODCE .NET wrapper)

if you're intending on making it a practical-use app,
probably the best way to go about it is using the shell execute function to open the mp3's in whatever player they associated mp3's to (cos people will want features they prefer than other media players).
and then later on you can add an option to customize the command so the user can use it with a different media player without changing the associations.
so they'd have to make something like: "\SD Card\TCPMP\player.exe /open %mp3path%".
then the app just has to replace "%mp3path%" with the variable for the path to the selected mp3, and launch everything before it to shell.
you'd also need to add something like the code in my last post to get a list of the mp3's (tried it on my ppc and it doesn't work, so it needs to be fixed up though).

Yes, that something I was already considering.
To be honest, I'm not impressed with FMOD's performance. Even just initalizing the library is causing performance issues (without even playing a MP3, does fmod.init() spawn a thread or something???)
I'm looking for a port of MAD that I could interop with. If anyone knows of a libmad.dll for ARM WINCE point me in the direction!

afaik, performance-wise fmod would be the best library to use.
but the problem is that most people would rather use their own player like tcpmp or wmp that does what they want,
rather than just a basic player with a third-party library in .net cf.
New UserControl version
Hi dosfan,
I have modified the source to create a new KListControl which is a UserControl you can add to any .NET form. All the scroll functionality required is all contained within the new control.
This control doesn't pre-render everything up-front, so should be less memory hungry (especially with long lists) at the slight expense of some speed (runs fine on my hermes).
Each item is now custom drawn, and only needs to support an IKListItem interface - this enables each item to draw whatever it wants, whenever it wants (well, by nicely asking its parent to invalidate it when visible). I have created a basic KListItem object that supports string name, object value (and has the same functionality you provided).
I also updated the project to still compile with the new source, so (if you like the changes) you can continue work from there.
Updates I will still make are:
Better use of statics incase multiple lists are used (currently the background selection image is static)
Common timer between multiple instances of the control (for performance).
Hope you don't mind my changes!
Chris.
i've just modified gingercat's version to launch the selected mp3 using the windows shell.
to test it out you need to create a directory called "\\SD Card\\My Music", or change the variables in form1 and the klistcontrol to where your music dir is.
if the directory doesn't exist it will browse for mp3 files in the app's directory, then grab the folder of the one selected.
this is not a practical idea, and it won't change the variable in the klistcontrol,
so it wont be able to launch it through shell if you use the browsing method.
a better way would be to make it a folderbrowser dialog instead of a file one,
then make the folder variable in form1 a global variable, and the klistcontrol just grabs it from form1.
that still wouldn't work for subdirectories though.
for that you'd need to tag each klistitem with it's full file path or directory when it's being added.
also it should be pointed out that gingercat's version scrolls a bit too fast.
it's smooth so there aren't any performance issues.
it just goes too far with the tiniest tap up or down.
is there any way to capture all mouse events of the system?

Hey guys,
I want to know what cool program, functionality, or software you would like to see created. I am a .net programmer (among others) and would like some ideas of projects you would like to see. I would like to stay away from a graphic intense program and involved games, so think functionality, usefulness, fun, etc. If I get some good ideas, I will then add a poll, vote on the best one, then build it. I will release it under my donationware license which means it will be free. Right now I am finishing up my Golf Gps program (and will continue to support), but will start this project once we get it deceided. So Shoot me your ideas!

cool a programmer who need ideas
I have proposed something here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=434925
though it would maybe not appear as a grateful program for a developper ( a toolkit for other programs), it could be a good way to have a large diffusion through many config panels in different programs

Hi,
Maybe simple for .NET, but for me impossible to do (without performance/battery penaulty) with basic4ppc or mortscript. And thats all I can handle.
What I would like to have is a program that enables me to execute programs when specific events occur. I'd like to know when AC power gets connected/disconnected, when there is a change in screen orientation, and when a headset gets connected/disconnected and so on. Maybe even when an internet connection through WIFI is available/unavailable.
Also I'd like to know is a specific BT device is connectable/conneted. I'd like to know if a specific WIFI network is connectable/connected. I'd like to know if I'm at a specific location. All event driven, without a performance consuming programing loop or battery drain.
Yeah, all or even some of those options would make my digital mobile life so much easier
Good luck huntig for input, if you ever get bored contact me and make me happy
Cheers,
Cacti

Doable, handy, not a massive undertaking, I like it! Not sure I would go the .net route on something like this, as really a GUI is not required (except for settings maybe) and the overhead is large with .net. Certainly will add it to the list. Keep them coming!!

This would be pretty difficult unless all of developers used the same programming langauge/technique. The only real feasable way I see this working would be developers using a common set of graphics. That would be more of a graphic undertaking instead of programming. I do like the idea, but pretty hard to impliment.
Thanks

I would love to see something like Launchy for launching apps and files etc. as well as quick search of various types online. I'm guessing the on the fly search would require too much processing power, but if it's doable it would be awesome.
http://www.launchy.net/
I'm interested in new ideas too. I also use B4PPC.
Here's a few ideas:
-A tamagotchi, really. I was about to try this out tonight but Paint hates me.
-An app launcher like PetitLaunch on PalmOS. It's something that can pop from any app (hardware button) and when you type in extra letters it filters which apps are shown. I got this started and I can give you the files if you want.
-Pursue the development for Tippy. The source is on Nicbou.com/downloads if you want it.
-A time clock. A friend of mine notes down how long he works to make sure he doesn't get screwed and it takes him several minutes every week. He doesn't have a Pocket PC but maybe someone would be interested in something that tracks the hours you work and calculate the salary. I almost did this too.
And don't forget to share the source! If you need any help with B4PPC I'm here

Sounds simular to the app launcher listed in the next post, seems like there is a theme going on here, you all need some sort of good app launcher.

I'd like the Launchy features for search-on-the-fly off on board apps and file launching, but ever more for different site searches (google, maps, wikipedia, live, youtube, Amazon, etc).

I had to look up tamagotchi, either I am too old, or just out of the loop to know that 10 million of these things were sold! Wow! That could be fun, but would take a pretty fancy AI type system to really be fun.
A form of Tippy is already out there, 1-calc has some of the features built in already.
A time clock could be cool, maybe a stop watch type thing perhaps?
Never used B4PPC, I mainly use C# and Visual Studio. It looks like the old Visual Basic for desktops. And last but not least, depending on the project, I more than likely will release the source.
Thanks!!! Keep'em comin!

File Explorer Needs Help
Has anyone wanted to see a preview image in explorer's folder??
I'm not talking about fexplorerext2. although it is a fantastic enhancement; it takes a long time to load the preview immages.
I have a better idea (well, actualy MS thought of it first)
THUMBS.DB
for every folder that has an image file, this dll is created to replace cache of images. this way ou do not have to load it everytime and scale them down for thumbnail view. it is already there specificaly for each folder.
This alows the explorer to show a preview of the first image in the folder (or last created/accessed)
This is whatt I think WinMo is lacking - windows. lol.
I do not care much for the tabbed browsing. it hurts my head. too much scroling and not enough info. Icons work better I think, and waste less space on an already small screen.
well, that's been on my wishlist for a very long time. a dll that ataches to the already existing explorer making it work better.
Thanks for workin g on something new
program that makes led lights flash when phone rings would be nice
Interesting...I will have to think about how to tackle that. It would basically take a new file explorer (like total commander). This might be a bit larger than I want to tackle, but will research it a bit before ruling it out.

This would be very difficult as not every device handles the leds the same. Also, not every device has the same leds (color, # of, etc). I think No2Chem has a int. driver, but think it is only for the titan. Would be cool though...

Fexplorer2 is basically a dll that works with the original file explorer context menu. there is a small exe that overwrites the original explorer to make it think that the explorer"s context menu has already been opened.

EXE 2 to make thumbs db

I have been looking for a program that would stop the music (S2P, Audio Manager, or WMP etc...) if during playback of the music the headset is removed. Or for instance, when the device is on vibrate and you connect headset, it automatically changes profile to normal or something.
Another one is when I dock my device (or connect AC basically), I'd like clock program (or home screen, or photo slideshow, etc...) to come up automatically.
A feature that I miss from my older phones is the ability to set them to beep every minute during a phone call.
Now these are very general and not specific features. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me!
Thank you,

The launcher on the 103 looks a lot like manilla, I know it is diff, but to me it seems mainly by presentation, not functionality. I do however like the notification top bar like that on android. Not sure how difficult taking over the top bar would be. I will do some digging.

Tiny application for Windows Media Player control via shortcuts. WMP must be running before executing any of this command. I hope some of you may find it useful.
Use following parameters (only one each time) in a shortcut.
-pause for play/pause
-volup for volume up
-voldown for volume down
-next for next track
-prev for previous track
For example
Code:
Shortcut-Volume-Up.lnk
00#"\Program Files\wmpcontrols.exe" -volup
It should work all WM 5 and later devices (both PPC/SP platforms).
Download
wmpcontrols.zip
very nice
this is really great for people using WMP... thankfully we have A_C's S2P
It'd be amazing, if we can control CorePlayer in this way! I hope you'll find a way to add this feature in near future.
antourage:
Sure, I will do that when I will have some time.
Do these same paths control the player functions of TF3D?
If they do it would be way cool to see A_C incorporate them into S2U2 and allow a user to pick to either cotrol S2P or WMP with his lock controls.
Curious G
Pure win. Thank you.
Doesn't coreplayer use wmp as a base? Or is that just the library functions?
Anyway, this is really useful for things like XMT and other widget type programs, thanks a lot.
[edit] One suggestion though.
Could we maybe get an installer or at least suggest a specified directory to put it in.
That way, if theme writers and stuff want to use it they know where it "should" reside.

Ok, I have updated the files. Plus the installer creates a folder in the Start Menu with all the current shortcuts (may be useful for easy hardware key assignment).
Stumbled upon this by chance.
Anyway, I'd want to recreate the old functionality of the media player buttons on my XPhone IIm and would like to know how to map these shortcuts to the buttons. Thnx
moneytoo,
Great app!
I've been able to remap some of the keys on my Diamond2:
(long press, 250 ms)
SEND: play/pause
WINKEY: previous track
BACK: next track
Exactly what I wanted!
Is there a way you can do the same with TouchFLO 3D's music tab (that would just be perfect)?
To g4g0:
You need to get a key remapper that is compatible with your device. xda it.
Thanks a lot, moneytoo!

It's possible with S2P ?
This program works on WM 6.5.x, or not?
No any reaction when I launch any shortcut for manage a WMP((
yes it works ok on 6.5
thanks for this app
Actually it may not work in some cases. The paths in the shortcut are for English rom (the "Program Files" folder has different names in different localizations). The shortcuts also expect to be installed in the device memory (storage memory or memory card will fail)
It's easy to fix though. Either open the various shortcuts using a text editor and change the path according to your localization or copy the program folder to the correct path.
zoidberg: I wanted to advice him of checking for correct path in links, but as he said, no response, that would mean links are ok, (no error) and the program is just calling wrong wParam/lParam as I suppose that's how it's controlling wmp.
In any lang mutation those should still be the same.
As well if he would change mapping inside wmp, that shouldn't have any effect.
Here I run out of ideas and just wrote: yes it's working in 6.5, just to eliminate possible problem for him.
Maybe he is using different player which is just skinned into wmp?? Or a complete strange version of wmp.
