Caps Lock won't go away - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

During typing I often get to a point where the 7500 thinks that I have pressed a combination of keys to get the Caps Lock on, only it won't stop. I can't find a combination of keys to turn Caps Lock off & can only reset the device.
Does this affect anyone else ?
Any help ?

The 'red dot' (bottom left on keyboard) and shift key turn caps ON or off.

Now, when it comes to the 7501, the red dot is 'blue'. Also, to set caps lock on and off, you have to hold down the Shift Key and touch the Blue Dot key!
Thanks for your tip on the combination, though, as it caused me to reverse what to me would be the normal procedure, ie hold the Blue Dot key down and touch the Caps Lock key which never would work for me.

He who is still learning at age 74 shows true humility..

I found out the caps lock actived on the onschreen keyboard reverses the actions of the HW keyboard functionality!

True (on mine a blue dot) but it only turns it off for one character and then goes back to Caps Lock, that's why I am saying it is stuck on, I have tried all key combinations to make it go away.
It may just be my machine.

HOLD DOWN the shift key and then touch the Blue Dot key. Locks caps on and off alternately when you do it.
Once I managed to lock the numeric/special character keys on but can't find the combination again

I just checked the User Manual and it is all messed up with respect to Upper Case/Lower Case. I do not find that having the soft keyboard set to caps does anything on my device.
Brad

This happens to me a lot too. It happens when I press shift and then quickly another key (also only when the Athena is reacting slow already because of whatever it's doing in the background or so). For some reason it sees the other key as that pressed the shift key again. After that it doesn't swith off easily.
I find that it switches back off when I double press the Shift key and then a regular key. That one is still in caps, but then the caps is off.

This sounds like the same behavious I am getting (I am not dismissing the other posts here, but I am not new to XDAs and I know how to turn CL off under normal circumstances) - the 7500 simply keeps itself in CL even when you turn off on the keyboard. I also think it is when I am typing quickly (if that is really possible on this kb).
I'll try this solution next time it happens, but I am sure that this is a bug.

Doesn't work for me. Strangely I had Transcriber mode on (I write a lot) and trying to change back to keyboard doesn't work. There is something wrong with the input somewhere, a re-flash is required over the weekend I think.

I get CAPS-lock when I pres shift and then quickly just about any other key (double shift or a letter). Seems like it has to be timed just right and then it happens. The same combination will switch it back off again. Although again, it seems to need to be timed just right. I only get it once in a while.
Have you tried "dot" and then "shift" to switch the caps lock off again?

Vario II Cap Key/Shift and the button with the circle

Right I have now bought a Tmobile Vario II upgrade and so far the keyboard seems to be working okay.
Serial Number is a HT632
two questions
if you use the CAP Locks button by mistake how do you take it off from CAP locks? If I press the Cap locks and then again the C doesn't disapear.
Same for the the function button which looks like a bullet point in the bottom left section of the qwerty keyboard. To get it off it I have to double click the function button.
Press the blue dot and CAPS/SHIFT to get CAPS lock on, repeat the procedure to turn off.
Double press the blue dot to switch num lock on, one press to turn off.
Does that answer your question?
thats what i was looking for thanks bydandie.

keyboard mode

I have the 8125 from cingular, which I think is the same as the Wizard. I am very happy with it (could use some more built in memory, I think), but there is one thing I haven't figured out yet:
Once in a while the keyboard goes into a mode where I cannot write the normal letters. Instead each key produces the alternate symbol (in red on the 8125 keyboard). I probably hit 2 keys simultaneously and set the keyboard into that mode. How do I get back to the normal mode from there?

It sounds like you hit the "num lock" key on the keyboard twice (that is the one with the little dot on the bottom left hand corner of the keyboard). You should look for the registry hack that shows you on the screen when you are in caps or num lock. I can't recall what the hack is called right now but it will be in the Wiki.
That's probably it. I just tried it and by hitting the num lock key again twice I seem to be able to get out of it again. Thanks for your help. I'll check the Wiki.

Phone usage question

If I need to press a key during phone call (e.g. do delete a voicemail, I need to press 7), how do I do that? My screen turns off when I talk.
Thanks

When I talk, the screen turns off. Pressing home button does not turn it on. Is there a setting to turn the screen on if the home button is pressed?
during a call just press the power button on top and your hd goes on.

Please switch off your light sensor. I have just fixed the same problem, using HD Tweak utility. I have just posted details in my posting please seach posts by avaion99, you find the solution.
Even though I do not have the HD, I find that useful, since I usually move around when I am on the phone, and I do not want to press anything I do not want to press. Its the same on the iPhone, you press the power to snap it back on. Its just hard to get used to the first couple of days.

Turn on Screen button

Is there any way to change the key to turn on the screen? The Power button is on the top and I bet most people hold the bottom of the phone, I can't reach the top button with one hand....
Thanks,

You can try mapping it with this program.
I haven't tested on power button though.
Although it would work if I map the 'END' button to "screen power toggle". I also lost the End funtion....
Do you guys use two hands to turn on the screen everytime you use? I was so used to My Treo Pro that I can use the END key to turn on the screen...
Thanks,
First, there's a never version of keyboardcontrol.
Second, you have to set end key normal standard and e.g. longpress to turn on.

[Q] Making touch keys less touchy/easier unlock

Annoying Touch buttons
I think that the most DHD users have the same problem, touching the buttons at the bottom if you really dont want to.
So my question is if it would be possible to change the "Home" or the "Menu" button (pushing long) from "last used apps" to "turn on/off the touch keys???
that would be awsome
thx Dr.Pepper
Never been an issue for me, although i was anticipating problems with no hardware buttons its been fine...

Can't help but say, "you're holding it wrong!"
Seriously though I've never encountered this problem on either this phone or my N1 which has a smaller screen.
How exactly are you managing to press the buttons by mistake?
Regards.
iam the only one who has the problem that he accidently hits a touch key while using the phone or playing a game? every little contact triggers the keys. i.e. if i use the thumb to type a message, holding the phone in the right hand, i sometimes trigger the search key.
my idea is to make it harder to trigger these keys. as they are part of the touchscreen, it sould be possible to do anything that can be done with the touch sreen. my ideas:
1. double-touch; tapping the key 2 times (like a double-klick) triggers it once
2. sweep; i.e. you touch the home-button and sweep out of it, then release. can be even harder with sweeping out and back in.
3. circle-touch; making a little circle over the button triggers it.
other ideas welcome.
---------------------------------
2nd problem: easier unlocking;
i feel it sometimes tricky to unlock the pone, wich is done by pressing the powerbutton at the top of the phone and sweeping on the bottom of the screen. the phone is'nt very small (or i have small hands). if iam holding the phone at the bottom, i can nearly reach the whole touch area with my thumb, but to unlock, i need to use my 2nd hand or to juggle the phone so i can reach the power button with the right hand. with the G1, which had a menu button at the bottom, it was just double-pressing that button and the phone was unlocked. iam looking for a similar easy way to do it.
its just annoying to take the phone out of the pocket and use both handy or juggle around to unlock it...
i dont know it it wastes additional energy to have the touchscreen active, so it can be used to unlock the phone. so my ideas:
1. use the touchscreen to unlock; i.e. draw a pattern, press the bottom key in some order (home, back, menu to unlock)
2.1 use the volume keys. if the screen is disabled, they are used to change the audio volume (or is that only the case, if music is playing?) When holding the phone at the bottom with the right hand, the volume-down hey is easily reachable. so you can do volume-down (which activates the screen) and then slide on the screen like you would do if you have pressed the power button. pressing volume-down with deactivated screen does not change the volume, but pressing it twice does (i.e. 1st press unlocks the screen and 2nd press takes volume down).
2.2 press vol-up and vol-down at the same time to unlock the phone. if i do that the phone vibrates sometimes, no idea why.
3. use acceleromater (or a other sensor?) to unlock, i.e. shaking the phone in a special way (i.e. a circle), activates the screen, so you can unlock it by sliding on it. also full unlock by shaking a phone could be possible (also known as kung-fu-unlock )
other ideas also welcome.
Proximity sensor for unlock when taking it out of the pocket :-D. I have the same problem as you so a 'fix' would be nice
yeah, you take the phone out of the pocket and it unlocks and says "hello raw, how you are doing?".
but that would be nice. question is if constantly checking the prox sensor would drain the battery much. it needs to be checked every 3 seconds or so.
