Configure hotmail on WM6 8525 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Can anyone help me (or direct me to the thread) on how to configure hotmail message on my WM6 8525. I don't know the incoming/outgoing settings. If I choose automatic config, it takes me to IE.
thanks

Automatic e-mail check and receive

Hello everybody,
I'm a satisfied user of a MDA Vario, but I have some questions about tweaking the software. Is it possible to receive e-mail from pop3 accounts automaticly, like SMS? I don't wanna check it every time, I rather like it when it gives me an notification.
Thanks in advance,
Ruud
When setting up the email account there is usually an option to connect to the internet and check every X minutes for new email. X can usually be a value between 1 and 59 I think. That is what is normally available by default with the Windows OS I am sure there are other packages (that can be purchased) that offer more options. I use the same setup and it is fine for me
Yes there are others solutions as well. I'm using vgsmail for this. It's an imap client, so you need an imap account instead of a pop account. The software is still under development & not everyone is pleased with it. http://www.vgsmail.com/ppc/

One problem with this one though.
It doesn’t work from standby, your device has to be switched on to receive notifications.

Thank you, but I don't have an IMAP e-mail, I use DirectAdmin, and IMAP is not supported. I can't change the interval setting, I think there's no one.. could anyone give me detailled support?

On you wizard, open outlook, open your mail account.
Menu/tools/options
Select your mail acc
next (e-mail address)
next (user login)
next (acc type)
the server info page (page 4/4)
options:
Connect & check for messages every: <check box> <pick time period> <pick connection network>
Then it should use wifi/gprs/dun whatever you have set as the network type to check your mail to the frequency you require.
IF you only want it to auto check when on wifi, and not on GPRS (costs etc) you will need to edit your networks (you can add more to have 1 just for wifi) start/settings/connections/connections
Hope it helps
Thank you, this is where I'm looking for!

Trying to make a new profile for this, but wifi does not show up under "modem" connection. Am I missing something here?

in the advanced connections tab click "select networks" (this is where you made a new profile) set the new profile as "internet"
then it'll apear on the settings page, configure it as required then change back to normal network as required.

Virgin UK Network Settings CAB file

I know that there have been requests for this so here we are.
The attached ZIP file contains the CAB to automatically configure GPRS and MMS connections for the Virgin UK network. It has been successfully tested on an XDA II and SPV M1000, both of which are running 2003 SE. I don't have a pre-2003 or Mobile 5 device to try it on so I don't know if it works on them.
The 2 connections which are set up are called:
Virgin GPRS - this has been configured to also allow MSN Messenger to be used.
Virgin MMS
Before using it, I would advise the removal of any existing GPRS and MMS connection settings (though the choice is obviously yours). I would also advise to check that your happy with all of the MMS options/settings following the install (e.g. Save Sent messages is switched off with this CAB).
At last - God knows what i was doing wrong but with this cab and some manual setup of the Connection side of thing i have managed to send an MMS.
This CAB setup the MMS side perfectly (nothing on GPRS) - as i was typing from what i can gather ok for IP i was using the full xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and server name i had put goto.virginmobile.uk whereas this cab just say picture message (not sure if this would cause and issue), but i am doing the connection via: My Work Network as thats where i setup the GPRS, rather than internet.
My Mobile is a Voda Compact III 1605, running HTC Rom 1.35 with windows mobile 5 - and have sent my 1st MMS after trying over a few days!
thanks
How do I install this cab file?
Copy the CAB file to your device and execute it...
sbgorner, you rule!!!
iv been trying to get my mms to work for 5 days now and was readt to smash my phone to pieces. your cab worked perfectly.
Thanks V Much

I tryed it, No luck.
It installs on my O2 XDA mini s, but still no connection
Maybe you know some other way to do it.
Many Thanks
Remove old network connections before installing the CAB
The CAB file does really rely on the fact that there are no existing network specific connection details installed on the XDA. The best way to ensure that old network connections are not affecting the Virgin settings is to delete them, i.e. ensure that only the standard "My ISP" and "My Work Network" entries are still present.
1) Go to Start->Settings and on the "Connections" tab, tap on the Connections icon.
2) Tap on the "Advanced" tab.
3) Tap on the "Select Networks" button.
4) Use the drop-down arrow to select an entry (do not select "My ISP" or "My Work Network").
5) Tap on the "Edit..." button.
6) Tap on the "General" tab.
7) Tap on the "Delete Settings" icon.
8) Repeat steps 4 to 7 until all of the entries (do not select "My ISP" or "My Work Network") have been removed.
Having removed all of the network specific connection entries, try reinstalling the Virgin UK cab file again and everything should work.
You diamond. Just sent Virgin a bollocking. They suggested I contact O2 about setting this up. Your cab file much appreciated by a middle aged member.
Thanks
Will try!
Much appreciated!

Just tried this after a week of trying various settings, now got access to gprs, thanks.
I have followed your instructions but after running the CAB file the VArio II still doesn't connect. If I click on the edit settings link it doesn't think there are any settings, as I only have the option to install a new ISP. However if I try to manually install a new ISP using the name Virgin GPRS it won't let me as it says a connection already exists with that name, but nowhere can I find any trace of that connection. What is going on please?

I'm in exactly the same position with my O2 XDA mini S.
I could possibly try using a different ISP name but I'd rather find out why this is happening and delete the connections made by the CAB file. As I can't find the connections though I can't delete them.
Ok, Time for an update.
Using Virgin GPRS2 didn't work and I've found out how to remove the setting created by the CAB file. I went to add and remove programs and removed the changes that way.
I have followed the instructions from this thread to no avail. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238042&highlight=virgin+gprs
I'll keep plodding along but if someone can offer any suggestions i'd lve to hear them.
Ps. Don't be rude.
Hi Bouncypete
I also discovered that I could get rid of the bad settings using remove programs, but am also no further forward in finding the correct settings. I have sent a private email to sbgorner (he doesn't appear to subscribe to any forums) but have not had a reply. Anybody else out there got any ideas?
Virgin GPRS settings
Hi Bouncypete -success!!!
I have found an older posting from sbgorner which gives a blow by blow manual way of doing the settings and it works!!.
I will try and attach this as a pdf, but if the attachment doesn't come through then email me and I will send it to you direct
ran VirginUK.CAB - no settings added
I deleted all the old gprs etc connection settings and ran CAB file, but get no settings visable in network connections just "my isp" and my work network". When I try and enter settings manually I get to the "modem" new page and enter Virgin GPRS or MMS select Cellular GPRS/3G and next and it tell me I'm adding a duplicate setting although there are no settings visible. This happens after removing the CAB settings that make no difference in remove programs? Any Ideas apart from clearing the phone down?
Thanks for the pdf link - sorted me & my orbit out
Virgin UK network settings
I have been trying for ages to get my HTC Blueangel to link into the internet.
This CAB file did the job for me. Surprise, surprise (for me at least) IT WORKS.
Mobile internet here I come!

MMS account gone after reset

I've searched all over but can't see a reference to this, so I suspect I'm missing something basic - sorry if that's the case!
I have an (ex) O2 XDA Mini S that has been unlocked and is running on Orange UK. This worked OK, but was slow and had all the O2 settings, customisation etc.
I followed the steps to hard reset and then stop any customisation and that worked fine. The unit now performs (and looks IMO) much better. I have set the Orange GPRS and MMS settings and (GPRS anyway) works fine.
Everything is synced up etc, but the one thing that is missing is an MMS "Account" - i.e. if I go into Messaging and choose "Switch Accounts", there is no MMS option (I get Hotmail, Outlook and Text Messages). I do have the MMS configuration option which I have gone through and set up.
I went to the ROM and ran the SmartDialing_enable_0915_signed and CAB-Shortcut-MMS1-JAVA5XX-VOICE-O2-31Oct05 cab files. This seems to have worked because I get the quick dialling and the Midlet manager has appeared, but still no MMS composer.
I don't want to run the full O2 customisation as I have no interest in running this with O2 and would have to change all the settings anyway.
Can anyone help with info or pointers as to what I may have missed to get the MMS option please?
TIA

Thanks - do you mean this thread?
If so then that seems to relate to settings, which is not my issue - I have the settings and have configured the MMS server, but can't see the MMS "account" in the messaging menu.
try to search MMS_Composer_Z.cab file on forum....i downloaded it from xda-developers but i cannot remember where...

Setting up GPRS and MMS for O2 (pay and go)

Hi,
I've just upgraded my Blue Angel (O2 XDA IIs) to Xplode's latest WM6 ROM and its working perfectly appart from MMS and GPRS.
I've installed both MMS cab files and I can compose an MMS message, but when I try to send the message, it will say sending, but the message will remain in the outbox and it will never get sent.
Similarly, I cannot access the internet through Internet Explorer with GPRS.
Can anybody please tshow me exactly how to setup my Blue Angel for this?
Thankyou,

Your first problem seems to be GPRS setting. If that is not set properly, even MMS will not work.
GPRS: I am not familiar with O2 parameters, but you need to go to Settings > Connections > Connections and MY ISP and create a new or manage an existing connection. Parameters needed are : Connection name, modem of Cellular Line(GPRS), access point name, User Name (O2 's GPRS users name), and password.
This should be enough to set your GPRS settings.
Once this is set, you need to setup MMS. Open Messaging, then Menu > Options > click on MMS. Go to Servers Tab and click New, here you need to set Server name, Gateway, port number, server address and most important is the connect via, set My ISP (GPRS connection name). You are all set and set this MMS as your default.
Install HTC Network Wizard, go to Settings-Connections-Network Wizard, choose your country and operator, soft reset and voila!
DANDANA is right , it will work for you.
But as we know Network Wizard has limited list of operators so for example it is useless to me and i have to perform all of the settings manually, because my operator is not on the list

Whilewe are on the mms/gprs subject:
at the moment, i have 2 settings on my gprs connection 1. gprs wap (internet) 2. mms
the way it works is, if i need to connect t internet then i need to set up connection to gprs wap MANUALLY, and the same thing for mms.
the problem is if my connection is set up on gprs, and there is an incoming mms, it fails to receive automatically.
how can i set it up automatically? I know there is "AUTO PICK" option, but I tried it before and it doesnt work.... or does it?
how do you guys set this up?
Thanks
Try this CAB
Or you can try to use Schap's Operator settings....

Email setting on dual touch

I can not use any of my email accounts (gamail, yahoo) on my phone,
when I press send/recive appears message:
cannot connet with current cooneting setting, if you want to change go on connection settings
but my internet (Explorer or Opera) is working perfectly
if anyone have a clue please save me
Did you set up the incoming/outgoing servers manually?
I'm not sure if it's the case but I registered at izymail.com and then used the izymail servers and it works a charm.
How about you try that?
E-Mail issue to be solved!
What providers (GSM and mail) do you use?
I do have the same problem and several others posted exactly this issue in several other threads.
This definitely is a problem which hasn't been solved.
Isn't there a charming developer out there who knows how to solve this
By the way, recommending to change the e-mail provider does not really help and obviously not solve the issue!
Did you choose a connection in Email setup? My Dual asks me which connection (internet, business, vpn etc.) to use. It's in the window for smtp server under advanced options. There you can select the correct setting. Maybe you have the wrong in there.
Cheers, Dennis
Maybe there's a proxy set in your 3g connection. I have vodafone and is automatically setups a proxy, which causes email and live messenger problems. Just disabling the proxy in connection settings worked for me.
No Proxy
I figured something strange out. If I disconnect the 3G connection in the Comm manager, then press send/receive the device once connects with the e-mail server and even downloads the headers. As soon as I want to download an e-mail I get the same message again: "Could not connect to server, check your inbox account login-information"!
That drives me insane! If I disconnect again from 3G and then press send/receive it works again - JUST ONCE.
It's the same for POP or IMAP.
Would be nice if somebody could help out.
Thanks in adavance
I have had exactly the same problem since I installed the Mary 6 ROM on my touch dual and have the problem with two different email accounts so It's definitely not an issue with those settings.
When you install the new ROM it auto detects your network (I'm on T- mobile UK) and sets up all of the connections automatically so I'm guess the problem lies there.
Does anyone know where I can verify that these settings are correct?

I had the same problem on t-mobile uk after flashing the new official 6.1 rom.
I solved it by disabling the proxy server START-SETTINGS-CONNECTIONS-CONNECTIONS-MANAGE EXISTING CONNECTIONS-PROXY SETTINGS. Internet access still works I also did a hard reset after flashing the rom, but that may not be relevant.
