Help for a newbie please...

Hi, I have recently taken delivery of a XDA Mini S on O2 (pay monthly) but it is sooooo slow at opening and closing programs it has started to annoy the hell out of me (especially Tom Tom).
I have read a couple of articles about how to speed things up but now I can't find them (even after searching)
I have updated the ROM to the latest version (and did the basic install) but it doesn't seem to have made any difference at all.
The other question I have is (and sorry if it's a silly one but again I have searched for answers on here) can you change the text message ring tone/alert?
I have managed to add my own MP3's for use as ring tones but I can't see where to add the new tone to use as a incomming text message alert tone (I have tried adding it to several places but it never shows up).
Thank you in advace
Hey go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39725&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 registry wizard should help you with some registry hacking to speed up a bit, mind you nothing drastic, but it should help some, as far as the notifications go, they are probably kept in the \windows folder and I suppose that they need to be a specific format or something. Alarm1.wav for example is PCM audio 11025 Hz Mono at 176 kbit/s file size is 17kb mayb if you encode a file to those specs it may work.... mayb haven't really tried so I'm not sure.

Qtek Problem and a noob question!

Hi guys! I have recently bought a Qtek S200 device. When i wanna register on Qtek website for updates and etc. it says ur IMEI is wrong! I noticed that the code I get from mobile has an extra "00" in the end while the one printed on the box is a normal IMEI. does anybody have a clue?!
And i also wanted to know how can i personalize my SMS Alert tone?
tnx!
Q2) Settings -> Personal -> Sounds and Notifications -> Notifications -> Select text messaging in drop down list and change tune.
U see ... I wanna use my own tones. But i don't know where to copy them in order to appear in sound and notifications.
nobody to help?
you have to put the file in mydevice/windows folder in WAV format. and in notification apear the tone
Newbie
Hi Guys,
I'm new at this. I bought a QTEK S200 and as far as i read this foruns is the same as HTC Prophet.
Basically my problem is that i've got a 4GB SDHC but when i go to the storage she doesn't detect it. Is there any capacity limitation?
The reader is working because when is on stand-by and i put the SD it turns on the light, i think this means she's detecting something.
Thanks in advance for any info about it.
As far as i know the Prophet doesn't have the drivers for a SDHC. Only a regular SD card will work.
hi guys!
is there no way to use a .mp3 or .mid file as SMS notification? [i mean anything except .wav]
Some roms do, some dont. Youll have to look into it. Its not too difficult to convert an mp3 to wav though.
Windows - http://www.dirfile.com/wav_to_mp3_encoder.htm
Mac - use Toast or VLC player
cymru thanks man! I have another dumb question to ask!
It's that I've already unistalled a game but it is still in my Programs list. How can I remove it?! It bothers me so much!!!
nobody?!!!!
u go to windows folder, then start_menu folder, then programs (i guess) or games folder and there u delete the link.
wow i am so proud of myslef.... i answered someone elses question
u r amazing gdevil thanks! I searched all registry last night but i couldn't find anything!

Changing the sound when message comes ?

Hi,
How can i replace the sound when message comes with an mp3 ? It only accepts midi i think.
Thanks
Put the tone in /windows/rings folder or root of storage card.
Buy an iPhone. Thats the only way for people like you.
If u r usin WM then copy .wav file in the windows folder and then change the notification sound from notifications.

The guy asked a question, don't be a such ****.
Message sounds can also be selected if the .WAV is stored in /Storage Card/My Documents too. This folder works for incoming call alerts and other alerts too (except Alarm tones, they have to be n /Windows for some reason!).
With my tones in my card's My Documents, and my .tsk homescreens in my card's root directory, no need to copy files after a ROM flash!

So let me guess - when you got your first HTC device you were a genius from the outset????? I think not Einstein, cut the person some slack and help - if you can that is!!! Otherwise, hold your tongue / fingers otherwise you may learn that there are others within these forums that can be equally smarmy!!!
To answer the question - you can look at asim.khans response, it is the same way that I managed to do this very thing.
Good luck.
thanks guys,
I'm sorry I couldnt reply instantly. I didnt know a wav file can be selected for a message ringtone. I wanted to select an mp3 file to be a message ringtone, I was just wondering maybe an application might change the settings and make it possible.
For the IPhone isseu, I dont think it's good for me because I love my HTC and I dont prefer iPhone, I used an iPhone for a couple days (I'm kinda nerd) and I prefer installing and uninstalling applications, trying new things, writing some little applications for my phone. It's the fun part, not playing with your fingers
Thanks for the replies

Word! Couldn't agree more.

[REQ] Is there anything like this?

Just wondering about some different software. I've tried searching for these with no luck. There's 3 different programs I was wondering about
1 - a music download program for WM (ie. limewire, frostwire)
2 - An iPhone like program where you hold the phone up to the speaker and it will tell ya the name of the song playing
3 - An english to spanish translator
If there's anything out there like this please let me know
Thanks

[SOLVED] .Mp3 as alarm sound

hello wonderful people of the xda community!
im desperately trying to set a mp3 track as my alarm ringtone without any luck sadly. Can someone please help me? Thank you in advance!
Solved by converting the mp3 to a wav file and placing it to the windows folder.
G-Alarm is the best (UI). Now is not free. So you will need to look for old free version
BUMP
Really need to know this. I have been searching, but it seems like there are differences between the WinMo 6.5 builds, and I have tried different things, but none worked for me. pls help ppl!

You can use mp3 files for the alarm, but there's a size limit, and I can't remember what it is. I compressed a song down (I think it was about 2MB when I finished) and it then worked, but wouldn't before that.
Just copy it to the Windows folder and it should show up in the list.
Actually, I take it back. I had to convert it to a WAV file before I could use it as an alarm. There definitely was a size restriction too.
If you don't have anything, googling will turn up plenty of freeware apps for converting audio files from type to type.
thank you very much sir. if that works I will be very very happy. there is no problem in converting the mp3s to wav files.
If you use G-Alarm, there is an issue on HD2.
It could be the g-sensor - if you deactivate all settings about the g-sensor, then G-Alarm is running without freezes.
