Hello.
I have recently bought for second time a Qtek 9100 and i have noticed that it has a really poor reception, regarding wifi signal.
More specifically, if i move to next room( few meters away) i loose half strength of signal, and if i move another room (less than 10 meters from my pc) i barely have signal (around 20%)!!!
With a Qtek 9000 i had before, in the same room i had around 90% wifi signal and with my laptop the same!
I have to notice that i selected "best performance" in wifi settings( but the strange thing is whether i have it in best performance or best battery life i can't see any difference).
Is this a hardware failure? If so, i should move quickly to get an exchange device before the replacement period ends.
Thanks in advance for your help!
same problem, tried the wifi g hack, no results. I suggest you try that [wifi g hack] any help from anyone else would be good though
Yes, i have tried that, but no luck.
No change with that!
Is the poor signal normal? Any other 9100/Kjam user to share his feedback?
Please tell your experience as to know if my device is defective, in order to move quickly tomorrow to exchange it.
Thanks!
well i dont know, i get normal signal at home or on anyother open home wifi network, but at school which has wpa-tsk settings, i can only access the wifi when im across the hall. they have another router in the other building, but i can be 5ft away from it and get nothing
Hmmm, i have problems whenever i try to connect to router, usb wifi key, public access point, anything. Just 10 meters away and signal goes close to nothing. So, i am convinced that it is a defective unit.
If anyone else can tell us their experience...
Ok,thank you for your help!
Ur lucky you can connect at all.
I can't even connect to my home wifi set up!
Well I can if I plug the Wizard into my laptop via USB!
Have you guys tried running this CAB? I think it does more than change one registry setting. I have a QTEK 9100 and it worked well for me. No issues with distance or performance (at least not yet). Using a Belkin Pre-N router. Make sure to soft reset after running the CAB on the device. Hope it works for you.
Did nothing for me,
Still can't connect to my home WiFi
yea i have this installed now for about 2 weeks.no additional results
Yes, i have installed it too, no luck with it...
Hmmm, things get complicated.
I tested an 9100 and a Qtek S200 in a shop (demo phones) and i have seen that their wifi is close to my 9100 as far as it concerns the signal.
So, if this is the normal, this sucks!!!
Since 3 days that i have started investigating the case, i have compared my 9100 with a Dell Axim X51v, a Palm Lifedrive and a Qtek 9000, all in the same place.
The results:
Palm lifedrive: 90% signal
Qtek 9000: 80% signal
Dell Axim 51v: 50% signal
Qtek 9100(mine): 25% signal
What the heck!!!
I start to believe that 9100/S200 have a very bad wifi module, regarding it's signal ability!
Any other feedback?
Noone uses his wifi?
Thanks!
I can only tell you that I have the same. the WIFI modukes are not the best you can get.
I can use it but it looses the signal quite often by just moving the phone. :?
Yes, i believe that all new Qtek's-after the tests i've done- have bad wifi modules( except maybe for Qtek 9000, all the others are crap)!
Appologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but ive trawled so many forums i forget where everything is! (noob)
I have my lovely new MDA vario on t-mobile, runs fast, everything works great, however, my wifi signal from my router (asus WL-500G) is really poor even in the same room as the router! forget about the room next door! I have set the device for "maxumim performance" (less battery) and have set my router power settings to maximum, but i still get very bad signal! im sure this is my MDA as my laptop connects to the router no problems from upstairs or garden! Im using the standard wifi software, thought about hitchhiker although user reviews seem to suggest that it "leeks" data and is unstable! Could anyone please suggest what i could do?
Many thanks,
Luke

actually this is quite common problem with this device, some people complained about that already. same thing is with my wireless network - sometimes Wizard is completely 'blind' for WiFi signal, even if router is in the same room, and i need to invoke connection manually from network card manager. with iPAQ rx3715 which i used before Wizard i never had such problems and WiFi worked flawlessly...
well, you can increased the signal performance a bit better if you change the setting on your Wifi to best performance, but it will drain your battery...
Is it worth taking my MDA back and getting a new one? i have already set the network adaper to maximum performance (less battery)! If its a general problem with alot of MDA's will a new handset fix this? or what about upgrading the radio? im using all the standard ROMs etc that came with the handset at the moment, im scared of messing it up/loosing access to my unlimeted browsing (that i pay £9.99 a month for ) Im happy with the menu speed and everything its just the wifi letting me down! If upgrading the Rom/radio is advisiable could someone please tell me what version works with the MDA?
My current versions are as follows: (this was bought brand new last week so im assuming i have the latest t-mobile rom?)
ROM: 2.21.2.6WWE
Radio: 02.19.11
Protocol: 4.1.13.09
Ex Rom: 2.21.2.109
Many thanks for everyones help.
try to tweak Wifi to used a G signal from the default B signal...if your Wifi network can accomodate G signal also....for further information look at here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=38898 and

Cant say I have any trouble at all with the wifi. Can use it in any room in the house with no problems. I would first check out a new unit and if thats the same then maybe it doesnt like your router ?
Hello All,
I am wondering if you can help. I have a Linksys N router at home which is supposed to be 4x the area of coverage from a g. It is in my basement and the signal in my bedrooms is very weak. I purchased a Linksys signal booster and plugged on the first floor to repeat the signal to the bedrooms.
Here is the problem: I use my TYTN on the first floor close to the basement window and the signal is ok but when I move farther on the first floor the signal becomes very weak - not to mention how weak it is upstairs in the bedrooms.
I tried it with my Univeral and it is a killer full bar signal. This leads me to believe it is either my wifi is busted on my TYNT in terms of reception or they have very weak WIFI antenas. Can someone confirm if they have a similar problem?
Thanks,
Gilbert
yes i think there is a problem with the signal
he is very weak!
Both Universal and Blue Angel have better wifi signal than hermes...incredible... I wonder how htc project device...

At least it got better WiFi-signal than the Wizard...
Change the mode to 'best performance' and try again.

I don't know about Universal, but I have a BlueAngel and it doesn't have better wifi signal than Hermes. Hermes a lot better for me, mine is an HTC TyTN (WWE) #628.
FWIW I have both Blue Angel and Wizard devices -- the Wizard's WiFi is far superior to the BA. The BA can barely pick up the signal for my office network, but the Wizard can connect to it from outside.
You should try to adjust the battery vs. performance slider in wifi settings
and report if the signal is stronger then.
I haventh had the opportunity to test the wlan yet myself.
Guys, i have use ALL HTC devices so far and i can surely say that their wifi chipsets in terms of signal strength is totally crap( i have made lots of tests comparing to other PDA brands).
I haven't used an HTC Hermes so far but i am afraid( judging from your saying) that the problem still persists.
I've done a quick test: opened wififofum on BlueAngel and Hermes, and walked around the house.
BA found 13APs, while TyTN found 22. At some point BA was seeing 7/13 while TyTN 11/22.
So, TyTN is far superior
Well here is the deal.
I tried my universal in my bedroom and it has full bar and then tried it with my Tytn and it has one bar!!!!!
I have a linksys N router in my basement and a signal booster in the first floor and this is adquate to boost the signal to my second floor bedrooms. But instead, all other devices have excellent reception but my tytn has one or two bars to the max when i put it in best performance mode. I am running a surge on wifi signals in my house and it is still weak.
WTF

Sorry If I'm kinda jumping or hijack this thread. Although this thread I guess is better than I start a new thread. My Prophet also sucks when receiving WIFI signals. I have an Alpine, an 02 Zinc, a nintendo DS, a laptop. dudes, my prophet couldn't even receive signal on the next room adjacent to where my router is. but for everything else in my devices, it can go as far as outside my house. probably 15meters away from the wifi, but can still browse. my prophhet can only receive wifi signals if i put my phropet besides the router itself. then slowly moving away but not exceeding 10 FEET. I mean what the hell is the wlan for if it ain't going further than 10 eet from the router. in my devices here's from the farthest to the weakest:
1. My Laptop of course: can still watch youtube outside the house.
2. My Alpine: dudes the signal rocks! even thru my inside gates.
3. My Zinc: slightly nearer than my alpine.
4. My NDS: kinda halfway than my Alpine.
5. My Prophet: worse: you should be beside the router. then why i don't i just open my dang PC and browse from it.
I have all these device with me.
for about sometime I also had the nokia n91. wifi signal's pretty good too. I just sold it out since when browsing heavy sites, the explorer turns off. I freakinly hate my prophet for it's ridiculous wifi connection. Currently I'm flashing all available rom there is just to test my WIFI reception. Hope you guys observe my tests. thanks!
What I want to say is that the wifi singnal has matters with the barrier in the space and the network condition itself. Beside that ,I made a test before, the wifi singal on WM6.1 was better than WM6.Maybe you can try to update your OS version.
Just wondering, I've heard mumbles here and there that wifi on the 8525 is quite poor. The reason I want to make sure is because I recently updated my ROM and stuff from the factory installed cingular ones to the newest ATT ones offered on HTC's site. For the short time that I had the factory ROM, i could get a fairly good signal, but now that i have the newest rom and radio and all that, I can barely get a good signal practically anywhere. I'm one floor, directly above the router and I can get a 'very good' signal with my computer and my other pda, but i can hardly get one bar with my 8525. is the wifi really THIS bad? i have the settings set to best performance and i've tried nearly everything on this forum.

This has been dealt with before - generally the range is 10 to 15 metres with perhaps 1 to 2 interior walls between. Beyond that is very dodgy.
Mike
if i went back to the original radio do you think that would make it work better again? if so, how would i do that?
Hi
I have a Touch 3g...and my mother has Touch viva....
I tested both phone's wifi...and Touch viva's signal strength is much better...!!! at least 50%....
Is there anything wrong with my phone?!?!?!
There is a setting in WiFi settings which is something like this: "Better signal or Battery mode" those are power setting for it.

not that I want to exaggerate....but 3g on best performance is worse that via on balanced and best battery...
it is wierd...............! I can take a picture of both.......showing you the signal strength....I want to know if my device is faulty.....or is this the case for all of jades

I also have a Kaiser in the house. Comparing the two, the Kaiser has a stronger reception. Also, 3G does not recognise APs set to B/G/N, only B/G. whereas the Kaiser, despite older model recognises N.
