Does anyone know how to "set" the "home network" on my I-Mate? I currently use T-Mobile and there are a few features that work differently when the I-Mate thinks it's not on it's home network such as activesync and mms messaging. I've tried the obvious places such as setting the "preferred network" but it doesn't seem to help..
So I decided to finally try and use my qtek 9100 as a usb modem to connect my laptop to the internet.
The first method I tried was from a thread in the xda-dev forums:
On your PC
// -- Microsoft ActiveSync --//
"File"->"Connection Settings" ->
(1) check 'Allow USB connection'
(2) 'This computer is connected to' -> 'Internet'
// -- On your device -- //
"Start"->"Setting"->"Connections" tab ->
(1) "Connection" -> "Advance" tab -> "Select Network"
-> the options for "Programs that ... the Internet should connect using:"
choose the option "My Work Network"
(2) "Network Cards" -> "My Network card connects to" -> "The Internet"
(3) "Network Cards" -> "Remote-NDIS Host"
Select "Use server-assigned IP address"
// -- Now test your connection before trying the option below -- //
If "Use server-assigned IP address" above doesn't work use
"Use specific IP address"
IP address: 196.254.2.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 196.254.2.1
// -- How to test your connection -- //
- Unplug your USB cable (if it is plugged-in when you change the setting)
- Plug your USB cable
- Wait for your ActiveSync to complete.
- Use IE in your device to test connection
ps: Some software (i.e. WorldMate) doesn't seems to work even I have connection on other sofware (i.e. IE).
Needless to say this method did not work; the second method that I tried was from howardforums, and all that it required was the download of htc's USB modem dialer program..within few minutes I was connected, easy as pie. I'm sure this method is also discussed in xda-dev, but I didnt find it.
Now comes the main problem, well I wouldnt say its really a problem, but rather more of an annoyance. Anyways, now whenever I connect through activesync, it synchronizes fine but within a few minutes a messsage will pop up on my ppc saying that:
"Pocket PC Networking, Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try
again later or enter an IP address in Network settings"
This is really annoying as it happens everytime I sync, everything else is working fine; usb modem, activesync, wifi, edge, etc. But how do I get rid of this? I know it definitely has to do with the steps/changes that I performed while following the first method above. Anyone know the default settings for the network cards, especially pertaining to "remote-ndis host" This issue did not happen until I messed around with it.
does anyone have a way to correct my problem?

Hi there,
I've just purchased a v1605, and have a few problems with it. The main one I've detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=363987#363987
But in addition to this, I was wondering how on earth I set the bluetooth name of my device?!?!? I can't find anywhere to do this, and it shows up as either ???, <no name> or similar depending on what I'm searching for it with.
Any help would be very gratefully received.
James.
Set the Owners name - that's what it uses at the BT name
Hi, I also have V1605, bluetooth id can be changed by doing the following
Goto:
"Start"
"Settings"
"About"
"Device ID"
"Device Name"
Just put whatever you want to call your device in "Device Name"
Don't bother with the "Description" field!
This then shows up perfectly in my Parrot CK3100, or any other bluetooth device I connect to.

Vodafone V1605 Bluetooth
Sorry, it should be:
Goto:
"Start"
"Settings"
"System"
"About"
"Device ID"
"Device Name"
Just put whatever you want to call your device in "Device Name"
Don't bother with the "Description" field!
This then shows up perfectly in my Parrot CK3100, or any other bluetooth device I connect to.

accidental post.
I've tried this, and it doesn't seem to change it.
Though my PC is now seeing it as Pocket_PC, rather than noname
Cheers anyway, I think there's something wrong with the BT in this device, as I've only got 2 services available, headset & dial up networking.
Vodafone Tech Support are supposed to be calling me, but I expect that'll be a complete waste of time.
James.
As a suggestion, have you unticked the "Enable advanced network functionality" box in Settings->Connections->USB to PC
Cheers for the reply paul_o,
Unfortunately I have done this, I had to to get the sync working over USB!
On the plus side, it is now using the owners name as the BT ID. Cheers petes.
James.
Hello everyone!!
I bet you're all frustrated checking this solution or that solution but in then end getting back to where you started at.
I've been there and done that and luckily for me, it's only been a week of sleepless nights to solve instead of months for some.
So, I am writing this thread from my Dopod 838 Pro, but it will work with any other Dopod/Hermes running on WM5:
Procedure by now I'm sure you will be used to:
1.Pair OSX and the phone. You might need to check the "any device" checkbox on OSX's pairing utility.
2. Verify to OSX that you do want to use that device as a modem (if you don't get that dialog, then you will need to create the Bluetooth connection yourself -- message me or leave a comment if you need instructions and I will reply to you).
3. Download the IPAQ GSM modem script at www.taniwha.org.uk
4. Go to your System Preferences/Network/Bluetooth/. There enter the following:
Service Provider: [blank]
Account Name: [check with provider]
Password: [check with provider]
Tel number: *99# THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!! (the *99***1# number doesn't work with the HTC/Dopod phones)
On PPP options uncheck "tcp header compression".
On the Modem tab uncheck both "enable error correction" and "wait for dial tone". From the modem drop-down menu select the iPaq-GSM modem script.
Then, click Apply and then open the "Internet Connect" application and select Bluetooth from there. Click "Connect" and you should now be connected on the net via GPRS/EDGE.
Please make sure you've followed the instructions carefully. It may sound like the same as others but the key is the telephone number.
Good luck!
Art.
You may also use Internet Sharing application - I find this cleaner.
Basically, you just pair the phone from the Mac (be sure to initiate pairing form the Mac side - NOT the phone).
Then, launch Internet Sharing appliation and, choose bluetooth and hit START.
Then, under the Bluetooth icon (next to the Spotlight), select JOIN NETWORK ON [HERMES BT NAME].
Voila
Can anybody tell me how to integrate the "IP Phone" in Comm Manager in WM5 which is found in WM6>Comm Manager>Settings>IP Phone. That "IP Phone" is used to configure the SIP phone settings, which is used to make/recieve IP phone calls.
I'm further more attaching the WM6's VoIP cab file & it's SIP Configuration Tool.
Though the attached files are instaleld successfully on my HTC P3600(WM5), it doesn't shows in Comm Manager.
