Warning For Att Customers - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

I have the x7500 and before that the hw6515 both of the phones were using the medianet plan ($20) i could go on the internet check pop3 email and use my slingbox, but no more i can only go on the internet. i talked with an att rep and he said that at&t is doing this deliberately if you care to listen i have the whole thing recorded. ...... please share this with anyone who has at&t or who is thinking about switching to at&t

It was only a matter of time before they cracked down on this. Not surprising that you now have this "problem". I'm surprized they didn't force you to get the unlimited plan, be happy they are letting you stay on the medianet plan.

I don't need tobe happy about anything i am going to switch to tmobile soon.

Help! Iphone sims card won't work anymore.
My Iphone sims card stopped working in my Advantage this morning, won't find the network. I've been using this sims card for over threee months now.
I called ATT but CS is clueless. They claim the Iphone sims card does not support third party devices. I said I have been using it this way for several months. I even went into a local ATT store and talked with the manager, he
could not help, again, clueless. What do I ask for, how can I resolve this?
Thanks!
Charles
PS yes, the sims card works in the Iphone just fine.

Can you get the slingplayer to work by switching the port from 5001 to something else?

Know it's been asked a million times but, please I need help...

I'm sorry that I've to ask this but I need help for Cingular's 3G connection. I'm using the exact settings for the MEdia Net for 8525, I'm using a 3G sim card, I've MEdia Net unlimited on Pick Your Plan. Actually I live near, and not in, Chicago. About a month back when I went there I could get 3G speeds even on a 64k sim, two days back when I went there again I kept getting Edge speeds. I even tried a Cingular store for help but seeing a TyTn they just said no to a request for help, though it is beyond me that they being a service provider are so worried about the devices. Shouldn't they be responsible for the service that they provide no matter what device I use with it, not like I walked in there and asked them to fix the TyTn's screen for me. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.
might want to call up cingulars customer service and ask to speak to the data guys. just tell them it's an 8525, now i'm just assuming they are pretty similar. tell them what's happening and see if they can help out.

im on a 24.99 unlimited internet and text plan..
that is disappointing to hear. that is like paying for a ferrari engine and mounting it onto a semi truck 3g service plan for 2g speeds. i was hoping it would work with tzones.
Did they make you get that plan or could you have opted for the the web2go (i believe it is called that) the $19.99 plan?

Tmobile us htc hd2 unlocked for use on at&t

I bought the US version of HD2 today and unlocked it.
What do i have to do to use all the features and functions on AT&T's network? I would like my email, internet, weather, stocks to work. Any tips? I am able to make only phone calls right now and would like to start using all the other features. Thanks in advance for all your help.. also, i have PDA plan already..
I also unlocked the HD2 and am using on AT&T and had the same problems. I could make calls and had internet access for the first day, but had to do a hard reset and when it came back up I could only make calls. There is a fix though. Go to:
Settings>Wireless Controls>Data Connection>Add a new modem connection
Under "Enter a name for the connection" type: Media Net
Select a modem: Select Cellular Line (GPRS), then hit next
Access Point Name: wap.cingular, then hit next
Leave blank user name, password, and domain, then click finish.
You won't get 3G access this way (only Edge), but you should now be able to access AT&T's Media Net data plan and browse without problems. This worked for me anyway.
If anyone knows how to get 3G speed, please share!
AT&T forcing 30$ smartphone data plan
Hi,
I also unlocked my t mobile HD2 and put my at&t SIM card in it. AT&T recognizes my device as blackberry 7290 and automatically added 30$ smartphone data plan on it. Also, they did not help me set up the edge network which i finally did by myself. Anyways, is there a way to put only 15$ data plan on it?
Thanks,
Vikrant

Buy the Telstra one, that's the only way you'll get 3G sorry to say. Wish US carriers all use the same frequencies.
Guys, how you unlocked the phone?
I got a unlocked T-Mobile HD2 and try to use HSPL2 to flash this moble, but the message tell me "wrong model ID".
I don't know what to do.

Ok, all i had to do was call Tmobile to get the unlock code for my phone. i downloaded the MediaNet cab file, installed it and everything is working great except the Visual Voicemail which i understand because it is strictly developed for Tmobile.

You do realize that:
A. There's a separate forum for the T-Mobile HD2?
B. You could've bought an HD2 (Telstra version -- T9193) that's compatible with AT&T 3G?
I am also interested to learn of any way to avoid paying the $30 data plan instead of the $10 one. Anyone? Anyone? I looked at the option of changing the IMEI but will not go there after learning it is illegal. I'm ok with edge on at&t but not if I'm paying $30 a month.

Register a feature-phone with AT&T and get them to switch the data back to $15.
Also, any Blackberry IMEI they're registering is wrong as nobody sells/uses a BB 7290 anymore.

NuShrike or anybody, Do you have specific experience with switching down to the $15 data plan? Whether the 7290's are in use anymore or not I'm thinking that AT&T is going to switch me right back to the $30 data plan when I make a call from my HD2(BB 7290 to them).

I'm technically still using my Sony-Ericsson on my grandfathered data plan, and have never been upgraded to the $30. I also stay under ~100MB a month so ymmv.
I've read all over HowardForums this is the way to get back in to $15. Just make sure you'd NEVER registered your HD2 IMEI with your account on AT&T by telling some rep, or such. Otherwise, you're SOL because you've publicly admitted to them that it's a "smartphone". Don't do any communication with at&t using your HD2. Get a pay-go and swap in your current sim if you need to.
So far so good. I've made it almost 24 hours with a $10(when added to family unlimited messaging) data plan. Anyone know if I should be in the clear or do they only sweep weekly/monthly?
I have been wanting to try and see if I can buy a pay as you go plan and phone then just swap out the sim in my T9193 and all be fine without them catching on to what phone im using and terminating my data? Anyone ever done this before? The first time I tried pay as you go I told them what phone I was using and shortly after the data was terminated because I was using the nexus one so I was stuck with unlimited minutes and no data.
A friend of mine received his unlocking code today, and on his AT&T customer online page... it showed that he had that ancient BlackBerry model as well.
However, they didn't automatically switch his data plan. I told him to basically call, but NOT from the device, and to demand the unlimited data plan, but not for the iPhone (which is what he had previously) so we'll see whether or NOT they ask too many questions about the device he's currently using.

Flash HSPL2 and new ROM wouldn't help to unlock the sim. That's what I did. I ends up fax the request to Tmobile where I got my phone at full price. They send me the code few hours ago.

I am using it with ATT, its unlocked from tmobile, I got the att cab, just install this, and it puts the media net settings on the phone
The only problem is sometimes in my email, or google maps, it will say something about a connection problem? Anyone else have those issues?

Is this possible? (HD2 with Android using Tmobile prepaid)

Hi,
I usually just read this forum for fun, but now I want to get serious with modding my phone and tweaking it to my specifications.
I'm currently using a Blackberry with Tmobile's prepaid service. However, I'm tired of my small 2.5" screen. Hence the reason I'm looking at the HD2. I want to start using Android because of its flexibility with customization.
Here's my question: Can I buy a HTC HD2 off of eBay, flash it to Android, and then stick in my Tmobile prepaid SIM?
If I can do that, will I have a problem with the activation of the device? I wanted to buy a stock Android phone but I've read they require a SIM with a working data plan or borrow a SIM from somebody using an Android phone. (I don't have access to either).
Final question: Will MMS work on this device if I don't have a data plan?
Thanks!
You can use a prepaid tmobile with any android phone as long as its unlocked or locked to tmobile. If you already have an active sim, just stick it in and it'll work fine. You only need a data plan if you get a phone with a service plan from tmobile store... if you bought phone on your own, you dont need a data plan. I use my prepaid tmobile in my hd2, and just pay the $1.50 for the web daypass when I need data for the day. Not sure about mms without data... never use mms.
Yes. I have been doing this since I bought my phone. Just popped in my old prepaid sim and you're done. You don't have to activate the phone as long as your sim is active (phones with blocked imei excluded of course).
Can't answer the question on mms since I've never sent one. But I assume it's the same 25c they charge as per my prepaid agreement.
Thanks for your help. The only thing holding me back is I would greatly appreciate it if someone can confirm that MMS does not need a data plan. Once someone does, I'm getting it off eBay and then flashing Android!
Can anyone confirm it?
Thanks!
As of right now, I'm pretty sure mms requires a data plan.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
you have to call tmobile to confirm. i know tmobile themselves do not require a data plan for mms to work. my son has a samsung lg that sends and recieves mms with tmobile and no data plan, however my daughter has a mytouch 3g and is unable to send and recieve mms. i contacted tmobile and they claim it is the specs of the phone that is the problem. give them a call they are very helpful, hell that is how i found out cotulla got nand finalized, while on the phone trying to fix daughters phone, the customer service rep was telling me about cotullas nand progress and even referenced xda. it was beautiful. good luck
Thanks for the help! I'll probably call Tmobile and do a little more research.
I did a quick Google search and realized that my Blackberry shouldn't be able to send and receive MMS's as well. I'm not sure why I can.
Do you think I should take a chance, buy one off eBay and see if it works?
sending mms on android REQUIRES data plan...i was able to receive mms but can't send without data plan. You Can always switch to window mobile to use mms. Android on hd2 comes rooted so no need for activation. You Can skip it or activate via wifi.
I think my brochure I had about prepaid t-mobile said mms was same price as sms if I remember right. With prepaid t-mobile we have access to t-zones without having to buy web daypass.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I know for sure that sending/receiving mms is listed on the prepaid package as 25c so it does not require a data plan (for prepaid). It probably goes through t-zones like the previous poster said.
Quote from the t-mobile website
$100 /Refill 1000 Minutes of Talk Messaging (Text): 5¢ to receive, 10¢ to send
Picture, Video: 25¢ to receive and send

I'll try out sending a mms tonight with my prepaid t-mobile and see if it works without data.
UPDATE: I just tested sending a picture with mms with my hd2 using prepaid t-mobile without being attached to WiFi or buying a web daypass, and it was successful. The 3g symbol popped up, so it did use data through tzones, but it didn't charge anymore than the 25 cents it costs to send mms.
I just started using prepaid tmobile about a month ago because I couldn't afford paying $80/month for the cheapest smartphone plan, and so far I'm very happy. I can pay $1.50 for the days I need data, which isn't often, as I'm usually around WiFi... and since I put $100 on my account to begin with, I only pay 10cents/min and my account will be good a year as long as I have credit. I only spent about $15 this first month of service! It works great for anyone on a budget like me.

[Q] Question about Data plan and Rooting

I have a T-mobile Unlimited Web+ 400 free messages and the issues is this plan is paid for by my company and I cannot change the plan, currently data works on my HD2 with Android.. I want to know if the data will work on a rooted myTouch 4g without changing to Android data plan? Can anyone explain this to me??
If I understand things correctly -- and I may not -- a GSM carrier's "plan" is tied to the SIM card.
With that assumption, you can move the SIM card from the HD2 to the MT4G without T-Mobile's involvement. Whatever agreements you have with T-Mobile will remain in force, assuming the phone is capabile of providing those services. You could also go the other way, and move the SIM to a lower end "feature phone" and be limited to text only, as such a phone doesn't have Data capability. But you or your company would be paying on the same plan.
If you are switching SIMs for any reason -- for instance, keeping the HD2 as a personal phone, then T-Mobile would have to provision the new SIM. Using this scenario, they might recommend moving the HD2's SIM into the MT4G for use as your business phone, and putting the MT4G's SIM into the HD2 and provisioning it with a personal plan.
Rooting and using a custom ROM have no bearing on your carrier plan. Unless you need to return the phone for some reason, in which case restoring stock software is advised.
Thank you

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.. My main issue is, T-mobile has different data plans for different category of phones, I currently use an HD2 like I told and the data works.. But when I tried using the same SIM in Android it did not work.. I was wondering how T-mobile will know what type of phone I am using...
I don't know how data works on HD2 (on Android).. I totally agree with your explanation, as I am not going to buy a myTouch 4G on contract from T-mobile, I am going to buy it off Craigslist so there will be no T-mobile involvement.. I called up T-mobile to check if I can change my data plan but they said I can't as only my Company can do that.. I cannot ask my company to change the data plan as that is out of the question..
I know its really a strange situation I am in, I am getting a my phone bill paid by my company and I have a data plan so I wanted to know if I can really make good use of it..
Thanks once again...
Hmmm. If the SIM from the Windows phone does not work for you in the Android phone, then there must be more to provisioning of "Data" than the SIM alone -- but moving the SIM should work fine for voice, sms, and mms (which don't use "data" services).
As I suggested, I might have been wrong.
the difference in data plans is nothing more than a marketing scheme. all you have to do is put the sim card from the HD2 into the mt4g and enjoy it, there's nothing else to it. That's the nice thing about using sim cards, no need to call the carrier to activate different phones, just pop your working sim into any phone(as long as it's unlocked or from the same carrier).

But anush.isaac has already reported that the SIM did not work in the Android phone. Hmmm.... he also said he is =going= to purchase. So I do not know what Android phone he tested the SIM in. If it was another carrier's locked phone, then that would be the reason for a failure.

actually, I can report, having come from a blackberry with a blackberry data plan, that it DID take a call to t-mobile to get switched to an android data plan before my internet would fully work on my new (then) g2. Currently loving the mt4g, though. and t-mobile never charged me any extra for the switch, it was just a matter of making things right in their system to get it working.

Hi all,
Thank you very much for the much needed insight... I first apologize for confusing many... Let me tell you the updates..
* I have a data plan called T-mobile Smartphone Unlimited+ 400 free msgs
* I called a T-mobile rep and asked him if I can go to the Android plan, but as I explained earlier I don't have the permissions/authority to change plans as its under my company name and he said he will need to talk to my company's internal phone services (which I don't want to happen..)
* The T-mobile rep also told my plan will work only on Windows based Smart phones that T-mobile offers..
* Currently my data(Internet/Browsing) works with my HD2 running on Android (maybe because it still sees it as a Windows device).
* The phone I tested my SIM was the Vibrant, and the Vibrant's data did not work with my SIM.
My question now, I just Observed, mt APN says TelKila, and I do not know if this has something to do with accessing the network, with my HD2 both APNs TelKila and epc.tmobile.com work.. Let me know your thoughts on this one...

There shouldn't be a reason why it wouldn't work. Was that vibrant you tried also a t-mobile phone or was it from a different carrier? Why not go to a t-mobile store and try your sim card on one of their demo mt4g's? That's about the only way to know for sure. I used the same sim card I had on my G1 for two years on my mt4g as soon as I took it out of the box and it worked fine.

Yes the Vibrant is for T-mobile only.. When I called T-mobile they said that my current data plan only works for Windows based devices and if i want to use an Android Device I will have to change my data plan to an Android data plan that they have. Somehow T-mobile are able to find out what device I am using and they are able to filter my data service. Since I cannot change my current data plan I am stuck to using a Windows device!! BUMMER!!
If there is any workaround I will be more than happy to do it, so I can make data working on my Android phone...
I'm a T-Mobile employee (RSA), and I can confirm that the type of data plan (known as the SOC) matters. They're actually working to change that (the new "4G" SOCs work for everything except blackberry). What this also means is that if you were on a legacy/promo SOC and you change platforms, you may lose that promo/legacy rate (a good chat with customer service might help, but all the guys in the store can do is call customer service for you). I don't really know any more details as to how it works on the back end, but that's the end result.
