I am soon to buy TomTom for my pocket PC. I was wondering if you knew if the Tom Tom CD is the best software format for my TyTN II. I was also wondering which TomTom software is the latest and most suitable software for my HTC TyTNII.
Here are the links from Amazon.co.uk:

I believe the latest Official release for PPC is Tomtom version 6.03.8320 although there was a version 6.032.8351 which was distributed with HTC P3600i phones. Make sure that you get as a minimum version 6.030.8320 as it is faster...more stable and recognises the built-in GPS. Of the earlier versions only version 6.00 and 6.01 were official releases...6.1 and 6.2 were not "Official" release.
I bought TomTom6 a week ago from www.gpscanada.com and my version is 6.01, paid 145.00 + 10.00 CAD for shipping. I have a tilt and GPS works perfect

Cool. Now on the query is where I can find the 6.03.8320 or the later 6.032.8351. I've tried googling for it but to little avail.
I've browsed the Tom Tom website in the PDA/pocket pc section and still can't find it.

Thanks. I prefer to purchase the latest though. I also need the maps for the UK. By the way, I take it you bought the DVD version?
Hi all. Update:
I've just got off the phone with a TomTom adviser from TomTom company (www.tomtom.com). They have told me the following.
I was told by by the advisor that I have to create account with TomTom. I then have to select navigator 6 model on the website and select the map types I want to purchase.
They told me that the latest updated maps for the UK cost £29.95 and maps for western europe cost £39.95.
I signed up with them and gave them email. Here is what they sent me by email:
Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.

I was also told that I can update my maps daily with a function called 'mapshare'. This tool allows users to download the latest maps from other users.
I was also told that the maximum memory card size I can use to put my maps on is 2 GB. I was told if I was to purchase an 8GB memory card, that I won't be able to put the maps on there, and that I would have to switch memory cards to access the maps if I was using an 8GB memory card

Just so you are aware..."mapshare" only works with the Tomtom 7 series maps (and only certain ones) and 7 series software which is for Tomtom devices such as One XL, 910 etc.
It will not work for PPC devices.
Also....version 6.01 will certainly work well on the Kaiser, but 6.03 and 6.032 are later versions...more stable...faster etc. the only downside is that there is a known bug which starts TT in muted mode (no sound) if you have a data session going when you start the TT application. Version 6.01 does not do this.
You should find that when you buy 6.01 you will be able to download software updates from the TT home log in.
Yes I bought the DVD. I do not think that only 2 GB cards can be used as I have installed mine on a 6 GB card and working fine. Also, I just received an email from TomTom stating that version 6 is the latest and there are no upgrades to it

Thanks for that info about Mapshare. It seems the info you’re given by TomTom varies according to the advisor you speak to.

Thanks. Having two memory cards, one for TomTom and an 8GB memory card for other stuff does seem inconvenient.
I do find it odd that some with the TyTN II are claiming to have bought the Minisd version of TomTom even though Minisd cards cannot fit in the TyTNII....

That should be correct. I used TomTom Navigator 5 on my old HP iPAQ hw6515, and when I wanted to upgrade my maps last year I was told that new maps were not available, but I could upgrade to TomTom Navigator 6 for $50. I took the upgrade deal, and I am currently running TomTom Navigator 6.010 on my HTC Tilt with a 4gb storage card. I can put the entire North American map on it and I can go anywhere in the US or Canada without switching maps.
Even if you could find TomTom 5 on Ebay, or elsewhere TomTom has stopped supporting it and there will not be any new maps available.

I previously had my tomtom and maps installed on a 2gb card for my PPC, but i got USA and Canada maps also as i travel there sometimes and tomtom can be quite handy. So as i have UK, france, spain, italy, portugal, germany maps (which i use alot) the USA and Canada wouldnt fit. Got an 8GB card, used the included card reaser to copy all my stuff and it works as well as before. So you can use an 8GB card on PPC for tomtom app and maps

Anyone managed to get tomtom installed and running, if so how did you do it, i want to install it on my storage card only
Thanks

I did nothing special, just follow the installer instructions. Which problem do you have?
It wont install on the sd card doesnt even ask then bombs out, did you install from an sd card or a cd rom and then it doesnt find the maps
I installed from cdrom and manually moved the map folders to miniSD card.
Hi,
Go to the TomTom site and download the latest update, then you can install it on the Storage Card....
You have to have legal version....
Thanks guys its all sorted, needed currentmap.dat in my docs works fine now
thanks for the pointers

TomTom Navigator 5.21, that's what I'm using.
TomTom 6 work for me with North America or USA/Canada maps. I think I am currently on TT 6.201 and map Usa and Canada v 675.1409. Support told me that TT 6 would not work on Windows Mobile 6, but its works for me so far....
i got tomtom 6.03 with aussie maps 675,
works brilliantly except for the POI freezing glitch.
the 675 maps has speeds certain roads which is a nice feature providing they dont change the speed limit on the roads it has mapped LOL
Slow startup
I installed Tomtom 5.21 to main memory, map to Storage card.
But it takes a very long time for the app to start, over 1 minute.
I am running official Dopod WM6.
Anybody else duffer from slow startup and any ideas as to what can be done to improve it?
Hello everybody,
first of all, this is not a post about warez, since I am talking about new western europe map v. 7.25 I have just bought from tomtom.com.
Well, before I had installed on my Cruise tomtom navigator 7 that I got from this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401679), and everything seemed to work fine: I could download the free test map, and also free voices. Then I wanted to buy and install the new western europe (v. 7.25) map, that is available from a few days on tomtom.com. To this purpose I created an account, registerd my device as a TomTom navigator 7 one, and then went to map shop and bought the map. Then I downloaded and installed tomtom home 2.3, and I tried to install the map on my device using it, I can see the map I bought but I am getting an error message that says that the map is not compatible with my device.
Can anybody help me?
Sorry for error!
Remember no warez here, edit your post.

As far as I know there might be still a problem with activating the card.

I cannot just download the map, the only way tomtom allows you to download it is using tomtom home, which says that my device is not compatible, so I have nothing to copy anywhere..
I don't know but is there a update or new version to make Tomtom, Tomtom 7.25?
Hey mate, sorry to hear that you have problems. I would like to know if there is a way to get this working myself before I buy a ver7 map myself.
I know there has been someone else getting this to work in this forum. Maybe you an set the device to something else for the SD Card in TomTom Home. If it doesn't work while the card is in the phone maybe try it in a card reader. Think that should work. Let me know if you have success
Cheers

Finland, Sweden and Denmark v7.20 without problems. The maps need to be purchased and installed via TomTom Home 2 (Set your device av TomTom 720).

These maps are not anymore available for TomTom 720, at least in Italian site now if you register as 720 you can only buy 8.10 maps that are not compatible with tomtom7, at least to my knowledge. If you register as a tomtom 7 device, as for example a vodafone touch diamond, you can buy 7.25 maps, as I have done, but then you get the "impossible to install on this device" error if you try to download them.
may be it is not for One
Not completely sure but maps for One devices are not always compatile with normal PPC tomtom version.
I had this kind of problem with Tomtom 6 - bought maps for tomtom 6 One and those were incompatible.
After talking to Tomtom support they changed my subscription.
Unfortunately I never used tomtomv7 but instead got iGo8.
Hi all -
Is there ANY legitimate (non-warez) software for the Diamond that has US maps?
Tomtom - Version 6 doesn't list Diamond as a supported device, not sure it does VGA resolution, Version 7 there's no legitimate source for US maps.
iGo - no US maps
CoPilot - no US maps
Route 66 - seems to require an SD card
Garmin Mobile - requires SD card
Ostia - requires SD card
I just want to legitimately use my Diamond for navigation, but having a hard time finding any options. I've searched through the forums, but had no luck.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply. I had a couple questions if you dont mind:
I have Tomtom 6 on my old P3600. I'm guessing you purchased a Version 6 DVD and used that to load up your Diamond.
- Does TomTom 6 support the Diamond's VGA resolution?
- When you loaded it on your device, did the TomTom Home software recognize your device? If not, did you have to select a device from a list and which device did you select?
- I'm pretty sure TomTom stopped supporting the Ver. 6 maps. It's a bummer but I can live with it. Can you confirm your experiece / have you been able to update your maps?
Thanks!!!!

Hi ND -
Is OnCourse a part of iGo? The reason I ask is because the OnCourse site lists US maps, but the software is apparently only capable of 320 x 240 (QVGA) resolution, while I think iGo 8 is capable of full 640 x 480 (VGA). If I could use the iGo 8 with the OnCourse US maps, that would be a good solution.
Were there any issues with just copying the SD data to your device? Others such as Garmin have required all sorts of finagling to get them to work such as keygens and such, and I really want to avoid any of that.
Thanks!
Mike

Just to add another older version, I run TomTom 5 on my Diamond in the USA with no problems at all.

Hi Nomer -
I like the Garmin software, especially since it has nautical maps available. However, I read elsewhere that the SD card version can't be used with our phones because there is an internal code that prevents their software from being used without the SD. Since I don't want any keygen or other cracks, I don't think this is an option. Anything I do I want to have be fuloly supported by the company and their service department.

Yeah, OnCourse is the name for iGo in the United States. You can use the maps from one for the other since it is the same. For copying the contents, the only problem I ran into was that it couldn't find the directory where the maps are located. To overcome that, you'll need to do a search of the Diamond thread, but the most important thing is to change a certain config file so that it reads from the Internal Storage instead of SD.
Good luck!

My version of TT6 was on an SD card. I just changed the communication mode on the TD from Activsync to USB and connected it to the PC. Then put SD card in card reader and copied all files over. When I unplugged the USB lead TT automatically started to instal (that got me panicing a bit!). Went through normal installation, got correct code from TTcodes and it installed and automically found the internal receiver.
No new version 6 maps coming out, but plenty of old ones still for sale from TT - I bought one for Southern Africa a few weeks ago and could not find any errors in it when I used it when driving around Western Cape province on holiday.
TT6 works fine with the VGA screen - but everything is smaller - I find I now use 3D view rather than 2D I used to as that comes up bigger (as it does on all screens)
Another poster here today says when he installed TT Home 2.5 and plugged in his TD it automatically offered him a free copy of TT7.9 along with demo map. Still have to buy version 7 maps but they are more up to date than version 6 - although there have been lots of reports of them still not showing changes in roads.

Landshark - at the moment TT are not listing any maps for US or Canada for TTN7 - presumably because no legal version of that is available there. Strangely they do list maps for Mexico and Brazil!
In reality the price quoted for those (presumably Version 6) maps seems expensive - you can download US & Canada maps (version 6.75) direct from TT website for $70.
TomTom has been posted on the forums for years now. This is the latest version (specifically the VGA/WVGA version) that works with the Touch Pro 2. I have custom packaged it so that it will not mess up an existing Bluetooth stack, as well as removing the Today plugin (which I personally think is garbage).
If this package somehow violated the TOS of this site (I can't imagine how, a quick search produces multiple links on these forums), then I apologize. TomTom doesn't seem to make available/support the software for Windows Mobile PDAs on their Website (iPhone is there though, how odd). Their policy has always seemed to be the sale of maps, so I'm releasing these packages with that in mind.
Note: DO NOT ask me for maps. Do not ask any question about where to get them. Purchase v8 maps from TomTom. If you use software, support the developer (so they can keep their job and make better/new software) by actually PAYING for it. I know, its a novel concept.

great thanks been looking for a version that works on tp2 for ages now does this work with tomtom home?
just curious went to the tomtom site to purchase the maps for this app. options it gives me is for maps for touch pro but not touch pro 2 does it matter would it have mattered if i p icked anyone arnt the maps all the same?
No, the phone you have doesn't matter. You just have to make sure the maps you are using will work with the version of Navigator you are using.
so im guessing based on that version 7.9 the version 8 mapps will work. However on the site i go to maps for HTC touch pro and under US it only gives me brazil or mexico I cant seem to purchase v8 maps for US. It couldnt be that difficult could it? Also i installed the app from the post but at the end it tellsme the voice options are not avail- was that stripped from this version? So if i can get my hands on the maps will the voice options all return? by voice I mean the person giiving the directions you can pick from anyone and all say no avail to me
Thanks for posting that. I'm another who's been looking for a while to get this to work on my TP2. Tomtom say it won't work & is not compatible with the TP2 but I've just downloaded the one free area map they allow and it works well. All my customers over the next few days are within this map area so I'll be testing it heavily. If it passes that test, I'll pay for the European map from TomTom.
Thanks again.
curious do you need a data plan to use the gps function tomtom? I mean if i bought a tomtom i dont need a data plan so it seems it wouldnt need one on the phone either right since the gps is built in and you just need to capture the satellite signal?
thanks a lot!

For the moment you can receive GPS signals for free
The rapidshare link has exceeded the limit.
OK, I have bought TT7 on microSD - prefviously used on my Kaiser.
I have been trying to install on the TP2, but until now it always gave the 'This product is not compatible with your device' message.
I have copied the contents of the TT7 disc onto my 16gb MicroSD, then installed this cab over the top successfully.
I can now get into the application, but it will not accept the activation code - either that code that came with the TT7 disk, or the code from the maps I previously bought for TT6 (which I migrated to TT7 on the kaiser).
Any ideas? Has anyone successfully used their TP2 with TomTom Home to activate maps etc.?
When I try to link to TomTom Home it says I have an 'invalid version' - so can't transfer my subscriptions. This makes this pretty pointless - as I can't activate a map and can't use TomTom 7 at all.
Has anyone managed to use this successfully?
CoPilot is the way to go for GPS Navigation. I just purchased mine for under $40. I've been using TomTom for a couple years but for those of you interested in going the legit route. Copilot Live 8 should suffice.
thanks
worked like a charm. good job
can someone repost the link or upload the file to 4shared or something?

Hey is the VGA version the same as they WVGA version?
TT7
OK, to make looong story, short........that was about 2-3 years ago i owned a Kaiser and then i had a Navigator 6. Therefore i had an account with TT. I tried iPhone, G1, MyTouch, then few days ago i got Rhodium, and now I needed my TT back. I found that link to d/l TT7, installed it, downloaded a free map, worked well. Then i downloaded a TomTomHome from TT website, after installation, it prompted me to get a newer version, so i did. Unfortunately, that new ver kept showing me that my ver of installed software is not a good version, and i couldn't do anything. I wasn't even able to link my Rhodium to my old account . So i have unistalled that new ver of TT Home, got the older version again from their website, when it prompted me again to get newer one, i just pressed "no". Then i bought new maps, downloaded it, created a new "yahoo" email address, created new account with TT, linked me new phone to the site, installed new maps, tested, works perfectly! It seems like big effort, but it was worthed to get new TT7 for only $69, wasn't it?
That way might not work for everyone, i just wanted to share with you guys, how i did it. The only pain in the ......., was that i had to wait close to 1 hour to get those maps d/l, and another 30 or so minutes to get it installed. But, what the hack................

Interesting - which version of TomTom Home are you using? Is it version 2? (I don't think version 1 even recognises TT7). You don't know anywhere I can download a previous version do you? Thanks - you've given me some hope!
It seems that some of you run TTN7 on your HTC TD2s. However, I checked with TomTom support today about installing to my 8GB microSD and they said it is only compatible with 4GB SD cards.
I asked them:
"Is there any version of TomTom I can install on an 8GB microSD card on my WM6 phone so that I do not need to swap cards?"
They replied:
"Sorry no, and another thing is your HTC Touch Diamond 2 is not compatible with nav 7, so it is hard for us to help with any installation issues that might occur."
My experience of TomTom support many years ago (TTN4 on a Palm) was that they were uninformed and not very helpful. So have they misinformed me? If so, how do I go about getting TTN7 onto my phone? I find TomTom more user-friendly than the CoPilot I have.
Hello,
I'm using TT7 without any problems. It's saved in a 4 gb msd card.

Same here
I'm using TT7 without any problems and i have it installed on a 8gb Card..
When Tomtom say their software is 'not compatible' with a device, what they actually mean is that the device is not officially supported by them.
Whether the software actually works on the device is a different question. Supported or not, Tomtom works just fine on the TD2 - well, it does once you install the clipped audio fix...
Thanks guys. So I can purchase TTN7 for Windows smartphone on microSD and simply copy onto my 8GB microSD and install from there?
I suggest you to buy the map(s) only. TomTom7 app is available here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482075 ...free,absolutely legal. As far as I can remember not all TT7 versions work on Topaz, but this one does..I've been using it since the beginning.Anyway before you waste your money take some time reading about TD2 and TT7,there are many interesting threads. Ciao!

Thanks. The threads are interesting. However, Western Europe maps cost £70 but the whole TTN7 package with these maps costs just £20 more at £90 - and I get a free microSD card. Then there is the legendary (or mythical?) TomTom support.
tomtom 7.916 (9189)
With the latest version you don't need audiofix anymore and it works without any problem on my 8GB microSD card.

Thanks! Next, I need maps. Which maps do I choose from the TomTom site? In the 'select your model' list, there is 'Mobile Phone' but no HTC TD2. I read somewhere here that the 910 maps work.
sorry i can't help you with that, i can only report that v8.25 do work (1GB Western Europe)

I tried TomTom Home to determine what maps I needed to download, but this did not work because the TTN7 that I installed is invalid (according to TomTom). So now I have an invalid installation that works with the one free city map that I could download. Looks like I will have to remove it and start afresh with an official TomTom installation.

I use TT navigator 7 on my Diamond 2 and a 8GB SDHC card !! Works perfectly !!
I am still having trouble here! Having installed 7.916.9189.1 (which works fine), installed a free map, voices and POIs from TomTom, I bought the Western Europe maps from TomTom. They show up on my account, but I cannot download them because it says "This item does not work on your device. Therefore, it cannot be installed." It further says, "You have an invalid version of the TomTom application installed on your TomTom device."
What do I do now?
I have TT7 7.916.9189 and works perfectly. The only problem is the icons look very little. The map I have instaled is Iberia 835.2421.
Best Regards

My TT7 7.916.9189 also works perfectly, but I cannot download the maps that I paid for!
I have TT7 working and use TTHome to download the maps and also keep MapShare up to date.
I originally had the same problems but found this post and followed it carefully to now have a fully recognised install of TT7 and v.830.2306 Maps of Western and Central Europe 2Gb.

You basically stop TTHome from discovering your device is unsupported and it then happily works as it should.
All credit to adejager1 for discovering and posting originally.
Hope it helps.

Thanks John. I have edited the ttNavItem.js file ready to use with my home internet connection. While online at work on my laptop using my phone, I cannot connect both ActiveSync and the internet at the same time.
