Looking for good security software for my Wizard - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I am looking for some good security software to protect the confidential information on my Wizard. Basically I'm looking for something that can encrypt the SD card and the My Documents folder on the phone (preferably on the fly while I'm writing or reading the file) and also something that can remote lock / wipe the SD card and phone. I am not connected to an Exchange server so it will have to be a stand alone app.
Can anyone give suggestions of apps they are using and are happy with. I'm looking for something reliable. So far I've come across
Remote lock / wife software
RemoteProtect
mSafe
MobileSky Eraser
Encryption software
SplashID (Not really what I want but it looks useful to have too?)
SecuBox
FileBarricador
Any comments / suggestions welcome.

I use remote protect on my wizard. It sends info to another cell via text when a new sim has been inserted. It can be configured to wipe the whole phone and shut it down if the phone is lost or stolen. I've tested this using my friends sim card, and it sent a text message with the new sim card phone number listed, to my secondary number. So I had the phone number right there of who had my phone. I don't remember, but it may have also sent the imei number as well. It sits on your device and on your home pc (or work or whatever). From the pc you send a message to kill the device. From the device, if an incorrect password is entered when a new sim is inserted, it locks the phone out completely until the correct password is entered. I have gone in via active-sync and gone to Windows/StartMenu/Programs and deleted the icon, so if it is lost or stolen, it is not seen listed as remote protect in the programs. As for encrypting, don't use it, can't help you.

Thanks. I'll give RemoreProtect a try.
Just need to find something to encrypt some folders on the SD card and the device.

FreeOTFE and FreeOTFE4PDA are the best you can get for encryption - it encrypts everything you store on your SD card, and there's a PC version do you can run it on your desktop as well as mobile device

Password locked phone: anyway to hack and access data?

Guys,
My wife put in a password to lock her phone (sensitive data) and now she doesn't know what it is, is there a way that I can dump the contents or access the data on the device? She took client notes on it and they were not set to be sync'd with her desktop, she needs them desperately. I'm the one that set up the syncing for NOTES and not WORD docs so I'm in deep S&*t with her!
The docs are in 'my documents' on the phone and not on the SD card.
Anyone able to do it?
Is there a limit on the number of try's?
When using a remote viewing/control software could I simple write a program that continues to run through the 9999 combos or the x trillion combos if she used the alpha-num setting? Are you able to enter the password on the desktop machine?
I like my private parts, please help!
I know a hardreset will dump everything on the phone and then she would be able to use the phone but I'll still be missing a couple of valuable parts of my body, if you know what I mean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try to get your wife to remember at least the first number, so that you only have 999 tries before you actually find the correct code.
I didn't think it was to much to ask her to reminber the other 3 also but as wives will do, its still my fault for not backing it up!
Don't know anything that might help right now, but if I find something, I'll let you know. Also, for information, you might want to try SignWise - it uses a signature as a 'password' - and it's quite good
if my memory is correct (which isn't always the case) there is a program that shows your xda screen on the pc and you can manipulate it there. This in cooperation with a macro/keyrecorder you might get thru it. It probably would still need a lot of editing of the macro.
Thanks guys,
dcs, but then I won't be able to check on her
Does anyone know how to hack this?
Im stuck too. I thought maybe downloading the rom to the SD card might work, but you would have to do hard reset which would lost the data.
You might be able to try setting the active synch to backup up word documents (do it from the pc) then put the XDA in the cradle. Then try to forcefully synch from the PC. It might bypass the password.
I may have a solution, give me a couple of days to try it out and I'll let you know. In the meantime dont hard
reset orplay with it.
Cradeling the device requires the password before the connection is completed so I can't explore the device.
it's not an xda then i suppose ?
because all the xda's i've had synch without the password unless you are forming a new pathership
Its an MDAIII, but I think it still works the same with the WM2003 XDA. Maybe the solution in an old active sync, but I don't think I can go back in a version because the device is updated when I went to 3.7
Can anyone confirm if you can access data when a password is set using an old active sync?
well i can confirm that when i once types in the password for a connection and make it save it then i'm never required to type in the password again when i sync
If I had the Password the first time she entered it we could have done that but she forgot it before it was ever sync'd with the computer. So I need the password for the first time.
Anyone ever use this?
pget.exe gets files from your PocketPC.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/XdaUtils
pget.exe Doesn't work until the password is entered to establish the link, it just sits there waiting for a connection. As soon as the Password is entered, it dumped the files to the PC (testing on my phone)
You may patch Active Sync so that it would not stop asking you a password after 3 wrong attempts:
old wcescomm.exe - patched WCESCOMM.EXE
00006C26: 74 90
00006C27: 05 90
Then you can "guess" the password by a bruteforce.
This patch is for ActiveSync 3.7.1 build 4034
You should kill WCESCOMM.EXE process before patching.

File transfer from PC to SD card in MDA Compact, Active Sync

I cannot copy a file ( movie, MP3, text file etc) directly from my PC to the SD card in the MDA. In Active Sync I should do this using the Explore button, but when I press it I get the following error: "Critical Communications Services have failed to start. Try resetting your Mobile Device and connect it again". Well, resetting and reconnecting doesn't work, reinstalling active sync doesn't work and opening the Mobile Device icon in my Windows Explorer on my pc gives the same error.
So now I have to copy each file into RAM first and then to my storage card, but since most avi files are too big for the RAM, this is not good enough. Does anyone know what causes the error and how I can fix it?
You didn't mentioned if the issue is related to a single SD or not.
If yes, perhaps a card format (eventually from Windows Mobile) may help...
Bye,
@ngel
do you have a firewall installed? did you set the right permissions for ActiveSync processes?
SD Card Locked?
Hello there
Have you set your SD card to 'Lock'? I have tried transferrring to and from the JAM without any issues so far using both Bluetooth and USB activesync.
Moreover you did mention that you are able to sync, so its not likely to be an activesync problem either. Finally, if you have a desktop firewall you should probably check the settings on that as well - you may have inadvertently (or knowingly) disabled filetransfers of certain types.
Cheers
Sands
It was the firewall...
Ok, I feel sooooo stupid right now!
Your remarks about the firewall triggered my memory, I use the Zonealarm firewall, and altough I had enabled internet access I had not enabled file transfer... After enabling that, I can now see the SD card in Explore. Thanks for your advice!
Cool
Good to hear that you've sorted it out. Funny I didnt have the issue with Zone Alarm or NIS, though...must check it out!
Cheers
Sands
The problem was related to the fact that I had not allowed Windows Explorer to access the internet. After I adjusted that, file transfer through Explorer is working fine. thanks for the advice!

Connect to PC without active sync

Are there any apps that put the phone into like a media storage mode so I can connect to a computer without active sync and still be able to add files to the sd card inside?
I need the same thing. I'm using WM6.

Hi,
Not 100% sure I understand what your trying to do?
I think your trying to move files to and from your SD Card without using activesync?
If so: You have many options.....
~Bluetooth Explorer - It's like having a Shared folder, where you can pull only the needed files you want to keep and copy / paste them anywhere on your WM6 device.
~SD Card Reader - Via Stand alone or a printer to move files back and forth
~Bluetooth FTP - (My Favorite) Move Files and Folders - To & From (PC & PDA)
~WIFI - Depending on your network setup
~Internet Sharing - Via Bluetooth or USB (May need to look at your network setup & security)
~Remote Desktop - Via Bluetooth or USB (Security & Network settings may need to be changed)
Hope this helps!

I'm using Resco Explorer 2007 which allows me to, via wifi, connect to 2 of the computers within my private network. Set up a folder dedicated for PPC files and mapped a network drive to it on my 8525.
I have not been able to connect via wifi to my windows server 2003 machine though.
You want the wm5torage application - it will allow you to put your WM5 or WM6 device into a mode that makes it act as a Mass Storage Device.
The only caveat is that it needs to lock the SD card before putting the device in Mass Storage Mode, so you must install any applications that run constantly (i.e. programs that have Today screen plugins, like Skype) into the device and not on the SD card, or it won't work.
The latest version I know of (that I use) is version 1.73, but there is apparently a version 1.75 at http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=1543.

I have this program, but I *constantly* get CRC errors when transferring a couple of files..its so bad that the app basically doesn't work when transferring more than a couple of megs of data.
Anyone else see this?

[Q] Never use WiFi access point?

Is there any way to tell Android (or CM7, if there's a difference) to never use a particular access point? There are three APs at my office that look equivalent as far as the WiFi software can tell, but two are unusable for administrative reasons, and I'd like to tell my NC to just ignore them. Sometimes it latches onto one of the wrong ones and I have to connect to the right one manually.
Can't just forget them, because they come back next time it scans.
Thanks!
If they can't be accessed then why are they there at all? If they can be accessed by certain people then shouldn't they be password protected? Maybe I'm not understanding the question but In my home I have 2 one connect to everything on my internal network and that's password protected. The other is for guests which don't need a password.
Anyways I did find this app. I have never used it but from the looks of things it may help.

The answer has more to do with the administratium density in the building than anything sensible. One is fully open, another is open at the 802.11 level and password protected, but you have to access an internal website to find today's password, and the third is is inside the firewall but 802.1x protected and they don't support Android for that.

Thanks for the pointer! I've installed it, and it helps quite a bit. I reliably get the new mail notification noise from my bag before I pass through security.

Disable remote wipe from Sorporate

I've been using my personal phone (Touch Pro 2 Windows Mobile 6.5 prof) to get my email when traveling. My company just changed exchanged servers and corporate policies that require a PIN to be entered to used the phone, as well as a remote wipe should you exceed the logon tries, or if they just want to (like when you leave the company. The wipe will include all your personal data/apps, including what's on the sd card. Obviously this concerns me ad I did an immediate backup of everything.
I found registry setting throigh the forums to disable the auto pin required, removing the auto wipe if tries time etc and they work fine. Also found the "StayUnlock" app just in case I see them reapply this policy.
The real question is - how can I prevent the remote wipe should they choose to invoke? There doesn't appear to be any registry setting for that, more like a built in capability of the the 6.5 activesync function from what I've read on the net. I'm thinking I need to find some way to disable their ability to perform commands remotely on my phone - without losing the exchange connection altogether. Any ideas on how to accomplish this?
